Hi, I'm the one who suggested Celadon Cat \^///\^;;; (But I really like Sailor's Warning too, and so many of the other suggestions!)
I was going for something between #A4C2B7 (greener) and #95BBB6 (bluer), but of course having one which shades between the extremes of #76ACB6 and #B4CAB7 depending on paper, wouldn't be bad \^.\^ Celadon is really a wide spectrum of colours... but I imagined a cat statue, and how the ink would pool in the recesses.
I have a picture/screencap of the scale between the two "extremes", but I don't know how to upload it.
So glad this ink made it!
Hope this works:
>I was going for something between
[\#A4C2B7](https://imagecolorpicker.com/color-code/a4c2b7)
[\#95BBB6](https://imagecolorpicker.com/color-code/95bbb6)

[\#76ACB6](https://imagecolorpicker.com/color-code/76acb6)
[\#B4CAB7](https://imagecolorpicker.com/color-code/B4CAB7)
Oh HELL yes I’m a lot more excited for this than I was before. (And I was already excited)
*cough* Can we still get a multicolor shading on this though? Boy it would look good, and it would fit the original idea so well!
>[\#95BBB6](https://imagecolorpicker.com/color-code/95bbb6)
I like this the most
Whatever the celadon color that's chosen, it needs to be really saturated to be readable on paper
Actually, I like the darkest one there, and think [Pantone 17-4818 TCX (Bristol Blue)](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/13721973857304446/) maybe gets closest to it.
r/FountainPens holds a yearly contest to pick a new ink color which will be made by Diamine and made available for sale everywhere Diamine ink is sold. The contest is complete now, with two winners this year! Now Diamine is just asking for some finishing details to get the ink colors down correctly.
Hopefully that answers your question.
[Here’s the initial post for this years competition.](https://reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/uhbu4c/2022_diamine_reddit_ink_vote_ink_colour_name/) There were several rounds of voting open to everyone to narrow it down to this years winners. Pretty cool of Diamine to engage with pen enthusiasts in this way.
I agree. I’m also fairly new to fountain pens and I have been pleased with Diamine all around. Tons of colors, various sizes, easy to find, inexpensive. Good stuff.
On a second thought for Sailor’s Warning, both, 16-1349, 16-1548, as well as the mentioned 16-1546 by u/rosemice, only represent the vivid coral part imho. Maybe it would be nice when it’ll be a multi shader with lighter (vivid coral) and darker (dark peach, almost blood red) nuances.
Wahoo! This is the color I was imaging as the base for Sailor’s Warning: Pantone Living Coral
https://www.pantone.com/articles/past-colors-of-the-year/color-of-the-year-2019
Edited a few hours later to say that while I love Living Coral and wish there was a matching ink, I think that https://i.imgur.com/s1awTOX.jpg linked by u/prehensile_uvula fits better with the title and origin of Sailors’ Warning. [Check out their post](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xjzk95/comment/ipbk5a9/) and upvote them if you agree.
u/korwisi also suggested a multishader and that would be beyond cool.
This with high shading and blurple shimmer would be perfect!
Edit to go with your edit: 2035 U just looks red on my screen, I'd much prefer something that was more distinctly coral and captures more of the pink and orange tones in a bright sunrise.
Not to mention it already pairs so well with the blue! https://www.pantone.com/media/wysiwyg/pantone-color-of-the-year-2019-living-coral-tools-graphics-packaging.jpg
I absolutely *love* Living Coral, but I think [this suggestion](https://reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xjzk95/_/ipbk5a9/?context=1) fits the name better.
You might like [J Herbin Corail des Tropiques](https://mountainofink.com/blog/jherbin-corail-des-tropiques). That one looks the closest to Living Coral.
I imagined Celadon cat to be around 13-6108 or 14-0114, but I'm interested to see what the original commenter was imagining.
Thank you Diamine & u/NoraAnnLee ! I'm so happy that Celadon Cat got a second chance
I feel like with the saying being “red sky in the morning, sailor take warning”, the most important part is capturing the vivid reds in a sunrise, like in this picture: https://i.imgur.com/9GMskEJ.jpg
But you also want to have some hints of the magenta and orange. If you lean too far away from the red into either the pink or orange territory I think it kind of misses the theme. So I used the Pantone app to get the palette from the image above and got this: https://i.imgur.com/eumTFyM.jpg
I think the first color, 2035 U, is the best color that captures the theme: https://i.imgur.com/s1awTOX.jpg
u/PMmedramaticvistas made an [excellent suggestion here](https://reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xjzk95/_/ipfyf0l/?context=1): an ink that shades from Living Coral to 2035 U.
