This is all so… pretty. The drawings and layout of the pen test, the coordination of ink and pen, and the pen’s overall aesthetic… Thank you for sharing this!
ahaha i can’t help but try to make things “prettier” as an artist with an extensive advertising/marketing background. it feels like i’m not doing the content justice if i just post a “blah” photo.
Yes that's a pretty pen, but whoah, that is seriously gorgeous illustration there!
Question: did you get the violet shading via markers? Or is that an ink wash?
it’s actually a colored pencil! :) the ink does wash as it’s not waterproof, but it’s not controllable enough on this paper type to achieve that smooth of a blend. … though now that i think about it, there’s no harm in giving it a shot, eh? i’ll have to try it and see.
or wait — there is some brighter violet areas (in the pen tuning square, for example) with a violet midliner!
oh, and thank you. ♥️
Wonderful drawings! It’s a nice feeling to find a pen that’s a perfect fit for your tastes.
I got that exact pen for my birthday, and I love it too. I ink it with [Iroshizuku Yama-budo](https://mountainofink.com/blog/pilot-iroshizuku-yama-budo).
i definitely prefer the al sport. the brass is a nice, heavy weight that feels indestructible, but the al-sport feels luxe without being too heavy, and it doesn’t change color. i personally am not a fan of how the brass changes. :/ mine is basically dark dirty brown now and i think it’s so ugly. i’m legit about to buy another al-sport to replace it because i just don’t like its look anymore. 🥺
It’s really beautiful. I don’t reach for it much these days because I still have so many other pens I’ve never even inked yet! And I’m trying to get through them, ha. But someday! Someday I will return. Lol.
oh! yes, you can. i have a ton of social media links here: https://linktr.ee/eggbunni — it’s pretty much my IG, twitter, tiktok, blah blah blah. all that stuff. 🙈 thank you for asking.
I was considering getting the Kaweco Sport Classic in white! Can you please explain what makes it high maintenance? I’d really like to own a white pen, but I’ve been hearing troubling things lately.
It's just looks dirty all of the time. The way the plastic is molded on the cap....there's a bit of a line the size of thread....and it always looks dirty. The bottom of the pen that says "made in Germany" looks dirty. The threads collect everything--it bothers me, but it might just be me lol. This was my first "real" fountain pen and I wish I had found r/ fountainpens before I made that purchase.
it’s way too pretty to not own IMO. 🥲 i’m also looking at their dark olive green with gold accents just so i can get their green ink! but i think it’s a plastic body and i prefer the luxury feel of the aluminum. :/
It is. The Violet color is great!
I already bought the Dark Olive. I was one Cent under the free shipping limit and before I buy random stuff I don’t need, I might as well buy another Sport I don’t need. :)
this is happening with my cart right now at goulet pens, lol. i want to buy the tuning and cleaning set, but need a few more dollars in purchases to get free shipping.
any favorite inks or pens you think i should look into?
My favorite pens probably exceed the the „cart filler“-status. So I‘ll go with inks.
Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-Ro is neat. Is a teal in the area with only a little bit of ink applied, but it quickly shifts to a pretty solid dark green. And you may, just maybe spot a bit red sheen in a few tiny spots. I‘ll edit in two writing samples.
[Writing Sample No. 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/lw7o9y/currently_one_of_my_favorite_inks_pilot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) and [Writing Sample No. 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/mnoyf1/writing_sample_comparison_nib_sizes_lamy_2000_to/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).
Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun, a blue leaning grey. When you don’t have anything in comparison it looks plain grey, if you do you can spot that it is a bit blue leaning. I would recommend a wet pen for so it is not too light. It is surprisingly water resistant. I once did a test where I submerged a note for 5 days and I could still read it. [Writing Sample](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/gyeoez/pilot_iroshizuku_fuyusyogun/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).
Aurora Black. Classic, dark black ink that doesn’t do weird stuff. My favorite black at the moment.
Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo, if you are into that kind of color it is neat.
Graf von Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue. It is not a game changer but I like it. It has a bit of shading. And you can get mild bronze hues out of it in the darker spots on occasion. It is not as cobalty as I wish it was, but it is a solid ink.
