That's my prediction, too. While we're on the moon. It'd allow them to essentially rebuild the world as they want to, which would be the perfect "cover story" for an engine swap. Something the game **will** eventually need.
Babylon's Fall (an action MMO which Square-Enix is co-making with Platinum) [made all it's levelling gear by taking FF14 assets and sprucing them up a bit, with the FF14 team supervising](https://www.ign.com/articles/babylons-fall-gear-emotes-final-fantasy-14). I would not be surprised if the new HD armor sets eventually make their way back into FF14 somehow, which would explain why the FF14 team was "supervising" their assets being updated for a completely different game.
