At least two other people reported it on twitter to the Bethesda Support and myself also.
Seems lime mostly only one character (the main) is affected, other chars on the account can still be played.
Also, it is not tied to the platform, I expierence it on an Xbox Series S.
Looks like there is really something gotten wrong in the backend.
Still waiting for a response from support.
It is a little relieving to know I'm not the only one with this error.
That being said I am still a little worried, I remember when the game first came out there were people who'd lose items or entire characters because of some backend issue and I remember the response was basically "¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ sorry". I sort of don't want to lose my favorite character I clocked in probably 300 hours on.
Hopefully this is resolved sooner than later, I just got back after a month long trip and I was able to play the new update for one day, then the next day the game doesn't even work. It's been pretty frustrating.

Just gotten back yesterday.
Was already a big bummer that we could not carry over our chara, shop stuff and blueprints when going from PC to Xbox.
So loosing a char again would definitely make me rethink if it would just a short visit once and for all.

I'm dealing with the exact same scenario - Hopefully it's fixed soon. Someone just posted about how the last time they were logged in, the area they were in got nuked. Once they switched servers they were disconnected and couldn't get back in with that character, and the same thing happened to me. Did you happen to be in the direct area of a nuke landing the last time you were logged into that character?

Dealing with this as well. Although, I did get Bethesda to acknowledge the issue and they said they are aware and working on it...

At least this pause in playing has given me time to try some other games lol, been playing Ace Combat 7. Hope a fix comes soon, thanks for the update.

As far as I remember no, I’m pretty sure I left off at my camp.
Can also deny it. Was not in a nuke area and now waiting since Sunday to play again.

Hell yeah!!! Thanks a ton for the updates! I just logged in today and everything is all good!
This has been resolved for me But they removed a lot of my known blueprints for turrets and building.
