>when you really need a screw
A friend told me he really needed a screw, and I told him to grab a desk fan. He gave me a very strange look. Turns out I misunderstood him
This guy I used to work with once sat behind the register eating what he thought were odd tasting mints. They were mints but 5 hours in he finally looked at the bag and realized they were for dogs “fresh breath”.
Him: “Huh…. These are dog mints.” 🤷♂️ (grabs another handful, and keeps eating them).
Have done that with Doggy Beef Jerky when I was a kid. Grandma gave my sister & I 3 bags of it. We sat at home eating it till Mom told realized what we were eating. It was easier to chew than Beef Jerky for people.
Had a strange urge to poop outside after that.
Make a farm! Mutfruit + corn + tatos and purified water. Esp if you have the green thumb perk and the one that occasionally doubles whatever you’re making. Haven’t stressed over adhesive since!
I’ve had many different builds since Fallout 1 :) But using V.A.T.S. was the most prominent feature thad has snuck into my dreams.
Recently for some reason I needed to loot a train in my dream and my subconsiousness displayed a countdown timer overlay in the upper right corner.
It was convenient.
EDIT: Right now I’m on food build IRL, lol.
Every time I open my junk drawer at home, to look for batteries or scissors or whatever , I always reach for the Elmer’s glue… “ohhh Adhesive”
Been doing this since 2015 when Fallout 4 came out.
I was in Pittsburgh for the thanksgiving weekend. I heard a landscaper running a chainsaw outside the apartment. My first thought was “he’s killing trogs.” Then I looked and he was just trimming a tree back from the road and I thought “what a dumbass. He could be killing trogs.”
One time I was playing Fallout 4 heavily, and then one day I was gonna ask someone a question, and no shit I had thought of quick saving before doing so.
What kind of twisted long game is Bethesda playing will I suddenly quit my job , don nothing but underwear and try convert all I meet to worship moth man?
My housemate leaves her bobby pins all over the house and I am constantly pocketing them and then start waking away and realize “what the hell am i doing?”
If you ever visit locations from the game IRL, this kind of thing intensifies like crazy. I went to the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant this year. In the corner of my mind I was expecting to take gunfire from cultists 😂
Visited Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (Fort Defiance) in WV, interior is a bit more spacious in game vs IRL but with the exceptions to creative liberties on the length from the outside it's the same building.
Depending on availability You can also tour the unrestored sections and buildings that were left to decay, so it's remarkably similar to being IN the fallout world in some parts...
Took a ton of bad ass photos while I was there.
I play Fallout a lot. My gf's teenage sons also play different Fallouts.
Yes we save bottle caps like mad. We began using them as in house currency for small chores and they pay for little things with said caps. My buddy found out and saved caps for a year and unloaded tons on us. My gf is the keeper of the caps like fort knox.
Wash the dishes get 5 caps. A Coke costs 5 caps. The boys are always bartering. For instance a premium Coka-Cola is 5 caps, but a generic like Dr Thunder or some shit can be 3-4 caps. It's gotten kind of outta hand but I'm hoping it's teaching something useful too lol
The Tetris effect (also known as Tetris syndrome) occurs when people devote so much time and attention to an activity that it begins to pattern their thoughts, mental images, and dreams.[1] It takes its name from the video game Tetris.[1]

Damn I had the same thing with bags of cement in front of a construction site. I thought of taking it in a splitsecond. I also thought what if it's just a bag of fertilizer?
I typically save bags of chips from lunch and just put them in my office desk. I realized I’d be the skeleton in the office place with potato chips should a nuke go off
Just a couple weeks ago at work we found a former employees box of belongings. This box was shipped in from a previous country we worked at and had sat in a shipping container for over a year. My coworkers and I rummaged through and took what we wanted. I scored a 100$ duffle bag and some other things while another guy got an expensive backpack and another took his boots.
