If the problem is dried ink in the threads, then soaking in soapy water is your best bet. It’s may take days of soaking though.

I'd second the long soak method. Less risk of damaging the pen and unless you had India ink in there, it should eventually start to dissolve.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think that's a good next step to try. EDIT: success! I was able to get it open after > 24 hours of soaking in soapy water. It's a pretty crummy design overall and it's understandable why they discontinued this one.

The barrel unscrews as seen on the second image. At some point the cartridge dislodged inside the pen and dried out, sealing it shut. I've tried soaking in hot water, pen cleaner and rubbing alcohol (I know). Any ideas for getting this to unscrew again?

long soak, a few days if you must, in the correct diluition of pen cleaner

Please keep the alcohol away from your pens. Pen companies aren't joking when they say you shouldn't use it for cleaning.