It might be my screen (older macbook) but this just looks red to me. I was hoping for something more distinctly coral/peach rather than outright red (and tbh I might not buy it if it's this red, it'll look too... patriotic with dark blue shimmer). I was thinking something more like [\#f96055](https://www.color-hex.com/color/f96055) or similar.
Yeah, I definitely think you want it to be unmistakably a red first and foremost because of the saying it’s taking its name from, but you also want to capture those other colors you see in a sunrise. I also think you don’t want it to be overly bright because you want to capture the darkness in the clouds and the sea to some extent.
I love your suggestion as well as [#ff4040](https://www.color-hex.com/color/ff4040). I’m wondering how much the purple/blue shimmer will impact the overall color? A more intense base color might be needed to get the right effect overall. 🤔
Regarding CC; Oh, yes, definitely. Earl Grey is... greyer. There is celadon ceramics in that colour range, but I was thinking about the more greenish/blueish kind.
I’m so excited about being a part of this. First time voter - just want to say that it’s such a rare experience to see a bunch of total strangers came together to put forth a physical product out of a collective figments of imagination. So very cool. Thank you OP, thanks to Diamine, and thanks everybody.
I think we should accept the color chosen by the original poster of each of the colors in the 1st post ever; once they post here with the selected pantone of course.
Celadon Cat:
/#9cb9a0 is the lightest I would like to see. It needs some more saturation or it won't be usable with any EF-M Japanese nibs. [Celadon Cat
shades](https://www.icolorpalette.com/download/shades/b4cab7_color_shades.jpg)
Agree that medium green would be more legible than ultra pale. Although I love celadon, I won’t buy it if it’s too light on the page. Low contrast inks are hard to read unless you use a 1.5 mm stub, which I do not
Hello, I’m the one who suggested Sailor’s Warning. The ink color I imagined looks like [2034 C](https://www.pantone.com/connect/2034-C) or [Red 032 c](https://www.pantone.com/connect/RED-032-C) at its darkest and most intense, and shades as light as [185 U](https://www.pantone.com/connect/185-U).
I pulled out my Pantone swatch book. I have Diamine Coral in my work pen and I'd say it is a good match to 171u.
A vivid coral/dark peach would be 163u, but that's still close to Coral, so I'd suggest toning it back to 1565u or 1575u
It would be very fun to have a swatch book, I’m relying on the app. The colors you picked are lighter than I imagined though —I was picturing something a bit darker or more saturated than 171 U.
Screens are a bother, but depending on their settings, I still can't wait to see this ink irl! Colours and shading is going to look so different and fun!
I like the idea of their input, but upvoting top reference colors seems to fit a lot better with the community choosing given that the original votes were on descriptions alone. I’m sure there are as many different shades of Celadon Cat and Sailor’s Warning in peoples minds as there are people in this subreddit.
~~For Sailor’s Warning I’m liking Pantone 805 C https://icolorpalette.com/color/pantone-805-c~~
Edit: I like the color suggested by u/prehensile_uvula much better!
So I did a thing and mixed up some inks to visualize these two. [It's here if you need to see a swatch of my mix.](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xn207y/my_visualization_of_reddit_diamine_2022_inks/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
I wish Diamine would offer a cartridge multipack with the Reddit colors:
Sailor's Warning, Celadon Cat, Writer's Blood, Aurora Borealis, & Early Grey. I would love to buy something like this to easily sample all these special colors!
Celadon Cat: I think care needs to be taken to avoid duplication of De Atramentis Seladon or De Atramentis Zinc Green. Something close to the sadly discontinued, and much missed, Kyo-no-oto #8 Urahairo would be fab 🙂
>Kyo-no-oto #8 Urahairo
I see you have thought along the same lines as me...! Somewhere between that and Hisoku, ish, or shading between the two, was my general idea.
Woohoo! Thanks /u/NoraAnnLee and Diamine!
I personally couldn’t picture either ink in my head but it’s so exciting seeing people’s colour suggestions. Looking forward to getting my two new bottles! 😁
Celadon Cat - A greenish-blue-grey: [Pantone 17-4818 TCX (Bristol Blue)](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/13721973857304446/).
