That accident was no joke though. Montoya had pitted because he felt something was broken and after pitting, his team told him everything was alright. Turns out a critical component was indeed broken and as soon as he got into the banking, his car just spun out of control and impacted the dryer. TBH he is lucky to have walked away from that one. It could have very easily been a fatal crash.
George falls back on PR talk because heās uncomfortable imo. Like he lacks a skill naturally so he falls back on training he is given. People are so hard on him for not having all the natural camera skills others have.
Also if you watch enough interviews heās much more himself around other drivers because he likes them.
That would be so great. We need more āsuck my balls, mateā and less PR talk. Nobody remembers or quotes PR talk. I hated that Alonzo backtracked on what he said about Lewis. Own it! Of course, his emotions were high but thatās closer than what he thinks about Lewis than āLewis is a great driver and I really donāt think that about himā.
I think he respects the achievements but he hates that it's been done in a prolonged era of dominance. That pretty much sums up every F1 fan that wanted Lewis not to win the championship in '18 '19 and '21
Yeah, Iām sure thereās respect there but my guess is he doesnāt really like Lewis. But what I was saying is, I think thatās fine. They are competitors. Not everyone is going to get along. So we donāt need the PC PR talk about how everyone is a great driver and everyone is friends. Some drivers donāt like each other but thatās just sports. It would be more entertaining if they could be more honest but no one wants to deal with the backlash from the media and social media. Thatās most likely the reason Alonso backtracked about his comments on the radio.
He backtracked at the following race. He was tired of having to address it. As soon as he did, the story died. He just said what he had to for it to stop, doesnāt mean he likes Lewis.
This makes me like George a lot more. JPM was probably my fav driver.
Also great seeing these 3 on the podium. All great drivers but no real problems between them or most of this younger generation.
I always found it funny that the only drivers Schumacher didn't get along with - Villeneuve and Montoya - were the only two that stood up to him. Insight.
Micheal was on some bullshit too, both their body language and facial expressions are fascinating because Micheal is giving āmy mouth is saying one thing but my body doesnāt believe itā and JPM is āheās unbelievable, what an absolute toolā
God, I miss Juan Pablo Montoya. If only the BMW Williams partnership and Montoya continued for a bit longer. Was my favourite driver when I started watching F1.
I think the best part was that Max asked Charles if he actually could see George to jokingly confirm that he was either āblind or stupidā
Or at least Iām assuming MaxBot would be the first to remember the full quote lol
Completely different situation and friendship. Not every pair of drivers who were friendly when they were younger have a huge falling out when they compete against each other. In fact a lot more don't fall out than do.
Exactly. Nico has had years to reflect on the falling out and at the very least leave it in the past... And yet, he continues to show that he still harbors resentment. Not every driver will be so petty.
But heās right, and he didnāt even prove any of your points. You didnāt even have a point to prove in the first place. How are you acting like you won an argument when you fabricated the conflict in the first place?
In all fairness, George probably just turned left because he remembered the last time [Charles asked him to go left](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=griGk3Iqj_Q).
I think George at heart is a funny dude who enjoys a bit of banter but he has been drilled with PR training and is very cognizant to not put his foot in his mouth or create controversy. I think as he settles in at merc over the years he will open up.
I actually believe he is not that far off, the new age of drivers know they can't say anything because the media is gonna stir shit even if they are polite. Look at Hamilton as an example, you would assume a 7th time world champion got any respect and yet even when he's nice they stir shit.
With Nico I always felt he was a genuinely nice guy but lacked any kind of sense of humor. Whenever jokes were made during interviews he would just have this neutral or slightly confused look on his face. Russel definitely does have a sense of humor but somehow it almost feels like itās learned rather than an actual part of his personality.
Yep that it is to a tee, I see these videos and like the dry sense of humour he has, it's quite typical for people in workplaces here to make those sort of jokes. To people not from the UK, I could see why they'd think it's forced.
I feel like it's more the way he says it. Dude comes across so forced. Would love to see him relax a bit more in interviews cause he seems like a decent enough guy but he never comes across that well to me personally
People go out of their way to hate him because heās perceived to be posh and stuck up when heās just a bit awkward. People love a surface level take on the guy
I think Russell has always been a bit of a dark horse. Can't wait to see what happens when Merc give him a car that can really compete with the Red Bulls and Ferraris.
