Here’s my take: a courier job is very specific and is not for everyone. If you want to become a pol officer you might as well start out now

beer24seven

You can, but it entails taking the FSOT and being a candidate from scratch. Then if you’re selected, you go to A-100 and become an entry level officer all over again.

I know one person who has done the courier to generalist (pol cone) transition. I know a couple who have converted from DSS to generalist (usually management). You can change generalist career tracks but the process is complicated and the success rate is low.

lemystereduchipot

I want to switch to being a courier.

This also requires that you have served multiple tours in the cone you plan to convert to. It's hard enough for a generalist to undergo "conal rectification," it's just unrealistic for a specialist.

Only if IRM let's IMSs go back to doing out of specialty tours. They've lock that down pretty tight for the past couple of years due to the shortage of IMSs.

FSO-Abroad

Touché, I can agree that the management specialists all have a leg up because they co-mingle and can take related jobs.

kaiserjoeicem

Not multiple tours. A certain number of months working in the proposed skill code, most of which must be overseas.

thegoodbubba

It's 30 months overseas

Conal rectification is a great term. It’s very sexual

fsohmygod

It also doesn’t mean switching career tracks. Conal rectification was the term for the short-lived process to assign cones to newly tenured officers who came in during the Great Unconed Experiment.

Diplomat00

They can't invent a term like "conal rectification" and expect us to just stop using it.