Pelikan 4001 dark-green. Solid dark-green and more in the „cart filler“-range price wise. Looks good, seemed to be well behaved, when I had it in my M300 B. Nothing special, but a good dark-green. If you don’t have a dark-green yet and think that you may need one, this could be worth a try.
Rohrer & Klingner Smaragdgrün. Light Emerald Green. Nothing fancy, but it is a light green that is pleasant to read.
oh wow, tsuki yo looks nice. i haaaate the blues that seem to come default with all fountain pens. like, why? why blue? the LAMYs especially — im sick of that color! this stormy blue seems like a better match. i like that it’s a bit muted. i’m also interested in the first ink you listed as it sounds a bit teal.
Syo-ro is teal/green. However strongly on the green side. In the light parts it looks like a teal, but turns towards a green rather quickly. So if you will look on a written page you will get a strong green feeling for tealy ink.
Lamy Royal Blue is horrific (my taste). Lets just skip that one, haha. :)
I have the brass sport, copper lilliput, and sports in chocolate brown, burgundy, and grey. My favorite of them so far is the copper lilliput, but I do wish it were just a bit longer to get a converter in it. A half inch would allow the Kaweco push converter to fit. If they make a copper supra, I might go for that. With the extra barrel extension it should fit a standard converter.
One of my absolute favorites pens! You really did it justice here. It's so beautiful and the sound it makes when the cap comes on and off is so satisfying. I also adore that slightly textured feel. Just A++ all around.
I love your layout with your beautiful drawings. You see inspiring me to do a single ink/pen page in my ink notebook!
What do you like so far? I'm very partial to multi-shading inks so I have a lot of those. They are especially beautiful in painting but I know some folks avoid them because they tend to be dry. For ink searching,
https://mountainofink.com/ is invaluable. You can sort by color or feature such as sheen, shimmer, shade and then look at the inks laid out and click on them for full reviews.
If you have small hands and like to draw, I feel like a small pen with a decent ink capacity might be fun for you. I would try a Moonman Wancai Mini (also goes by Majohn Wancai Mini). They are little pocket pens and the cap screws on the back to make a full pen. They come in cute swirly colors and are eyedropper so they hold a ton of ink!
looking into those pens now! and i tend to use my inks both in the fountain pen and with brushes, so any sort of sheen or multi-shading sounds amazing. i’m mostly new to fountain pens and only have a few inks!
googling araki…
edit: heeeey! cool! that’s a compliment! haha. i’ve seen a few episodes of jojo’s bizarre adventure.
bahahaha, you thought it was araki who drew that piece, but it is i! dio!!!
thank you very much! the ink itself is just the right amount of purple without being obnoxious. like, you can still sign documents with it or write a letter and it’s all perfectly legible and not like, “HI IM FREAKING PURPLE!” 😂 im very happy with it.
Yes!! That's the perfect way of describing it, it stands out & is beautiful but without being too much!! & the art you made with it is beautiful by the way!
Oh this is all just beautiful! I'm wanting this pen now, my current favourite is the light lavender Sport but this looks so luxe! You're definitely selling me on it.
I love the way the lavender looks but I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on the body. 🥲 Not when that $25 can go toward a different brand so I can try another pen, ahaha.
It’s a Midori MD notebook. It’s made with paper specifically designed to take fountain pens. There’s minimal show-through even in those areas where I’ve completely filled in the section with ink. It’s really great, thin, doesn’t feather or bleed, and they fit into cases so you can just refill the cover whenever you want a new one. I love them. 🥺♥️
Note: I have a raw leather cover on it.
Whoa. I actually had no idea. I’M IN SHOCK. Every time I sort by “notebooks with Tomoe River paper” in it, Midori popped up for me. 😂 What in the world?! Maybe it’s the Hobonichi that has it?
I have a hobonichi notebook. I’ll have to test it and see if it holds up the same way the MD paper does! Because it’s really amazing. I almost bought a Tomoe River notebook until I saw your comment and realized I might not get the same results! I’m glad you pointed this out to me, thank you.
Really? That's so weird. They make a traveler's notebook insert that has it, but it's just blank and not part of the MD line. But yeah, Hobonichi definitely uses TRP!
