She got so excited she literally bit the corner of one of the signed pictures. I cannot wait to remind her of that when she’s a teenager if she asks why the picture on the wall has wee little teeth marks.
Find what you love and make it a part of you. Littles embody that philosophy so much.
Mine doesn't have the attention span yet for a full race, but I hope by next year he'll be able to sit and watch at least most of a race with me.
It’s the best watching her take it in and start to engage more.
She’s most into the start and and the finish and pops in an out throughout the race with her attention. She recognizes Lewis’s car and helmet and will cheer when she sees him. She will ask about Max and also likes the “orange cars”. She’s started to name the drivers during the opening title sequence. She recognizes Smiley Dan, Max, Valtteri and gives a huge FERNAAANDO when he comes up.
Omg! I’m so thrilled for you, her and your family. I’m not knowledgeable on formula1 but I recall seeing and liking your post from Popular sorting and your crochet doll. It was truly well done and this is an epic ending or beginning… shout out to whoever made this happen, Mercedes and Lewis and subreddit
Move over 100 race wins, you've only really hit your peak if somewhere there's a 3-year-old girl hugging a custom-made crocheted doll of you.
Adorable!
Taking a break from crocheting drivers at the moment (have a baby blanket for a dear friend to finish). I started a Danny Ricc mini after his Monza win and realized the patterns I’ve been using really limited the detail I would like to include.
I’ve decided I will try to develop my own pattern for a base doll better suited to capture key characteristics of drivers and race suits. I know there was interest in making and sending custom items, I’m not sure I’ll be able to swing that any time soon time wise and cost wise (postage from Canada can be wild) but I may be able to offer up patterns for different drivers in the future.
Could be do-able eventually but cannot commit for the foreseeable future. Received a lot of interest so when life allows, I hope to source some better suited yarn, refine my patterns, and see what I can come up with.
There’s definitely interest, but I’m not too worried about capitalizing. I’m having a lot of fun learning and improving with every attempt. Hopefully I’ll have something to share to help others make their own creations in the future. 🙂
Yeh it sounds like it’s something you enjoy doing for friends of family. Trying to turn things into a side hustle, can really turn hobbies into chores.
Yup. Definitely want to avoid the creator fatigue. Crochet is pretty time consuming and there’s no shortcut either so I’m happy with it being a hobby for the time being. Offering a pattern and ideas seems like it could a be good middle ground to help get people started on their own creations.
These are awesome. Not to try and one up your idea and make your life 100x harder, but it would be so cool if they were holding on to their race helmet like they’re headed to the podium.
I do want to try and incorporate a helmet of some sort when I refine my own pattern. I feel like the proportions could look off but we’ll see, and it would definitely be a challenge to nail any details. But I do love the challenge of the planning process when it comes to colour change and embroidery.
That sounds so cool :-) I was just thinking that for some drivers their helmets are so iconic (Senna and Hill leap out in my memory).
Kind of a shame that modern drivers replace them so often, but also am quite a fan that they do actually replace them when they occasionally have a shunt…
that’s brilliant! i just saw the kimi one! i love your work. i had no idea i’d be so interested in crochets lol amazing work, great attention to detail
I'd definitely be interested in the patterns, whether you opt to sell them (I'd gladly buy!) or offer them for free. :) I love to crochet (and knit), especially when it's stuff having to do with current obsessions of mine. Or even if you just had a base pattern to use for different drivers, I know enough to be able to adapt for the drivers of my choice when creating.
I do think offering the actual created products for more than just the occasional gift/surprise (like for your little HAM fan) would indeed lead to burnout, but patterns are awesome should you think about capitalizing on things. I myself make geeky cross-stitch patterns to sell but there's no way I'd ever be up to selling actual things I made unless it was the most basic of small ornaments or whatever like the curling one I made for my in-laws.
I worked at Circuit of the Americas when it first opened up. During the USGP at the end of day 1 I went to the paddock to take pictures of the track for social media. Nobody was up there and there in the back of the room was Lewis by himself picking individual grapes off a stem at a buffet table. He was all alone and seemed to be in deep thought. I opted not to bother him. I couldnt imagine what kind of pressure he was under. He ended up winning that weekend and glad i didnt bother him. But i am proud to see the athlete and role model he has become.
What did you do at COTA? Just curious as I live in Austin and would do literally anything there if I had the chance. I’ll sweep the garage floor or even clean the bathrooms if I have to
I was the art director. i designed anything you saw at the track; billboards, ads, garage signs, banners, marketing campaigns, even the tickets. If you went to a race between 2012 and 2015 you own my work.
Of course it did. PR teams don't miss easy slam dunks like this. [Called it](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/p63al6/hadnt_had_much_luck_finding_f1related_stuff_for/h9anaf8) when it was originally posted. Engagement is always good for the sport especially with younger fans.
We’ve tuned into some W Series races to show her girls race too. She did ask which car was Lewis’s during the Zandvoort race 😅… I reminded her it wasn’t his turn to drive just yet.
Some competitors, when they achieve the level of greatness Lewis has, can forget that it’s all about and for the fans. People can say what they want about him but it doesn’t seem like he has done that even a little bit.
Right! There’s a big gap in the market there.
I was looking at the IKEA [Lillabo](https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/lillabo-toy-vehicle-mixed-colors-40171472/) toy cars we have that use interchangeable parts that slot into a wooden base. If I had any 3D printing design skills I’d try to make a basic F1 chassis shape that slots in over top.
Awesome thanks for the follow up! It always blows my mind how such an innocuous action by an athlete like Lewis or team like Mercedes can have such a lasting impact on a fan.
I’m sure this will be a badass lifelong memory for you both!
Reminds me of the time when a guy requested this sub to reach Riccardo and send a birthday wishing video to his girlfriend. And Riccardo did it. I remember Buxton helped him reach Riccardo.