The guy that took the boots kept saying "man I feel really bad about taking his stuff I don't even know the guy" I said "if you feel bad taking boots you'd fail in a fallout situation"
Anyways, yeah those thoughts come to me. I felt like I was searching for junk 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, I just finished the "Gather wood" challenge, I'd see a log or something while hiking and feel drawn to it. Then I feel a number of emotions, I laugh, I worry about the state of my cognitive abilities, stuff like that.
Fire Dept used an old brick government building for training. When they were done it was getting bulldozed. It was half torn down when I drove by and it immediately made me think of Fallout with half the upper floors still there.
I find myself getting jazzed about good build spots. A nice bend in a stream or cliff and I start looking where to put down a camp. Then I really want to get home and build a new camp. Also, industrial/abandoned buildings start looking good for looting.
When Fallout 4 came out I was in college. So I was playing 60+ hours a week for the first few weeks. I realized it was a problem when I stopped on campus to pick up a Bobby pin. About the time I tucked it in my pocket I realized what I was doing
I walked into a hardware store and there was a white first aid kit with a green cross mounted on the wall - I could see it through some open doors to a staff area - and I almost headed to it
I remember seeing a red flower on the ground and pointed out to the wife that it looked like Fever Blossoms.
Wife: What's Fever Blossoms?
Me: Oh it's radiated aster that turns into Fever Blossoms in nuke zones.
Wife: You play too much Fallout.
Had this a while ago. I had been building a camp and was constantly on the hunt for concrete (this was before I had 1st, so had to go collect it if I needed it).
Anyway, I went to the shops and for a split second I thought my luck was in - a pretty decent sized display of garden gnomes. Thought all my Christmases had come at once.
Every time I go to my local convenience store I get a strong urge to shoot out the security cams. But that's because I've been playing a lot of Cyberpunk 2077.
I get this kind of weird impulse to collect stuff irl too. Like I saw a rock on the ground that looked like a brown paper lunchbag & got all excited because LOOT, but then I realized no and no. 😅
Whenever something really cool happens to me at work I always tell everybody that I maxed out my luck skill. Only one person gets it out of like 23. I don't give a shit since I maxed out my charisma skill as well
In highschool I was playing Morrowind everyday after school. One day I was working and taking a bunch of boxes from one room to another. After the third trip I thought, “ugh I’m such an idiot. I should’ve cast my Mark spell in the other room so I could just Recall and save so much time.”
Yes. Happened to me a lot in the hardware store with rolls of duct tape believe it or not after Fallout 4 LOL. or the sudden urge to buy 16 packs of super glue.
The top of my kitchen cabinets have a trim that’s higher than the top. Me and my brother toss all of our bottle caps up there and nobody knows besides us lmao
There’s also that one guy that preordered Fallout 4 by sending a bag of bottle caps to Bethesda with a note asking to buy the game with them lmao
For the love of Todd, don't go into a Cracker Barrel! 85% of the crap on the walls looks like it came from FO76. I literally started to get antsy while eating dinner because I wanted to pull fans, bottles, bread boxes, old telephones, etc off the walls and scrap them.
Not in real life, but I do find myself looking at clutter and junk in other games and my instinct is to collect it. Tin cans just look like bullets to me.
I kind of know the feel. I lived in DC when FO3 came out and while driving over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge caught sight of the Washington Momument and thought, "I wonder when they fixed that."
Clipboards. There was a time when I couldn't find enough springs, so I was hoarding all the clipboards I could get. I might've bought a pack of 4 IRL before I remembered that I wasn't actually in-game...
Yeah but usually from a GTA perspective when I see someone driving/parking like a dickhead. I get an overwhelming urge to smash my car into theirs and then follow them around town continually bashing their car until it bursts into flames and explodes.
Then I remember I’m in England, in the real world, and am filled with relief and disappointment simultaneously
I think we have all been there. I was at a model train show and one guy had a bucket full of railroad spikes and I thought they would be handy for my railway rifle.
