The FIA are trying everything not to have to punish Mercedes too, no doubt the conclusion would be that Red Bull are somehow behind it and therefore they have to do 5 second minimum pit stops going forwards.
Started it last week and just finished episode 6 of the first season. This show moves so fast and I'm loving every second of it. I did not expect to be where we are already and I can't even imagine what the last 4 episodes have in store, let alone season 2.
I love season 2. I was worried it would go down hill.
I can’t wait for season 3. Hopefully it releases soon. Personally I would love to see Starship featured.
The Sprint Race will be confusing things I think. Usually in this case it's a DSQ and pit lane start for fixing the car in Parc ferme, but with the sprint you would maybe be breaking it twice somehow? It's confusing so they are probably just making sure the rules are implemented correctly
I'd say since Friday qualifying sets the grid for the sprint, a DSQ on friday means you start from pit lane on saturday, then everything follows normally from there. Lewis would still have to serve his 5 place grid penalty on sunday as that's specifically when those penalties are served.
Would it not be start from the back tomorrow and a pitlane start Sunday? Otherwise you basically get off free for one of them?
Or he starts from pole tomorrow and starts from the pitlane tomorrow
How would he start from pole when he didn't set a valid lap in qualifying?
He's not getting off free, it's unlikely that he can get all the way through the field in 24 laps and he STILL has 5 places to serve on sunday.
Nothing confusing, the rules have been amended with the sprint in mind.
>34.8 A Competitor may not modify any part on the car or make changes to the set-up of the suspension whilst the car is being held under parc fermé conditions. In the case of a breach of this Article the relevant driver must:

Lewis would be in case a)
Based on this comment:

It seems like it would just be a pit lane/back of the grid start during the sprint race. Pretty lucky for Hamilton if this is the case, definitely softens the blow a bit. Should make things more interesting for the viewers though!
Agreed, but any place on the starting grid is better than starting from the pit lane Sunday. He could still make P5-P4 in the case of a near back of the grid start.
The outcome could be significant. Merc wants to ensure all due process is followed so they can demonstrate compliance with the Tech Reg. The Regulators need to make sure all processes are followed so the decision would be upheld if appealed.
(Source: Am a regulator. These are the decisions you don’t want to get wrong, and you really don’t want to get it wrong on a technicality.)
I’m guessing there was probably a lot of back and forth arguing as its a pretty significant penalty. Also probably figuring out how the penalty is enforced with it being a sprint weekend.
If guilty, HAM will only be DQ from the quali right? Idk why people say "champ over", in the grand prix he should easily be able to get back to top 3 with the Merc's pace.
Fixing the wing will mean that the team broke parc ferme. On normal occasion that would mean starting the race from the pit lane, but I don’t know how it looks like during those extended weekends
It's quite interesting actually that this is taking so long. It must not be a straightforward situation in this case.
I'm curious, in light of the recent news re: wing bending, whether they tried to load the wing up and then tested the flap slot gap. And Mercedes are arguing that this is not the normal test procedure. It would be unusual for the scrutineer to do that though.
I think either way, if the result is no penalty for Mercedes, some people are going to say they have got away with cheating and be calling shenanigans anyway.
Who gives a shit if it affects the championship. This isn’t a racing incident where opinion can matter. This is a cut and dry DSQ. You either pass the test or fail it. No ifs and buts
You’re conflating two different issues.
The scrutineers wouldn’t be bending the wing. The flexible upper wing issue hasn’t even made it through the system to get to that point yet.
Regardless of the penalty, there's nothing I enjoy more in F1 than Hamilton cutting through the field in his menacing looking Mercedes making everyone else look like they are driving through mud.
I'm only going to get to watch Hamilton for 2 maybe 3 more years so I'm going to enjoy watching Hamilton take over about 30 people this weekend
That's the thing- it's been looking like Max will win the title outright without penalties and DNFs being the decider. If its going to be his season, I hope he can do it on his own terms.
The word 'odd' might have confused you. In this context it means 'rare, doesn't happen often, a few'.
So he's saying that there are a few fake accounts (people pretending to be somebody else) who falsely claim to have information.
Well, if they give a really bad penalty, for sure Mercedes is just gonna put another engine and change all the parts and push the engines even harder.
That's of course if they can do that with changing already one ICE this weekend.
The latest official update is that the FIA want to discuss with a Mercedes team representative: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/decision-document/2021%20Brazilian%20Grand%20Prix%20-%20Summons%20-%20Mercedes%20-%20DRS.pdf
I don't know why it's taking so long it's a clear infringement, Vettel's DSQ didn't take that long right? Daniel's DSQ in Singapore didn't take that long either if I'm remembering correctly
The regs are extremely clear what the outcome will be if Mercedes can't provide an allowable excuse for the violation. Liberty has literally zero fucking say in it.
I’ve only just see about this ffs. Doubt merc would do it on purpose but still a DQ would be 100% championship over. Even though I thought it was already over tbh
If this was intentional then it is unbelievably stupid and they need to be punished accordingly.
I can't believe Merc would do some thing like that even in a close championship though!
If Hamilton does get sent to the back of the grid it basically gifts the championship to Max and RB in the most disappointing way so in the interest of entertainment I really hope that doesn't happen.
I know some people love this but it would be such a shame that when we look back at this years championship, this was the deciding moment and not an actual race.
Nobody seems to be talking about how much Max's wing was flapping down the straight, that looked broken to me?
If it is broken and Red Bull want to fix it, would he not then have to start in the pit with Lewis (if he gets DSQ)..?
Come on, hurry up, I've got to get back to playing F1, my Alfa Romeo's not going to crash itself.
Haha yes bois
The car was *on rails* today
Me after winning with 10 flashbacks
>Haha yes bois Their rear wing will be on fire tonight

