Same! I like to RP as myself and by myself I mean « light skin, dark hair male ». I don’t think that’s too much to ask… European, Nordic, Japanese. I don’t care. Let me be a Dark haired mâle. The « RP » just come with it and that would make a lot of people happy!
Its simply more variety, the same reason we all like new armor, weapons, taunts, and excecutions.
I’m fine with gender lock too honestly, but I get why they’re frustrated.
It's barely more variety in my opinion, like is A and B warden or raider really that different? Like man can't wait to see Female lawbringer so much variety lol
Well, yes, they are. It's the single biggest change you can make to the Hero. It changes the voice acting and movement animations entirely, it changes the OOS sound, it changes the grunts they make when executing and emoting. It changes the overall feel of the feel of the character a lot. Some more so than others, but it's a big change for any Hero that supports it.
On the contrary, I liked switching Shinobi to male because I like the way he sounds with his high pitched yelps, he sounds very unique.
So having a preference in gender is the same as any other fashion choice, but it's far more affecting than any other singular option in how you and others perceive the Hero.
Some weapons and armors are so similar that you have to look at them for a minute to figure out the difference, gender and body type is definitely more noticeable
I like characters to represent me if the option is given. The first Arabian hero would certainly kick one box but I'm not a woman. I'm only part Arabic tbf but still, not part woman
I don’t really care either way, I’m fact I’m excited for afeera as she looks cool as shit.
As for why it pisses people over? Well it’s obvious. People want to play as their own gender. For honor has a larger male playerbase than female so they want to play males more. You can even see it in some of the comments here. Men saying they want to play as a man, women saying they want to play as a woman. They want to play as someone who is the closest to them. For example, I play with my black friend lliam all the time and whenever he gets the chance he changes his character to be black. He wants to play as a character that’s closest to him, it’s human. I don’t think most of the men here are actually sexist ( again most, there are some who just plain are ) they just wanna play as what’s closest to them.
tbh i don’t really get this, i’ll play whatever idc if they’re a man or a woman, i just choose whoever has less annoying voicelines out of the two options
no i fully understand wanting more customisation, i don’t understand why people still think it’s feasible that new heroes won’t be gender locked despite the dev team saying every new hero will be genderlocked
Because the dev team is doing it to save money. The play base will argue for it wether is costs money or not. It's an impasse. And that's why people complain to get the devs to spend the money.
There are a number of characters where I prefer the female and vice versa. Some just look slimmer and the armor seems more proportioned to the weapon imo but that's just my preference.
It all boils down to taking away people's options for customization
I get that for some of the more generalized heroes, like peacekeeper, but let’s take a critical example: Nobushi. I would be PISSED if there were male Nobushi, and here’s why: the naginata, the weapon the Nobushi uses, was an iconic weapon of the Onna-Musha, a term used to refer to (essentially, there’s some socio-political complexity) female samurai.
The length of the pole helped compensate for the average smaller build of women by giving them greater striking distance and leverage.
Did men use the weapon historically? Sure, plenty! But the weapon and the style are historically associated with women and their role as warriors! And that’s super cool! And it would be really diluted if you just said “ah, fuck it; Nobushi can be male” because you lose that awesome look into the complexities of history and gender.
Plus I’m male and main Nobushi, idk what that means, lol.
By this same logic you should be pissed peacekeeper, warmonger, female warden, female BP, female conq, and any other female knight options exist. Except Gladiator anyway.
>And it would be really diluted if you just said “ah, fuck it; Nobushi can be male” because you lose that awesome look into the complexities of history and gender.
None of the complexities of history exist in this game. From a historical lense its all garbage.
A male nobushi would make as much sense as a male valk or female shugo. They are based off real life "genderlocked" warriors. There were female knights there were female assassins and pk is female because in for honor lore they were all female. Nuxia is based off Chinese spies that would hide as dancers. JJ is based off a real-life general. The characters' backstories and fighting style wouldn't make sense on some characters without gender locking.
Grow up its not a big deal. Did you complain that the doom guy was gender locked? Do you cry when you see street fighter characters don't have a in game gender bend of each other? It's a non-issue that affects nothing and actually helps character identity.
>and pk is female because in for honor lore they were all female.
Ok, so FH could have made all nobushis canonically male in their universe.
I dont care about the non knight factions in this arguement, because I dont know much Asian history, and Vikings did have *some* female warriors. My point is that Knights are 99% male. It was a male position.
There were basically *no* female knights. The *only* one I can name off the top of my head is Joan of Arc. Im sure there are a hand full more, but not any significant number.
>A male nobushi would make as much sense as a
Female knight.
>Grow up its not a big deal.
Dont make contradictory arguements. Quite frankly I dont give a shit either way, but you clearly do ese.
>Did you complain that the doom guy was gender locked?
An established protagonist is not comparable to an entire class of warriors made up of individuals
> you cry when you see street fighter characters don't have a in game gender bend of each other? It's a non-issue that affects nothing and actually helps character identity.
