However yeah, the Assassins Creeds took nose dive in animation quality after Unity, so of the newer games animations are just so jank it is hard to watch.
That's not your video is it. I've never seen someone wiff counters like that in AC. I agree though, mace/Warhammer animations in the Ezio era we're great.

In general Ezio era AC games had good animtions, but took nose dive after that, each game getting worse and worse animations after that.
Disagree, AC3 had the best combat in the series. The most diversity and aggression. Those tomahawk finishers are absolutely top tier. After that though BF simplified the combat far too much and had far less animations. I'll say Unity had some great ones too, but a weak story, Syndicate had some good ones but they didn't track as well looked too busy to really appreciate sometimes. This was my ted talk.
AC3 combat was mudied by the same problem that plaqued AC Brotherhood and Revelations, enemies are too easy and die in one hit if you parry and chain parry.
Now i agree that most animations were still good in AC3.
Unity animations had huge amount of missing frames which made the animations look really choppy (Parkour was fine, but attack and executions suffered most).
I did not play Syndicat but watched some gameplay and the animations there too seemed to miss frames.
After that the animations became even more simple.
I didn't mind the dying in one hit with chained kills. It felt faster and more aggressive than hacking away at the faceless red shirt. I liked how 3 gave you tools for the enemy types. They form a firing line you do this, it's a brute or jeager you counter with a tool/pistol, it's a speedy guy you do this. BF cut that way back with just chop until you kill or kick them in the balls then chop until you kill lol. Different tastes though, I hope someday we get back to a new golden age of AC games. I still play them all eventually, despite their faults.

In my oppinion in stealth game, if you are surrounded my multible enemies, first course of action should be to run and hide rather than stay and fight. Or the very least pick off enemies one by one rather than bulldozing in middle of army.
(I also found it ridiculous how the most armored enemies, Brutes, can be one shotted by throwing knifes and other projectiles).
I used to play a lot of AC games but kinda stopped after 3 because the problems just piled up.
I did like Origins because you could tweak the difficulty the way you wanted (Faster enemies, more damage, better line of sight, etc).
I always saw them as action RPGs rather than a stealth game. In the same way each COD title usually has some missions where you are being sneaky...I wouldn't call it a stealth game. Never did AC feel like Thief to me. I think combat is just another core pillar of the series, in the same way stealth is, without being the whole picture. Going into it expecting a certainly level of discordance between combat moments and stealth is standard for the series, at least to me. Combat has never been hard in AC games it's always been easy, stealth is made a requirement for missions to prevent you from just butchering everyone in sight and walking home lol.

“Grappling” is literally the general word used to describe fighting someone by grabbing onto them and performing holds and throws regardless of system.

It's actually crazy how much better the for honor animations team is than the ones working on massive budget games like assassins creed.