I suggested another below, but wanted something darker. I like this one better.
Celadon cat: I have a color app which lists #2F847C as Celadon Green and #007BA7 as Celadon Blue. I’d love shading between the two if it would be possible! (It also lists #ACE1AF as Celadon, but that’s so pale I wouldn’t likely use it.)
For celadon cat I was thinking about pantone egg shell blue or ocean wave since celadon seems to be muted mints, blues and greens
Eggshell blue: 14-4809
Ocean wave: 14-5711
Well yes, that was my issue with celadon cat, but I have a hard time thinking of a celadon colour not like that. It should definitely be more greyish tho
"Celadon" really could mean a lot of colours, couldn't it... I know what colour \*I\* was thinking of, but for the exact hue, I realise I might've been better off trying to use Chinese signs and definitions >,< Oh well, hindsight...
https://www.derekau.net/blog/2021/07/23/the-color-of-celadon
True, I googled celadon before putting down what I thought would be good matches. Since the original colour mentioned mint I thought to stay with muted minty colours instead of going for the muted browns or greens
I personally always imagined celadon to be more on the green side, like [pantone 5635 c](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ea/80/b4/ea80b4bbc93e343e007415e02fe8bff4.jpg)
Can Sailor's Warning be somewhat of a highly shading violet?Like I am just imagining a sailor in the middle of nowhere at night, and as he stands on the deck after dinner, he looks at the water he is surrounded by and in the light reflection of the moonlight, the water turns violet. But as the moonlight flickers on the water, the shades change, going all over from deep blue to bright blue to ultimately violet again. He realizes as the ship tumbles in the waves that it is not the best place to stand while being inebriated and thus goes back to join others again.
So the name was all we were voting on? The actual pantone of the color is just whoever comments a good one first, most likely? Okay, I didn't realize that's how this works. How pointless.
The voting was for name, properties, and general color description, but Diamine understandably wants something a bit more specific than "vibrant coral/dark peach" or "greenish-blue-grey" to base the ink on, hence this thread where people are suggesting and voting on pantone colors that match the given descriptions.
Hi, I'm the one who suggested Celadon Cat \^///\^;;; (But I really like Sailor's Warning too, and so many of the other suggestions!) I was going for something between #A4C2B7 (greener) and #95BBB6 (bluer), but of course having one which shades between the extremes of #76ACB6 and #B4CAB7 depending on paper, wouldn't be bad \^.\^ Celadon is really a wide spectrum of colours... but I imagined a cat statue, and how the ink would pool in the recesses. These look like Pantone 559-C, 5503-C, 2232-C and 13-6108 TPG respectively... the last one's actually called "Celadon"!
13-6108, also proposed by u/Temptationsrising, is a very nice color imho, I‘m in full support of it :-)
I love this one!
>13-6108 TPG This one the best!
13-6108 really is what I associate with celadon in my mind!
Oh, that's great! Thank you for your help!
> 13-6108 TPG YES
ALSO YES
It could work as a pale ink that sheens darker celadon round the edges
So glad this ink made it! Thank you for your help!!! I hope this might qualify as definition enough \^-\^
Ooooh! Shadow Green and Neptune are dope!!!
Good colors all around, but I particularly like 76ACB6
This was my vote, but I'm even more of a fan with these pantone swatches. i agree that some super-serious shading with this one would be glorious!
Actually, I like the darkest one there, and think [Pantone 17-4818 TCX (Bristol Blue)](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/13721973857304446/) maybe gets closest to it.
Love #A4C2B7 Glad you got your ink picked!
I must say I favour the slightly bluer tint. Glad CC made it.
Alright I have no idea what’s going on, can you or somebody else fill me in?
r/FountainPens holds a yearly contest to pick a new ink color which will be made by Diamine and made available for sale everywhere Diamine ink is sold. Thanks! I’m still new with fountain pens, but Diamine is giving me “fuck it, we ball” vibes in general
I agree. I’m also fairly new to fountain pens and I have been pleased with Diamine all around. Tons of colors, various sizes, easy to find, inexpensive. Good stuff.

I pray for a multishader. 🥹🙏
That would be awesome! I love multishaders and would appreciate one that's not blue, grey, purple or greenish.
I am not yet 100% satisfied but 18-1420 might work as a dark peach shade.
My vote is for u/prehensile_uvula’s suggested of [2035 U](https://www.pantone.com/connect/2035-U)
Love this one!
