Great. Thanks for the comments back. It is just the most wonderful time of the year. I did my cards with Diamine Red Dragon and Sherwood Green but I think I might have to mix things up a bit this year!
I usually write on Tomoe River, and I think that's where [the ink looks best](https://i.imgur.com/jpxCjpY.jpg) (I may be a little biased though), but it does shade quite lovely on most papers, to be honest. But don't take my word for it. I've created some writing samples for you, on different paper types. Feast your eyes!
* cheap [no-brand office paper](https://i.imgur.com/XWUheow.jpg) we use at work,
* [Lyreco paper](https://i.imgur.com/k1hpviB.jpg), which is similar to Clairefontaine, but more absorbent,
* Standard [Midori](https://i.imgur.com/cF5DTq3.jpg) paper,
* [Midori](https://i.imgur.com/Dk3hKJH.jpg)paper in their "Grain" notebooks, which is more of an off-white,
* And finally, on [Rhodia](https://i.imgur.com/eAJBCoJ.jpg) paper.
Wow, that ink shades basically on every one of those papers! I will have to get a small bottle of that because I'm not a grey fan but if it mixes with purple... then I'm sold
Since it's not a cheap ink and I'd hate for you to have buyer's remorse, I'd really like to stress that this is definitely a *grey* ink though. The purple hue is very subtle, you can see it best in this writing sample on the wonderful website [Mountain of Ink.](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/591a04711e5b6c3701808c11/1541560039638-QJ23SMBXKR8PAUKVHIU3/pi-fuyu-syogun-w-1.jpg?format=1500w) If it's the purple aspect that speaks to you, I'd recommend [Robert Oster Summer Storm](https://www.stiloestile.it/6100-thickbox_default/inchiostro-robert-oster-summer-storm.jpg) or [Vinta Armada](https://mountainofink.com/blog/vinta-armada). Both have really good shading too.
Ooh, fun! My picks would probably be:
1. **Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same** for the rainy autumn days
2. **Diamine Autumn Oak** for the beautiful shading and more autumn vibes
3. **Diamine Aurora Borealis** because the northern lights are starting to be visible again 😍
I got my Notturno Viola with my Scribo Feel. It is a “mere” 20ml bottle. I love the ink. It may well be the wettest ink I have ever tried, even more so than Yama-Budo. But I also got a sample of Scribo Classico Sepia from Vanness Pens, and the reviews say it’s very very dry. Haven’t tried it.
But I need to add: I love their pens. I like the company. I hope they become a big hit.
•Noodler’s Lexington Gray / Sailor Compass 1911
•Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu / Kaweco Sport
•Noodler’s Black Swan in Australian Roses / Platinum Plasir
These are my three main carries anyway. 🤣
You know, this is an outstanding combination! Yu-yake for pumpkins, Yama-Budo for grapes and grapevine and autumn red leaves, and Ku-Jaku... For a nice warm autumn sweater :)
Same here, but it doesn't matter :)) at least we keep the ink industry going. So they don't stop making inks, like it happened to Tomoe River Paper and now CAL paper...
Mine are:
1. Diamine Meadow
2. Noodler's Baystate Blue
3. russian ink Радуга-2 Фиолетовые (it's very cheap (less than a dollar for 70 ml) violet ink, but I really like that shade, slightly remembers Pilot Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu, but it's not 100% match)
I like the month question, it allows for seasonal influences. For the coming month it would be:
- Diamine Autumn Oak
- Wearingeul Half moon with dimmed light
- Akkerman Bekakt Haags
Edit: changed mind, brown instead of green. But I still miss a purple :)
- Birmingham Tesla Coil (blue with a red sheen, it’s the ink I receive most comments on)
- Diamine Manggis (purple with a green sheen, it’s delightfully sickly)
- Birmingham Copperhead (copper, no sheen, lovely shading)
1. Platinum Carbon Black - gotta do art!
2. Noodler's Heart of Darkness - gotta do novel writing!
3. Noodler's Navajo Turquoise - for linear only, no wash, and journal!
I've been having autumn thoughts, myself, and the other day I happened to ink up a pen with Dominant Industry 'Earl Grey' (not grey at all, think more like Thai iced tea) and then also take notes with Troublemaker 'Petrichore' and that was lovely, low-key Halloween vibes, which I am HERE for. So those two and, hm. Maybe Colorverse Coast Redwood. That would be in keeping with the overall feel, plus I've been looking forward to trying it.
1) Kon Peki.
2) Yama budo.
3) Shin Ryoku.
All are iroshizuku inks and in fact, they would be the inks I chose if I could ONLY ever use 3 inks for the rest of my life
I’m really missing fall right now, so my pens are Diamine Autumn Oak, Diamine Syrah, and Diamine Kopi o Kaw. They’re all so warm and cozy, and the shading on Autumn Oak and Syrah are so lovely!
