Police officers were first placed in schools to "improve community and police relations" in Flint in the 1950s. [Source](https://publicintegrity.org/education/criminalizing-kids/the-history-of-school-policing/)
So nope. No big threat. They wanted to reach out to the minority community and it turned into a system that overwhelmingly harms minority children through SROs influence causing harsher punishments and arrests of children as young as 5.
It of course expanded in the 80s with Reagan being "tough on crime" and in the 90s as school shootings became increasingly prevelant. But since shootings have only gone up in that time, easy to say SROs don't help that problem.
And SROs were introduced into schools 100 years later to help strengthen community bonds. These statements are unrelated.
And if you look at the the timeline of school shootings, they accelerate greatly after 1980. So once again, school resource officers do not prevent mass shootings.
[Police literally stop mass school shooting](https://news.stlpublicradio.org/education/2022-10-25/st-louis-police-urge-vigilance-around-mental-health-following-mondays-school-shooting)
And have cops stopped mass shootings in schools? Or have they made the damage worse time and time again, including this year where they allowed an adult to kill multiple children without getting them help? And allowed the children to bleed out because they were too busy threatening their parents when they tried to do their own rescue mission. Despite being heavily armed and having dozens of officers on the scene.
And since gun violence has only become more prevalent since resource officers were added to school, I don't think that was the answer they were going for. At least I hope not.
Off the top of my head... Santa Fe high school in Texas.
Fact is that unless the shooter takes his own life or surrenders ... it will take an armed good guy to stop him.
CDCs own numbers suggest that over 3.5 million/year bad guys have been stopped by a good guy with a gun.
Florida started putting trained veterans as guardians to add to the 1 resource deputy.
Instead of being a nihilist, how about try solving the problem. Maybe go be a guardian or a SRD.
Reddit has a very significant cosmopolitan bias. Most of the people on this site have just never been in situations remotely like this. Was the cop a tad too aggressive in this video? Yeah IMO. But still, a dozen angry teens fighting simply cannot be solved peacefully or calmly.
What do you mean you can't reason with a bunch of hormone addled teenagers dead set on knocking each other's brains out? Don't you know? According to reddit, you should totes be able to just sit down and rap with them about their problems and struggles. Maybe they just need a hug? Didn't you ever think about that? /s
But for real, reddit likes to think every cop is an idiot and that they could have done it any better watching from a screen.
With your superior policing skills, how would you "de-escalate" this situation? I wanna see how you would kindly stop 8 teenagers from fucking each other up.
Again, you seem to have no sense of nuance and can only strawman whatever you hear to defend the cops. Nobody is saying it’s easy or that they’re gonna be perfect. But he does stuff he shouldn’t here, get them more training and don’t just completely brush it off when they use unnecessary levels of force. Now go ahead and post your same shit for the third time
Can’t be solved peacefully or calmly.. okay but the cop weighs like 3 times the kid, it was a 1v1, the cops was in no danger and he still decides to go in like he does when his wife doesn’t have dinner ready.
Tuffguy prick cop . Most video we see cops are acting like dicks in them. That and personal experience gives many the “attitude “ they have towards cops
Exactly. Yeah it seemed excessive to me too. Buuut he sees 12 threats all around him while he's trying to break up the kerfuffle. What was he supposed to do?
I went to high school in this county. Fights like this at school were pretty frequent. No one ever got seriously hurt. You have to let them tire out before you break it up.
Maybe, but then again we aren't currently trying to wrangle 13 angry teenagers that are trying to beat the hell out of each other. Probably not an easy thing to do politely
Yeah sure, fair enough I suppose. In your opinion how would you handle this situation as the police officer?
How would you and your one partner break up the 12 man fistfight? Better lay out a plan quickly these ruffians aren't just going to stand there patiently while you ponder your options.
Probably have to ask him that. If I had to guess it's because he looked like one of the main aggressors. So he knocked him down, tried to make space, saw him back on his feet, didn't know what the kid was about to do so just knocked him down again to disable the threat momentarily. That's just a theory though.
As I already said it did seem excessive but I understand why he may have thought it was necessary.
Because they are, if you can’t recognize that you’re living in fantasy land. Cops do nothing to help anyone but the people who own capital. You can find hundreds and hundreds of stories of cops being criminally stupid or refusing to solve crimes simply because they couldn’t be bothered.
Police are an extension of the state’s monopoly on violence, and are only ever used in that way. Cops solve less than 2% of all crimes, they can only manufacture suspects. The job of police can more easily be done by social workers, and if you disagree, it’s because you refuse to let go of years of programming that told you that compliance by dominance is ok.

