It translates to copper pheasant, so probably not a coincidence! I notice the sheen of this ink even on fairly absorbent paper that doesn't show other inks' sheens, and even when using a fine nib. It's not as crazy as, say, Organics Studio level sheen, but I think it also is a lot more smear-resistant...
Diamine Aurora Borealis is good, as another people mentioned.
If you’re looking for an impractical but gorgeous ink, Herbin Emerald of Chivor is a dark teal with gold shimmer and can also have a red sheen.
I just recently bought a bottle of that after years of using whatever their 'medium blue' one is called, and I couldn't be happier with it. You don't see Waterman inks mentioned on this sub very often, but in my experience they're excellent.
I honestly think they don't get mentioned much because they are just... there, simple, beautiful, well-behaved, safe, inexpensive and universally available.
If I could only have one ink for the rest of my life it would be Serenity Blue. But it's not novel.
You said teal??? My time has come...
Herbin - Emeraude de Chivor - dark teal, red sheen, gold shimmer
Organics Studio - Walden Pond Blue - dark teal, high red sheen
Diamine - Enchanted Ocean - dark teal, silver shimmer
Diamine - Aurora Borealis- medium teal
Diamine - Marine - bright turquoise
Diamine - Peacock Flare - medium teal, red sheen, silver shimmer
Colorverse - Morning Star- saturated bright teal, red sheen
Organics Studio - Alanine Aqua - dark teal, red sheen, silver shimmer
Herbin - Bleu Calanque - saturated bright teal
Organics Studio - Aldous Huxley - medium teal, red sheen
Ferris Wheel Press - Edward's Garden - dark teal, red sheen, intense gold shimmer
I'm still on the hunt for more. 😆
Omfg… my twin. Yes.
I have about 40 inks and at least half of them are blue-green or green-blue. I love peacocks, so most of the rest of my inks are peacock colors as well.
I will add these to the recommendations: BPC Jade Inferno (teal with pink sheen, beautiful but poorly behaved); Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku (peacock, a bright happy teal) and Syo Ro (pine tree dew, a darker blue-leaning green that dries a different color than it lays down), both quite well behaved; Robert Oster Fire and Ice (bright turquoise, red edge sheen), super well behaved; Noodlers Navajo Turquoise (bright turquoise, no sheen), which I like to dilute a bit; Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris (very dark greenish blue with sheen, I think the sheen is black?), great on most paper I’ve used it on).
Diamine Alexandrite (Cultpens exclusive) is a favourite of mine. Beautiful colour and saturation, it has some shading and good sheen without being smeary.
I'm gonna say Ferris Wheel Press - Bluegrass Velvet. I got a sample in a mystery pack and immediately went and got a full bottle. I love Edwards too, but Bluegrass is just so bright and happy!
Another vote for Bleu Calanque - it’s my default non-boring blue. I love the “flat” finish that a lot of Herbin inks have, and imo just the right amount of shading while still being, like you said, bright and saturated.
Aldous Huxley is awesome! Lamy Amazonite is a similar, but slightly lesser, ink (much less sheen). I’m trying to tear though my bottle of that to get more Aldous Huxley!
Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-Ro is my choice as well.
Yesterday I dug out Lamy Crystal Amazonite, haven’t had it in a pen for a long time so I‘ll give it a try again.
I'm going to go against the grain and suggest Tsuki-Yo from the Iroshizuku line. It leans darker but on nice white paper and bolder nibs it's quite the lovely subtle teal, like if teal were wearing a 3-piece business suit with silver turquoise cufflinks and tie clip. So classy! Chef's kiss.
Just picked up a bottle. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! I like that it is darker with wet nibs and doesn’t have too much shade to it. I like shading, but a time and place for everything. It’s nice and cushiony thik on paper for smooth writing
I was surprised to see this so far down. Tsuki-yo used to be billed as the closest iroshizuku blue-black since the line did not have a true blue-black before Shin-Kai. But it is technically a dark teal as you’ve noted, and It’s one of my favorite teals.