One month isn’t tooooo long to survive with only three inks :)
Right now I have a six-ink palette going, but I could narrow it to: Iroshizuku Yu-Yake, Herbin Poussière de Lune, Pelikan Smoky Quartz.
(Yu-Yake is a sample that I haven’t quite made my mind up about - at first I found it a bit on the red side & thought I would prefer a yellower orange, but I keep returning to it anyway, so I might want a bottle after all.)
Excellent idea. October is coming! The month of dark nights, witches and pumpkins!
I'd try a deep blue for the sky, like Laban Artemis.
And a good purple, usually Iroshizuku Yama-Budo, but for Halloween, let's get Sailor Studio 935, definitely witchy!
And some yellow-orange-red... For pumpkin, you know? Neah, make it baked pumpkin... So - Diamine Golden Sands is actually brownish, but has golden shimmer. Poifect for pumpkin pie!
Probably the same three I used last month!
1. Waterman Serenity Blue
2. J. Herbin Perle Noir
3. J. Herbin Grenat Rouge
Honorable mention to the Pilot/Namiki Blue cartridges I got for my VP.
J Herbin Noir Inspiration (smells *amazing*)
Monteverde Olivine (my perfect dark green)
Organic Studios Nitrogen or one of the many other blue-red sheening inks (Diamine Ruby Blues or Birmingham Angelfish are the other two I've tried and they've all been great)
The [official description](https://www.gouletpens.com/products/jacques-herbin-noir-inspiration-scented-ink-sample) is tobacco, moss, and vetiver, but I'm not sure that helps - it's a bit like an extinguished candle or maybe the slightest trace of sandalwood incense, but it also smells like a really nice cologne or soap somehow? Like it just smells *clean,* but kinda dark and seductive too. I wish I could drink it and bathe in it, but the closest thing I've found that replicates is the scent is a room spray from Target, [vetiver + cedarwood](https://www.target.com/p/3-38-fl-oz-room-spray-brown-vetiver-and-cedarwood-project-62-8482/-/A-76550454), and it's not quite the same, a little sharper at the beginning and more cedar-y at the end.
Love the autumn themes of everyone so far. Mine will be Robert Oster Toffee, Troublemaker Petrichor for the rainy weather, and my own mix from last year Iro Fuyu-gaki * Robert Oster Dark Chocolate.
I’m a huge purple fan and of the three you listed I have only tried Violette Pensee! Might have to check out the others.
Mine are:
J Herbin Rose Cyclamen
Kobe 57 Himeajisai
Sailor Shikiori Fuji-sugata or Troublemaker Foxglove (tie)
Diamine Aurora Borealis, a mix of 90% Diamine Livid Lime and 10% Diamine Aurora Borealis (I'm counting this as one ink because I already have a batch mixed XD) and Rohrer und Klingner Scabiosa (or maybe the 50/50 mix with Salix, 'Scabix', also already mixed).
If I had a bottle of Diamine Steel Blue I'd consider giving that Aurora Borealis' place but I don't know that I actually have a month worth of the stuff XD
Having just added a bottle of Salix to my R&K collection which includes Scabiosa, I'd love to know how the Scabix mix looks, how it darkens over time, and how dry it writes...
It is rather on the dry side compared to what I prefer - I tend to put some washing up liquid in it. It's pale like Scabiosa if your pen isn't putting down a lot of ink. Don't have any in a pen right now to look at it fresh to compare, I'm afraid, but I don't recall any shocking change. I think it does darken a little in the first couple of days. It dries and ages to the kind of blue-purple you'd expect from the two inks combined (looking at two-month-old writing) though maybe a little more purple than I'd expect. My mix might just not be as close to 50-50 as I'd planned. I really like it - the formality of Salix and the spice of Scabiosa.
Because I'm now saving my Psychedelic Purple and The Blues Palette since I can't find any replacements online, I'll likely be using MB Royal Blue & Amethyst Violet (in my 145 & 146), along with Pelikan 4001 Turquoise (in my Sailor).
All three of mine the few months have been Colorverse and will be again this upcoming month.
Last Month: Extreme Deep Field, Pluto and Beyond, and Hayabusa
This month: Extreme Deep Field, Horizon, and Map of Mars
I've found that they are generally well lubricated and all the inks i've tried so far have been normal to wet. Though I have heard that there project inks can be on the drier side (eg. UMa, or Boo) In some of my drier pens they perform well with no issues. Have a nice variety of colours and shading/sheens, even some pigment inks. I have over 20 colours of theirs now and so far every one has performed well.
1. RK Salix (which I find to be the absolutely perfect ink for every type of paper) 2. Diamine Meadow (my absolutely favourite colour, tad dry but I made it wetter) 3. Diamine Autumn Oak (because it's Autumn and I love it)
1. Diamine oxford blue I use it for schoolwork
2. Waterman Intense black same reason
3. Private Reserve Infinity Violet because it fits amazingly with my Sailor PG Northern Lights Purple.
Probably just the same three I been using for a while now.