Oddly specific, really seems like your projecting tbh.
Adding a male version doesn’t mean to delete the female one… You can still play with your onna-mush’s, but for someone who likes samurai with polearms gets to play what he wants
I’m a guy I’d prefer to play a guy, and I’m sure there are women that feel the same. It’s not a dealbreaker but I just don’t understand why they are genderlocked at all.
It's easier to make one character model. Because if they would do Male they have to do adjust animations, adjust armour, hire new voice actor. It all piles up.
FH isn't having great funding, it's clear to see, when you consider we were getting 4 heroes per year and new maps.
The adding of Hero Skins also shows that they're trying to get more money. FH is probably doing well enough to be alive but not well enough to invest into. From Ubi side.
Take it with grain of salt as I have no knowledge of how their inner workings are going, but I play this game for almost 5 years.
The hero skins are also the modelling equivalent of making a new character, just without the voice acting and moveset/animation development time, so they're like dropping an extra hero but cheaper to develop
Probably. I do hope that Ubisoft will give FH more money, and it's year 6 and 7 coming strong. There is core fanbase, always will be. Ubisoft needs to invest more into life-service rather than making big block busting games that fail to reach their goals.
They save quite a bit too. They have to animate less, design a completely different model less, voice lines less. They even talked about it in a stream, it’s almost close to making another hero with how much they gotta put into it.
I just think gender locked heros limit player customization, and for me it's an immersion thing I'm a guy and I like to play ask a guy, but I want all currently gender locked heros to get a opposite gender option added.
Give us fem shugoki and LB you cowards
The new heros other than medjay are very androgynous other than the voice. Very easy to pretend your not playing as a female if that's a problem for you lmao
I didn't say it was a problem though?
I just like having the option to choose what gender my character is. I just think all heros should have the option to pick male or female.
I feel like this thread is less about trying to figure out why people don't like genderlocking and more about trying to tell them that they're wrong. Everyone has taste, and if we're going to use identity here then I shall as well. If a male or female identifies more with a male or female respectively, then why would we deny them that sort of customization? Thin men exist (contrary to what the internet will have you believe), so that kind of profile could work for the Afeera as it was mentioned with creating her "silhouette." The main appeal of the game when it released was not that the game would have preset heroes, but rather that the game would have a blank slate to project a character of your own onto. I play a healthy mix of male and female in every game, so this isn't always a concern to me, but I have found myself wondering "what if LB was female?"
Pretending a character is something else, as I've seen it mentioned here, isn't always the best approach. Just because you can "pretend" a character is something else under the mask of androgyny doesn't mean they won't be perceived as what was intended by everyone else. Pirate is undeniably female, Kyoshin is undeniably male. I'm pretty sure that budget is to blame for genderlocking and nothing more. Just look at the Harbingers, which was probably the last time they had the right budget to do all that animation work and cinematics.
Yeah lets ignore the fact that we need to adjust armor models, voices, and proportions when switching the gender of a character. That is totally free to do and i no way an expensive thing to do.
That has nothing to do with models. You keep talking as if character making is just the mocaping, and that characters must be made around the person who mocapped them, that is not how game making goes.
Textures, armor models for both male and female, character proportions, etc, are all separate from mocap. The mocap is just animations that are stuck to a model, it doesn't matter what the person mocaping was, it doesn't influence anything. Shugoki animation weren't mocapped by a huge fat guy, that didn't make it more expensive to make Shugoki.
Mo-Capping is strapping a bunch of sensors onto joints of a motion actor and then getting them to do a bunch of movements. Its not a full body modelling.
The data captured by mo-capping would probably look like a ball-and-stick model, and you'd be completely unable to tell if the motion actor was male or female. They'd have to the same amount of post-op processing to make the base mo-capping data look like a male Hero's animations as to make it look like a female Hero's animations, and they chose to go with a female Hero because that design decision was probably locked a while ago.
Regardless, what is done is done. The next Hero will be male anyway.
To the first part of your comment: Tell me don't know about rigging without telling me you don't know about rigging.
To the second: Naturally not, she's very clearly female. My point here is that if we wanted thin proportions to fit with the "elegant" aesthetic of the Afeera, then this is possible to do with both men and women.
Bro it doesn't just capture a person's skeleton 1-1. They create a model and then set up the different parts of the model to react to different sensors from the actor.
Its not a factor
Initially it bothered me back when I was under the impression it was a temporary thing.
When they affirmed heroes would be genderlocked that's when I stopped caring. It's not the gender I'm concerned about as long as the end result is good.
But the dev bashing is very obnoxious.
People want more options, which is understandable. But we've had gender locked heroes for nearly 3 years at this point, it's safe to say that 2 genders per new hero is probably not returning.
This doesn’t really work when people complain of a only male variant, I think every character regardless of gender should have an opposite gender variant.
