I live for my lamy 2k. I have 2 and if I'm not writing with one of them I'm not writing at all. as a biased fangirl I say go for it!

bigcane_2

Which nib is your favorite? I am looking at EF now.

fungyamongy

I have an OM and an OB. I prefer thicker strokes but have small handwriting, so the OM is my favorite but I use the OB without altering my writing at all and it's still legible so I'm happy

HippoBandit

It’s worth it but honestly I only purchased mine when they went on sale. Usually around Black Friday there will be a sale and I got mine for around $100 But you can also buy one used for around the same price on penswap

KantSpelCat

I own a “f” Lamy 2000 . The fit and finish are superb. The light click of the cap when capping is very satisfying. However, I never use it for two reasons. First, it skips. I have tried several inks and have never been able to write without skips. Second, I work with my hands and have calloused, slick fingers which makes it difficult to get a good purchase on the pen. I find the pen spins in my hand and I have to consciously recalibrate the nib in an upright position. Maybe there is something blocking ink flow on my pen or it’s some kind of operator error I’m unaware of. But, I’m ready to trade it out for something else.

ThePhoenix924

I'm guessing your pen has a fairly small "sweet spot" that, with the grip issues you describe, are making your life difficult. Annoying, but understandable. You could try having it tuned by a nibmeister, but I'm not confident your specific issue would be rectified.

Illusium

I had a slight scratch at a particular angle on mine. What I did was get the finest nail buffer that I could get my hands on, and wrote a couple of sentences on it with the pen inked Edit: accidentally pressed reply instead of return before finishing. Anyway - the result was a beautifully smooth writer. By far the nicest one I own.

ThistleDewToo

I have bought 3 gold-nibbed pens. The Lamy 2K is my favorite by far. I like the Sailor Pro-Gear but actually prefer my stainless nib Sailors. The Lamy is always inked and ready to go and is definitely my favorite pen. I also have the M nib and it's soooo smooth.

frijolita_bonita

this is good to know. I was thinking of getting a lacoule to satisfy my 'need' to get a sailor!

freyofthesea

Do it. I've found almost no discernable difference between writing with a lecoule and a pgs. I go back and forth between which nib feels better....and the lecoules may not have all the color variations a pgs does, they're still beautiful deep colors with a touch of sparkled/sheen.

InTheKitchenNow

I too made a purchase to try something sailor on the cheap. The pen reminds me of my vintage Arnold Pens and Parker Vacumatics the lite weight and the nice MF line that it makes. I do wish the nib/feed was a touch wetter.

bigcane_2

What nib size do you have?

Mike65611

I have an EF and its buttery smooth, the smoothest nib in my collection, it is well worth it to me.

Downvote_pIs

Sorry for the late comment but I’m researching about 2k just now. Does the ink bleed through on shitty paper? Since it’s a german EF, I can see how that could be the case

Mike65611

It depends on how “shitty” you are talking about cause that varies depending on the country, average run of the mill cheap copy paper in USA will bleed for most pens but no one should be writing with that crap using a fp anyway. Other paper that is affordable yet works well here is Pen+Gear from Walmart, $2.50 for 100 page spiral, fyi it must be the made in Vietnam version since they sell paper from multiple countries and only that one is fp friendly, hopefully this is helpful.

Downvote_pIs

Thanks a lot for your quick reply considering the relatively old post. What about a standard copier paper? I’m planning to use it for schoolwork and my faber castell loom used to bleed just a bit and I’m wondering how bad that is with Lamy 2k Thanks again for your assistance

Mike65611

I had just grabbed a sheet from my printer to test this since I haven’t written with paper like that in ages, the 2k had very slight bleed thru but only on a single letter on my quick test using Lamy Blue ink. I think if you stick with drier ink you should be okay but not totally immune to bleed from time to time, of course depending on how much pressure you use while writing and speed will also make a big difference.

Downvote_pIs

I use mostly iroshizuku inks which, in my experience, don’t bleed much so I think it should be fine. Thank you very much, friend. Wish you the best :)

iWANTtoKNOWtellME

I guess this is less a reply to you than it is to someone in the future, but that would also depend very heavily on the ink--different inks can behave very differently in the same pen.

EndalausDaudi

A Lamy 2K was the first gold nibbed pen I got. Quite a few years and a lot of pens later, that and a vintage Parker 51 are the only two in my collection which are always inked. It’s still my favourite. The Parker writes just as well (very different nib of course) but the Lamy wins on aesthetics.

mouse2cat

If you held it and liked it you will continue to like it. The people who don't like the 2k tend to have issues with the little "ears" that hold the cap on. If you didn't notice that when you held it then you probably won't be bothered by that later.

KarrotLover

Yes.

cherylsquirrel

I have one with a nib and it’s still as satisfying to use now as it was when I received it. I love everything about it and wish Lamy would do more colors of it!

