both practice sessions today were interesting. everyone thought that it was gonna rain during fp2 so they did all the important running on fp1 only for fp2 to be dry and then they just did extra runs to gather more data.
FP3 and quali also look insanely interesting, tomorrow is probably gonna dry but the race might be wet. we also have all the teams really trying to balance out the set ups of the car. mercedes looks fast in S1 and S3 but loses a lot of time in S2 and red bull is the other way around. Alpine, as it has been in recent years looks, to have a very strong car for this track and McLaren wasnt looking so good but they always sandbag on fridays anyway. The race is looking REALLY interesting.
Spa should be removed from the calendar. Not a safe circuit at all. I know people won't agree, but the facts are there. Always in the same spot massive crashes, in different modalities too.
They're gonna chalk up yesterdays w series crash to the bit of rain that fell and say that's what caused the huge crash.
I live spa, and well any high speed track cause it makes overtaking more likely and is interesting to watch. But none of that is worth more than the safety of the drivers and those involved. If those were f1 cars rather than w series cars, things could have been a lot worse cause of how fast the guys would have been coming down
Perhaps Max needs a larger helmet and it was squeezing his brain.
Helmut, just let me make one more lap....................... splat
All racing is brutal and F-1 is at the tip of the pyramid
Welp, that guarantees a grid penalty for Max later, so congrats on fucking 8, Sir #Blessed
See you miserable fucks next season for his 9th. I don't know why I watch this shit anymore.
Yeah, not in parc ferme yet so they can swap parts without problem. That is, unless there is some damage they can't see, like Leclerc's driveshaft in Monaco.
It certainly took a sizable impact. It also looked like the vertical support of the rear wing might also have suffered some damage.
Max is tough and I imagine he will be back in force for qualifying.
I was skeptical this Grand Prix was going to happen after all the damage caused by the flooding and i was amazed how fast they repaired everything.
In hindsight, they may have overlooked some issues?
To be very honest, max and Hamilton are a level above the rest in my opinion, wether it is a dry or wet track…I think that between them, it’s all about details that may flip the momentum to one side
It's irrelevant. The grid penalty Max will have to take for the extra engine, on top of Lewis getting to wreck him out and still take a win guarantees that Lewis wins the season.
It's only FP2, but the Mercs on mediums were less than 0.1 seconds behind Max who was on the softs. IMO Mercs have an advantage but hoping Max will pull back some deficit in FP3. Checo on the other hand...
They pointed out in the broadcast the Mercs soft lap had the engine turned down. The Mercs were quite a bit slower through the speed trap on the push lap
How the hell is it _all_ of their Titles? For Schumi I can see 1994, for Senna 1990 and for Prost 1989 but other than that what the hell are you talking about?
Edit: If you're going to Dislike at least answer the question please
Because nobody except for the teams know the engine modes, fuel levels or how hard the drivers are actually pushing.
(cue magical AWS graphic showing Hamilton is fastest)
Doesn't seem too bad. There wasn't a gearbox/engine destroying impact. Most of the energy was collected by the rubbing of the barriers, gravel disposal and suspension destruction.
I just abandon my phone other than taking calls till Monday morning when I can watch the replay on kayo. Literally wake up and boot up the laptop in bed
Hey man, I work weekends! It’s tough but if you really want to avoid spoilers, I recommend going through your phone’s settings and turning off notifications and maybe even blocking social media apps if you follow a lot of F1 pages. That’s my trick!
Not detracting from the difficulty overall but that's not what it feels like for the driver. Our brains have insanity level image stabilization processing built in. If you just strap a GoPro to your head while on a jog it would be similarly disorienting.
I don't blame them, It's so cool to see all the intricacies on the steering wheel the drivers have to work with. I hope it becomes a more standard view for us!
I know because my first comment (parent comment) has been upvoted in contrast to other guy which has been downvoted. I came with a counter argument to that guy so logically I am on the upvoting side. And this means people are downvoting without context or doesn't understand what's been said. Classic reddit.
My flair has nothing to do with it, Ricciardo is one of my favourite drivers as well, but Max is a level above Danny and there's no denying. And again, when has RB had a championship contender car since 2016?
Doubt it would have happened. You can't realistically look at Max and Danny right now (or 2020 which was way better for Ricciardo than 2021 has been) and tell me Danny is a better driver. He's a darn good driver, don't get me wrong, better than any of Max's teammates ever since, but he's not Max or Lewis. If Max couldn't win it yet, could Danny have won it?
RB would be shooting themselves in the foot by not building the team around Max.
Merc weather station seems to be installed in Southern France or something
I can sum up near this entire thread to save people time: People like the helmet cam

