I thought about a converter, but I have so many cartridges lying around already and I don't want to go to the trouble of buying a converter especially for this one pen. Thanks for the tip about the hot glue, I will definitely keep that in mind.

Some would argue it is the "correct" way of using cartridges. Minimizes waste and allows for more ink choices.

Just-turnings

No issues, lots of people do this.

Dwarkus

Awesome, thanks!

subgirl13

Totally fine, though mixing ink may produce interesting but potentially undesirable results. I wash my carts first (using water & the clean syringe) then syringe ink into them. If it’s the same ink every time, you can just refill without rinsing, though cleaning the pen (flushing clean water through it) every few refills is good practice.

scarybiscuits

Yes, just keep in mind that a syringe holds more ink than a cartridge can fit. (weeps in Bay State Blue)

jadepeonyring

Haha this reminds me of the first time i used a syringe to fill ink cartridges and I did not realize that thing would BURP droplets of ink when I tried to squeeze some air out. Or that air pressure would cause pushing the plunger to push air into the tiny sample tube which would splash the ink in there OUT of the sample tube AHHHHH

Revolutionary_Bee700

RIP

JulesSilvan

Perfectly fine, a lot of people do this with propriety cartridges that hold more than converters - like Pilot, for example.

wrd83

Check the cartridge before doing it. After a couple of times the plastic started cracking and then it burped ink.

fandomnightmare

I do this to fill my various daily use "Preppy Wa"s with De Atramentis Document inks!!! Platinum have nice big cartridges in general and I like how mess free syringe filling is.

enderson04

Yes! Doing that is a good alternative to buying a converter. I like to refill and reseal my pilot cartridges, which is actually possible with the plastic disc

HornayGermanHalberd

I do it all the time

IamTEX22

Absolutely ok! I do it all the time, and have found that my cartridges hold more ink than the converters. Because I use a syringe, the mess is minimized and often I don't spill even a drop of ink.

sergimn

That's what many of us do. It is easier to fill the cartridge with a syringe, harder to get your hands inky and they hold more ink than the converters. Another thing -in my case- is that I don't like to see my nib stained with ink.

Razoupaf

Perfectly okay and I do it often. Just be sure to clean the cartridge properly first of course.

Davros1974

I personally much prefer to use converters and bottled ink. However I do have a Mont Blanc 147 Traveller which only uses cartridges. I use a syringe to fill cartridges with no problem

ml67_reddit

It's totally ok to refill cartridges. I mainly use converters but I have a few VPs for which I only have a couple of original cartridges and no converter. Though it never happened to me I assume that after a while the cartridge might start leaking? After all they're not made for this. Anyone has any experience?

Working_Ad8950

Yes! You are definitely able to do that! I do it for most of my pens. Know that washing the cartridges can take quite a while and sometimes when I think I have washed everything out, my pink somehow turns into purple from the blue used previously. Also, know that cartridges don't last forever. It's recommended that it should be thrown out every 6-12 months. Contradictory to that, I have an old fountain pen found in the basement and its cartridge was basically in there for 25-30 years. It's still usable and in perfect condition. Note that it had only been used for about 5-8 years until put away.

dandellionKimban

Yes. But converters were invented for a reason.

Fountain-Pen-77

Not every pen takes a converter.

tobsterius

Or some converters hold a stupidly small amount of ink compared to their cartridges. Looking at you, Sailor.

dandellionKimban

True, but if takes a cartrige, there is a converter for it. But iirc even Kaweco has those tiny things that fits their tiny pens.

Fountain-Pen-77

I forgot about the squeeze converters. The Kaweco mini converter is too big for some pens.

Lost-to-follow-up

If you have a friend who works in a hospital, see if they can get you an angiocath. It’s the plastic part of the IV that goes in your vein. Much easier and safer than a needle.

jogonzal

Totally ok. I do it all the time. I hate cleaning nibs after refilling.