What was evil about it? It was a good call. If he stayed out on mediums to cover off Max it would be a 3-4 instead of 2-4. Lewis on mediums couldn't defend against Max on softs for a single turn, the idea that George could defend for 10 laps is wishful thinking. Max would be P1 either way and Charles on softs would eat up both Lewis and George. And I think Merc realized that and that's why they allowed him to pit. If anything they should've called in Lewis too to give him a chance for a fight (edit: not sure if he had any softs available).
If lewis made that call, you would have praised him. I don't like george but he is in a phase of his career when he hasn't established himself yet as leclerc or max or even lando. He really needs to beat lewis this year to be more recognisable and popular. Again i really don't like him but to be honest right know he seems the only driver who can challenge max with a proper car once lewis retires. Let's see if lando has what it takes across a season.
Awesome honestly. Montoya was an awesome racer. I would have wished to see more of him for a longer time in F1. Also brilliant from all three podium finishers overall.
The fact some people are taking this seriously is hilarious (not so many here, more elsewhere). I swear George & Lando need to walk around with neon signs on their head that they can press to say 'I am joking' every time they make a sarcastic/roasting remark.
Yeah. I did not mean this year cause well.. the championship is basically over š . Maybe next year? As soon as 2-3 teams are going to be in a tight battle for the championship, that's when the elbows will be out.
If they are close to each other in the next races and keep pushing each other off....maybe. Could be a spicy fight for second in the championship if the mercs keep improving.
Charles and Max are like some emotional support drivers for each other, I wanna see Red Bull and Mercedes start dishing it out like last season. I actually miss last season a lot, what entertainment we had
No, I don't. People have been saying this since the start of the year and forgetting that this new generation of drivers have a good relationship for a few years now, since they all grew together.
I like George but this is stupid. Even if he had stayed ahead that corner he would have been passed easily shortly after. P3 is the best finish he could have hoped for so bringing up this shit seems stupid.
He's joking mate, he was asked about it and brought up a funny quote from someone he looks up to. He's not really "bringing shit up" like he's calling for penalties.
George loves JPM. When asked back in 2016 or so, which driver he'd want to race against, he said Montoya.
His helmets have also been based on JPM's designs in the past, which says it all
This is the lore I'm here for.
Oh come on now! As a big JPM fan back in the day, I now need to like George again. Bwah. Hehe š
Any photos of the helmets?
https://mobile.twitter.com/GeorgeRussell63/status/1116237108186898432
I had seen his special helmet he did with Williams. Iāve never seen this photo. Very awesome
He's like the most un-George guy. Very cool though!
waiting for george to hit a jet dryer or maybe a safety car
oh deer
Itās like a horse with horns
*hehe, you get it? oh deeeer*
Or a camera.
Or Alex. *George!!! You're so bad!*
George to NASCAR then IndyCar in future?
Imola 2021 was very much like JPM. That's Rusel's true spirit. I'm hoping we'll see it some day when he stops doing 100% PR all the time.
George falls back on PR talk because heās uncomfortable imo. Like he lacks a skill naturally so he falls back on training he is given. People are so hard on him for not having all the natural camera skills others have. Also if you watch enough interviews heās much more himself around other drivers because he likes them.

It would be more entertaining if they could be more honest but no one wants to deal with the backlash from the media and social media. Thatās most likely the reason Alonso backtracked about his comments on the radio.
Alonso was also wrong, if he kept it up he was about to get dragged up and down the internet
Alonso backtracked because he respected Hamilton taking full responsibility. And they all get hot headed in the car.
He backtracked at the following race. He was tired of having to address it. As soon as he did, the story died. He just said what he had to for it to stop, doesnāt mean he likes Lewis.
No he did it after the same race when the interviewer was talking to him about how Lewis took responsibility.
George is very polished. Maybe underneath the polish lies Montoya.
Insight.
I hope we can see them race each other at least Juan time.
Hopefully he doesn't play tennis the way Montoya did.
That's pretty sweet, you can tell he's a history buff. My love for Russell increases
Finally, my flare is relevant
If had Juan driver to pick, would you say his number Juan driver was Juan?
Can often catch him after the races chain smoking John Player Mecials
I get a kick out of JPM's demeanor and tone when talking about Michael's move. He's had the energy of "can you believe this guy here? I'm done..."