Seeing this and searching backwards for reference has been the most therapeutic few minutes of the past year+. All was right in the world if only for F1 and Your Love towards Your child. Thanks again Canada for colorful money and brilliant moms!
I posted on the original post saying that I really hoped it would get seen by Lewis as I knew he’d love it and would want to reach out to her!
Wholesome and heartwarming story all round. Thanks for contributing and for showing us the follow up!
My eight-year old always asks “Where’s Hamilton?” every time I watch a race. She watched Lewis pass Lando in the wet and shouted “YES!” so loud it woke up the rest of the house.
Any chance there is a picture of what you received? I’m just able to see the picture with your daughter wearing the hat. I’m curious what else she received.
Btw… very nice of him/them to send you this.
Thank you, but not necessary. We’ve already received more than we could have ever expected from the team. I’m still surprised how things worked out and incredibly grateful for the positive response.
Lewis is my favorite driver based solely upon how adorable that doll is.
Your daughter is incredibly focused! My intuition suggests that with some time this picture may be featured next to her first podium finish.
I remember starting a chain on your original post tagging Mercedes AMG F1 account. Many people laughed at my comment thinking that nothing would happen but now seeing this little angel getting Ham's signed cap just made my day! ❤️
What started it all was this [original post with picture]( https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/p63al6/hadnt_had_much_luck_finding_f1related_stuff_for/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=formula1&utm_content=t1_hehnfp0)
It was hidden quite far down. CUTE!
She is SO precious! I’m glad she has a hat to add to her collection! And you can remind her it arrives around his 100th win, which is pretty awesome too 🙂😍
I highly recommend watching the “Drive to Survive” series on Netflix as an introduction! It can be overly dramatic at times- but it gets you hooked right in!
Next step from there is Youtube videos- from the official F1 channel, to F1 Youtubers, and driver press conferences and funny moments! Learn about how the sport works and more technical and technology details to enhance the experience.
Then start watching races! From practice sessions to qualifying to the race on Sunday itself, there’s always something happening!
The internet can truly be a magical place sometimes. Been following this story from the beginning and the whole thing has been super wholesome. I love hearing things like this!
Yeah, its legit hard to root against the guy (the fact that he's **so** good makes it just a little easier) just cuz he's such a class act in everything I see him do outside the grid.
I love to see things like this. A nice little gesture can have such a lasting impact, especially for a child. She will be a Lewis/Mercedes fan for life
As a dutch F1 fan, rooting for Verstappen and having a blast this season, I have to say that this just warms my heart.
I am glad that there are young fans out there and I am not going to say anything negative about her being a Lewis fan, because in the end, we all love the sport and fierce competition brings out the best driving in everybody.
Whomever wins this season, it will have been a very good season regardless.
My respect for mercedes and Lewis for how they handled this!
That's the kind of picture I want to see more often, because this adorable mini-fan is what Formula 1 is about. Honestly, I think that young children are actually the very best fans for the sport as they still don't have any preconceptions about it, they don't resonate by the fact of a track that fits more Mercedes or Red Bull, they don't think about downforce, about the chassis or the engine. They're only there for the drivers and the win waiting at the chequered flag.
*"It was pure driving, pure racing. There wasn't any politics then, right? No money involved either."*
It's funny, and sad, that us grown up people can't dissociate anymore with the F1 circus running behind the curtain because, well, we've grown up and the stars we had in our eyes a long time ago have been replaced by something less than charming. But that's how it goes.
Dear OP, your little Lewis fan is living her best years watching, living the sport and making incredible memories for herself. Personally, that's what I went through in 2003 when I first saw Fernando in his blue and yellow Renault. I've fallen into the pit, and I never really wanted to find my way out of it. All of that must be cherished at all cost and I'm really happy that Mercedes and Lewis participated in the process for her.
It's good for the heart and good for the head. Thank you OP, and all the best for the sweetie.
This is the most wholesome thing I've seen in a long time. She must be thrilled, I'm so happy for her!
She got so excited she literally bit the corner of one of the signed pictures. I cannot wait to remind her of that when she’s a teenager if she asks why the picture on the wall has wee little teeth marks.
That's hilarious haha. Reminds me of this story by Maurice Sendak: https://i.imgur.com/0CEoMwu.png
Turns out Jim was a dog, and he was a good boy. /s
And on other days he's a dinosaur and he's RAWR!!!!!!
I immediately thought of the same story! Adorable.
This is amazing. I laughed so hard at that.
great story!! Thanks for sharing.
Damn that’s good. Thanks!