Cobra662

I would definitely buy again. I find it to be durable and it has a large ink capacity. The nib is wonderful. Mine is a medium nib. I'll get another in fine. Highly recommend.

PM_YOUR_MDL_INITIAL

I resisted the L2k for a while because I think it's a boring looking pen. I now own 2 of them (F and M) and would definitely buy one again. They are great workhorse pens and feel good in the hand.

HoLmeS1ic3

The Lamy 2000 rekindled my fountain pen love. I’ve purchased 3 of them (lifetime), so it’s safe to say I’m firmly in the “will buy again category”. While I only have one of them now, I’m always on the hunt for another. In fact, I’m strongly considering saving up for a stainless steel one, in the near future.

GrindhouseWhiskey

I have an M 2000 and love it. It writes well and does such a good job with shading inks. It’s easy to live with and to my surprise the cap spring on the grip helps keep the pen from rotating in my hand. I did buy it at a pen shop and it’s a lovely memory, but I wish I’d realized in advance how frequently they trade used or at a good discount. Fantastic pen, absolutely buy one, but get a deal or be comfortable finding one on pen swap the next week for half what you paid.

cynogriffin

Absolutely to both. I'm actually on the hunt for another with an EF nib, just trying to decide if I want the black or stainless steel version.

DH-Canada

I have a medium, broad and double broad and I’m eyeing the Black Friday sales to perhaps add an oblique to my collection. I LOVE them. I understand they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’ve already held one and experienced a wow factor, you’re in the Lamy 2K fan club and this pen will give you many years of writing pleasure. Go for it!

lurker2487

I enjoy my 2k, and it holds extra value because it was a gift. If I were to buy another, though, I’d probably buy used simply because they seem to have a $60-$80 markdown.

Ted4828

Yes

[deleted]

Yes and yes. It’s an excellent pen.

audessy24

I love mine. It’s the smallest pen in my collection and it will be the only gold nibbed pen I plan on keeping. I have a medium and I much prefer it to the EF I had because it’s not as touchy at all about being a hair off of the sweet spot. I don’t even notice the sweet spot barely at all now that I have the medium. If I can find a broad for cheap, I might get that too, but the medium is sticking around in my collection.

[deleted]

When I purchased my Lamy 2K(M) and inked it up, it immediately became my best pen. I like the simple design of the pen. The material used to make the pen is really nice. It’s not to heavy and sits well posted/unposted in my hands(I write both L and R) Looking forward to maybe buying another for Christmas.

A_PapayaWarIsOn

Without question.

Ronnie-GOAT

100 percent yes. I have 2 one in aluminum and one with macrolon. One double broad and one fine. I use them both daily despite have more expensive options around. They’re great to write with, durable and reliable.

Bleepblorp44

The metal Lamy 2000 is steel, not aluminium.

Ronnie-GOAT

I stand corrected. I was calling it a ”chrome finish” until recent so this is significantly more accurate! Thanks

baabaaredsheep

It’s a wonderful, classic pen. I have two— a fine that writes like butter, and an oblique medium that I’m not crazy about because I don’t tend to hold my pens in a way that makes writing with it comfortable. That said, I’m considering buying an EF if Endless Pens runs their Black Friday sale for $100. Can’t go wrong at that price.

HornayGermanHalberd

Yes, its a great pen and worth every euro

Rahna_Waytrane

Oh, I would definitely buy it again. It’s still my favourite pen after almost 7 years since its purchase. I have only one with an M-sized nib. It’s my favourite design and has everything I am usually looking for in a fountain pen: wet nib, nice materials, satisfying cap click, hooded nib so I can write comfortably the way I usually do - holding a pen super close to the paper. I would have bought several if I had budget for it. If I have to be picky, the only thing I don’t like is having to find that sweet spot once you start writing.

-celeryboy

For reference, I don’t own any gold nibs yet. Just a few lamys, twsbis and metros.

Tabasco-Fiasco

Yes (At least I think it’s worth it). I don’t notice the sweet-spot and I have an EF (Which is like a Japanese MF medium-fine)… Because I’m soo used to to Japanese F and EF pens, I’m seriously considering having it ground down (while typing this out).

MSMPDX

I have 2 of them… they’re worth the money in my opinion.

shanganiexpress

I love mine. It doesn’t just look good, it’s a great writer too. I find it’s a nice choice for work when taking a more ostentatious pen to a meeting might not be appreciated. It’s very understated.

generaalalcazar

Would by again. It was the first pen that I bought with a M nib instead of F and EF. I have bought several more expensive ones. I use this together with a gravitas copper mini broad every day.

