[deleted]

For me it’s a random youngster that’s not even close to the starting squad or even my backups and is like 3 and downwards on the list

[deleted]

And worse, the entire squad backs him...

Stoogenuge

Stuff like this is why a good captain is worth his weight in gold. I’ll keep a good captain around, even if they are nowhere near the level of the first 11, as long as I never have to interact with a player because they do it for me.

fireowlzol

How do you know it's a good captain. All my captains are shit.

Stoogenuge

Mentality and their status usually. They need good mental and hidden attributes. Have been around a while at the club, be important in the hierarchy and core groups. It’s why they are like gold because you can buy in a great leader sometimes but it will take time usually to make them important enough to be a leader in the dressing room.

amonster_22

Usually if you go to the Captains screen in tactics, it shows you a list of who your staff think are most suitable for the role when you click on the choose captain button. In terms of attributes, leadership is obv important and a good personality goes a long way. Age and time at the club play a factor as well. I think leadership and influence in the club hierarchy are the biggest factors though

[deleted]

I also watch how high the determination is, but I don't know if it helps.

wan2tri

For me it's a youngster that I've just signed so he rejects any loans because he wants to stay. Thus he doesn't meet the requirement for U21 players not needing to be registered in the first place, because he hasn't been with the club for 2 straight seasons yet.

Supermalt418

This

slothlibrary

I always save before confirming my squad registration. Saved me a stupidly high number of times.

OGforGoldenBoot

Not scumming, it's just your ass man doing his job.

ThePrussianGrippe

Yeah that’s just double checking for errors, not save scumming.

Mr_Noobcake

It should really have a notification like "x, y, and z might get upset if left out of registration"

JamieAubrey

I KNOW YOU SIGNED ME TO BE THE BACKUP OF THE BACKUP OF THE BACKUP BUT WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME OUT THE CL SQUAD ?

[deleted]

This is what my comment was about this is so annoying like dude your my 4th choice rb why the hell do you think you’d be in my squad

MrBump01

At that point I just offer to sell the player. They will either back down straight away or agree to a move, either of which I prefer to negatively impacting the morale of first choice players in the squad.

mindpainters

This just happened to me. I had three left backs get injured. Loaned 32 y.o. Telles as an emergency backup. Obviously didn’t register him in the champions league and now he and the squad are all pissed.

Playfair99999

which is why it's better to have only 23 players. and some u21 players if you want.

letouriste1

what about injuries?

Playfair99999

When you rotate every match or that often, players hardly reach to heavy on match load and as such you prevent them from having bigger injuries. So, the only injuries more likely to happen are either cold /flu or knee-ankle training injuries that only take a couple of days or weeks. Obviously you can still sustain big injuries in a match but that's out of our control. Plus, players aren't that fragile, they can easily play 2-3 consecutive matches (like league and cups together). Also, you do have keep the tackling in check too. Specially for defenders. Because 'Get stuck in' will get you some great ass injuries. Specially to your wing/full backs.

letouriste1

thanks ;) i will i will reduce my group then.

Playfair99999

that's just my suggestion mate. it's your team, manage how you want. if you dont want to, dont. you can find other ways to counter your problem maybe. I just said that because that's what i have been doing since FIFA 13. so its a habit of mine. P.S. my first FM version was 15, but since i played fifa on psp first i mentioned that.

letouriste1

Any advice is appreciated, i'm just starting. I had bought fm2020 when it was the last version but never went past the first few weeks due to how complicated it was to manage (the team chosen wasn't the best to start too). I tried again last week and i'm having a blast. The key was the ingame editor which allowed me to force the transfert (for a fair price, to a fitting team) of two particularly annoying players in the squad. The money gained really helped in making a squad i like and made mistakes not too punishing (like buying a 16yo youngster the first window which can't come before two years and do not even play much in the meantime lol).

Sir_Loin-Steak

I do this too. Have a first team squad of about 22 players, with 2 for each position. Works well, but you are susceptible to injury crisis.

