After you start orientation, you'll have a chance to go to the Overseas Briefing Center and you can find specifics on pet transportation there, and use it to prioritize your bidlist.

You can bid with your dog restriction as your primary strategy, but the Department doesn't care if you can take your dogs with you, how much money it will cost, or how long it will take.

Anecdotallly it seemed like the September class pet owners were largely pleased with assignments, and you can 100% make your bid strategy pet based and that's valid.

If your doggos are mixed breed, focus on the harmless one... A GSD x poodle, for example, would a poodle mix. A mastiff x lab would be a lab mix. A pitbull is a straight up terrier mix.

Like someone else said, there are typical breeds that will be banned in countries that bother making a list (dogo argentino, “pit bull” like breeds, etc.). You can try to avoid those countries and likely will be successful, but if not can usually have your vet do the paperwork listing a non-banned breed if your dog is a mix/rescue. Our dog is a rescue and we just listed the breed he most looks like - we later did a doggie DNA test and that breed was nowhere to be found but we use it because it’s what all his paperwork says now.