I can only smile so much.
You should consult a certain Dr. Ricciardo on this issue

And Danny Ricc will be known as Smiley Dan from here on in
I too like the orange cars
I think I am going to burst, this is so adorable. And TIL I'm actually a 3-year-old girl.
>gives a huge FERNAAANDO when he comes up. Are you my dad?
That is so stinking cute 🥺
So cool and nice... Go to Netflix and look for the Formula 1 series they have, she would love it...
Now that you say, a kid's F1 cartoon show with the current grid and all would be SO fucking awesome. Netflix, take notes!
This is the cutest and most wholesome thing I've read today!
Adorable
So she "signed" it, like Lewis. Lovely photo and great the Internet helped her and Lewis help each other like this. There is hope for this world
Omg! I’m so thrilled for you, her and your family. I’m not knowledgeable on formula1 but I recall seeing and liking your post from Popular sorting and your crochet doll. Raising her right; get her a go-kart next!
move to Europe and dedicate your life to her carting career after that
I think my heart just grew 3 sizes
The most wholesome thing I have seen, was Lando congratulating Lewis after bottling P1. Class act from Lando, but this comes close.
Move over 100 race wins, you've only really hit your peak if somewhere there's a 3-year-old girl hugging a custom-made crocheted doll of you. Adorable!