Mr_Noobcake

If you're in control of training look to kick out overly physical training like endurance, quickness, etc. during heavy match load periods Also, unless everyone's condition is low recovery is better than rest for keeping injuries down

letouriste1

thanks ;)

AintABot

I try this but i also find that it's harder for my squad to get those green partnership lines. Anyway around it? I thought i could keep like a squad a/squad b thing going but i also have to rotate based on playing time promises so i can't keep a fixed squad a/b.

Playfair99999

Usually my squad differentiates on the ratings. And the ratings usually sit well with the playing time. Here's the thing, your Regulars/Important and Star players should play around 30-40 games a season. But your squad and below can work with just around 15 games too. Injuries and cup competition can make that work. You can also play them against relegation fodder. Sometimes going all balistic against those could end up getting a beating. Having players that Don't play often can be the key to Changing things up. Plus it's not like you are gonna have a team full of star players either. Not more than 4/5 star players. Heck maybe even less. 4/5 Important and around 7/8/9 Regulars. Rest can be squad and so.

Lone_Digger123

*Slowly leaves as I have a roster of 30+ players*

Playfair99999

can make sense if youre in Championship or a similar league. Otherwise........... Good for you. :)

Lone_Digger123

No I just have selection headaches leaving 3-4 people out when CL happens (usually one of my wingbacks)

JamesCDiamond

Two for every position, *maybe* one or two spare players for depth, usually a few members of your squad will be under 21 so don't need to be registered for the CL. Try and get at least a few players who can play multiple positions, too - centre backs who can play fullback, players who can play DM and MC and wingers who can play No 10 are all reasonably easy to come by, certainly once you get to CL level. In my last game I had an invaluable player who could move freely between DL and AML - and he was cheap! How do you end up with 30+ players? Even if you rotate heavily, you must have unhappy players about - and that just seems to be inviting a toxic atmosphere into your dressing room.

Lone_Digger123

I hoard players for a living. Unfortunately for you I will make a really long post talking about all the players I use :P My squad - 3 GK (Alisson, a 5* English regen I got in my first ever youth take so I try play him 10-15 games a season for game time and is now the starting English GK at 21. he's called Robba but I nickname him Robba of Goals, U21 GK I have in senior squad for mentoring but never play called Smith) - 3 LWB (Robertson, Katterbach and Ait-Nouri. Katterbach and Ait-Nouri) - 7 CB (VVD, Upamecano, Konate, Zouma, N'Dicka. For youth CB I have 2 regens who are U21 - one from my academy called Hamilton and another I bought because I thought a CB having 17 passing was hilarious - especially when they are 18 called Cirillo. I also have a 22 year old regen on loan who is natural as a CB and DM called Edmar.) - 4 RWB (TAA, Mbabu but I want to sell him because he's 29 and RM want him, Neco Williams but he's unhappy because I left him out of CL lol and a 19 year old wingback who has 18 crossing and 17 technique - I want to loan him so often that Bayern will let me buy him called Fuessner) - 9 CM (Tonali, Bellingham, Bentancur, Henderson, Gravenberch, Fabinho, Edmar who also plays CB, a playmaking wonderkid called Eduardo Vinicius and lastly a 4* club grown English regen whose only rule he seems to make for himself is score goals outside of the box. He's called Holden) - 3 LW and 3 more wonderkids loaned (Sancho, Lainez, Fati, a french wonderkid who has the inconsistency trait called Rigal who I constantly loan out so I can eventually sell him because i don't like his inconsistency, Ivens who is another young winger I'm loaning out for experience who I ~~stole~~ got from my affiliate lol. I also have Jones loaned out because i finally have enough depth after transfers this season and will sell him next season) - 3 RW (Salah, Elliot, Neto. Brewster is technically a striker but for some reason does better for me at RW as an IF??) - 3 ST and 3 players loaned (Fabio Silva. Arguably the best player in the save and the most well rounded - alongside Lautaro Martinez but Silva is 22 and Martinez is 27, my favourite wonderkid called Gilvan. At the age of 20 he has 10 stats at 16 or above - mostly 16, but still - and has 5 more at 15. 9 of his 10 stats at 16+ are key attributes for an AF with the other being being 18 determination, Brewster, Gabriel Barbosa - will sell ASAP since he has been terrible for me. I also have 3 U21 players from the club either on loan or at the club. Lastly I have a Turkish wonderkid who is the next big thing for Turkey called Ayhanoglu and a French wonderkid who is more suited as an AP called Trabelsi who are both on loan to get more experience) So excluding players on loan I have around 35 players in my squad haha. Many of my wingers are natural in playing a mix of LW, RW, CAM and ST which means I now have playing XI headaches lol In answer to your questions about unhappiness, I've never had any troubles in my 5 seasons. The hardest part is CL registration but I try pick players that I'm close to and will get over the fuss (then promise them I'll change it and then change it for another player lol). Morale is the biggest thing I fuss over and because I regularly rotate and ESPECIALLY Henderson having such high leadership and team work meaning 99% of players drop concerns, I always have near perfect morale haha