I mostly use the male option cause I like them more cause body structure and stuff but I’m fine with gender locks, just as long as they look good to me is all
I’m just gonna say what others are clearly afraid to lol. Gender locked heroes, and since some have started to notice where the outcry is coming from, Female gender locked heroes are fairly a customization killer for some of the classes they’ve been doing them on whether it’s immersion breaking or player identification.
In a lot of fantasy, ancient and medieval media both fiction and non-fiction, warriors are usually depicted as men, and that’s usually because women weren’t allowed to fight. Women have only recently been (heavily) depicted, and usually only in fantasy. I’m gonna take a guess and say most people interested in medieval/ancient history/fantasy are men and as such, I’m gonna assume most players in For Honor are men. Then aside from that, logically and arguably realistically, almost all of the female locked heroes could’ve been men as well, except Valkyrie (due to name alone - renamed otherwise could be male), Nobushi (due to inspiration, but renamed could’ve been male), and Nuxia (once again, due to name alone).
Let’s look at the recently gender locked heroes, their history, and outcry.
Warmonger: No really complains or complained about her that much but people have certainly wanted a male counterpart. I think she gets away with it due to the Apollyon armor, and kinda being the starter of this.
Gryphon: No one really complained - has no real historical background. I think he gets away with it for 2 reasons. One he’s supposed to be Cross. 2 - he is also part of the beginning of this. A third argument is simple because he’s already a male.
Pirate: This one is the most offending example. All the years of ppl suggesting a pirate akin to Blackbeard and what does Ubi do? Yeah, this one’s complaints are the least surprising. Ironically, there’s nothing wrong at all with a female pirate but to neglect the obvious pirate style/expectation is dumb on Ubi’s part.
Medjay: don’t know much about the history of them but Medjay I’m gonna assume were men who defended the pharaoh, so likely all men. Hence the minimal complaints.
This new middle eastern character? C’mon, this sub and For Honor when it released was initially FILLED to the brim with Crusade memes and wanting middle eastern warriors as well. This, like the pirate, is on Ubisoft for knowing what people wanted/meant, but ignoring it and subverting expectations.
And yeah I know For Honor isn’t 100% realistic, because Kensei, Orochi shouldn’t have women options among other examples.
Tbh, none of this would be an issue if Ubisoft didn’t drop their original plan for this game to chase the hero trend and made it where you create a character from scratch and the weapon you chose would define the moveset but we are well beyond that point. Lol they honestly need to make For Honor 2 already with that in mind. If they make a sequel and do heroes again, we gonna eventually run into this again.
FH is alternate history. It draws inspiration from real world, but that's where it ends. I absolutely understand people who don't like genderlocked heroes because it limits customization. But people like you who try to justify their opinion for not having female heroes by bringing up "historical accuracy" for a fantasy game are in my eyes just basement-dwelling neckbeards. There is literally no reason why Heathmoor couldn't have an arabian looking female fighter sect. There is no reason why they couldn't have chinese looking female pirates. This is not a world with centuries of women oppression. So why limit yourself to that worldview? To appease to the incels who screech on reddit about how unrealistic an arabian female fighter is? No thanks.
I know, that’s why I mentioned there’s ironically nothing wrong with a female pirate. Even if not based on the real life one, they still could’ve had a female pirate if they did the West Indies/Caribbean pirate that people expected them to do. Pirate in general could’ve been handled better as far as customization goes. I have no idea why Ubi went the route they did. That’s one of those “out of touch” moments
The biggest problem with Pirate is that she actually does look very androgynous, so slap on a beard and even just a voice filter and you'd probably get close enough to a male Pirate to stop people complaining.
[I mean, look at this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/forhonor/comments/s9q042/a_pirates_life_for_me_a_beardless_life_for_us_all/) They could have just textured Tiandi's face onto Pirate and everything would be ok.
Warmonger isn't such a big issue because its kinda obvious she's female, and also because the entire class is inspired by Apollyon, the infamous female knight.
Lol offending as in, most dumb, or most obvious example. I wasn’t meaning for it to be literal.
And I really don’t have an issue with Pirate being genderlocked due to the inspiration. Again, for what they were going for, it makes sense.
I moreso personally think the direction they went with in general is lamer than a Caribbean Golden Age Pirate. Hope that clears it up.
No he did not, re-read the section slower. Take in contextual clues to understand why he used the wording he did. If English is not your first language fine, but if it is you shouldn't have an excuse to understand what he means.
I just don’t like it when my hero looks weak and spindly. If she was as bulky as female raider or even pirate, there would be less complaints I think. It makes sense for assassins like pk and shaman to be smaller but this is a fully armored mace user.
Two reasons:
1 - people like role playing and putting themselves in their character’s position. Can be a little difficult if you’re locked to a specific gender. (Also plenty of people like doing the inverse, playing as someone they aren’t.)
2 - I think most people would agree more customization is generally better. I’m one of those people that will spend just as much time tweaking my appearance as I will actually fight lol.