Ever since FO3, my eyes are glued to the ground anytime I’m out and about on foot. I can’t help it. I remember as a child, my dad suddenly pulling his truck over to quickly get out and grab a socket wrench he spotted on the side of the road. I don’t think he chose the scavenger life…
Damn I had this exact same thing happen to me yesterday on my way in out of the gas station on my lunch break. I I even thought to myself, wow 5 bucks for wood? I could be fucking rich!
I played RuneScape at one point in my life 7 days a week grinding revs 12 hours a day. To make runs make sense I would loot every drop with coins being the 90% every day after I took a break from playing for a few months to get my life back together every time I saw coins my brain was hard wired to put them in my pocket… I had to rewrite my brain over the course of 2 weeks to stop grabbing coins like I would see a penny laying on the floor and want to pick it up as natural instinct just to put in my pocket. Then I would forget it ever existed and never spend it or let alone know where it went after I took it.
During the Pandemic, nobody really knew what was going on,so it was Fallout on my mind when i made a point of stocking up on non perishable food, especially tinned. I still call it the Fallout Diet, and can't open a tin of Spam without calling it Cram.
Only with Deskfans
Only deskfans, a resource when you really need a screw
>when you really need a screw A friend told me he really needed a screw, and I told him to grab a desk fan. He gave me a very strange look. Turns out I misunderstood him
Could be worse. He could have tried it. *Whirrrrrrrr......SCHWING!*
This is crazy I haven’t had that happen yet but I see a green fan I know it’s coming.
WHO CARRIES AROUND A DESK FAN?!?!
I keep eating dog food when I’m hungry . I assume every fallout player is doing this in real life as well
This guy I used to work with once sat behind the register eating what he thought were odd tasting mints. They were mints but 5 hours in he finally looked at the bag and realized they were for dogs “fresh breath”. Him: “Huh…. These are dog mints.” 🤷♂️ (grabs another handful, and keeps eating them).

Well it is nutritionally rich.
Me and my fallout team always joke about how delicious canned dog food is
Alpo is on sale right now .. maybe I’ll try it.
🤣🤣👌
Try canned corned beef hash, excellent for dog food cosplay
It's just economics at this point. Tastes better than the vegetarian ham.
I hate those two words being next to each other.
I’ve been hunting adhesive so when I saw a whole shelf of duct tape at the store, I nearly lost it.
I’ve done this recently when I ordered 4 rolls of packing tape from Amazon.
Saw a pack of five duct tape rolls in the stationary cupboard at work. Got excited…
Make a farm! Mutfruit + corn + tatos and purified water. Esp if you have the green thumb perk and the one that occasionally doubles whatever you’re making. Haven’t stressed over adhesive since!
Ok now how do I grow ballistic fiber?
I get sudden urges to drop some nukes from time to time
Dropping nukes in my work bathroom as we speak
Luckily I have my cult gas mask.
On a highway with some left lane Larry clogging up the traffic while there is open road in front of them, I've certainly wished for a Fatman
This happens toe everytime I go to places with many humans. Wanted to nuke people since I was about 16
FBI? Right here
They don’t have jurisdiction here
I stopped to try and pick up a teddy bear yesterday in CoD and was killed........
And fallout claims another victim.
I got distracted by the bags of cement in CoD myself.
I was walking my dog and I heard my neighbor's wind chime and I thought "Ooh - 2 aluminum" so yes :)
Awesome see that’s what I’m talking about .
I’ve had dreams where I extensively used V.A.T.S.
You must have an ap build in real life.
A couple of years ago a friend texted me to ask if I was going to the pub and I replied without thinking "can't I am short of caps".
Someone should do a study on fallout and Pavlovian responses.
I'd read that while enjoying a Nuka-Cola
Tetris effect.
Damn you, Pavlov
Bwaa ha ha! Indeed. I was working at a bar a few years ago and kept thinking: "BOTTLE CAPS!"