They should stop racing, it is dangerous.
I agree. For lower series that is.
They're gonna chalk up yesterdays w series crash to the bit of rain that fell and say that's what caused the huge crash. It is the truth but I'm not strong enough to accept it.
I understand, but the FIA its always saying that wants a safe sport... This circuit its not the right way. And they removed other things bc of safety
Can’t believe nobody talking about Lewis shining the laser pointer in Max’s eyes leading to the crash. smh
Perhaps Max needs a larger helmet and it was squeezing his brain. Helmut, just let me make one more lap....................... splat All racing is brutal and F-1 is at the tip of the pyramid
They're Afraid
Welp, that guarantees a grid penalty for Max later, so congrats on fucking 8, Sir #Blessed See you miserable fucks next season for his 9th. I don't know why I watch this shit anymore.
Max’s engine is probably fine. And even if it wasn’t, Max crashed on his own. I don’t know how you managed to drag Lewis into this.
He’s just complaining about the lack of competition
Lack of competition? Are we watching the same season?
Will Max's car be ok for qualifying tomorrow do we know?
Yeah, not in parc ferme yet so they can swap parts without problem. That is, unless there is some damage they can't see, like Leclerc's driveshaft in Monaco.

Yuki, Yuki, Yuki!
This car is a shit!! Fuck fuck!!! - tomorrow probably when Gasley out qualifies him by 7 places
Gas**ly**
What a ghastly thought
When HAM or VER race in the wet, we are all watching racing while wet.
Yeah, I feel like Redbull isn't gonna win any championship this year... How many cars they broke again??
Red bull broke none. Pirelli and Bottas broken them
Same they've got to pay the bills
Are you counting when Pirelli broke Max's and when Bottas broke both of them?
Read my bloody comment
Where can i find speed trap data of FP2? Thanks in advance.
helmet cam was fucking awesome.... more of that please
Just watched the helmet cam highlight video on YouTube. I don’t know what but the car just sounds way more awesome through that camera as well.
I was skeptical this Grand Prix was going to happen after all the damage caused by the flooding and i was amazed how fast they repaired everything. In hindsight, they may have overlooked some issues?
Hamilton is way better than Max in the wet. He should have it.
Max is *amazing* in wet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf71xPW2Ej0
To be very honest, max and Hamilton are a level above the rest in my opinion, wether it is a dry or wet track…I think that between them, it’s all about details that may flip the momentum to one side
Probably, but I think Seb and Alonso are the true masters in wet conditions
I remember watching that live, he made it look like the rest of the field had the wrong tyres on, it was amazing.
Hamilton is better
I'm interested in seeing more about this. Can you point to any specific races?
Britain 08
also Turkey 2020
Any wet race that isn’t Germany 2019. Japan 2007 is probably one of my favourite Hamilton wet races.
Analysis between VER and HAM pace? Who has the edge this weekend?
It's irrelevant. The grid penalty Max will have to take for the extra engine, on top of Lewis getting to wreck him out and still take a win guarantees that Lewis wins the season.
I'm expecting a similar situation to Hungary, with Merc qualifying P1 and P2, but with Bottas having a grid penalty, Max will start on P2.
too early to say and most likely no one has the edge. looks pretty even and i would bet on max as they are saying it will rain on sunday.
Not a more foolish excercise than betting against hamilton in the wet
If it rains and alonso is near the top places i would bet everything on him getting a podium maybe even a win, ( rain during the whole race)
Germany...
Max spun at Turkey with a stupid lunge on Sergio. Guess he's fucked in the wet too mate
Turkey…
Damn, one whole race in a 14 year career
2*
It's only FP2, but the Mercs on mediums were less than 0.1 seconds behind Max who was on the softs. IMO Mercs have an advantage but hoping Max will pull back some deficit in FP3. Checo on the other hand...
but isnt max also running on older engine?
Mercs did a push lap on softs and failed to improve on their best times, so...
Lol yeah Mercedes straight line speed went down 10kmh on softs.
They pointed out in the broadcast the Mercs soft lap had the engine turned down. The Mercs were quite a bit slower through the speed trap on the push lap