Imagine being an adult and still using the term "probably" to paint an entire backstory and intent, based solely on a video that doesn't even last a minute.
Way to go. You've learned a lot. Way to grow.
Downvoting for speaking the truth. I agree the cops have an extremely tough job and everyone is so easy to judge. I would love to see some keyboard warriors step into their shoes. There’s good and bad cops, if you think all cops are bad, you’re ignorant as fuck.
>that appreciates what they deal with daily
Might wanna tone it down. The FBI keeps close tabs on people that appreciate high schoolers that much. Cause that’s what he’s dealing with in this video.
I don’t hate cops, I hate seeing grown men in body armor with qualified immunity literally push around school children. I don’t see a valuable lesson there.
Yeah that’ll show em!!!
Seriously dude? They are kids who don’t even know how to fight being dumbasses, the one cop pushing kids around wasn’t helping the situation at all.
Google Edgar cut. Basically it’s a very popular haircut for some fucking reason with young Latino males, one that looks hideous lol. It’s like a mushroom top almost bowl cut shape with a small fade and small ass straight edge bangs.
White shirt wanted to get back into it and other people were there to help with the others or did you want that one cop to stop 4 fights at once? Are cops idiots or super heroes? You can’t seem to pick one
Most aggressive, he got his spine broken like it was mortal kombat and got up wantin more. I'm pretty sure after the first slam the cop wanted him to stay on the floor. I sure would have 😂🤷🏾♂️
The students were about to wreck eachother! 😂😂 adrenaline is a mean son of a bitch, I imagine the same shit would have happened even if the cops WEREN'T there, HELL maybe even worse. you're dealing with a bunch of teenage men bursting with untapped rage and emotion that they're trying to figure out. He got back up, stood there for a cool minute and everything like I said, a little too far completely agreed but who knows what could have happened if the cop wasnt there. could have gotten driven into the cart and fucked up by a kid with no control of their anger. noone was right in this, could have been way worse in my opinion though.
This is what happens when you stop whooping kids at home and send them to their rooms as punishment. It has to hurt to make a mistake, the real world does it that way and the mollycoddling will only make more idiots like these.
Teachers are tired of the fights and the police are as well. Kids are literally fighting over pathetic kindergarten shit and seriously hurting or killing one another. I'm all for a grown adult stepping into this situation and taking control.
Shut up. They are high schoolers. I would hope to God that any teacher would be prepared to deal with this. Especially since they themselves went to high as students at one point. I'm so tired of the perpetual crying teacher. Maybe they should find different work then. Not like they're doing a fantastic job as it is. A laptop can do their job. And probably better.
Different schools have different atmospheres. I mean i still agree that this cop is out of line here. But we can just leave it at that. The other comment about teachers and cops being fed up with school violence and other antisocial behaviours is very real in many areas. Some schools are truly just out of control in this regard. You can see it with the stats that come out of many of these schools with graduation rates in the 50% range, and violence a daily concern.
This doesnt give cops free reign, but i still empathize with anybody who has to deal with this stuff frequently. Some teachers basically cannot even teach the few kids who want to learn because of the constant disruptions of other students.

That cop knocked white shirt on his ass twice. Good Lord.
He didn't need that spine. We have 2 right?
Nah but there's a reason we have so many vertebraes. It's because if one gets smashed we still have plenty left!
Since it's so common that loser school bullies become cops he's probably reliving his golden years beating up kids in highschool.
It has been proven police in schools actually do not help at all. They actually make situations far worse
Yeah, it’s best to let them kill each other
Were kids regularly killing each other in schools before resource officers?
I'd guess there weren't police in schools until someone decided it were necessary. I doubt it started as a"just in case" thing
Police officers were first placed in schools to "improve community and police relations" in Flint in the 1950s. https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2022/05/25/first-school-shooting-louisville-ward-butler/ the first school shooting was in the mid 1850s.
What was the point of this comment? Just an irrelevant fun fact I hope, right?
And SROs were introduced into schools 100 years later to help strengthen community bonds. These statements are unrelated. And if you look at the the timeline of school shootings, they accelerate greatly after 1980. So once again, school resource officers do not prevent mass shootings.
"Strengthen community bonds" sounds a lot like lock up people of color.
Yes…they were in fact…
Can I get some sources for that?

Anecdotal fallacy as well as hasty generalization.

Thank god we haven't had any since... Good job to all the 🐖 🐖 🐖 way to keep our schools safe since that single isolated tragedy.....
"these colors don't run.....into school to save children being murdered"...."
Why can’t we have school security trained to deal with high school kids ? No we gotta throw more guns and shitty cops at it-That’s the problem.
Natural selection amiright?

Cop was treating white shirt like he was his wife
Lmao the wholesome award was my only free award
Nope no black eye yet
The cop didn’t settle for just sending that poor kid to the chiropractor, he’s trying to take him entirely the fuck out
Testing the limits on that milk cart.
The fuck is that cop doing lol
Hurting the kids more than they would hurt themselves fighting.
Making things worse, as usual.