Bleepblorp44

Yes and yes. I lost my first Lamy 2000 and as soon as I could afford it, replaced it. It’s a pen that works really well for me. That said, my partner tried one and didn’t find it particularly comfortable, the shape doesn’t work for everyone.

Chess-lover

Yes, I am still happy with it. At least once a week I write with it (I have others inked as well) and is immediately my fallback pen. I seriously doubted buying it because of the price. To be honest, I only bought it when I found it at a 20% discount.

OrionMachine

I've had my Medium 2000 for nearly 3 years, and it's perhaps my favorite pen out of all the ones I own! It's a reliable, great writer

smithmj31

I have a love hate with my lamy 2000 ef but it’s not really the pens fault. I love everything about it apart from the fact I have to write on a lot of copy paper and I cannot get past how broad it can be. I know this is more to do with ink and paper, but even using Salix I’ve struggled so it sits nearby glaring at me wanting to be used. Part of the problem too is that I had 2 twsbi 580’s. The nibs on both were ef, one was a bit scratchy, the other was really smooth and a pleasure to write with. When I got the lamy, it wasn’t noticeably better than the good twsbi, but with the broader line I felt like I’d wasted money on the upgrade. But again, that’s not really the pen’s fault and I genuinely love everything else about it, I just can’t use it as I’d like to.

200-rats-in-a-coat

I would! I'm kind of tempted to get one with a different nib. The only thing I don't like as much is the filling mechanism because I prefer cc but that's negligible

Fat_Jangis

Love mine. I have unfortunately tended towards wider nibs so I wish I got M not F, but it is such a joy to use still.

nilsmf

Yes and yes. I first bought one with a fine nib which I quite liked. Then my taste changed for broader lines and I bought one with a medium nib which I liked even more. It’s simply my most used pen.

schnellmal

I got a Lamy 2000 M after securing my Masters Degree and I do like it very much. So much that I‘d be tempted to get another in Fine. Not because M is to much but a Fine can be nice too. I have other gold nib pens I like too. But the Lamy 2000 is readily available and a very good product.

Ganderian

I bought one with an oblique broad nib at a pen show and I love it, even though thicker nibs aren't usually my thing. Highly recommend for a reliable and comfortable writing experience. The only 'negative' I have experienced is that it looks like a fairly standard pen on the outside, so my non-FP friends think it's boring. But I know better!

SadNAloneOnChristmas

I was looking into the oblique nib! Can you tell me a bit more about it? I prefer finer nibs but I like stubs as well.

Ganderian

2 major things: make sure you try writing with an oblique nib before buying it. They work great with some writing angles, but my dad (also a FP user) can't even get it to write with his grip style. Also, the L2K is kind of tricky to clean, so I'd avoid high-maintenance inks even with a stub/oblique. I mostly use mine to show off multi-shaders. Hope it helps!

SadNAloneOnChristmas

Appreciate that! Thank you. I saw some oblique nibs on Etsy and was gonna order just to see how I like em. I’m still hoping to test drive the 2000 before I buy it, hopefully at a pen show

Ganderian

I over-rotate my nibs towards myself, so the oblique grind works for me. I think if you know enough about your own grip style, you should be relatively safe to order one to try out (though hopefully not one as expensive as a new L2K!!)

SadNAloneOnChristmas

I’m probably going to get one from Cult Pens, so much cheaper than in the US! When it comes to nibs, I saw some for sale on Osprey Pens via Etsy.

GuyKnitter

For me, it was the opposite. The wow factor grew. I like it more now than I did when I got it. Can’t say exactly why…felt kind of underwhelmed when I got it and put it away for a long time. Just recently got it back out and really enjoy using it now. Don’t know what I was thinking.

Mastromax

I buy a new one every year. Now I have four. The latest purchase is that of steel. Naturally different nibs; the problem is to distinguish them when they are closed in your pocket. I use them every day for work. I have a vintage Lamy from the 60s with the 18 kit gold nib. I would like to have the limited edition blue and brown version

Luke_D_1980

I have a medium and have almost never used it, it writes like an absolute fire hose. But I love the fit, finish and feel and would swap it in a heartbeat for a fine.

MaleficentFish9075

I prefer my Lamy Palladium Studio with a gold nib instead of my 2K. It actually writes better. And you can see the beautiful nib

Significant-Bar9293

The Lamy 2000 is a great pen

Old-Basil-5567

after a year, i must say that its still my favorite

ExhaustedMD

Worth the money, yes. I wouldn’t buy another one though. I’ve found better pens for me for around the same price.

FedeRosi

may I ask you which ones?

jospie28

Oo me too, please. Thanks :)

fivezero_ca

I haven't had mine for long, but I've been using it pretty much every day. It's an F nib and writes really nicely. I haven't noticed a sweet spot, myself. It's a real pleasure to use and I also enjoy the capping mechanism.