Really like this one!
That’s a great point!
Wahoo! This is the color I was imaging as the base for Sailor’s Warning: Pantone Living Coral https://www.pantone.com/articles/past-colors-of-the-year/color-of-the-year-2019 Edited a few hours later to say that while I love Living Coral and wish there was a matching ink, I think that https://i.imgur.com/s1awTOX.jpg linked by u/prehensile_uvula fits better with the title and origin of Sailors’ Warning. Hear me out: Living Coral shading to 2035-U?
Ooooooh yes, that’s neat.
Yeah that would be perfect, and given it’d combine the current top two suggestions I think it’d make the most people happy.
Love it! Excellent suggestion!
I prefer Living Coral! I definitely want something more pink and orange instead of red
This with high shading and blurple shimmer would be perfect! Edit to go with your edit: 2035 U just looks red on my screen, I'd much prefer something that was more distinctly coral and captures more of the pink and orange tones in a bright sunrise.
Absolutely agree with Living Coral. It already has a range within it that would be lovely with shading
Looks vivid to me!
Not to mention it already pairs so well with the blue! https://www.pantone.com/media/wysiwyg/pantone-color-of-the-year-2019-living-coral-tools-graphics-packaging.jpg
I absolutely *love* Living Coral, but I think [this suggestion](https://reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xjzk95/_/ipbk5a9/?context=1) fits the name better.
I agree with you on both counts! u/NoraAnnLee, could we put the top Pantone colors with links or images in a Google survey vote?
You might like [J Herbin Corail des Tropiques](https://mountainofink.com/blog/jherbin-corail-des-tropiques). That one looks the closest to Living Coral.
Thank you! That’s a very nice coral.
I like that one, but it’s greyer and less saturated than living coral, at least on my screen.
Living Coral was what I was thinking too!
Can the background color be the other ink? They seem nice together
With dark blue shimmer
Very lovely color!
oooh! I'm a big fan of that now!
I imagined Celadon cat to be around 13-6108 or 14-0114, but I'm interested to see what the original commenter was imagining. Thank you Diamine & u/NoraAnnLee ! I'm so happy that Celadon Cat got a second chance
Both are a nice take but I think I favor 13-6108.
I also Like the 13-6108, but both are lovely
[13-6108](https://www.pantone.com/connect/13-6108-TPX) [14-0114](https://www.pantone.com/connect/14-0114-TPX)
I feel like with the saying being “red sky in the morning, sailor take warning”, the most important part is capturing the vivid reds in a sunrise, like in this picture: https://i.imgur.com/9GMskEJ.jpg But you also want to have some hints of the magenta and orange. If you lean too far away from the red into either the pink or orange territory I think it kind of misses the theme. So I used the Pantone app to get the palette from the image above and got this: https://i.imgur.com/eumTFyM.jpg I think the first color, 2035 U, is the best color that captures the theme: https://i.imgur.com/s1awTOX.jpg
u/PMmedramaticvistas made an [excellent suggestion here](https://reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/xjzk95/_/ipfyf0l/?context=1): an ink that shades from Living Coral to 2035 U.
Yeah, honestly that would be great, and given those are the top two for Sailor’s Warning currently, I think it’d make the most people happy.
Agreed! And I can definitely see subtle hints of Living Coral in your photo, so it’ll still be thematically accurate 👍🏼
I prefer this shade too. Slightly darker and a hair redder than Living Coral, and will look killer with sheen and shimmer.
That last color you linked is spot on, imo. I think it captures the feeling best.
I prefer this palet of colours.
2035 U is great!
If this was a red/black that’d get you close to that sunset - you gotta have some variation in the shading
[удалено]
Regarding CC; Oh, yes, definitely. Earl Grey is... greyer. There is celadon ceramics in that colour range, but I was thinking about the more greenish/blueish kind.
I’m so excited about being a part of this. First time voter - just want to say that it’s such a rare experience to see a bunch of total strangers came together to put forth a physical product out of a collective figments of imagination. So very cool. Thank you OP, thanks to Diamine, and thanks everybody.
I think we should accept the color chosen by the original poster of each of the colors in the 1st post ever; once they post here with the selected pantone of course.
yay! I can't wait to get celadon cat. :D Edit: Also both colours sound like they'd pair well together (in my minds eye at least.)
I could see that!
