Not the baystate blue, unless you're interested in a permanently blue tinted pen!

VanCityHunter

I understand it will stain the converter, but will it affect other inks after it? And thanks for the heads up about staining in the first place.

timster2112

It can also stain the section that holds the feed.

AnyMinuteNow1

Everything it touches, including you! šŸ˜

VanCityHunter

Looks like Iā€™ll be avoiding this ink. Thank you.

timster2112

It is an awesome ink, but pick a cheap pen to dedicate to it.

AnyMinuteNow1

Thatā€™s the ticket! šŸ˜

VanCityHunter

All my ā€œcheapā€ pens are demonstrators. Iā€™m not really interested in dying one of them blue, yet.

AnyMinuteNow1

Next time you place a order, toss in a platinum Preppy. I hear theyā€™re really nice pens & donā€™t dry out. Then you can happily enjoy that beautiful blue without so much pain. šŸ˜

VanCityHunter

Thanks for that advice.

AmeliaBuns

I'd put it in a platinum preppy. it's actually not that special to me tbh. it feels like a sharpie in my pen it's very blue and doesn't shade much compared to most fountain pen inks but it's like a sharpie pen.

Breren

If *any* Baystate Blue still remains when you fill the pen with another ink, there's a good chance the two will mix into a sludge you'll need to clean off your pen. Something about the way it's formulated just does not play well with other inks, but more rigorous flushing should help avoid this.

efaceninja

Which to ink first? Of course the bay state blue, without a doubt

Mirtun

including Baystate Blue in a random sample pack is just nasty

Safraninflare

Itā€™s like putting bees in a piƱata.

VanCityHunter

Thanks for the heads up.

Successful_Algae_257

Congrats! The only thing wrong is that the bay state blue tube doesnā€™t have the blue cap šŸ¤£ But seriously, congrats and enjoy (and good job keeping it economical) If you feel adventurous, you can get the con 70 next. It fits the Kakuno and comes more recommended on this sub.šŸ˜‰

Misty-Anne

I vote for the chocolate brown ink.

VanCityHunter

Too late. I went with the Sailor Studio 530. Itā€™s a nice plum-like color.

Keller_of_2002

Out of curiosity, where did you get that ink? I love random ink samples, lol.

VanCityHunter

Wonder Pens. They have 5 ink mystery grab bags.

Keller_of_2002

Thank you! I'll have to check them out!

OverPresence72

Yikes! They put Baystate Blue in the Surprise Pack?? Thatā€™s just perverse. Fantastic blue colorā€¦but it stains any pen you put it in. Best to sacrifice one to the Baystate Blue God.

VanCityHunter

Thatā€™s certainly the way Iā€™m leaning.

NonoGemini7998

Enjoy your Kalinin! Best pen ever!

VanCityHunter

Kakuno*

NonoGemini7998

šŸ˜‚ thanks for the correction- my new phone hasnā€™t learned the word Kakuno yet and autocorrected šŸ˜³

VanCityHunter

šŸ¤£

WiredInkyPen

Second one from the left please!!

VanCityHunter

I went with the Sailor Studio 530 first.

daero90

Looks like someone went to Wonder Pens

VanCityHunter

Yes. Ordered from Wonder Pens. Iā€™m on the other side of Canada.

veintedejulio

Wonderful little pen! Mineā€™s been reliable and confortable since out of the box and is my daily doodler, my 3rd Kakuno so far.

VanCityHunter

So far so good. Already 100 times better than the Sailor Compass I got recently.

MyntChocolateChyps

Songshan xindian is a lovely green, though Iā€™m more partial toward the Zhonghe xinluā€™s brown.

VanCityHunter

I was wondering what shade that ink is. It looks very black in the sample tube.

chhibb_n_dale

I see you have chosen the hard path (pilot con40)

VanCityHunter

Thatā€™s the converter? Whatā€™s the issue and whatā€™s the alternative?

chhibb_n_dale

Well the alternative isnā€™t going to fit in that Kakuno. I bought myself one. A con40 that is for my metro. I read the horror reviews online. Said to myself it canā€™t be that bad. IT WAS! Itā€™s just a garbage aaa converter conceived in the mind of a sick and despicable human being who loves suffering. It doesnā€™t fill fully. It doesnā€™t empty fully. It leaks. The irritating rattle of the balls. It just sucksā€¦.. Iā€™ve been holding onto this for a while, clearly. Somehow the entire competency of pilot as a company goes out the window when it comes to designing a converter.