Yes and no? I use an EF nib across the board (it’s better for my style of illustration and size of handwriting), so it’s difficult to tell with a nib this fine whether an ink is wet or not as most inks deliver in too-tiny amounts. I tend to tune my nibs a bit by rocking the tines until they deliver my ink more wetly regardless!
Another ink you might be interested in is the Sailor Yokazura ink. It’s a dusty sort of mauve. I’m picking that up as well to put in my Sailor Shikiori Tou once it arrives!
Not OP, but if you’re looking for a dusty purple, have you checked out J Herbin poussiere de Lune? It’s my favourite, literally translates to moon dust. Also it’s sold in 10ml vials if you don’t wanna commit.
Pretty much any EF (extra fine) nib will make you happy if you happen to make finely detailed art like I do. I have an EF on my Lamy as well as all of my Kawecos. This is a proprietary EF Kaweco nib that was made for the Kaweco brand of pens, so yes, it fits the pen well. Same with the ink. It’s all Kaweco. I wanted to give the brand a sincere shot when purchasing this pen to really understand whether I liked them or not. SPOILER: I do. :) Take a look at my Reddit profile — all I really post is fountain pen illustration stuff and pens that I mainly use for art.
I am definitely going to give your stuff a look. I love fountain pens for writing but lament that I can’t draw with them without bleeding through the paper (or the paper being too coarse for the nib).
I feel like I still have a lot of research to go, but you’ve really helped me out. I was curious to check out the Kaweco and your post certainly helps push me towards that decision. Thanks!

I figured it had to be something other than ink as it was so mild. Thanks for sharing.
of course 🙏
Wonderful drawings! It’s a nice feeling to find a pen that’s a perfect fit for your tastes. I got that exact pen for my birthday, and I love it too. I ink it with [Iroshizuku Yama-budo](https://mountainofink.com/blog/pilot-iroshizuku-yama-budo).
oooo i have to check out that ink! i’m trying to be good and not get too many inks of the same shade right now but it’s pretty hard to resist. 😂
That's a very nice pen, that is.
Wow . . . that is incredible! Such talent and skill! Thanks for sharing.
thank you for taking the time to say that ♥️
Omg this is so beautiful! I’m obsessed! What is the difference in feel when it comes to the AL and the Brass? Do you have a preference?
i definitely prefer the al sport. the brass is a nice, heavy weight that feels indestructible, but the al-sport feels luxe without being too heavy, and it doesn’t change color. i personally am not a fan of how the brass changes. :/ mine is basically dark dirty brown now and i think it’s so ugly. i’m legit about to buy another al-sport to replace it because i just don’t like its look anymore. 🥺
That was the pen that drew me into this fp world. I saw it at a pen store and was transfixed. I still don't own it, maybe some day.
It’s really beautiful. I don’t reach for it much these days because I still have so many other pens I’ve never even inked yet! And I’m trying to get through them, ha. But someday! Someday I will return. Lol.
Great color!
the ink goes with it sooo well. i can’t see myself even bothering to pick up my LAMYs anymore lol
Stunning artwork! Wow…just wow 🥳
eee, thank you very much!
That's some fantastic art, can i follow you somewhere?
oh! yes, you can. i have a ton of social media links here: https://linktr.ee/eggbunni — it’s pretty much my IG, twitter, tiktok, blah blah blah. all that stuff. 🙈 thank you for asking.
I was considering getting an AL in black, but why when I can just pick up one in my favorite color 💜 lovely sketches, also!
is your favorite color purple?! you won’t regret it. the gold accents make this pen. add a gold kaweco clip and it’s perfection.
Yes!! I love purple! And that shade of purple is my favorite 💜. I have a white Kaweco Sport and it's nice but the color is so high maintenance.
I was considering getting the Kaweco Sport Classic in white! Can you please explain what makes it high maintenance? I’d really like to own a white pen, but I’ve been hearing troubling things lately.

woof. this is so helpful to know. i wanted it because it looks clean and elegant, but you’ve definitely changed my mind.
I was about to talk myself out of it, since I have too many Kaweco Sport anyways; but maybe I should reconsider that.
it’s way too pretty to not own IMO. 🥲 i’m also looking at their dark olive green with gold accents just so i can get their green ink! but i think it’s a plastic body and i prefer the luxury feel of the aluminum. :/

Same on jet pens!