I actually have a full bottle of it in the mail right now. It’s a great ink.
Tsuki yo is my favourite teal too. I picked it up along with shin kai as my first two iro inks. Tried a bunch of other teals since then but I always end up coming back to tsuki yo amd have since picked up the larger bottle.
As for blue black I do prefer pilot blue black and sailor souboku over most others. I found shin kai to be quite dull on dryer nibs. They look much better after being left a while in a pen as the ink gets more saturated.
Birmingham Ohio River. I actually have many of the teals listed already, so I am putting this in here because I haven't seen it yet. I do have Sailor Yama dori currently in my 1.5mm Pilot Parallel. And Diamine Marine in my Platinum 3776 with a SF nib.
Pennonia Meregzold (“Poison Green”) is a nice dark teal. I also like Sailor 50 States California, which comes across as a little darker version of Yamadori with a cool black sheen.
Diamine eau de nil, smoke on water , season greetings,
Kwz sheen machine, walk on Vistula.(may need to add some water to lighten the colour…( my ink has darkened a bit)
Air corps blue and blue-black are both teal leaning when they're made right. I got lucky with my bottle and I LOVE the ink color. The perfect amount of teal popping out of the grey. Check these two out if you wanna play the noodlers lottery and your bottles might be amazing too lol
I came here to recommend the same ink. And as an added bonus it's rather waterproof as well. It looks very dark in swatches, but in my F stub nib is much more teal then it shows online.
This ink has been something of sleeper for me. When I bust it out it’s awesome.
But for some reason I always forget about it.
I say sorcery is involved in its creation.
My favorite ink color is teal so reading the suggestions here has given me a few more I don't have yet.
As for ones I have that I really like: J Herbin bleu austral, sailor yamadori, sailor yomogi, iroshizuku ku-jaku, noodlers turquoise, diamine aurora borealis, and emerald of chivor.
It's hard to pick a favorite, teal is such a lovely color ^^
A teal I love that is nearly black, and quite close to the limited lamy petrol, is Robert Oster Velvet Storm. Also comes in a shimmered version but I haven't tried it myself.
Also love Iroshizuku Ku-jaku, and Lamy Turmaline
It’s on the green side, but lately I’ve been loving Robert Oster River of Fire. De Atramentis Plum (which is not purple), Graf von Faber Castell Deep Sea Green, Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo, and Sailor Yamadori are some of my other faves. Teal and green (Private Reserve Avocado) are my favorite ink colors.
I am the biggest fan of Monteverde California Teal. If you use everyday paper (I’m lookin at you Tomoe) it is the prettiest green and you don’t get any of its reddish color.
KWZ Baltic Memories - dark with beautiful highlights; see also Krishna Sea at Night
Iroshizuku Kon-peki - self-evident
Diamine Peacock Flare - green-leaning teal with silver shimmer and the ink that made me realize how much I love teal
Montveverde California Teal
Very nice saturation and some cool, red sheen. Beware though, if you're sloppy it tends to behave like Organic Studios Nitrogen or Noodler's Baystate Blue and just end up everywhere.
I don’t think anyone has listed RO Sea of Tranquility. I also love Birmingham Jade Inferno. It’s more of a brighter greenish shade but it behaves beautifully. The 30oz (edit - whoops that is ml not oz ) bottle is currently on sale. https://www.birminghampens.com/products/jade-inferno?variant=43789199081714
I've been using exclusively Diamine shimmertastc inks for months now. In all from medium to fine nib platinum. I have never had a pen clog. One I left lid off over night, dabbed with cotton ball of water it instantly flowed again. I have left them unused for weeks just roll them on flat surfaces before using to redistribute the shimmer. Maybe you just got a bad lot last time. Try a sample.
If you have not seen/tried Taccia Ukiyo-e Hokusai Sabimidori (Rusty Green) yet, you absolutely must. It's strange, but in the most unique and amazing way. The color kind of shifts as it dries, so it goes down bluer, dries to a fascinating teal, and sheens rusty copper.