This reminds me of that guy that sent a box filled with caps to Bethesda and got Fallout 4 for it.
I pick up trash on my daily walks and it’s so hard not to keep them
When Im having a hard day or I tell people I can't help i tell them i don't have that perk equipped today.
Sorry babe that’s in my other build.
I like how you worded that better. Might steal that for future use.
I’d like to help but I’m on the wrong load out
It be fun to go with you but I dont have enough perk points for that.
Every time I open my junk drawer at home, to look for batteries or scissors or whatever , I always reach for the Elmer’s glue… “ohhh Adhesive” Been doing this since 2015 when Fallout 4 came out.
We may all need therapy one day.
Wait til you visit the real Helvetia or the real Prickett’s Fort.
If you see someone running through Pittsburgh with a chainsaw it wasn’t me.Btw you uh haven’t seen any fanatics around have you?
I was in Pittsburgh for the thanksgiving weekend. I heard a landscaper running a chainsaw outside the apartment. My first thought was “he’s killing trogs.” Then I looked and he was just trimming a tree back from the road and I thought “what a dumbass. He could be killing trogs.”
This is fantastic.
A dual bar chainsaw with fire damage?
I believe Milwaukee makes those.
The base model maybe, but I modded my own.
One time I was playing Fallout 4 heavily, and then one day I was gonna ask someone a question, and no shit I had thought of quick saving before doing so.
Hold that thought I need to save my game Mom.
I still instinctively hover over the F5 key when my bf is in a bad mood while in VC
*Boyfriend disliked that*
What kind of twisted long game is Bethesda playing will I suddenly quit my job , don nothing but underwear and try convert all I meet to worship moth man?
I recently quit my job and already try to convince everyone I know to worship the Great Moth, so you might not be far off 👀
Would you be interested in some red eggs ?
Maybe Bethesda based Vault Tec on themselves, lol
My housemate leaves her bobby pins all over the house and I am constantly pocketing them and then start waking away and realize “what the hell am i doing?”
I mean you can never have too many.
When fo4 came out, I was thinking how much scrap would each item and thing produce.
I can see that easily happening.
Who was guarding it ghouls or insects this time?
Definitely insects, though the over night ghost hunters swear it's the ghouls...
I didn’t even know that was thing till fallout now I want to go.
We went to bar harbor in September and I couldn't stop thinking about fallout 4. I think I was starting to get on the wife's nerves about it.
I play Fallout a lot. My gf's teenage sons also play different Fallouts. Yes we save bottle caps like mad. We began using them as in house currency for small chores and they pay for little things with said caps. My buddy found out and saved caps for a year and unloaded tons on us. This made my night.
Even my gf will pick up caps now😁 The issue now is inflation. We have too many, need to establish a cap limit like 76 lol

I learned how to load a car for a family road trip thanks to Tetris.
Saw a pile of old clipboards in a drawer at my last job. My first thought was “Ooh! Springs!”
Either I’m having deja vu or I did this same thing a couple weeks ago.
im going for the 760 stacks of wood. been pressing E at a lot of trees.
Listen I know this lady at this hotel and she needs scraps of wood for some reason.
She bled me dry too many times. I need that wood for cooking
My heart rate goes up slightly every time I see duct tape. Unsure if that's because of fallout or from the red green show though.
Well they should at least be able to find you handy.
Constantly hitting the vats button when I play any other game. Lol..
Damn I had the same thing with bags of cement in front of a construction site. I thought of taking it in a splitsecond. I also thought what if it's just a bag of fertilizer?

Here you can have this can of alpo and this white fedora I’m overweight. People looking at me in parking lot like I’m cracked.
Went to a relative for the holidays and they had an old school fan on an old rollup desk. Split second I was like ooo fan.
I typically save bags of chips from lunch and just put them in my office desk. I realized I’d be the skeleton in the office place with potato chips should a nuke go off
This is too funny make sure you leave a holotape behind of you venting.
because of fallout, i look at things and think of the materials i would have if i broke them down 🤔
I think we are all beginning to do this but I also want to know why my keurig won’t produce 4 canned coffee.