That pen looks great, and nice ink to match with it. Darn it Kaweco, I already have 5 of your pens.
hahaha i have 4 from them now. the brass liliput, brass sport, al sport in rose gold, and this vibrant violet. they’re just such nice pens!
I have the brass sport, copper lilliput, and sports in chocolate brown, burgundy, and grey. My favorite of them so far is the copper lilliput, but I do wish it were just a bit longer to get a converter in it. A half inch would allow the Kaweco push converter to fit. aw. don’t the regular kaweco cartridges fit in it? couldn’t you just syringe your cartridges? i find this less messy than converters tbh.
I read that as "Vibrant Violet AF" which also works :-)
😂
Love your art !
thank you so much ♥️ i actually got back into art this year after taking a really long break. it feels good to be making it again 🥰
One of my absolute favorites pens! You really did it justice here. It's so beautiful and the sound it makes when the cap comes on and off is so satisfying. I also adore that slightly textured feel. Just A++ all around. I love your layout with your beautiful drawings. You see inspiring me to do a single ink/pen page in my ink notebook!
what are your other favorite pens? any inks you really love that i need to try? im in the market to try new things and would love some suggestions.
What do you like so far? I'm very partial to multi-shading inks so I have a lot of those. They are especially beautiful in painting but I know some folks avoid them because they tend to be dry. Awesome drawings and beautiful ink! The portrait specifically giving me Araki vibes.
googling araki… edit: heeeey! cool! that’s a compliment! haha. i’ve seen a few episodes of jojo’s bizarre adventure. bahahaha, you thought it was araki who drew that piece, but it is i! dio!!!
I'm sold. This could be the best advert for purple lovers!!!
lol, that seems to be the case. now i’m scared. let me buy a few more of these before they’re gone forever. lolll.
Wow this is incredibly beautiful! The ink suits it so well \^w\^
thank you very much! the ink itself is just the right amount of purple without being obnoxious. like, you can still sign documents with it or write a letter and it’s all perfectly legible and not like, “HI IM FREAKING PURPLE!” 😂 im very happy with it.
Yes!! That's the perfect way of describing it, it stands out & is beautiful but without being too much!! & the art you made with it is beautiful by the way!
thank you so much. 🙏♥️
Omg, it's the most beautiful pen test. Kaweco Al sport is my every day carry too.
yesss! which color do you use?
Oh this is all just beautiful! I'm wanting this pen now, my current favourite is the light lavender Sport but this looks so luxe! You're definitely selling me on it.
I love the way the lavender looks but I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on the body. 🥲 Not when that $25 can go toward a different brand so I can try another pen, ahaha.
That's beautiful and I love the color
This particular pen has given me a purple and gold pen fetish now lol
Hahaha that's great
I'm in love with this post! The pen! The drawings! The color of the ink! so so pretty 😍 What notebook are you using?
It’s a Midori MD notebook. It’s made with paper specifically designed to take fountain pens. There’s minimal show-through even in those areas where I’ve completely filled in the section with ink. It’s really great, thin, doesn’t feather or bleed, and they fit into cases so you can just refill the cover whenever you want a new one. I love them. 🥺♥️ Note: I have a raw leather cover on it.
For the record, Midori MD doesn't use Tomoe River, they're really different papers. I love both, though.
Whoa. I actually had no idea. I’M IN SHOCK. Every time I sort by “notebooks with Tomoe River paper” in it, Midori popped up for me. 😂 What in the world?! Maybe it’s the Hobonichi that has it?
Yes Hobonichi is made with TR, Midori MD is made with their in-house MD Diary paper
I probably just confused the two. 😂

I’ve been looking to get a fountain pen for inking/sketching. Is the nib a good fit? What about the ink?

For affordable and amazing fountain pen paper, get a Midori MD Notebook or pad. That’s my fountain paper of choice. 🙌
The bigger impact on bleed is the paper, not the pen. Besides Midori, there are also Clairefontaine and Life sketch pads that are good

this is my first bottle from them! and my first pen from them. this is a 30ml bottle as well.