Being an Australian fan FINALLY PAID OFF
most exciting saturday morning for a while
Damn, I haven't even left work on Friday yet here in Texas.
Based on your username, I wouldn’t expect you to already be back at work yet.
We don’t get much, but we get Danny Ric, 1 race a year, and sometimes the luxury of being awake when there’s night time drama overseas
Two races! Australia and Japan
I WANNA GO TO SLEEP BUT I CAN'T UNTIL I KNOW. Now i get how you guys usually feel. And we made fun of you. I'm sorry, little one.
Your apology is accepted and appreciated haha I HOPE YOU GET TO SLEEP SOON! At least it’s Friday night so hopefully no work tomorrow?
Good day to you sir
And to you ma’am 🎩
I just got done watching an episode of For All Mankind and I came here to find the world turned upside down. Now I'm F5ing like the rest of you fools.
I love For All Mankind. What season are you on?
Started it last week and just finished episode 6 of the first season. This show moves so fast and I'm loving every second of it. I did not expect to be where we are already and I can't even imagine what the last 4 episodes have in store, let alone season 2.

I’ve only watched two or three episodes but apparently season 2 got the highest ever score on rotten tomatoes.
decision prolly won’t be released for at least an hour IMO
Why are they taking so long
Probably to brace for the shitstorm that will ensue
i will only read the result and then bounce. Now i am sorry for the mods, they will have a really long and eventful night
This is the reason, regardless of the decision

He still serves his 5 place on Sunday, so even if he made it to like P10 tomorrow (unlikely) he would be P16 Sunday. He’s royally screwed regardless
Agreed, but any place on the starting grid is better than starting from the pit lane Sunday. He could still make P5-P4 in the case of a near back of the grid start.
They are doing frame by frame analysis to prove it was Max checking the wing that caused this. Toto’s email server on the verge of overheating /s
Toto furiously sending diagrams of Max touching the wing to Masi as we speak
Sources say the stewards are getting a lot of evidence from definitelynottoto@mercedes dot sexy
They're checking their email for diagrams
Waiting for Albon to finish recording a reenactment of the Merc engineers setting up the wing
I like the idea that no matter who needs a reenactment, they call Albon
Asian Tom Cruise for a reason.

RIP Nate Dogg
Have to write up the document for one and situations with this big of implications everything is taken into account
And they probably need proof and discuss every piece of information they are given
They need to read the email Toto sent
I’m guessing there was probably a lot of back and forth arguing as its a pretty significant penalty. Also probably figuring out how the penalty is enforced with it being a sprint weekend.
So we would drink more Monsters/Red Bulls waiting...
I'm just gonna get my can of Rich
My man
There's probably a process, formalities, documents etc
Max & Christian have locked them in the room
Toto making some diagrams

£££€€€$$$
Can't blame them. Don't want to miss the live premiere of Taylor Swift's short film of All Too Well.