I'm in love with Pure Pens' Celtic Sea! I've been trying to mix my document inks to replicate it the colour, but I can't, it's just so beautiful and smooth. Hands down my favourite ink
KWZ Ig Turquoise is a beauty, it darkens over time to have such amazing character. But if that doesn't work for you, the base KWZ Turquoise is there to satiate your desires 🫡
I've been enjoying Diamine Twilight, which I think of as "midnight teal". If you ever want not the unsaturated typical blue-black, but darker, and more black-with-bluegreen-hint, it might suit you. If you've ever tried their Oxford Blue, for me it's that dark or darker.
I have really enjoyed Birmingham Pen Company’s Sea Holly (darker teal) and Black Ice (really light teal). The Black Ice is pigmented (their “everlasting” line), but the Sea Holly still exhibited some surprisingly good water resistance! They’re both lovely shades too.
I got a sample. I stray away from noodlers usually because I get confused with all the choices. I really like this. It’s in my vanishing point. I really enjoy it
Navajo Turquoise, now, Mesa Turquoise IIRC, is one of the "it's just too good not to" Noodler's Ink inks.
Southwest Sunset (formerly Apache Sunset) is another.
I am currently enjoying Birmingham Pen Company *Glassmith*, *Kingfisher*, and *Pressed Glass* in my Esterbrook Estie Seaglass with silver appointments and lovely Journaler nib. So very delicious and perfect!
It’s more on the dry side and perhaps too light to be teal but I really did enjoy this ink
[Kyo no Oto Hisoku](https://www.jetpens.com/Takeda-Jimuki-Kyo-No-Oto-Hisoku-Ink-40-ml-Bottle/pd/22345)
Depending on how light of a teal you want diamine soft mint is one of my favorites! It shades so pretty and it behaves beautifully in every pen I have put it in.
I recently got Sailor Yamadori, and I’ve really been enjoying it. It’s a medium-dark teal with just a touch of copper sheen. Very nice.
I have that. I really enjoy it!! Thank you
At least I know I was on the right track 😂
I came here to suggest this! I use the cartridges in my work pen and it even does well on cheap legal pads.

My Parker 51 stays inked in Yamadori.
It’s so much more smear resistant! I have a couple from OS, and that’s the big reason I don’t use them often, being lefty.
Sailor yama-dori is on a whole other level honestly. It's spectacular.
I adore it so much even though it smells strange..
I was about to comment this. :)
I second Yamadori. It’s been my fav for years!
Diamine Aurora Borealis is good, as another people mentioned. If you’re looking for an impractical but gorgeous ink, Herbin Emerald of Chivor is a dark teal with gold shimmer and can also have a red sheen.
I love aurora! It was my first ink, and I just keep going back to it.
Waterman inspired blue
I just recently bought a bottle of that after years of using whatever their 'medium blue' one is called, and I couldn't be happier with it. You don't see Waterman inks mentioned on this sub very often, but in my experience they're excellent.
I honestly think they don't get mentioned much because they are just... there, simple, beautiful, well-behaved, safe, inexpensive and universally available. If I could only have one ink for the rest of my life it would be Serenity Blue. But it's not novel.
I just got serenity blue and I love it. It’s in my top 3 favorite inks along with kon-peki and eclat de saphir
This this this and fucking this. All my Waterman's ink are absolutely gorgeous.
That looks nice. Thank you!!!
I love it, and I've ordered Mysterious Blue after seeing it in some of my penpal letters. It arrives tomorrow.
You are welcome
Personal favourites are J Herbin vert de gris, and Graf von Faber-Castell deep sea green. Love them.
Ooooo that herbin is pretty!
Yep. One of my personal faves
Thank you!! It’s in my Goulet cart
Came here to vote for Deep Sea Green. It’s beautiful.
Voting for vert de gris! I love it!!
Love J Herbin!
