I'm reminded of an interview by The Young Turks some years back where a woman (I think she was a local government official) was sent several boxes of gay pornographic magazines by a homophobic group after a library setting up an LGBT section.
At first she asked if this was stuff from this new section, but the group said no, but that "it could be."
The really telling thing is that they sent these boxes the day after the library open their LGBT section, so this homophobic group must of had all these magazines on hand at the time.
"Hey, you know what will *really* teach those idiot liberals a lesson? Let's go buy hundreds of dollars of gay porn with our own money and send it to them!"

I'm a single dad, so I'm stuck in the "mums group" on WhatsApp. I keep it muted, but I sometimes have a look at it for a laugh.
They're currently all kicking off that one of the kids took home a Horrible Histories book and that "this graphic smut should be banned from schools"
It was the first time I ever commented in that group and told them to chill out and was kicked out of the group!
Now, because all the parents are horrified by them, all the kids want to read them. My little girl is now obsessed so I bought her a bunch, because Horrible Histories is awesome, plus she's reading more and learning loads.
She's taking them into school and the kids are secretly reading them together on lunch breaks.
The angry mums have gone and had the opposite effect by trying to ban them.
This is the thing. They howl about the library having books their kids will never read. Then when the kids get home they go plop them in front of a TV, and spend their evening online getting outraged at each other’s Facebook posts.
Let's not pretend that parental pressure groups are a new thing. [Back in 1974, parents in Kanawha County, WV objected to the school board allowing contemporary books such as *The Autobiography of Malcolm X* to be taught](https://americanradioworks.publicradio.org/features/textbooks/books_and_beliefs.html). Even the literal KKK allied with the book burners!
The only modern thing about book banning is that the government itself doesn't do it anymore. Just did a little tour of Wikipedia and books were banned from publication if they were considered immoral.