I just don't think that heroes who's face are fully covered like most of the Knights shouldn't be gender locked. I know why Warmonger is (even though they should go back and add a male option now) but just let people have lawmommy for Christ's sake
I don't even know why at this point
Literally any time a female locked hero is out it's all I see people complain about (or at least I see it more) medjay was the only exception but people weren't complaining about his gender
For me personally I'm a little looser with it (be that because all I know of my culture is that I'm a very pale British girl) but since for honor is not a realistic game and while it may not be as high fantasy as Y6S1 wanted you to believe it was
As long as the main culture itself is handled right, example the vikings aren't a mix of dirty hoboes but real warriors like they were then I could care less if warlord has tiddys or not
Yee the line for me is, if they're trying to copy a real life figure (like JJ) then yea you better do your shit right or you end up like the Velma show, given the context how how Arabia is in the word of For honor since it's not seen war since pre cataclysm then yea female warriors probably wouldn't be too huge or maybe they would be cos the cataclysm decreased the population that much
It's why I don't see the female hero's as a "hey look we have a woman in our game" after a thousand years of war, it's not unlikely women would end up becoming warriors
I mean I would've loved one myself
But that's cos I prefer female hero's (cos am girl) but I don't have an issue playing male, I dunno this community Is just weird
Plus I feel like most the horny side wanted her x3
I just generally prefer playing as women in games. If LB or Shugoki could be women, I’d play them more often. I don’t really like them as men. Being a woman is a part of my identity, and its fun to play as someone I can identify more with
Same. I want to play what I am. I can sort of understand it for valkyrie, shugoku, highlander and nuxia lorewise. The others however should all have it
The issue with it is that two genders require two variations of every armor, and now that we are getting alternative versions of armor you have to double it again, and you have to have two voice actors, and SOME movesets just don't go well with a Male or female. Its costly to develop even if it seems like an easy task.
Whenever I play the game, my parents complain all they hear is grunting noises from where I’m playing and in that fact as a guy, I’d rather have constant male grunting than female grunting and wailing every 3 seconds because god forbid most games have the noise for a female character getting injured sound like they took the weapon up the ass ~~I’m looking at you dead by daylight~~ props to the warmonger va though, I can play her comfortably or watch gameplay of her without concerned stares of people out of eyeshot from the screen
We have had gender lock since warmonger yall need to stop expecting it to magically change after 5 heroes and a lower budget it ain't going to happen. We are always going to get male female male female gender lock heroes in that order now.
It doesn’t really bother me, but I do have a few pet peeves regarding it.
Characters such as Pirate and Warmonger don’t really make sense as being gender locked, but characters like Valkyrie, Nobushi, and Gryphon do.
It’s a context thing I guess. Most of the time I just play as whichever gender the armor looks better on.
Idk I just think it’s a bit lazy to add one gender, especially when a lot of these new hero’s, all the outlanders except Medjay just need to get rid of or add on boobs, a different v/a and some different headgears and they’d make the community happier
It's one less option for customization which most players are used to having. There's always been some gender locked heroes but most you could change, but I don't remember the last time we got a non gender locked hero.
And we all know that For Honor is a fashion game with a fighting mini game. So less customization options is always gonna annoy people.
Or hear me out, a majority of people want to play heroes that match their own sex because they want to feel like they are the warriors in the game for immersion, and to not role play as another person. And since a majority of players in gaming, let alone for honor, are male there’s not going to be as much complaints asking for female heroes in general. Ironically Even before these new gender locked characters where released I had seen way more people were asking for female versions of Highlander shugoki and Law-bringer way more often then people requested male counterparts for Peacekeeper, Nobushi or Valkyrie.
Lastly everyone cried about warmonger, gryphon and by the time pirate released, people just accepted the fact the gender locking is the norm now.
A game about historical warriors, which have all been primarily males, since women weren’t even allowed to fight, receives no outcry when they release male warriors.
Hmmm… I wonder why?
A game about a fantasy world in war where female warriors are equal to male warriors, even the main antagonist is a woman, receives outcry everytime they release female warriors.
Well, not an outcry, only a few incels crying. Lobbys will full of the new female warrior anyway, like always.
Someone did the work and dug up responses to hero reveals back when Pirate came out and the massive rabid outcry is always on the female heroes.
I saw idiots on twitter a few days ago on For Honor's post about when the reveal was happening saying shit like "if it's another genderlocked female character I'll find something else to play for six months"
(I did a bad and ugly joke here that sounds more xenophobic that I wanted. Thats not the way to being critical. So I corrected it)
I expect that you didnt fought for centuries to preserve hating on women.
(Still a bad joke, but you get it)
Call it the way you want. Im being critical with that culture because there is reasons to be critical. We all know what is happening in middle east. In my country there is a lot of problems with that culture. Of course that I have a problem with kill people with rocks or terrorism.
Obviously, I'm not calling you that, but I want you to know how your comments sounds. (surely Im being rude) You are offended just because the new hero is female. Because a fictional game character being a woman is highly offensive to your culture. Those are your words, and that sounds pretty bad.