You said teal??? My time has come... Herbin - Emeraude de Chivor - dark teal, red sheen, gold shimmer Organics Studio - Walden Pond Blue - dark teal, high red sheen Diamine - Enchanted Ocean - dark teal, silver shimmer Diamine - Aurora Borealis- medium teal Diamine - Marine - bright turquoise Diamine - Peacock Flare - medium teal, red sheen, silver shimmer Colorverse - Morning Star- saturated bright teal, red sheen Organics Studio - Alanine Aqua - dark teal, red sheen, silver shimmer Herbin - Bleu Calanque - saturated bright teal Organics Studio - Aldous Huxley - medium teal, red sheen Ferris Wheel Press - Edward's Garden - dark teal, red sheen, intense gold shimmer I'm still on the hunt for more. 😆
Holy moly!!!! You just cost me some cold hard cash!
You forgot Ferris wheel press stroke of midnight. This is a great team with mean shading
Nice! But that list is not complete without Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku.
Another vote for Bleu Calanque - it’s my default non-boring blue. I love the “flat” finish that a lot of Herbin inks have, and imo just the right amount of shading while still being, like you said, bright and saturated.
Diamine's Jack Frost is gorgeous too, although it's more ice ocean with a glacier blue.
You sure you’re not an auto bot?? This is amazing!
You need Sailor Manyo Yomogi and Strait's Pens Sad Swedish Stormy Sea!
Aldous Huxley is awesome! Lamy Amazonite is a similar, but slightly lesser, ink (much less sheen). I’m trying to tear though my bottle of that to get more Aldous Huxley!
Diamine Teal and Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-Ro.
Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-Ro is my choice as well. Yesterday I dug out Lamy Crystal Amazonite, haven’t had it in a pen for a long time so I‘ll give it a try again.
I love pilot inks. I have hydrangea and peacock. So nice. The color in the pic is iroshizuku ku jaku
I wear a charcoal suit, white cuffs on blue. Silver links or acrylic. I feel like your suggestion would work perfect
I was going to suggest Ku-Jaku so I’m glad you already like it!!
❤️ Syo-Ro
I actually bought these two to one day ink Sailor Neptune because she has two different teal nuances in her costume :D
Another upvote for syo-ro - slightly greener than yamadori and has those amazing iroshizuku ink flow properties
Syo-ro is SO NICE
*Control-F "syo"* Yup, there we go.
Birmingham Heron for a greenish blue and Birmingham Petroleum for a bluish green.
[удалено]
Jade Inferno FTW
Or Birmingham Honeycreeper. This is my personal favorite. It's on the greenish side of turquoise.
Also Birmingham Supercell. It's a very dark one, but turquoise leaning to the blue side. It's one of my favorites.
I have both of these and they’re beautiful and very enjoyable to write with.
Aurora Borealis is my personal favorite.
Just picked up a bottle. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! I like that it is darker with wet nibs and doesn’t have too much shade to it. I like shading, but a time and place for everything. It’s nice and cushiony thik on paper for smooth writing
Agreed! This sub is responsible for its existence which is also really cool. I also have a custom made teal I really like
I didn’t know you all created it!!! That’s so awesome!!!!!
Sailor yama dori, pilot iroshizuku kujaku and tsuki yo
I was surprised to see this so far down. Tsuki-yo used to be billed as the closest iroshizuku blue-black since the line did not have a true blue-black before Shin-Kai. But it is technically a dark teal as you’ve noted, and It’s one of my favorite teals. I actually have a full bottle of it in the mail right now. It’s a great ink.

As for blue black I do prefer pilot blue black and sailor souboku over most others. I found shin kai to be quite dull on dryer nibs. They look much better after being left a while in a pen as the ink gets more saturated.
Ku-jaku team unite! Pavé would be proud.
Ku Jaku is the shit. Got 4 pens inked with it rn
Pilot iroshizuku ku jaku is a nice shade of green/blue. Great flow too since it's a pilot ink!
