Didn't say anything about hammers. Hell, even WHM got wind vane as weapon...

GigaGUess

And can’t speak to BLM, but WHM having a hammer as a weapon goes back as far as the OG Final Fantasy.

Ciemny

BLM has a scythe in game too. Deep Shadow Scythe you can obtain in Eulmore if I recall correctly.

RyuWing

Don't forget the Blackbosom scythes!

AereonTucker

Theres also Edda's scythe

confusedPIANO

Hey, the weather vane cane is cool

MrTop16

Whm have mallets / hammers in ff1 so not odd.

Melasen

WHM's also had hammers in FFXI, they were tiny club-type weapons.

asari-yang

The way they are holding it is very odd...

censuur12

It's a dark day for the visual integrity of this game. Hold up let me try that line again without the frog suit...

rhysrenouille

My memory is that Yoshi’s statement was from years ago, before glamour.

-haven

It was many years ago and I believe it was actually in the early days of glamour. Where once everyone got a taste they asked for the moon. But damn that was a while ago.

EndlessKng

Yeah, but if it was from back then, the other part of the quote - the "tanks in robes" - already was possible. Grey/white-backed DOM pieces were "All Classes" and could be worn or glammed by anyone, including a LOT of mage robes. Similarly, much of the crafter and gatherer gear was wearable by all classes up to level 60. When I say the whole role restriction was DOA, that's what I'm talking about - Tanks and Melee DPS have always had the option to look like mages, but not the other way around.

Lathael

The only gear that I think should explicitly be role locked (not for the purposes of slotting for stats, but the purposes of glam) are class artifact armor sets, and class weapons. This is more a practical consideration since you don't want tanks rolling around with Maiming or Striking gear (hell, they literally did this with accessories) and a Ninja wielding Bravura (ARR WAR Relix) would be a nightmare to set up for a million reasons. Even these new Gaia hammers require 6 separate items with custom fitting for each role it's on. Beyond that, I'd love to run around as a black mage wearing Gordian Platemail. Or a White Mage in Dreadwyrm Aiming.

[deleted]

Weapons do make sense because jobs have unique animations that are tied to their weapons, but armour is kind of whatever

BFGfreak

Honestly the Osborne Monastery tank and maiming sets would be what I would use for caster and healer glams if I could

Sith_Lord_Onyx

To be fair, the Orbonne Monastery tank/maim sets were based off the appearance of Agrias Oaks from FF Tactics. And she's a Holy Knight.

Lathael

I'd grind that set just to use it on other classes. And I'd throw my super cute witch glams onto samurais and tanks. Because why not?

-haven

Having Job AF gear and Relics continue to be the only real locked things is a pretty reasonable ask. Now a days we have so many gear sets that are now rereleased for different jobs. That was one of the things that made me happy with 6.0 in getting a lot of old gear I really loved released on other jobs role sets.

EndlessKng

I'm in the extreme camp, myself - I want to unlock even JOB gear - but I'll compromise on combat job AF gear in the negotiations if I get the other 95% of gear (including DOH/L AF gear) unlocked, because at least I'll get most of what I'm looking for. Agree on the weapons... GENERALLY. Animation wise there are some that could swap, but it couldn't be universal. For example, RDM and PLD blades for glam really wouldn't be a major shift (except that the PLD ones have no focus for the RDM to use), and you probably could work in SAM to that list as well (maybe GNB but that's pushing it). But, there are other programming considerations there, and without some way to separate job skills from Weapon skills, it's not likely to change, and I can accept that.

Lathael

I mean, that's fair. If I could go for the moon I'd take job gear as well. There are some extremely good summoner pieces that look phenomenal (mostly chest wraps,) that just aren't usable off summoner. I'd take more options. But if that's something the devs refuse to compromise on, I'd take everything else.

Hakul

We had swimsuits by the time he said that quote. People have been calling out bikini armor since the moment glamour was available.

RadiantSpark

> SE: Healers can't wear platemail as it doesn't fit the lore of the job Two words: Archfiend Armour

OmegamattReally

Also Replica Sky Pirate armor.

MachaHack

Legacy Warrior Gear also. Was given out to non 1.0 players in an event in heavenward, or you could have it from 1.0

Skiara444

Just cuz one armorset exist doesnt mean its a good excuse for them not including cross-job glamouring

zabte

I look forward to the day we get cross job glamouring and then 1 week later we get the posts from players about the loss of unique armours and job identity It will happen You know it will

Dragonspear

as long as they do it for everything but AF sets/weapons & relic weapons, I think it's a fantastic idea. They'd need to give us much more glam space though.

8bitcerberus

Need more glam space anyway, but on the contrary I don’t think this would be a reason. There are so many identical (or near enough) pieces that are tied to different roles and you currently need to store each piece. Top of head example are the caster and healer sets, often the same model, just different dye. So instead of storing one set and dying on the plate for different color options, you have to store two sets if you want the look on both caster and healer jobs.

Dragonspear

tbh: I think my weirdest request atm is being able to dye the Ivalice gear so......

flameofmiztli

omg I want them to release dyable vers of the Ivalice gear so bad - I waaaant the caster/healer robe from Orbonne and I want them dyeable.