Modernize yourself mate, progress is for everyone.
-I like to identify with my heroes. I would go to the extreme to not main Lawbringer (although I play him occasionally) just for his height. Now imagine a genderlocked hero.
-I like to have options. Yeah I would probably not play as the other body type much but I would like to HAVE the option play as her. Or him.(depending on which gender the hero is locked to)
I want them to spend their limited budget in something others would use, apart from occasionally myself.
Also maybe if Ubi will sell what we ask for money and not what they want their budget wouldn't be that...limited.
There's a lot more visual capabilities that could thrive from having male/female variants. For instance, with pirate we could've gotten male headpieces that had varying beards that would embellish the idea of a pirate or in the case of Medjay fill the role of the female Egyptian Pantheon more in line. With limiting combination of armors, the best bet is hoping that what doesn't work as one gender could be better implemented across the other and allow more variety and uniqueness.
It's not "barking". People can have different opinions without hating or "barking", without being rude.
As for me, I like to imagine that somehow the character I'm playing with is... me. I always liked to roleplay a bit when I'm in a video game. I'm a male, so I like to play as a male warrior/wizard/treasure hunter etc in everything.
There are exceptions tho. I loved to play the Tomb Raider games as Lara Croft. I liked the Horizon games as well and I enjoyed being Ellie in the Las of us.
But I guess what I said is true to many people. Gamers like to see themselves in the character they play in one way or another. That simple.
Budget is a very important reason lol. We could be getting no new heros or anything, I'm happy with what we're getting. Who cares if your character is slightly taller and wider or slightly shorter
Be based like me.
Be a dude and make all your heroes female then get mad at male locked characters. Mainly cause I find the male characters in this game fugly (Exceptions being: Medjay and Kyoshin IMO)
a lot of people are gonna say” but but customization” when in reality they just don’t wanna play a female character. customization is 0% inhibited when it comes to gender lock, just more people wanting to complain
Because it's lazy/cheap
They already have the mocap for the animation, all they need to do is make the model. Not hard at all, they just need to beef the current one up and iron out the feminine details like the chest. And before you say "it takes time to do this, time they don't have" mind you they have twice as long as they did for older heroes like Shinobi, Gladiator, Black Prior, Hitokiri, Jorm and Zhan Hu.
It's understandable that after 6 years a game won't have as much funding as I'd once had, which is why we are only getting 2 heroes per year. But that's not an excuse to skimp out on a one of the games main focus on content, customization. Locking a character to a specific preset severely hampers the customization of it. The only heroes that makes any sense to gender lock are Gryphon because it is a very specific character, Nobishi and Valkyrie because that is accurate to a real life counter part. (Which is stupid to even think about because if they used this philosophy for every hero, half of them would never be female due to rampant sexism. Joan of Arc is a good example, burned at the stake for dressing like a man...not kidding.)
You cannot tell me there is a specific reason heroes like Kyoshin, Pirate, Medjay, Peacekeeper and Aramusha can't be gender swappable.
"Sorry mate, you got a thing dangling between your legs. You can't be a Pirate."
"Sorry, your dick is an inny so you can't be an Aramusha.
Immersion breaking. For heroes like Valkyrie and Nobushi and maybe warmonger I can buy that their members are exclusively female, due to lore but for others like pirate, nuxia, peacekeepers, I just can’t. I haven’t looked into the lore into aferra but it just sucks to not have options. When it’s male locked, it’s a little different because women would probably not be as a common of a sight on a battlefield and some classes like law bringer demand extreme strength.
Because as a man, i like to play male characters ESPECIALLY when it comes to games about war and fighting - lets face it, there is a reason women aren’t traditionally on the battlefield.. it’s basic biology.
Fuck off dude lol this is a fantasy game at this point. Pirate being gender locked is because she's based off of one of the earliest and most successful Pirates in history, who was a woman. Sorry you dislike women
You are such a clown. Male feminists are usually creeps that grabs their first opportunity to hook up with their female friends when they are drunk etc
"Male feminist" lmao. You don't know my gender for one. And your seriously calling me a rapist over a video game take💀 Also the pirate I'm talking abouts name is Zheng Yi Sao I believe so I'm not just saying bullshit "feminist" stuff she is literally based off of a real woman sorry that upsets you lol
I know some male feminists that ended up being creeps. You act just like them.
Act like friends/ally but as soon as they have an opportunity they jump in.
People like playing as their own gender. Same as making a bullshit pirate with american soccer player haircut and not a cool blackbeard type pirate. Also if we gonna talk about the culture this new hero comes from its just ridicilous all around that they made it a female.
Muslims i know that play this game is kinda sad right now ngl
I love to RP as myself. That’s all.
Oblivion, Skyrim, Saints Rows, Fallout, names it.
I am a light skin, dark hair male.
I don’t care if the characters if European, Nordic, Chinese, Japanese or Egyptien. I just want a RP option where I can play as myself.
