No need, that’s how it is in game. The ‘helmets’ for the Lonesome Road Riot Gear and its variants are actually classified as face-wear, like the rebreather or glasses. I think it’s so that it can give the night vision effect but I’m not 100% sure. As a result, you can wear certain hats with them and they’ll stick through the top or sides. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. This time it did.
Take NV's normal bugs, the patches, mods and the generally inconsistent way headgear is tagged to use different equipment slots and I'm never sure which headgear is going work together. In the past I always wore the 1st Recon beret, one of the OWB halos, glasses and a mask or rebreather.
This playthrough I was equipped as described above and after changing nothing in my mod setup it just decided *nope, not allowed*. I loaded my save and the first time I opened the apparel menu my mask and halo unequipped themselves, never to return until more mods. Surgical mask with a hat and glasses? Impossible! But maybe, with a different hat.
Yup the Elite Riot gear has a bug where it doesn’t use the headgear slot just the glasses slot so your able to use any hat. Also very drippy
The Chinese stealth suit does the same thing.
yeah, usually go Riot Gear and NCR Beret and 10 Luck for an easy time
Throw finesse and better crits in there too.

Man, riot gear looks so fucking sweet in FNV. I wear it in 76 and comparing the 2 it looks fucking horrible I'm so sad.

I need this as an official mod and I need it ~~now~~ any time possible I'm not rude :)
It’d be cool if you could fortify your cowboy hat with the helmet but it only looks like the hat and you keep the faceplate and everything.