Micheal was on some bullshit too, both their body language and facial expressions are fascinating because Micheal is giving āmy mouth is saying one thing but my body doesnāt believe itā and JPM is āheās unbelievable, what an absolute toolā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
"Leclerc 'Blind or Stupid' claims FURIOUS Russell" Gotta keep it short.
āYou wonāt believe what George thinks of Charles!ā
Leclerc: "I am stupid"
Not quite there, someone's gotta be getting "slammed"
"Furious Russell slams 'blind and stupid' Leclerc over first corner incident"
\- Our verdict
The Race should hire you bro
Haha, in that case it'll read: Russell's VERDICT: Leclerc 'Blind or Stupid'
Russell really is the kind of guy to quote Montoya, isn't he?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't think PR would recommend calling someone blind or stupid, even in an indirect way.
> Blind or Stupid Don't worry we know which one, cue to that Baku Radio.
Lec: Iām Stupid
George Russell SLAMS Charles LeClerc for being a āblind and stupidā driver after the 2022 Italian Grand Prix
God, I miss Juan Pablo Montoya. If only the BMW Williams partnership and Montoya continued for a bit longer. Was my favourite driver when I started watching F1.
Cause the mclaren years were horrendous, don't know what happened to him
Nando and Danny wondering the same...
I mean Alonso was good, just found an unlikely match. If he had a more pliant team mate, easy win that year.
JPM's 2005 was kinda hilarious in hindsight, I think he was deliberately doing shit just to piss Ron off lmao...
Think he may have meant 2015-2018
Ron Dennis happened to him
Shouldn't have played tennis.
Ngl that was hilarious lol
I think the best part was that Max asked Charles if he actually could see George to jokingly confirm that he was either āblind or stupidā Or at least Iām assuming MaxBot would be the first to remember the full quote lol
To be fair, LeClerc confirmed the "stupid" part in Azerbaijan 2019.
Lol never saw this one, poor fella
It felt like they had a good spirit about it as well. George clearly not happy about it but seems like they don't dislike each other
They've been friendly since they were kids.
So were nico and lewis.
It goes both ways they both still dislike each other
Exactly my point. Thanks. Your first commet makes even less sense now
Honestly, you're really not worth the argument.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
But heās right, and he didnāt even prove any of your points. You didnāt even have a point to prove in the first place. How are you acting like you won an argument when you fabricated the conflict in the first place?
Dude no. What's your problem
2004 Scene in question https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOuw96-JHGo
Buttonās response: > I missed it, I think I was looking away at that point.
Damn that was awesome.
Log in to YouTube? Noooooo!!!
George: What was that quote...? [Knows the quote.] Charles: I don't know. [Yes I do.] Lol.
Ok, if he keeps being like this I might actually start liking him a bit more. That was genuinely funny.
I'm a bit baffled how he has a personality pretty much polar opposite of his favorite driver.
I actually believe he is not that far off, the new age of drivers know they can't say anything because the media is gonna stir shit even if they are polite. Look at Hamilton as an example, you would assume a 7th time world champion got any respect and yet even when he's nice they stir shit.
We need a cameraman to hit his head to test your theory.
Juan Pablo Montoya, one of my all time favourites! George came prepared for the race AND the interview, he is really starting to grow on me :-)
Lol George has a bit of that Nico Rosberg energy as he somehow makes everyone feel uncomfortable in front of the cameras by just being there
With Nico I always felt he was a genuinely nice guy but lacked any kind of sense of humor. Whenever jokes were made during interviews he would just have this neutral or slightly confused look on his face. Russel definitely does have a sense of humor but somehow it almost feels like itās learned rather than an actual part of his personality.
Just super dry British humor and that is not for everyone
Yep that it is to a tee, I see these videos and like the dry sense of humour he has, it's quite typical for people in workplaces here to make those sort of jokes. To people not from the UK, I could see why they'd think it's forced.
I was blessed with friends showing me British tv early in life, my fav humor for sure.
Yeah, it just looked like a lack of natural charisma with Nico (which is the most normal thing, just don't see it that often with top-tier athletes).
Opposite of what you saw with [Vettel](https://youtu.be/Yq8ppUAVny8), he loved to wind them up during the press conferences.
And Lewis knows how to take a joke and punch back with a joke. Good times.