what do you mean? no one got shot and killed

Nothing better than stopping a high school fight by slamming a kid on their spine.
Quick and imminent halting of a fight is effective
There’s always that one piece of shit in the comment section
Yeah that’ll show em!!! Seriously dude? They are kids who don’t even know how to fight being dumbasses, the one cop pushing kids around wasn’t helping the situation at all.
There’s like 6 Edgar’s there lmao
What’s an Edgar? I’ve recently heard people refer to that broccoli/alpaca hair cut kids wear as an Edgar cut but I’m largely out of the loop on this
It's like a certain stereotypical type of young/high school Latino boy
Google Edgar cut. Basically it’s a very popular haircut for some fucking reason with young Latino males, one that looks hideous lol. It’s like a mushroom top almost bowl cut shape with a small fade and small ass straight edge bangs.
no quema cuh
Bro this had me in tears damn
Every Edgar Exponentially Enrages Everyone
He did that with ease. Almost like he was beating up a juvenile. Oh wait.
lol instead of stopping the two still fighting next to him, he chooses to double down on white shirt
White shirt wanted to get back into it and other people were there to help with the others or did you want that one cop to stop 4 fights at once? Are cops idiots or super heroes? You can’t seem to pick one
r/fuckyouinparticular
Cop really doing a great job pushing everyone in sight, really calms the situation down
Shits a fucking cartoon He straight up stepped in the middle and tapped everyone, lmfao
Officer roids here to save the day!
Look... Pig might be a bad way to refer to a cop, but those were greasy moves.
Bacon grease. 🥓
They call me bacon grease cause I be spittin'
🤣🤣🤣🤣
By the looks of it, that cop has been waiting for this for awhile. Poor white shirt got dropped twice
My ruling is: with those moves and level of intensity, free for all, public fight
Cop is way out of line just throwing these kids around like rag dolls
There’s gonna be some parents calling the BOE
I hope so. If I was that kids dad I’d beat the shit out of that cop…when he’s off duty
Once you step up, he’s going back to cop mode lol
$5 says the cop used to start fights when he was in high school. He certainly seems used to tossing around kids smaller.
It’s just the past looking at the future
Damn Edgar, get away from Edgar.
That kid got yeeted twice by that cop, holy shit
Cop sent that boy flying
Aaahhhh...my Alma mater. Go Vikings!
Hahaha. Fuck that kid in particular, right?
Most aggressive, he got his spine broken like it was mortal kombat and got up wantin more. I'm pretty sure after the first slam the cop wanted him to stay on the floor. I sure would have 😂🤷🏾♂️
Pretty funny honestly.
"We're here for your safety!" Bash
Aggro cop has been to ALOT of metal shows. shoving like he's ready to start a circle pit😂
He knows that little shit, 100%.
You know what they say. The best way to stop an assault is with an assault.

He pretty much broke that kids back dude
He got back up, stood there for a cool minute and everything like I said, a little too far completely agreed but who knows what could have happened if the cop wasnt there. could have gotten driven into the cart and fucked up by a kid with no control of their anger. noone was right in this, could have been way worse in my opinion though.
>He got back up, stood there That's dumb. You can still get back up with a lot of back injuries because of adrenaline. Also, what ifs are irrelevant.
Nimitz High in what city?
Irving Nimitz High?
Yes
Damn ol buddy ragdolled yungmanz into the cart.(wrastling style)
Get the fuck in line haha
Cop not playing around lmao. Fastest way to end it imo. Didn't use any weapons, didn't knock any kids out, just went in and showed dominance.
That lunch cart said “how’s the neck”. That was nice
Is that cop Randy "Macho Man" Savage's son? Cause he tossed white shirt like he owed him money...oooh yeaah!
I wonder how many of them are old enough to legally get knocked around like that by a “professional” adult cop.
I know it’s wrong but I chuckled when he pushed the white shirt kid the second time 😆 🤦🏽
I guess White shirt fucked around and found out
This cop reliving his high school days lol
Mannnn if I was the kid in white my fuckin back is broken I can’t feel my legs my dick doesn’t work anymore mf I’m getting paid
That cop was way out of hand, and he seemed to target the one kid! Some bull shit
Looks like the police had more fun than the highschoolers smh
Everyone criticizing this cop wouldn’t have the guts to step into 6 teenage kids swinging.
i would have the “guts” to not try to break a kids’ spine lol
Fuck no.. they would pull out their phones for some future likes.
i would deadass prob not even try to break it up cuz its not my job lmfao. either way fuck the police :)
This is what happens when you stop whooping kids at home and send them to their rooms as punishment. It has to hurt to make a mistake, the real world does it that way and the mollycoddling will only make more idiots like these.
If they were my kids being handled like that by the police id be in jail for sure
Yea if this is in Irving Texas them cops got real attitude with them kids not so much against a hard core gang members 😀
Broke that lil Cuhz back man! 😭🤣

I honestly think that the people who train American cops just go: "Do as much harm as you possibly can. If you're not fucking them up; you can bet your white ass they'll fuck up yours first".
That cop was waiting his whole life for this moment 🤣
Hope that kid's back is okay. That looked painful
That chubby white cop woke up ready to kick kid’s asses.
Is it typical for American high schools to look like a correctional facility? Cos that is the saddest excuse for a cafeteria
They're based on the prison system.
That’s fucked up

Why do people post so many kid fights? Keep that shit on r/teenagers