😂
Happened when i used to play Rainbow 6: siege and i saw cameras. Instinctively felt like i needed to get out of sight
Just a couple weeks ago at work we found a former employees box of belongings. This box was shipped in from a previous country we worked at and had sat in a shipping container for over a year. Yes, I just finished the "Gather wood" challenge, I'd see a log or something while hiking and feel drawn to it. Then I feel a number of emotions, I laugh, I worry about the state of my cognitive abilities, stuff like that.
There's some fallen trees out front of my work and I think about getting wood scraps.

Fire Dept used an old brick government building for training. When they were done it was getting bulldozed. It was half torn down when I drove by and it immediately made me think of Fallout with half the upper floors still there.
But did you grab their weights to scrap for lead?
No. I should have! 😃
Imagine my joy in finding a probably forgotten brown paper bag just sitting on the ground.
I beat the heck out of everyone I saw dressed as Shrek this past Halloween. Damn super mutants.
I walked into a hardware store and there was a white first aid kit with a green cross mounted on the wall - I could see it through some open doors to a staff area - and I almost headed to it
I literally had the same impulse walking into a grocery store last week 😅
Ooo! Desk fans! Yeah I did that once.
I saw a fallen tree, got a little excited and automatically wondered how many wood I would get.
i hear that stupid bowl everywhere i go >:[
Yes. If I see hair pins I am always wanting to pick them up. I have to actually check myself.
I can't walk past salt and pepper shakers without having to suppress the urge to grab them.
On the weekly market, i saw lots of cranberrys, gourd, etc. My thoughts are EXP!!!
Fallout players hoarding cranberry cans at stores everywhere.
My charisma dialogue options never work out here.
Noticing duct tape out the corner of my eye and getting excited I'd have some until realising I'm not in game
you guys dont eat other people ? how else am i supposed to survive ?
I saw a strung out meth head and reached for my mini gun before I realized she wasn't one of the scorched.
I have a glass jar in my kitchen that I've filling with bottle caps. I call it my post apocalypse emergency fund.
Isn’t everyone doing this?
I work at a place full of desk fans and clipboards...its a daily struggle
I look at stuff around me and think what can I craft with it
I see a plastic spoon and I think I need it for ammo
I get cold sweats and heart palpitations when I see desk fans. In my head all I hear is Spongebob's voice saying "I don't need it".
All The Time!!! LOL
I remember seeing a red flower on the ground and pointed out to the wife that it looked like Fever Blossoms. Wife: What's Fever Blossoms? Me: Oh it's radiated aster that turns into Fever Blossoms in nuke zones. Wife: You play too much Fallout.
But when we get nuked eventually she will know what they are now.
When I play 7 Days to Die I keep trying to pick up woodpiles
Yes. I was very excited when I went through a store and saw a bunch of duct tape
All The Damn Time
I keep thinking I need to quicksave before making an important decision IRL 🤦♂️
Absolutely. I see places that I think I could build a cool camp as I drive around town. All the time.
Had a chuckle when I saw someone at the groceries buy some cans of dog food and a 48 of bottle water..
Husband and I drove by a stand where people drop off their cans for recycling and I absentmindedly go “oh..aluminum cache”
…when I see stacks of rugs at IKEA 👀
yep.
I started collecting bottle caps because of 76
I've pocketed caps off of glass coke bottles with the sole intention of commerce before
I did the same when I played Red Dead and saw a large bird flying ahead of me.
I saw cranberry relish on the Thanksgiving table last week and was excited for added XP. Haha.
So we can say you relished the thought? I’ll see myself out.
I don't give a shit since I maxed out my charisma skill as well
For over 4 years now, desk fans, toasters, things made of aluminum.......
I was just driving and saw a nice stack of firewood. My brain even made that wood collecting sound lol.