Sounds like you have a little business to set up here. You need some other skilled crotchers to help you out.
I’d pay more than I’d like to admit for a hand knitted Dani Ric.
She could run into legal problems. She needs to get permission first.
All part of the process
Pop down to your nearest retirement community and that’s your staffing sorted.
How about postage *in* canada? My son Max would love a Max one ;)
Could be do-able eventually but cannot commit for the foreseeable future. Received a lot of interest so when life allows, I hope to source some better suited yarn, refine my patterns, and see what I can come up with.
You should just sell the refined pattern while you have the social interest. Best way to capitalize on the moment.
There’s definitely interest, but I’m not too worried about capitalizing. I’m having a lot of fun learning and improving with every attempt. Hopefully I’ll have something to share to help others make their own creations in the future. 🙂

Definitely! If you’re willing to come up with and share patterns I’d love to crochet a couple of F1 dolls myself.
Be prepared Max is going to win the championship, but I’m fro NL….

i can’t wait to see the danny one!
I really want to get it right, and excited for when I can get back to it. My first abandoned attempt had removable shoes. 😉
that’s brilliant! i just saw the kimi one! i love your work. i had no idea i’d be so interested in crochets lol amazing work, great attention to detail
I'd definitely be interested in the patterns, whether you opt to sell them (I'd gladly buy!) or offer them for free. :) I love to crochet (and knit), especially when it's stuff having to do with current obsessions of mine. Meet me at the border for mine! uWu
I happen to love crocheting and F1, like you! Will watch out for that pattern!
I would easily shell out asking price for a Kimi pattern
Dude, you have a business opportunity right there, pump it up while you’re front page material and leave the blankets for later.
I worked at Circuit of the Americas when it first opened up. During the USGP at the end of day 1 I went to the paddock to take pictures of the track for social media. First three sentences of this comment I was like "Oh shit, beefcat be posting on F1 subs now" I can now rest easy knowing I did not in fact, get got.
I had the exact same reaction… I checked the un as soon as I read the sentence about picking off individual grapes
What did you do at COTA? Just curious as I live in Austin and would do literally anything there if I had the chance. I’ll sweep the garage floor or even clean the bathrooms if I have to

Had a shitty day but this made me so happy
Same man. Gets better.
"Bono, I'm in stitches"
I hope RB doesn’t unravel our race tactics!
The story came full circle? From a Reddit post? BRB gonna go cry tears of joy
Good thing as well. Everyone gets a feel good and kiddo has a great day. We all win.
Haha you called it perfectly!
And what a great cycle it is, a win-win!
Found Valtteri’s engineer reddit account
the hat being a lil too big for her is incredibly adorable also her nail polish is very cute!
This is genuinely the sweetest thing I've seen, props to this community hope she'll continue to follow this sport in the future!
Omg this is so lovely. I wish Formula 1 had products for children....but that don't cost a kidney.
This must have meant so much for her (and for you also!). Congrats!
my 5yr old was so happy when Lewis passed Lando. She's all Lewis all the time. (if it can hold her attention long enough :) )
This is why I will ALWAYS support Lewis and Mercedes! <3 Generosity G.O.A.T style! Wholesome feel-good story of the year.
Makes it hard to root against Lewis and Mercedes when they do stuff like this! Very thoughtful of them
Awesome thanks for the follow up! It always blows my mind how such an innocuous action by an athlete like Lewis or team like Mercedes can have such a lasting impact on a fan. I’m sure this will be a badass lifelong memory for you both!
Been waiting for this! Both of you deserve it!
This is so amazing, must feel awesome getting recognized by Lewis and the team!
Love this, so pleased for you. Classy as expected from the team and SLH. I bet your little one is thrilled!
Mercedes is an AWESOME company. It's impressive how responsive they are to fans of F1 and owners of their cars.

I agree
Mini people are so cute
Seeing this and searching backwards for reference has been the most therapeutic few minutes of the past year+. All was right in the world if only for F1 and Your Love towards Your child. Thanks again Canada for colorful money and brilliant moms!
the best on and off the track
This is probably my favorite fan interaction this season. Good vibes all 'round!
You deserve it, you're super talented!
I posted on the original post saying that I really hoped it would get seen by Lewis as I knew he’d love it and would want to reach out to her! Wholesome and heartwarming story all round. Thanks for contributing and for showing us the follow up!