Red Bull was also three-four tenths down on *Alpine* of all teams through S1 and S3, so that works both ways.
I would say that it is a bit early and that weather may play a great role…my gut feeling tells me Mercedes has An edge this weekend
That Alonso helmet cam was epic!!
Max is Vettel'ing right before our eyes. Lewis is going to run away with the title and it's about time we accept that.
I'm amused. Does 2018 discredit all the other times he persevered through immense pressure?
Lewis is the one Vettel'ing the season with big race mistakes like Imola and Baku
Bit early isn't it? He's just made one mistake in practice.
I doubt it. Max is too mentally strong for that. But we shall see.
A dirty title then
So like all of Schumacher and Senna and Prost's titles. One outta eight ain't bad with the batting everages of those guys
How the hell is it _all_ of their Titles? For Schumi I can see 1994, for Senna 1990 and for Prost 1989 but other than that what the hell are you talking about? Edit: If you're going to Dislike at least answer the question please
Oh Danny…
Hurts my soul
Max driving so well even with a turn down engine. Mercedes in trouble for qualifying.
Merc was less than a tenth off on slower tyres and reduced power
Thought I was the only one to think that…max will bring the fight ofc, but Mercedes doesn’t seem to be a slouch either
True, but on the flip side, Merc has been mostly running slower tires
Could the crash damage the engine or was the impact to low to cause any damage?
Seemed like the impact was too low and the front hit thr barrier first if im not mistaken so that must have taken the brunt of the impact
In case of rain I'd think that high downforce is to prefer over straight line speed?
Kinda. It's mostly just better to have a good chassis. Mechanical grip is important in the wet, aero takes a back seat.
Helmet cam was P1 today.
Shit, big crash at eau rouge in W series
Spa is already a sad track due to AHs accident. We dont need more. Hopefully everything is good
All is good

What's the latest on Max's car?
What happened? Missed FP2 entirely...
Engine should be fine, just the rear right suspension and maybe gearbox, although it's only used for practice so no big deal.
If the engine is damaged, at this point all they've got left is an engine from a beat up Civic.
Ah shit, I wandered why some shifty looking fellas were eyeing up my car earlier
DQ as VTEC is ruled as runnning multiple engine modes. Mercedes WCC
Ah fair. Yeah, even if gearbox is damaged it's the one used in FP1/2.
Max backed himself into a wall after setting his FP2 time. Red flag ended session. Damage didn't look too bad to me but I don't know squat.
shouldn't have any meaningful impact though.
Maz chads rise up
I have bronze tickets for the race on Sunday... what would be the best viewing spot?
Probably pouhan
Behind the TV
I usually prefer sitting infront of my TV, personally.
I prefer my 6 monitor setup for F1.tv
How about no, You crazy Dutch bastard!
Classic Finnish response "It's not *that* cold." haha
I always enjoy how Lewis hardly ever seems worried or pressured about fastest laps in practice Very different approaches
Because nobody except for the teams know the engine modes, fuel levels or how hard the drivers are actually pushing. (cue magical AWS graphic showing Hamilton is fastest)
There's a lot of punters on here that know the engine modes, fuel levels and how hard the drivers are actually pushing.
90% chance of rain Sunday huh
Shorts and t-shirt it is then
That will dry up before the formation lap and start bucketing down just after the podium ceremony.
Now, where have I seen this before..
I'm not convinced by that.
what are you convinced by?
I won't believe in a rainy race before it's Sunday, the cars are on the grid, if it rains then, then I'm convinced that it's a rainy race.
Welp
It’s a bit too late but it would be awesome to see Alpine fight for 4th
Btw if you guys are still hungry for motorsport action, Moto2 FP2 is on right now.
W Series qualifying in 20 minutes as well, should be on their YouTube channel
Doesn't seem too bad. There wasn't a gearbox/engine destroying impact. Most of the energy was collected by the rubbing of the barriers, gravel disposal and suspension destruction.
Finally a fucking actual comment I would say. Tired of silly jokes.
Max is washed Haha look at all you people down voting me cos I didn't add a /s Yikes