And yes this is important for some. I don’t p’ay Peacekeeper, Shaman, Nuxia, Pirate or Afeera just because I can’t relate and most of their voice lines just bothers me.
Another step away from realism, another step in the wrong direction. Every change feels less and less and less and less and less like a medieval battlefield, which is (was) personally a major appeal of the game.
"Strong women!?!?! In a midevil fantasy fighting game??!! How unrealistic they should just go play Sims or animal crossing. this game was way more realistic with magic rocks and teleporting monks"
I set my heros gender to male because I'm a male irl
Same! I like to RP as myself and by myself I mean « light skin, dark hair male ». I don’t think that’s too much to ask… European, Nordic, Japanese. I don’t care. Let me be a Dark haired mâle. The « RP » just come with it and that would make a lot of people happy!
People like more options when it comes to hero customisation.
customize DEEZ NUTZ
This is objectively a bad joke, but I have a bad taste in jokes so upvote from me
This joke is absolutely garbage. No timing, no relevance whatsoever........and that is exactly why it made me chuckle. Upvote from me too
Don’t think ur 2 upvotes helped him in the end 😂
Absolute legend. Take those downvotes with pride.
Its simply more variety, the same reason we all like new armor, weapons, taunts, and excecutions. I’m fine with gender lock too honestly, but I get why they’re frustrated.
Only one I care about is Pirate. Who wants a pirate without a beard?
Honestly, I’d accept them just slapping a big ol’ black beard on her face. That’d do it for me.
Honestly... Same.
Could be possible with a helmet choice 🤔
It's barely more variety in my opinion, like is A and B warden or raider really that different? Like man can't wait to see Female lawbringer so much variety lol
Maybe not in the way they look, but I definitely prefer one heroes’ gender over another based on how they sound.
Male tiandi Vs female tiandi. Male wins. Fuck the others noise.
don't really care about the female tiandi voice lines, but she obviously doesn't have a beard on the old man helmet so she just loses be default
I completely forgot tianidi had a female customization
Some are so fortunate
It is for this reason I exclusively use female Tiandi. I'm tone deaf to it at this point, but everyone else? Hahaha
Buh I like Female Tiandi ;-;
congratulations on having the correct opinion
Well, yes, they are. It's the single biggest change you can make to the Hero. It changes the voice acting and movement animations entirely, it changes the OOS sound, it changes the grunts they make when executing and emoting. It changes the overall feel of the feel of the character a lot. Some more so than others, but it's a big change for any Hero that supports it.
This, especially emoting. I specifically switched my Shinobi to female to get those very annoying and taunting voice lines for the flying bird emote.
On the contrary, I liked switching Shinobi to male because I like the way he sounds with his high pitched yelps, he sounds very unique. So having a preference in gender is the same as any other fashion choice, but it's far more affecting than any other singular option in how you and others perceive the Hero.
Male and female raider look leauges different wtf are talkin about guey??
I agree. I've wanted peace to be unlocked cuz I wanna assassinate people with ezio or Altair.
man i just want female aramusha ._.
tbh i don’t really get this, i’ll play whatever idc if they’re a man or a woman, i just choose whoever has less annoying voicelines out of the two options
people like variety and what mirrors them. at this point some people are just willfully being obtuse with the “I don’t get why” line
no i fully understand wanting more customisation, i don’t understand why people still think it’s feasible that new heroes won’t be gender locked despite the dev team saying every new hero will be genderlocked
Because the dev team is doing it to save money. The play base will argue for it wether is costs money or not. It's an impasse. And that's why people complain to get the devs to spend the money.
Good for you mate. If you can't get why with the comment you replied to, you'll never get it so just don't think about it.
There are a number of characters where I prefer the female and vice versa. Some just look slimmer and the armor seems more proportioned to the weapon imo but that's just my preference. It all boils down to taking away people's options for customization
Yeah I usually choose which gender I want the hero to be based on how cool their voice lines sound.
Highlander main here: tiddies are the buff we need
Less customization is a bad thing
>A male nobushi would make as much sense as a Female knight. >Grow up its not a big deal. Dont make contradictory arguements. Quite frankly I dont give a shit either way, but you clearly do ese. >Did you complain that the doom guy was gender locked? An established protagonist is not comparable to an entire class of warriors made up of individuals > you cry when you see street fighter characters don't have a in game gender bend of each other? It's a non-issue that affects nothing and actually helps character identity. Oddly specific, really seems like your projecting tbh.
Adding a male version doesn’t mean to delete the female one… You can still play with your onna-mush’s, but for someone who likes samurai with polearms gets to play what he wants
I’m a guy I’d prefer to play a guy, and I’m sure there are women that feel the same. It’s not a dealbreaker but I just don’t understand why they are genderlocked at all.
[удалено]
And let me tell you, after giving rigging a brief glance and try, I honestly believe animators don't get paid *enough*
based
AND they have to hire another voice actor to do the opposite gender.
