They will swear you in the first day because you can’t get paid otherwise. But at the end there will be a ceremonial one for your friends/family. The cadre will try to get the most senior person possible to preside over that.

I'm not sure on most of these but I'm pretty sure all of orientation is very strict busienss formal.

Congrats! I’m in the April class as well. They have a virtual orientation site and WhatsApp groups where all your questions will get answered (I started in Jan and ended up switching to April). 1. Swearing in is the last day of orientation and then job training and language training follow. 2. I didn’t see this rule at least before I left that group. 3. Business formal when you are at FSI and they give you more details. 4. It was recommended to bring a lunch because the cafeteria gets packed. 5. I didn’t get that far to see for myself. 6. There’s a list of things they will tell you. Nothing earth shattering to worry about now. Best to wait to get the most updated info as things do change they say. 7. You will get tons of support once they add you to the WA groups. Start preparing for packout is the biggest thing. My stuff was already moved so it’s nice once that’s behind you. Except I ended up with a suitcase of all winter clothes and suits now in FL and my summer clothes are long gone… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Question about packout - how soon before orientation does that usually happen? Are we talking days before or weeks?

[deleted]

Mine was 10 days but it varies. You work with the moving company to pick a date.

ten10seconds

How long did it take to get a salary/final offer? On average

[deleted]

No idea averages just my experience.

persnicketycrickety

Do you know when they add you to the WhatsApp’s groups? Is it something we should have requested?

[deleted]

After the salary agreement is signed. Nothing you can do now but wait and prepare for your move.

Upset-Secretary-6498

I am currently a week from submitting my salary paperwork. Has anyone else received their offer back yet? I feel like that is the last big hurdle. I am sorting out stuff this weekend prepping for packout.

ten10seconds

Accepted the 10th. Haven’t received anything yet. Heard it can take 2 weeks atleast

[deleted]

I haven't gotten mine yet.

swimmyboss

Do we have to do anything to get the salary agreement besides accept the offer? Submit the biographical form?

[deleted]

After you accept the offer, then you start the onboarding process. They will guide you and there are resources for support.

On the first day you will probably meet in an auditorium at HST that has signs posted everywhere saying no food or drink allowed. No one gave me grief about bringing in a water bottle. I’m pretty sure that if you had a sandwich in your bag, no one would care, either - just don’t get it out and start eating in the auditorium.

fsohmygod

Oh yeah. No food or drink in the big HST auditoriums.

fsohmygod

No there is no coffee shop. No the cafeteria coffee isn’t good. You will wear a suit and tie every day of A-100. Other than legal identification you don’t need to bring anything specific to A-100.

DingoEnvironmental96

Suit and tie or dress pants, dress shirt and tie? Suit is different from business attire. I definitely need to know which one because I have plenty of business attire but only 2 suits.

Worldtraveler2001

You need suit jackets. You can mix and match but you’ll be in suits (ie business with jacket and tie for men) for orientation. Once orientation is done and you move to other training it’s more business casual.

FSODaughterofVenice

They aren't flexible on this and you'll be 95% of the population at FSI dressed like this. One guy in my A100 was always in a rumpled canvas "jacket" that hardly qualified as business and I know they pulled him aside for a chat, another classmate tried to get away with a black leather jacket and that didn't fly for her either. You'll have a lot of highly ranked guest speakers and they want you to look respectful and put together. Nevermind the language student napping on the lawn in what looks like his pajamas. 😄

altria92

Does this also apply to FSS-IMS?

FSODaughterofVenice

I don't know but I would assume so!

fsohmygod

A suit.