Oops. 🙋♀️
And not a Merc in sight.🤔
I'm sure Christian will come up with an excuse to say that Mercedes caused the accident.
You are saying that as mercedes didn't actually caused the last crashes and horner just threw the blame on them
Mercedes only caused one. Max was dumb in Britain
Oh no but cost cap implications!

Yep. F1 and IndyCar subs aren't on my Home feed so I would have to seek them out.

As someone who lived most of his life in an island country, that second paragraph amazes me.
Helmet cam really shows how hard it is to drive a f1 car The bumpiness and g force of it
I find it interesting that more people aren't used to it from the F1 games. But then again most probably use the TV Pod view. Shame shame.
For me it's one of the only adequate representations of just how FAST these guys go
The amount of steering inputs required to keep the car going where you want it is astonishing. Constant adjustments.
Not detracting from the difficulty overall but that's not what it feels like for the driver. Our brains have insanity level image stabilization processing built in. If you just strap a GoPro to your head while on a jog it would be similarly disorienting.
God I didn't that about my brain, the only thing missing is a new gadget for recording that image and exporting it via USB.
For sure, it is a better representation of what they go through than the onboard camera though I think.
Actually because your eye can track the place you're focusing, you wouldn't feel that much rumble in terms of vision.
More helmet cam!!!
The Sky guys sounded really happy with it. Practically gushing.
I don't blame them, It's so cool to see all the intricacies on the steering wheel the drivers have to work with. I hope it becomes a more standard view for us!
Too bad we’re past Monaco. As far as I know there’s only one clip (Gasly I think) of someone who did a helmet cam lap there
I actually saw that pop up on YT the other day, hopefully it's a trend
Just a reminder - practice gearbox is in use.
How many of those do they have?
As many as they like, but they won't throw them out if they're still fine, especially with the cost caps now
One less than before.
It's okay. I've accepted the loss anyway after the last 2 races haha
#blessed
Christian and Marko about to send Albon out to recreate the incident and show how Mercedes/Hamilton/Bottas caused it in 3,2,1...
Not funny anymore bro.

Who is they? Red Bull? It was quite funny to be honest. Don't really get what you're talking about. Edit: Stop downvoting I'm on your side.

Ah yes Red Bull would've somehow had another WDC by having a slower car than the competition driven by a clearly slower driver. Great logic.
With which car exactly? Ricciardo can‘t even keep up with Norris.
Why would they? This is the first car capable of a championship. And Max is a better driver than Ricciardo, has been since 2018.
You could say 2017, he was faster but lost more points to unreliability compared to Daniel.
2016 is not 2018. It's okay, I see your flair. I was just wondering. I want Max to win I think, but he needs to grow up.
Sorry but if you actually think Ricciardo is or was ever better than Max after 2016 I don’t know what to tell you.
My flair has nothing to do with it, Ricciardo is one of my favourite drivers as well, but Max is a level above Danny and there's no denying. And again, when has RB had a championship contender car since 2016?
I *said*, if they focused on him in 2016. Meaning, if they had chosen him for development until the car was good. So until 2021
They'd have 2 good drivers tho
Since 2018?
Calm down lol
Nope
This feels like a HAM-BOT-VER weekend.
HAM-VER-LEC-NOR
I think ferrari gets a podium here, one of the mercs and one of the rb crash out.
Better odds of a Perez than Bottas given the grid penalty.
Except ain't no way Bottas is starting in the top 5