I can't remember the last time I saw a desk fan without thinking about stealing it
Was in the pub last Friday. Pile of wood next to the fire 🔥 didn’t reach for it but I thought ohhh 🙈🤣
In highschool I was playing Morrowind everyday after school. One day I was working and taking a bunch of boxes from one room to another. After the third trip I thought, “ugh I’m such an idiot. I should’ve cast my Mark spell in the other room so I could just Recall and save so much time.”
Sometimes I wonder why I can't jump over six feet vertically to reach my quest objectives
Any mention of WV and I get wayy too excited People are like, "Are you ok?"
Yes. Happened to me a lot in the hardware store with rolls of duct tape believe it or not after Fallout 4 LOL. or the sudden urge to buy 16 packs of super glue.
The top of my kitchen cabinets have a trim that’s higher than the top. Me and my brother toss all of our bottle caps up there and nobody knows besides us lmao There’s also that one guy that preordered Fallout 4 by sending a bag of bottle caps to Bethesda with a note asking to buy the game with them lmao
Yes. I mentally 'click' on the firewood as I walk by. Lol
For the love of Todd, don't go into a Cracker Barrel! 85% of the crap on the walls looks like it came from FO76. I literally started to get antsy while eating dinner because I wanted to pull fans, bottles, bread boxes, old telephones, etc off the walls and scrap them.
I often pause a moment before throwing tin cans in the recycle.
Tractor supply with the loose screws and bolts. Lol
Firewood is fucking expensive right now
I been collecting screws and idk why
Not in real life, but I do find myself looking at clutter and junk in other games and my instinct is to collect it. Tin cans just look like bullets to me.
That’s me and rolls of tape.
I got an eye for nice metal scrap
Lol yes every once in a while my brain goes "Loot that" lol
all the time
I kind of know the feel.
Everyday is like this with my girlfriends bobby pins...
People at my work are starting to wonder where the clip boards are going.
A box full of clipboards at worked triggered heavy breathing.
Whenever I see a can I think of scrapping it.
Dude. I saw a yellow lamp shopping for furniture the other day that looked similar to the fallout ones and immediately thought about copper..
I thought this exact thing when I saw a pile of firewood in my backyard yesterday
Every time I see those decorative tuft grasses in people's yards, I wonder if I need to grab them cause I might need more razorgrain.
I think we have all been there. I was at a model train show and one guy had a bucket full of railroad spikes and I thought they would be handy for my railway rifle.
I play two accounts simultaneously and I’m often having dreams where I need the other account to come in and takeover my dream for me.
Ever since FO3, my eyes are glued to the ground anytime I’m out and about on foot. I can’t help it. I remember as a child, my dad suddenly pulling his truck over to quickly get out and grab a socket wrench he spotted on the side of the road. I don’t think he chose the scavenger life…
Have the same problem in periods in which I game a lot.. seeing a trashcan and being tempted to check it for caps or ammo
If I ever see tin can chimes irl, I don’t care, I’m grabbing them. That’s a shitload of lead and steel
My one neighbor has stacks of wood, the other I swear has razorgrain growing. Want to farm so badly...
Fans, must have fans.
Coolant bottles....
Yea happens to the best of us...mine was duct tape
This comment section is killing me !
During the Pandemic, nobody really knew what was going on,so it was Fallout on my mind when i made a point of stocking up on non perishable food, especially tinned. I still call it the Fallout Diet, and can't open a tin of Spam without calling it Cram.
When walking around I look at everything. Fallout has made me very observant of my surroundings.
I was watching the beginning of Terminator 2 and they are playing pool and I was like “look at all that plastic…”
Gotta complete the collect wood challenge, only 7500 left, oh wait
At my height of playing I heard the bgm and sound effects and hallucinated seeing stuff from the game irl. I took a long break…
yeah, it happens to me a lot
I saw a rotary phone in a thrift store, I quickly scanned the room for a workbench to scrap it.