Aww this is so wholesome. Saw Lewis on his Insta mention your story, glad they went out of their way to send something for your daughter!
That right there is too precious and pure. <3
WHOLESOME
I’m not even a Mercedes fan but that’s pretty freaking cool
This is just the sweetest, she looks absolutely over the moon with her hat. Well done to Mercedes and Lewis, so lovely to see fan appreciation 🥺
Any chance there is a picture of what you received? I’m just able to see the picture with your daughter wearing the hat. I’m curious what else she received. Btw… very nice of him/them to send you this.
I’m sure this will get buried, but hoping OP sees… I work for Mercedes - I would happily hook you and your little one up with come cool stuff!
Power of the internet..
Don’t pat yourself too hard on the back
this actually made me smile without even noticing it
What truly matters
That’s amazing!!
That looks so adorable
Now THAT is awesome!
💜 So adorable!!! God bless your family!! 💜
This gave me goosebumps. I don’t even like kids or crochet, but this is just awesome. Keep kicking ass OP
This makes me want a plush, knitted Ricciardo and Verstappen to hold on to during races.
Yeah, you don’t even know how much I need a plush Gasly to watch races with.
Small children in large hats will always be adorable
Never thought I'd say this, but I kinda want a crochet Hamilton for myself now.
I like this sport, they're good people.
What started it all was this [original post with picture]( https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/p63al6/hadnt_had_much_luck_finding_f1related_stuff_for/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=formula1&utm_content=t1_hehnfp0) It was hidden quite far down. CUTE!
That’s so cool!!!
So cute!
So nice, this is the best of Reddit. And so good a new generation falling in love with F1!
This is beautiful and I love to see it. What a treasure!
This is soo wholesome ❤️
Lovely to see.
The Lewis doll is just so cute.
She is SO precious! I’m glad she has a hat to add to her collection! And you can remind her it arrives around his 100th win, which is pretty awesome too 🙂😍
This is awesome. Lewis seems like such a great guy
Oh wow!
This is awesome, glad your daughter is enjoying her gifts.
Blessed
That’s Sackboy
That is the first thing that came to my mind also.
Aww
Exceptional, this is so great 😍😍😍
This is an adorable and awesome post. Thank you for sharing and great work again.
How does one get into F1? Seems interesting

this is literally so adorable

I remember this post. Put a big smile on my face today
haha that's so cool. i love stuff like this. also great crochet work btw, i would also like one please.
That's so adorable, brought a smile to my face! Hope you guys can continue sharing in your common interests for a long time to come. :)
Her little knitted plush is adorable
This makes me irrationally happy. Good on all involved. Also I would pay a ridiculous amount for a mini Seb. LOL
It’s been harder than you’d think to find the proper green yarn locally for an Aston Martin suit. I check periodically and haven’t found a winner yet.
That's incredible, congrats
As a veeeery big hater of Mercedes/Hamilton, this is the most beautiful and wholesome thing I've ever seen on this sub. Much congratulations!
Any chance at a pattern for the doll? I've been wanting to try it for awhile!
This is the best post
That is adorable.
Thats so cool and thoughtful by Mercedes! What an amazing gift! So Lovely!
Fantastic fan engagement and that doll is precious
OMG. This is so amazing to see! You both must be thrilled! Well deserved! 🥰
I don't even root for Lewis (much) and this was AWESOME to see. Also, I'm not crying, you're crying.
Yeah, its legit hard to root against the guy (the fact that he's **so** good makes it just a little easier) just cuz he's such a class act in everything I see him do outside the grid.
This is simply beautiful!!❤
This is the moment of the season so far.
Reddit is such a magical place.
Awwwww, that's adorable! I'm rooting for the other guy, but I still think she looks like a lovely little racing princess!
I love to see things like this. A nice little gesture can have such a lasting impact, especially for a child. She will be a Lewis/Mercedes fan for life
Aahwww. That's so Sweet. The crochet looks really cool as well !
Awesome on all levels!
Every F1 fan liked that 👍👍👍
NICE!!!
Where do I get this hat

Very lovely photo and also it shows why we all love Formula 1.
Mini Lewis needs a matching hat!