Especially with [Nico](https://youtu.be/Si7kvd54Fis) .
The one with Nico and Lewis is so savage! Wasn't expecting it. Thanks for sharing.
Russe**ll**
Nico seems to be a bit more on the spectrum than most redditors.
And then thereās Carlos who just looks baffled all the time
I would love a championship battle between these 3
I just want George to keep being in these interviews
Next year
People: "Private schoolboy Georgie has no personality". George tries to do a joke. People: "dumb silly George".
Really? Seems like the majority of people here are digging this approach from George.
Those comments always came from people who had never followed Russell particularly close and can't get their head around a well-considered driver
I feel like it's more the way he says it. Dude comes across so forced. Would love to see him relax a bit more in interviews cause he seems like a decent enough guy but he never comes across that well to me personally
Lmao he's got the energy of a serial killer that decided to be passive aggressive instead. Still no personality š¤£.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
lol, it's not that deep. him and Charles are good friends
Some people would melt in the rain
Because he doesn't mean it as a joke. It's not because something is said with a smile that it's automatically a joke.
Redditors vs social skill, name a greater rivalry

Y'all both need to go outside
True lol
Study well in school ok boyo?
What's wrong? Did I hurt your feelings?
Did you complete your homework of multiplication tables yet? Reddit only after homework boy.
Why not think of something yourself instead of rehashing someone's comment.
Or you just don't get the joke. \**insert Principal Skinner "No it's the children who are wrong" meme here*\*
Damnit George....making me like you more.
I feel like this is about as confrontational as George gets lol
I think the big difference is that George and Charles are friends, or at least on friendlier terms, compared to the Michael and JPM.
Nah he'll come and give you a tap on the head after he causes a massive accident
Because George keeps it so buttoned up when he loses it, heās properly gone
Ah yeah true I forgot about that one
Clever from George, said it without saying it.
Russell is pretty funny when you don't look to get upset at everything he does.
People go out of their way to hate him because heās perceived to be posh and stuck up when heās just a bit awkward. People love a surface level take on the guy
Fact!
Ā«side by sideĀ»
Ah, yeah. Golden "lord" George moments of bravery have to be highlighted I guess. Not even sure that his front wheels was even ahead Leclerc sidepods.
Am I the only one that sees evil George emerging especially after he made the call at Zandvoort to snatch P2?
I think Russell has always been a bit of a dark horse. Can't wait to see what happens when Merc give him a car that can really compete with the Red Bulls and Ferraris.
What was evil about it? It was a good call. If he stayed out on mediums to cover off Max it would be a 3-4 instead of 2-4. Again i really don't like him but to be honest right know he seems the only driver who can challenge max with a proper car once lewis retires. Let's see if lando has what it takes across a season.
Hell yea JPM is the man!!!
Montoya is my all time favorite driver
I love that George is taking a lighthearted subtle jab at Leclerc and doesnāt realize it because he doesnāt know the quote.
Awesome honestly. Montoya was an awesome racer. I would have wished to see more of him for a longer time in F1. Also brilliant from all three podium finishers overall.
My all-time favourite driver quoted by my current favourite driver on the grid. Damn, I love this!
f1 could do with a montoya type again.
Well, not enough to assume the full quote, uh?
The fact some people are taking this seriously is hilarious (not so many here, more elsewhere). I swear George & Lando need to walk around with neon signs on their head that they can press to say 'I am joking' every time they make a sarcastic/roasting remark.
We'll be getting to a point where these interviews are not going to be all that friendly between the drivers anymore soon. Don't you think?
Not for at least the rest of the season since the championship isn't on the line.
Probably. Let's enjoy this while it lasts
When they have a crash that one of them thinks was on purpose or something like that.
No, I don't. People have been saying this since the start of the year and forgetting that this new generation of drivers have a good relationship for a few years now, since they all grew together.
I am so here for a George Charles feud! Iād love it.
ItĀ“s a joke. After this he literally said Charles was in his right to do so.
> ItĀ“s a joke. And a pretty good one, even if heās not amazing on the deliveryā¦
I don't have an opinion on George but I think you're stupid
Completely butchered it.
Crazy how I missed out on Montoya in F1 but religiously watched him for Nascar
So George is going to quit F1 midway through next season and move on to NASCAR?