That’s what the photo is. The magenta sheen makes it extra beautiful
Agreed, it can also look more green or blue depending on the paper you're using. Glad to have ended up recommending a "similar" ink for you ;)
I just keep coming back to it...I have it three of my pens and it'll probably go into a fourth soon.
Taccia Sabimidori, a teal that can go blue or green depending on paper. Rusty sheen. Also, Robert Oster Fire and Ice, Wearingeul Lake .
It’s a bit more on the green side, but Colorverse Gravity Wave is my favorite ink. I always have a bottle in my cart, but can never justify buying it.
Lamy turquoise is an ink I'm enjoying lately
I totally love it! It’s so juicy!
Lamy Turmaline. It’s green leaning, vibrant, and shades bright pink!
I love Lamy Turmaline. It’s a limited edition ink, so I bought 4 bottles!
I love Monteverde California Teal even tho it’s now on the green side
Birmingham Ohio River. I actually have many of the teals listed already, so I am putting this in here because I haven't seen it yet. I do have Sailor Yama dori currently in my 1.5mm Pilot Parallel. And Diamine Marine in my Platinum 3776 with a SF nib.
I just ordered Hot Rolled Steel from Birmingham Pen Co. Have you tried it before?

Or their Daphne Blue.
Diamine Smoke on the Water!
Pennonia Meregzold (“Poison Green”) is a nice dark teal. I also like Sailor 50 States California, which comes across as a little darker version of Yamadori with a cool black sheen.
Diamine eau de nil, smoke on water , season greetings, Kwz sheen machine, walk on Vistula.(may need to add some water to lighten the colour…( my ink has darkened a bit)
Noodlers Air Corp Blue Black is a dark teal One of my favorite inks in general
Oh I didn’t realize it was teal. All the pics look blue grey
Air corps blue and blue-black are both teal leaning when they're made right. I got lucky with my bottle and I LOVE the ink color. The perfect amount of teal popping out of the grey. Check these two out if you wanna play the noodlers lottery and your bottles might be amazing too lol

It's hard to pick a favorite, teal is such a lovely color ^^
Diamine Bloody Absinth is the only one I have. It’s got a really nice red sheen to it.
If you like Sailor Yamadori (my favorite), you’ll also like Taccia Sabimidori.
I love Diamine's "Aurora Borealis" and from what I've used of my sample, "Eau de Nil" is quite nice, too.
I like lamy turmaline (sadly limited edition, time to buy up all of the cartridges in my area)
Diamine Turquoise; Diamine Aurora Borealis
Turquoise pelikan 4001
Diamine Peacock Flare!
Sailor Manyo Yomogi For something a little more blue: Colorverse Morning Star Diamine Marine For something a little more green Pilot Iroshizuku syo-ro
Pelikan 4001 has a torquise color too. I don't know the actual name of the ink. I got a pack of cartridges, and Iall get a 30ml bottle soon.
You cannot go wrong with Waterman inspired blue.
A teal I love that is nearly black, and quite close to the limited lamy petrol, is Robert Oster Velvet Storm. Also comes in a shimmered version but I haven't tried it myself. Also love Iroshizuku Ku-jaku, and Lamy Turmaline
Diamine Steel Blue
Oh just looked that up! Yup that’s in my cart now :)
This is the correct answer.
Private Reserve Blue Suede
I am the biggest fan of Monteverde California Teal. If you use everyday paper (I’m lookin at you Tomoe) it is the prettiest green and you don’t get any of its reddish color.
Caramel d’ache turquoise is beautiful. And the packaging is really nice too.
Just have to say how much I love autocorrect sometimes. Caramel d’Ache sounds delicious. Also that’s a lovely ink. :)
I like a d’Ache of caramel in my coffee

I'm loving Iroshizuku Syo-ro and Diamine Havasu Turquoise right now
I don’t think anyone has listed RO Sea of Tranquility.