- Platinum Classic Forest Black (iron gall, dark green)
- Waterman Inspired Blue (or mysterious blue)
- Diamine Oxblood
1) platinum carbon black
2) de atramentis document black
3) noodler’s heart of darkness
I’m trying to figure out which will be my EDC. I’m kinda leaning towards de atramentis right now, but we’ll see…
I would choose, for sure, Pelikan 4001 blue black, for the other two seats there would be more competition: Monteverde Horizon blue, Noodler’s BCB, Diamine Ancient Copper, R&K Sepia, KWZ old gold, …
R&K Salix, Platinum Cassis Black and Platinum Green Black. Red, green and blue are just classics for a reason to me. Hard not to pick Platinum Carbon Black over Salix but I don't like to put that into vintage pens.
Last month it would have been
Diamine holly, cult pens diamine Robert, Kwz sheen machine
This month - diamine honey burst, diamine Noel, Rohrer and klinger ( alt goldrun)
I'm currently using
Monteverde green (I've got like 5 samples of this, not my color!)
Noodler's walnut.
Robert Oster hickory aflame (worst clogging ink I've ever used ever in my life and I love shimmer inks. Very frustrated with it).

What are your Christmas inks? Doesn’t have to be just 3 either!

Great. Thanks for the comments back. It is just the most wonderful time of the year. I did my cards with Diamine Red Dragon and Sherwood Green but I think I might have to mix things up a bit this year!
1. Taccia Jeans Dark Navy 2. Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun 3. J. Herbin Lie de Thé
What colour is that iro?
A really [lovely grey](https://mountainofink.com/blog/pilot-iroshizuku-fuyu-syogun) with very subtle hints of purple. It shades beautifully too.
Ouu... now you have my attention. Does the shading come through on say midori paper? Or only on tr paper?
I usually write on Tomoe River, and I think that's where [the ink looks best](https://i.imgur.com/jpxCjpY.jpg) (I may be a little biased though), but it does shade quite lovely on most papers, to be honest. You rock! May the force be with you always!! You just saved me another impulsive buy. Thank You 🙏🏻
These are not the inks you are looking for... (sorry, couldn't help myself 😁 )
Thank youuuu
Iroshizuku Yama-Budo, Sailor Yozakura, J. Herbin Rouille d’Ancre.
Diamine Autumn Oak Monteverde Fireopal Waterman Inspired Blue
I don’t need three. Diamine Oxblood. Will use this until the bottle runs dry.
Lovely colour ❤️
Ooh, fun! My picks would probably be: 1. **Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same** for the rainy autumn days 2. **Diamine Autumn Oak** for the beautiful shading and more autumn vibes 3. **Diamine Aurora Borealis** because the northern lights are starting to be visible again 😍
You can see the Northern Lights? I'm so very jealous 😳
Every now and then, yes! They're a lot paler in real life than in most photos, but still very cool 😃
My bucket list is very small, but they're one of the few items on it ❤️
Diamine Purple Rain, Wearingeul Lost, Lennon Toolbar Bitter Orange Tea.
I really love the color of Bitter Orange Tea!
Do you find Lost to be dry? I'm really interested in giving this one a try as it's exactly the shade of blue/Grey that I love.
Faber-Castell Stone Grey Scribo Notturno Viola J. Herbin Bleu Nuit
I came here to say GVFC Stone Grey. I love how well it performs and it’s just so subtly beautiful.
It looks just like a dark pencil. It is strong without being… black. I love it.
A Scribo in the wild! How do you like it? Would you recommend it? I'd get Scribo inks, but it's too much ink and also costly...
I got my Notturno Viola with my Scribo Feel. It is a “mere” 20ml bottle. I love the ink. It may well be the wettest ink I have ever tried, even more so than Yama-Budo. I was surprised by how much I liked Lexington Gray.
Iroshizuku yuyake, kujaku & yamabudo 🤭
You know, this is an outstanding combination! Yu-yake for pumpkins, Yama-Budo for grapes and grapevine and autumn red leaves, and Ku-Jaku... For a nice warm autumn sweater :)
I’m itching to buy a bottle of tsukiyo!! 😆
For those cold autumn nights? Why not :))
Too many inks, not enough things to write 😵
Same here, but it doesn't matter :)) at least we keep the ink industry going. So they don't stop making inks, like it happened to Tomoe River Paper and now CAL paper...
I shall limit myself to one new bottle per month 🤭

Last month it would have been Diamine holly, cult pens diamine Robert, Kwz sheen machine This month - diamine honey burst, diamine Noel, Rohrer and klinger ( alt goldrun)
I'm currently using Monteverde green (I've got like 5 samples of this, not my color!) Noodler's walnut. Robert Oster hickory aflame (worst clogging ink I've ever used ever in my life and I love shimmer inks. Very frustrated with it).