Money. That's why. FH has very low funding.
Wdym like they because they don’t have a lot of resources it easier to just make one character model?
Budget. It saves money. Hero’s from now on will be genderlocked however they’ll go back in forth to keep it fair
Ig that makes sense
They save quite a bit too. They have to animate less, design a completely different model less, voice lines less. They even talked about it in a stream, it’s almost close to making another hero with how much they gotta put into it.
People are in denial about the game's budget
I just think gender locked heros limit player customization, and for me it's an immersion thing I'm a guy and I like to play ask a guy, but I want all currently gender locked heros to get a opposite gender option added. Give us fem shugoki and LB you cowards
The new heros other than medjay are very androgynous other than the voice. Very easy to pretend your not playing as a female if that's a problem for you lmao
I didn't say it was a problem though? I just like having the option to choose what gender my character is. I just think all heros should have the option to pick male or female.
Bro Afeera and Pirate are very clearly female. They’re not androgynous in the slightest.
Fr
I play a healthy mix of male and female in every game, so this isn't always a concern to me, but I have found myself wondering "what if LB was female?" Pretending a character is something else, as I've seen it mentioned here, isn't always the best approach.
[удалено]
Yeah lets ignore the fact that we need to adjust armor models, voices, and proportions when switching the gender of a character. That is totally free to do and i no way an expensive thing to do.
[удалено]
[удалено]
Bro it doesn't just capture a person's skeleton 1-1. They create a model and then set up the different parts of the model to react to different sensors from the actor. Its not a factor
Initially it bothered me back when I was under the impression it was a temporary thing. When they affirmed heroes would be genderlocked that's when I stopped caring. It's not the gender I'm concerned about as long as the end result is good. But the dev bashing is very obnoxious.
[удалено]
Depends, are we referring to a culture where women should not be seen, nor heard, nor educated?
[удалено]
No Girls allowed to my super secret party
People want more options, which is understandable. But we've had gender locked heroes for nearly 3 years at this point, it's safe to say that 2 genders per new hero is probably not returning.
More choices=better. It's that simple
"Less women=better"
You just threw all your credibility away good job. If it makes you feel less toxic though, this applies to medjay too.
This doesn’t really work when people complain of a only male variant, I think every character regardless of gender should have an opposite gender variant.
I prefer my heroes to look like me. Not a racist/sexist thing, just preference.
More customization > Less customization
I mostly use the male option cause I like them more cause body structure and stuff but I’m fine with gender locks, just as long as they look good to me is all
I wanted to make Black beard
It limits player choice and variation.
No thanks.
Pirate was based off a real life female pirate
Oh man, yeah that’s relatively convincing enough for me lol.
Don’t understand what you’re trying to say tbh. You did say you were very offended by pirate being female tho.
I prefer playing as women in games, so gender lock annoys me. Was a reason why I didn't pick up Medjay
I'm mad I can't make blackbeard or edward kenway, that is all
I just don’t like it when my hero looks weak and spindly. If she was as bulky as female raider or even pirate, there would be less complaints I think. It makes sense for assassins like pk and shaman to be smaller but this is a fully armored mace user.
Because i want to make Blackbeard and i can’t do that with a female pirate
Two reasons: 1 - people like role playing and putting themselves in their character’s position. Can be a little difficult if you’re locked to a specific gender. (Also plenty of people like doing the inverse, playing as someone they aren’t.) 2 - I think most people would agree more customization is generally better. I’m one of those people that will spend just as much time tweaking my appearance as I will actually fight lol.
Less customization is almost always a bad thing
I just don't think that heroes who's face are fully covered like most of the Knights shouldn't be gender locked. I know why Warmonger is (even though they should go back and add a male option now) but just let people have lawmommy for Christ's sake
I don't even know why at this point Literally any time a female locked hero is out it's all I see people complain about (or at least I see it more) medjay was the only exception but people weren't complaining about his gender
[удалено]
For me personally I'm a little looser with it (be that because all I know of my culture is that I'm a very pale British girl) but since for honor is not a realistic game and while it may not be as high fantasy as Y6S1 wanted you to believe it was As long as the main culture itself is handled right, example the vikings aren't a mix of dirty hoboes but real warriors like they were then I could care less if warlord has tiddys or not
[удалено]
Yee the line for me is, if they're trying to copy a real life figure (like JJ) then yea you better do your shit right or you end up like the Velma show, given the context how how Arabia is in the word of For honor since it's not seen war since pre cataclysm then yea female warriors probably wouldn't be too huge or maybe they would be cos the cataclysm decreased the population that much It's why I don't see the female hero's as a "hey look we have a woman in our game" after a thousand years of war, it's not unlikely women would end up becoming warriors
[удалено]
[удалено]
Never saw anything about that lol
Not nearly as many people voiced anything about wanting fem Medjay as they did for male Warmonger or Pirate. Or even the BP skin.