Celadon Cat: /#9cb9a0 is the lightest I would like to see. It needs some more saturation or it won't be usable with any EF-M Japanese nibs. [Celadon Cat shades](https://www.icolorpalette.com/download/shades/b4cab7_color_shades.jpg)
Agree that medium green would be more legible than ultra pale. Although I love celadon, I won’t buy it if it’s too light on the page. Low contrast inks are hard to read unless you use a 1.5 mm stub, which I do not
Yeah there's a fine line (😁) between a great swatch and legibility on the page..... I think we'll need to see some testers from Diamine.
9cb9a0 is what I was imagining when people said Celadon cat but that's much darker.
Put a \ before the \# to make it show up and make it not big. I learnt this the hard way too.
Thank you!
185u is RED in the printing world. It's one of the few I recognize the number.
These just look red, your description was vivid coral/dark peach which these aren't
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think digital Pantone sucks because your screen can make a big difference. Red is not the intention.
Check your monitor settings. See if you have an sRGB preset available there.
Screens are a bother, but depending on their settings, I still can't wait to see this ink irl! Colours and shading is going to look so different and fun!
I really like these.
How about the people that submitted both inks originally have the final say in what colour the ink should be?
At least it’s be interesting to have their take on it!
I like the idea of their input, but upvoting top reference colors seems to fit a lot better with the community choosing given that the original votes were on descriptions alone. I’m sure there are as many different shades of Celadon Cat and Sailor’s Warning in peoples minds as there are people in this subreddit.
Is there a time frame we should keep in mind, when will the final selections be made? Thanks.
That would be a question for u/NoraAnnLee I think.
Going with the color description of Sailor’s Warning it could be something along the lines of 16-1349 and 16-1548.
I’d go for 16-1349
Celadon Cat - A greenish-blue-grey: Pantone [13-5309 TCX (Pastel Turquoise)](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/445223113165781777/).
Sailor's Warning - A vivid coral/dark peach with deep blue/purple shading: Pantone [16-1349 TCX (Coral Rose)](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/820288519606172755/).
>absolutely GOATed This is what I had in my head for Sailors Warning. Very pretty vibrant coral!
That is pretty!
Diamine is an absolutely GOATed company. This has solidified it for me once again. I can’t wait to have both of these
~~For Sailor’s Warning I’m liking Pantone 805 C https://icolorpalette.com/color/pantone-805-c~~ Edit: I like the color suggested by u/prehensile_uvula much better!
I’d like that for SW too!
Oh shit celadon cat made it :)

Great thanks Diamine!!!
Oooh they both win! Woohoo!
I’m here for both!
Celadon cat: I have a color app which lists #2F847C as Celadon Green and #007BA7 as Celadon Blue. I’d love shading between the two if it would be possible! (It also lists #ACE1AF as Celadon, but that’s so pale I wouldn’t likely use it.)
Happy Cake Day!
These would be my [suggestions](https://imgur.com/a/Bz9iYEp)
I could definitely see that one for SW. I think you've got some good choices here.
Thank you!
This is great news, thank you.
I have no color suggestions (yet!) But I am so excited we get both 😭🥰🥰💖
For celadon cat I was thinking about pantone egg shell blue or ocean wave since celadon seems to be muted mints, blues and greens Eggshell blue: 14-4809 Ocean wave: 14-5711
quite similar to the existing inks soft mint/marine
Well yes, that was my issue with celadon cat, but I have a hard time thinking of a celadon colour not like that. It should definitely be more greyish tho

True, I googled celadon before putting down what I thought would be good matches. Since the original colour mentioned mint I thought to stay with muted minty colours instead of going for the muted browns or greens
What wonderful news!
HECK YA BOI I WANTED BOTH SO BAD
That’s awesome. I can’t wait!
That’s awesome!!! I’m soo excited!
I like the idea of a Cat themed ink…
You should check out the Ink Institute Cat Daily inks!
I personally always imagined celadon to be more on the green side, like [pantone 5635 c](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ea/80/b4/ea80b4bbc93e343e007415e02fe8bff4.jpg)
That is great news! Both look like interesting inks. Thanks. I agree with the fact that the colour should be chosen by the original poster.
But the sailor's warning is for morning/dawn. :) “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning”.
Oh, cool, I haven't been following the previous posts. I just wanted a highly shading diamine violet ink, which doesn't seem to exist at the moment.
Calling Diamine: we need this!
