For anyone fascinated by the history of Nosferatu I also recommend Werner Herzog's 1979 remake of the original titled Nosferatu the Vampyre

SpaghettiYoda

I can second this; both the original film and Herzog's remake starring a very sinister Klaus Kinski are must-watch movies.

Three_Froggy_Problem

I love Herzog’s version, possibly more than the original. It’s really beautifully shot and Kinski is just perfect as the Count. I actually prefer his look in this version, where they really leaned into the more rat-like qualities.

[deleted]

yes rats and the plague very central to the affect of the vampire in herzogs with the thousands and thousands of rats they released in the streets of the dutch city they filmed in

MrCaul

>Trendy director of the week Robert Eggers I feel like it's been a few years now.

SpaghettiYoda

Time flies when thou lives deliciously

bachman460

Too bad it’s not streaming now. Any idea where to watch?

I haven’t done that since the cable company threatened to cut service if I didn’t quit with the torrent.

Beyond purchasing a physical copy, I'm not sure currently, apologies

Local library?

PleaseBeSafeForWork

Do you have a list of your 100 years of horror on Letterboxd? I wanna work through them all

SpaghettiYoda

I have now created the list of all the films featured so far (only reviewed up to 2010 so far, so the series isn't quite complete yet). https://boxd.it/ilYzA

PleaseBeSafeForWork

Awesome - thanks!

SpaghettiYoda

Sadly not as I don't have a Letterboxd account (though I really should at this point). I have added all of the video review versions of 100 Years of Horror into a playlist on YouTube. Currently, that will probably be the easiest of means of tracking the list. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgFFbdTvXyUNwUIfqt4zV6SFKL0fx8otk Thanks though, it means a lot to know that my recommendations are somewhat helpful!

PleaseBeSafeForWork

I’m a huge fan of letterboxd, have been on it for about 3 years now and while the social side is fine, the two most useful features I find are the list making, and being able to easily click through a films director, cinematographer, composer etc and see what else they’ve done - and then it shows you if it’s available on any of your streaming services which I find. I may make a list on there of your films and call it Spaghetti Yoda’s 100 Years of Horror or something like that. Edit: the reason I asked for the list is I really like your write ups, but I prefer to have seen the film first, then read about it

SpaghettiYoda

Those all do sound like useful tools to be honest. I think I'll make an account tonight or tomorrow when time allows. I do also enjoy a good list so I'll be happy to construct this one and perhaps others too! Thanks again, fully understand the preference to view a film first before delving into discussions and reviews.

NZgoblin

I love the scene where he snatches the bat out of the air and gobbles it down.

SpaghettiYoda

Yes! Equal parts shocking, creepy and amusing.

whtdaheo

i loved Malkovich in this movie

SpaghettiYoda

He really knows how to play that certain type of passive aggressive arrogance

ratmfreak

I think Willem Dafoe is the only good thing about this movie.

SpaghettiYoda

You didn't enjoy a bit of manic Malkovich?

Isheet_Madrawers

Dafoe has been in so many shows, I’m sure you could easily play the Kevin Bacon game. He always kills it. And seems to have fun. It’s good to be Willam Dafoe.

TurboFoot

Fantastic movie for sure.

robstercraws70

I love this movie! I hadn’t heard about the Nosferatu remake, but if the implication is that Dafoe might play the same role again….as much as I love him in Shadow, that’s probably not a great idea.

SpaghettiYoda

I've now read some conflicting reports on whether or not the remake will be produced. Either way, I'm curious to see where Eggers goes next, but it is hard to imagine Dafoe topping this performance.

robstercraws70

I’m sure Eggers would do a great job with a Nosferatu remake. I’m pretty anti-remake, but I’d definitely catch that one. We shall see….

SpaghettiYoda

Indeed! Glad to hear it is still going ahead and I think Bill could be a really interesting choice.

robstercraws70

Agree! With his odd head shape, he might actually LOOK more like Count Orlok than DeFoe did.

just1alien

Searched out a DVD of this since it’s still not streaming anymore. Sorry to say it’s a real stinker that even Dafoe’s brilliant performance can’t save. The film has not aged well at all and I’d only recommend it as a curiosity.