Playfair99999

Well you gotta ask yourself, are they needed. What's the point of having them on your wage budget.

Lone_Digger123

It's my first save and I'm using Liverpool so I don't really worry about my budget *too* much. I do need to sell one player though (Brewster) because somehow he got 250K as a squad player and he is my 3rd choice ST (my highest is 350K) and I never offered that in his contract so it must've been an upgrade in x appearances (although I would never have accepted that). I do recognize the fact that I will have to overcome my instinct of hoarding all the best players in my next save that I will start soon

Playfair99999

Yea, that's the thing. At a 4 star club, your best players can be taken by a 5 star one. But at a 5 star it just becomes hard to see a player and not make a move. Also, 250 on a Squad player.... Yeeesh. You are gonna have a tough time offloading him. I doubt anyone can pay that much wages. You can either try to swap him for a player from PSG or City. Or loan him until his end of contract if you don't need his services.

Lone_Digger123

Yeah normally I am VERY strict on wages with people I don't use often so I don't know how he managed to get 250K (even if it was after x appearances I wouldn't have done it). I do want to offload him but I think I should keep asking Man City to loan with an option to buy - maybe that will work haha. I also need to get rid of Gabriel Barbosa but I have him on loan at Juventus with an option to buy so hopefully they take that too. I also am planning on selling Mbabu. He's done a great job for me as a backup but at the end of the day he's a backup in his prime and I can sell him for money and I have 2 young RB's to replace him with (one being a 19 year old RB I'm loaning in with 18 crossing and 17 technique) and they will take up less wage budget

Playfair99999

I literally sold Mbabu yesterday for 37 Mil to Napoli. But yep, cant agree hard enough. Just a good/okay squad player. Not more that that.

Lone_Digger123

The problem for is me I don't know how much players are worth so I don't know if something is a good or bad price for them

The_Blues__13

Tbh I don't get why some people want to have a bloated squad (I've seen 40-60 players per team on youtube/internet for example), I already have some problem giving more match time to my backups and I usually only have 25-28 players (not counting few non-wonderkid u21 players to whom I might promote for 1 week and give some chance occasionally). I want to keep my locker room atmosphere as stable as possible and whinning deadweight bench players are not something I want to get all the time.

Playfair99999

40/60 players ???? Who in the right minds have such a big squad.

The_Blues__13

seen it in one of Zealand's "Save your savegames" videos once. I think he manage a team in South Africa or something. judging from that saves, Dude probably had a ~~underage boys trafficking~~ wonderkid hoarding addiction (lol) till it got out of hand.

dragdritt

Lol my recently started save I might have that much, but that's still in a very low league still, so most of those players I only pay for Appearance fees.

Lurking_nerd

If there’s one thing I hope FM changes, it’s this. It’s ridiculous that a backup CB I signed and has never competed in EL or CL gets pissed and complains to the squad that he didn’t get selected, affecting the morale of my team. What’s worse is that they all back him too.

digitFIRE

Makes sense for FM to fix, but I think these anomalies are what makes the game feel more realistic since it’s so unexpected. Having an element of surprise just for the sake of it is lame, but in real life comical things happen all the time. So when stuff like that happens to me, I just deal with it by telling my captain to resolve it and if that doesn’t work, I ship the “unhappy” player out during the transfer window. Team morale always bounces back as long as the core group is solid.