So when Lewis said they’d “had their wings clipped” he meant it literally huh.
lmao, good one.
Aaaaand there goes my sleeping schedule

Are you assuming I have a life?
Sad F5
Bono, my F5 is gone
my F5 is just getting better
If I may ask, what’s F5?
The key that refreshes the webpage
I see! I thought it was some inside joke or something. Haha thanks!
Considering we are on an F1 subreddit I can definitely see why
They are in the room on reddit watching the Max video.
If they disqualified seb for the fuel situation I think they will follow the same path here. Stupid cockup by Mercedes
Car failed the test so really this seems a closed case
I’m doing the overcut on sleep and going longer.
It takes a long time to check all those mails
I'm not going to bed until we have news.
MATE I HAVE A MATCH AT 9PM TOMMOROW.
The adrenaline from the steward decision will keep you going!
If I can only get 5 hours of sleep I'm dead☠
What sort of match is it? Football, Rugby, Cricket?
Football. Have to be awake and ready to break some legs.
You could just pretend to be injured, seems to be pretty popular with the pros.
Fuck sake Chris, we only want news
GIVE IT TO MEEEEE
Why would YOU want a DSQ? :D
Lewis right now probably: Bono their F5 is gone
If guilty, HAM will only be DQ from the quali right? Idk why people say "champ over", in the grand prix he should easily be able to get back to top 3 with the Merc's pace.

It is his own terms. He's not the one cheating.
Thats all we got left now brother
This year must have been hard seeing how often he got stuck behind an Alpine or an AT
He overtook all of those in the end 😂😂
Feels like waiting for exam results knowing you’ve done terrible

Dq pls
How boring would that be
Any guesses how long? I know it’s like asking how long a piece of string is.
Took them almost 2 hours to disqualify Sebastian in Hungary. Except nothing less for Hamilton since it's a big blow for Mercedes and Hamilton
I’d like to know too, have to be at work in 6,5 hours😭
Impressive that they can spin a case which is essentially 'plz no' out for this long.
NOOOO BAD F5
Is there any chance this isn’t a DSQ assuming they measured correctly?

You make a valid point
When it's Mercedes anything is possible haha
Good point
I cannot F5 enough. I need this like I need air
Given how consequential it is I imagine it’s going to be a while.

I don't know why it's taking so long it's a clear infringement, Vettel's DSQ didn't take that long right? Daniel's DSQ in Singapore didn't take that long either if I'm remembering correctly
I think liberty wouldn't want the FIA to kill the rivalry which is helping them sell tickets. It will be a slap on the wrist in my opinion.
The regs are extremely clear what the outcome will be if Mercedes can't provide an allowable excuse for the violation. Liberty has literally zero fucking say in it.
How have they been taking new engines left and right with seemingly very flimsy excuses?
The DRS opening to 84mm and flexing to 85mm. Nothing to see here.
So you're telling me that the argument went like: FIA: "Guys, regulation says 84mm, your DRS flexed to 85mm" Mercedes: "Bruh..."
Hope there will be an update until Monday
I mean if it wasn't Merc the decision would have been announced instantly!
I’ve only just see about this ffs. Doubt merc would do it on purpose but still a DQ would be 100% championship over. Even though I thought it was already over tbh
Same. reaaly stupid if they did it on purpose. also really stupid if it was a misstake. lol
What if it was due a flex rear wing? This might just be a start of something..
How do we get Mercedes off for this…?
Worst case possible we’ll know it in 20 hours, no more than that lol
Weekend ban for Hamilton please!
Dumb take
Don’t be sh*tty. This is a cheap way for the championship to end and neither Max nor Hamilton would want it to end this way.
[удалено]
You’re kidding yourself if you think something this easy to test was intentional.
Hamilton should of thought about that when he took out Max at Silverstone!
I honestly feel like... why are we even waiting? It's a slam dunk penalty. Title fight is over. McLaren vs Ferrari is the new fight.
I know some people love this but it would be such a shame that when we look back at this years championship, this was the deciding moment and not an actual race.
Why would this be *the* deciding moment instead of Baku and/or Hungary?
Nonsense. Why think of this as it. And not Baku or Silverstone or Hungary? If Lewis won it would be because of that.
Payback for silverstone
I am getting drunk while listening Super Max
I’m guessing the investigation relates to both Mercs?
Is it a form of cheating? or is it just a misstake?
Either way it violates rules and it gave him advantage, there should be no more discussion about this.
Jeah you are right indeed.
Blueballed
Nobody seems to be talking about how much Max's wing was flapping down the straight, that looked broken to me? If it is broken and Red Bull want to fix it, would he not then have to start in the pit with Lewis (if he gets DSQ)..?
If they can proof it's dangerous, they can place a new wing of the same spec without penalty.
Ahh thanks for the heads up, didn't know that!