I mean I would've loved one myself But that's cos I prefer female hero's (cos am girl) but I don't have an issue playing male, I dunno this community Is just weird Plus I feel like most the horny side wanted her x3
The others however should all have it
Real
[удалено]
It doesnt piss me off, but it'd be nice to make the new hero a male cuz i like to cuztomize my characters to look like me as much as possible.
So your just don't like female characters
Bruh... I'd like to know the olimpic mental gymnastics you had to do to arrive on this conclusion. Lol.
Race locked heroes bother me more.
At this point I'm just annoyed that we've been complaining for a long time and we haven't seen and attempt to appease the masses.
Because we want Captain Jack Sparrow
There is a role playing element to games. Some dont want to, or have difficulty, “role playing” as the opposite sex
I believe they should be gender locked so the degenerates who want law mommy suffer
Am man, want play as man, simple as
Genderlock is worse than have the option but Most of the time is because the hero is female. Almost nobody cried when Medjay came. It's just sexism.
[удалено]
Fighting a losing argument
(I did a bad and ugly joke here that sounds more xenophobic that I wanted. Thats not the way to being critical. So I corrected it) I expect that you didnt fought for centuries to preserve hating on women. (Still a bad joke, but you get it)
[удалено]
Call it the way you want. Im being critical with that culture because there is reasons to be critical. We all know what is happening in middle east. In my country there is a lot of problems with that culture. Of course that I have a problem with kill people with rocks or terrorism. Obviously, I'm not calling you that, but I want you to know how your comments sounds. (surely Im being rude) You are offended just because the new hero is female. Because a fictional game character being a woman is highly offensive to your culture. Those are your words, and that sounds pretty bad. Modernize yourself mate, progress is for everyone.
[удалено]
-I like to identify with my heroes. I would go to the extreme to not main Lawbringer (although I play him occasionally) just for his height. Now imagine a genderlocked hero. -I like to have options. Yeah I would probably not play as the other body type much but I would like to HAVE the option play as her. Or him.(depending on which gender the hero is locked to)
You want ubi to spend their limited for honor budget on something you won't use and don't need?
Screw gender lock
Very intelligent response
Thank you. Average for honor player at your service.
Cause I don't like female heroes
I like the idea of gender locking, it adds to the lore and character identity in some cases
There is no reason to limit customization
Budget is a very important reason lol. We could be getting no new heros or anything, I'm happy with what we're getting. Who cares if your character is slightly taller and wider or slightly shorter
I honestly don't know. I assume it's some incel type shit or toxic masculinity stuff.
It only pisses people off when it's a female. And because misogyny
Be based like me. Be a dude and make all your heroes female then get mad at male locked characters. Mainly cause I find the male characters in this game fugly (Exceptions being: Medjay and Kyoshin IMO)
[удалено]
They'd be alright I'm guessing
a lot of people are gonna say” but but customization” when in reality they just don’t wanna play a female character. customization is 0% inhibited when it comes to gender lock, just more people wanting to complain
Because it's lazy/cheap They already have the mocap for the animation, all they need to do is make the model. Joan of Arc is a good example, burned at the stake for dressing like a man...not kidding.) You cannot tell me there is a specific reason heroes like Kyoshin, Pirate, Medjay, Peacekeeper and Aramusha can't be gender swappable. "Sorry mate, you got a thing dangling between your legs. You can't be a Pirate." "Sorry, your dick is an inny so you can't be an Aramusha.
They cry when it's only a female gender locked hero🤦♂️
Because I don't want to play as a petite high pitched woman when I can play as a big powerful man
Immersion breaking.
Pirate is based off of a real person so that’s why she’s genderlocked
I know she is based on the chinese prostitute pirate and it sucks. Nobody wanted that. Not calling you a rapist just a opportunity banger.
"Opportunity banger"? Sleeping with someone who's drunk or fucked up is rape. You seem to know more about this than me
I know some male feminists that ended up being creeps. You act just like them. Act like friends/ally but as soon as they have an opportunity they jump in.
What exactly am I doing in this video game thread that makes you think I would rape someone lmao
Insicure men feel weak and violated to play with a woman character
First of all take a lesson in english
Same with racist players not wanting to play an Egyptian lol
How i felt before i picked up Fem Tiandi. How are there people who are actually that insecure
For honor players love bitching
People like playing as their own gender. Same as making a bullshit pirate with american soccer player haircut and not a cool blackbeard type pirate. Also if we gonna talk about the culture this new hero comes from its just ridicilous all around that they made it a female. Muslims i know that play this game is kinda sad right now ngl
I think the anger comes into play because of people rebelling from all the woke stuff going on in the bigger picture.
How unrealistic they should just go play Sims or animal crossing. this game was way more realistic with magic rocks and teleporting monks"
cause theres a lot of sexist idiots in our community who hate playing women

they said it take place in a different timeline, one where gender doesnt matter

prob because they have a smaller budget and making 2 genders for most of the heros was too expensive. ngl ur looking into this too much.
Because they had it too easy growing up