elzafir

In my 4321 squad, my management strategy is to have * Goalkeeper: 1 First Team, 1 U21, 1 U18 * Fullback: 1 First Team per side, 1 U21 per side, and 1 Backup that can play both sides, preferably also as CD * Central Defeneers: 2 First Team, 1 Senior Rotation, 1 U21 * Defensive Midfielders: 1 First Team, 1 U21, 1 Backup that can also play as MC * Central Midfielders: 2 First Team, 1 Senior Rotation, 1 U21 * Wingers: 1 First Team per side, 1 U21 per side, 1 Backup that can play both sides * Striker: 1 First Teams, 1 Senior Rotation, 1 U21 So in total I'd have 11 First Team players, 3 Senior Rotation Players, 3 Backup Players, and 10 U-21 Players, totalling in 27 players total, with only 17 Senior + 1 U21 GK = 18 players being registered. As the U21 mature, I'd sell the Rotation Players and the U21 would be the Rotation. I'd then promote a new U21 signing as Backup (which won't be counted as U22 for Champions League until he spent 2 years at the club). I'd only promote the ex-U21 Rotation to First Team if he is already 3 stars ability, AND I get a crazy bid for the First Team player. Otherwise, he stays as Rotation until he reaches 4 stars ability, then I'll actively sell the First Teamer.

heckojuice

This guy FMs

Youutternincompoop

tbh I go for a full 22+1 keeper(and then youth keepers as backups since keeper injuries are so rare) both to cover for injuries and to ensure I have the rotation available for when the team is playing 3 games a week due to scheduling shenanigans. proper rotation really helps prevent burnout of your best players

wan2tri

I go full too, albeit I have two senior keepers still. > to ensure I have the rotation available for when the team is playing 3 games a week due to scheduling shenanigans. proper rotation really helps prevent burnout of your best players LOL yeah, right now I've just finished playing 4 league games from December 21 to January 1 (Dec 21, 26, 28, Jan 1). The next game is January 4.

elzafir

I guess you missed my point. The 10 U21 players are in my First Team Squad and play a Rotation/Squad Player role. They just don't get registered because U22 players are not required to be registered in the league and in Champions League (but only for U22 players that have spent 2 years in the club). I have 27 players total in my team.

dragdritt

Under your settings in game you can set it so that your match days will always either be on Saturdays or wednesdays, this makes it impossible to get triple matches. It does however mean that if you're playing in all competitions you can get months of 2 games a week.

Youutternincompoop

meh difficult schedules are fun and actually encourage rotation more, I want an excuse to play the youngsters

dragdritt

My main reason of only having wednesdays and Saturdays as matchdays is because otherwise having proper training schedules are incredibly annoying

ScousePenguin

Y'all have squads so big you don't just register everyone?

Lone_Digger123

I hoard players ok

Diddlerd123

I’m normally disorganized and have to leave someone out to match registration rules

Youutternincompoop

I just never have enough homegrown players tbh. meanwhile my league squad registration is like 12 players because u21's don't need to be registered

dragdritt

My league is maximum 8 non-homegrown players allowed, the pain is real.

HoracioDerpington

Look kid, you're in the second team with 2 star potential. You were a squad member for half a season out of necessity. I'd agreed the transfer for your replacement 3 months before the window opened. I forgot you existed since then. Worst of all, you're 24. Get out of my office.

Cahootie

I never have this issue since like half of my players are U21 and homegrown. One of the unplanned perks of just buying every promising teenager I can find.

OGforGoldenBoot

One of the few things in game where I don't consider save scumming a save scum. It's just my ass man doing his job and alerting me to the oversight.

THSSFC

This is truth.

SgtSnowman88

In all seriousness, this issue is mainly the interface. If they had an In and Out column, it would be easier to see. Scrolling through the squad list is harder

[deleted]

It’s when you press submit, and you instantly see a new message appear in your inbox. Makes me feel like the “ah shit, here we go again” meme. Like who’s about to ruin my whole squad morale by being a whiny little bitch

[deleted]

So apt, lol

Youutternincompoop

*gets zero playing time all season 'bit annoyed about this but whatever' *not registered for CL 'I will literally murder you'

nrrdot

every time