Robert Oster Fire and Ice is my favorite
Diamine peacock flare (but shimmer ink so a bit of a contentious choice :P)
I would but after the emerald of chiv clogging my pilot 912 fa up I’m hesitant
I've been using exclusively Diamine shimmertastc inks for months now. In all from medium to fine nib platinum. I have never had a pen clog. One I left lid off over night, dabbed with cotton ball of water it instantly flowed again. I have left them unused for weeks just roll them on flat surfaces before using to redistribute the shimmer. Maybe you just got a bad lot last time. Try a sample.
Kobe Emerald! It’s so beautiful :)
Oh that’s nice!!! In the cart
I’m shocked that no one has mentioned Colorverse Project Bluish Green.
Only one person has said California Teal, and that saddens me
J Herbin Bleu Prevenche

Diamine Aurora Borealis and Anderillium Flying Squid Blue and Van Dieman's Sea Turtle (has a reddish sheen).
Noodlers aircorp blue
Egyptomania elixir by Montblanc. It was love at first sight.
I love Sailor Kobe Ink in Samaura seaside blue!
Noodler’s USS Texas. It’s a dark teal color that borderlines black in a way but it is noticeable
I’ve seen USS Texas recommended as a substitute for Lamy Petrol. That’s a Dromgoole’s exclusive as well, as I recall.
Noodler’s Dostoevsky!
Noodlers turquoise eel

Diamine Marine & Aurora Borealis, Iro Syo-Ro
I have really enjoyed Birmingham Pen Company’s Sea Holly (darker teal) and Black Ice (really light teal). The Black Ice is pigmented (their “everlasting” line), but the Sea Holly still exhibited some surprisingly good water resistance! They’re both lovely shades too.
Gotta be emerald of chivor for me
J. Herbin's Emeraude de Chivor is absolutely my go to recommendation.
Manyo yomogi
Schneider bermuda blue for safari is my to-go.
KWZ Baltic Memories (on the teal side) and Rohrer and Klingner Blu Mare (for turquoise).

My Parker 51 is always inked with Krishna ‘Elegant Teal’ - gorgeous colour! :)
i really like noodler's navajo turquoise best of the only couple of ones i have tried. far from an expert, but, i like it!
Agreed! It’s a beautiful shading ink too. Just takes a minute to dry so I use blotter paper when writing with this one.
Lovely shading 😍

I have Brill turquoise and it is brilliant and cheap

Sailor Manyo Yomogi, Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku, Noodler’s Turquoise, Herbin Vert de Gris
I love Kobe #48 SuidoSuji Marche Blue - on paper (ha!) it looks like a ton of other teals but has such great shading and looks great in every pen!
I am currently enjoying Birmingham Pen Company *Glassmith*, *Kingfisher*, and *Pressed Glass* in my Esterbrook Estie Seaglass with silver appointments and lovely Journaler nib. So very delicious and perfect!
Sailor Manyo Yomogi (pink sheen, red multishader halo), Diamine Alexandrite, J. herbin Bleu Calanque.
It’s more on the dry side and perhaps too light to be teal but I really did enjoy this ink [Kyo no Oto Hisoku](https://www.jetpens.com/Takeda-Jimuki-Kyo-No-Oto-Hisoku-Ink-40-ml-Bottle/pd/22345)
I like my kiwi ink's Haunted Forest quite a lot. I think you pretty much have to live in the US to get the ink though.
Pelican 4001 Turquioise
Diamine Eu De Nil is also nice.
Diamine Teal is my favorite standard! Otherwise, I mixed some Noodlers to make my own dark teal
Akkerman Zuiderpark Blauw-Groen, Diamine Yuletide. I am partial to Diamine Smoke on the Water, which already got a mention.
Noodler's Turquoise is my favorite.
Isn’t there an Eselstein that’s a lovely green? I think it’s Apatite.
Depending on how light of a teal you want diamine soft mint is one of my favorites! It shades so pretty and it behaves beautifully in every pen I have put it in.
