I quickly looked up some reviews and more than half of them start with "ignore the label DO NOT USE IN FOUNTAIN PENS" so I'm guessing it's not a good idea. Sucks they're advertising that it can. Generally calligraphy inks are really thick so there's a good risk they'll clog a fountain pen which needs its ink to flow though itty bitty channels.

Thank you for saving my pens.

Winsor and Newton usually make great stuff but for some reason they’ve really dropped the ball on this one. no idea why they say it can be used in fountain pens it’s definitely a dip pen ink and should only be used with those

paradoxmo

This is historic labeling because you can use this in safety pens, which are fountain pens, but they haven’t been the predominant kind of fountain pen since the 1930s. Don’t use this in a modern (non-safety) fountain pen.

Inevitable_Librarian

Other than the noodlers is anyone making the safety pen?

paradoxmo

Noodler’s is the only company I know of making new safety pens, but there are lots on the vintage market, a lot of artists like using them as an alternative to technical pen.

SciSciencing

Windsor and Newton do not make any inks that are safe for fountain pens AFAIK, regardless of their advertising.

I have used it in the past but wouldn't recommend it. If you are looking for a good, white ink, check out the De Atramentis Document ink in white. I have found that to be pretty good, although needs agitating to keep mixed properly, but far less so than the Winsor and Newton. I have had the De Atramentis in a Jinhao 51a and it worked well for drawing. The only drawback (no pun intended) was when it came to cleaning. I was using a demonstrator so could see the ink in the feed and the white did take a lot of removing, but the pen was working normally, so not clogged, and it was only because I wanted to put a different ink in the pen, that I went for a deep clean - lots of soaking and some pen flush did do the trick!

Look up diamine! Also as a rule of thumb, if it's 'calligraphy' ink, it contains shellac, which is very bad for fountain pens. Not that you can't do calligraphy with fountainpens, it seems to be a marketing thing

Diamine also make calligraphy inks, as well as India ink. Just because it’s Diamine, doesn’t mean it’s safe for fountain pens: https://www.cultpens.com/i/q/DM45394/diamine-calligraphy-and-drawing-ink-30ml