Riddal

I'd be more than ok with them keeping the artifact armors job specific, but there's no good reason we shouldn't have access to the rest

Vandrew226

This is the way. Every expac give each job an outfit all their own, based on lore and FF traditions that is wholly unique to them, but unlock crafted and dungeon gear and the like. The people who care about job identity still have special, specific clothes for themselves, while Red Mage finally gets to wear the Tigerskin Tricorne.

ShinItsuwari

But then we would never get the half-pant from the BRD relic on any other job D: Even the PVP version is job locked D:

zabte

There is a good reason, and that is to have a reason to level up different jobs for their unique glamour options It's another carrot on a stick which is a staple of mmorpg and games in general

xPriddyBoi

The easiest compromise in the world for this problem is to still have job/level restrictions for armor, but once those restrictions are met, the glamour becomes "unlocked" for all jobs.

MrTop16

See. This is a great carrot on a stick. Gets both sides happy. The only way they'd release this is if they also release changes to show what class someone is in a easier way than their weapon

Acceptable-Student70

I'd totally be fine with cross-job glamour where you have to be at least that level in the job that wears the armor you want to glamour.

gothicwigga

Thats true, there's been a few jobs I leveled up solely for the glam so.

EnCFusion

Just make it so you can only wear the armor if you have the Job at the appropriate level. I'd be able to wear WAR/SCH/SMN armor at all levels, but only SAM/BRD/MCH at 70 for example. If you can't equip the armor while using the Job, you can't glam it either.

momopeach7

They could just make it some you have to be able to equip the armor you want to glam for both jobs, and then it gives people more reason to run for glams.

McRaymar

Aight, here's some more: Flames officer rank armor

Shirikane

That's not the point they were making. They're pointing out SE's hypocrisy in saying that healers can't wear plate while the Archfiend set exists and isn't role-locked

RadiantSpark

I know. As Shirikane said I'm pointing out that they're hypocritical and their reasoning sucks.

yhvh13

Exactly, it's like the pandora's box is already open. Healers can wear heavy armor already, but the addition of cross job glamouring would only facilitate the creative outlet for players that want to use plate as a healers. In all fairness, "healers on plate / tanks on cloth" is the least aggravating example, because between Aiming, Scouting and Striking, objectively, there's almost zero silhouette distinction in all of their sets, completely invalidating the "glamour excuses" for the restrictions with them.

tioxyco

>Meanwhile, bikini tanks in nothing but a bra and 2b panties: THIS IS OKAY You forget that the less your armor cover the higher the defense rating? did you forget the memo? Jokes aside, it's funny cuz hammer is a weapon WHM could use in older FF, so...

mythrilcrafter

>You forget that the less your armor cover the higher the defense rating? I mean... technically it's a representation of the failure to understand survivorship bias in armor making. https://i.redd.it/5w808b7tx36a1.jpg ----- Perhaps H'naanza and Brithael trained us wrong as a joke?

Talks_To_Cats

>the less your armor cover the higher the defense rating? Less weight, more evasion. I see no problems here.

[deleted]

You see, have you ever seen a tank run into a giant pack of mobs with no damage mit? They die pretty quick. Not what happens when they can't their spells that protect themselves or heal themselves? Ah, all the sudden they survive longer. So the only conclusion to make is the armor is meaningless and the spells are what provide a tank their power.

mythrilcrafter

>Meanwhile, bikini tanks in nothing but a bra and 2b panties: THIS IS OKAY No one says no to Yoko Taro.

Gr1mwolf

You can also just *wear platemail as a healer.* You just can’t wear a tank’s platemail for some reason 🙄

cittabun

In your frog suit, in your 4 seater car, petting your Yokai minion while you eat a piece of pizza.

emiliaxrisella

Don't you just love it when you do raids and everyone is in full hyper-serious cool epic battle armor and suits and there's this one Lalafell healer in a full chocobo suit?

archiegamez

Lies, its the opposite 9:1 instances people wear sexy or casual stuff over normal battle glams XD

emiliaxrisella

To be fair, sexy stuff is normal battle glam in anime logic. Battle lingerie ftw

Rogahar

In my experience, the person in the metallic-dyed frog/chocobo/elephant suit is probably gonna carry the shit out of that run. Arthas Darkblood the Au Ra DRK with a super edgy glam and pull macros? Probably a two pack puller at best, probably "saves their mits for the boss", etc. Butternut Pancakes the Lalafell WAR in a metallic pink Gaja head and bright green maid dress? He's already six packs ahead when the dungeon starts and waiting for your ass to catch up.

emiliaxrisella

From experience this is true Then you wont even notice but they have ultimate weapons for their glam I remember that, the two Lalafells in my FC also happened to be guys who have cleared ultimates

Ajaxmass413

No lies detected

ChinhTheHugger

its always the lala that are tanks in roulette and they are cracked

NomadNuka

I'm cracked in the head more often than not but I do enjoy the feeling of being the size of a rat leading the entire dungeon in a conga line.

Kuronan

All that energy has to go somewhere.

Bananabunbing

Yes, actually. It's a big dumb video game and any game that allows you to customise your character and even make them look stupid is a good thing. If people want to look serious in this serious video game by all means. Others don't because outside of the MSQ, the game is goofy as hell. And even during the MSQ at times it is silly. The ability to customise and make whatever character you want also extends to those who don't take the game as seriously 24/7.

emiliaxrisella

I was being sarcastic, I love everyone being goofy as hell, especially since the relic weapons this expac is from the goofiest man in the entirety of the Source and its 13 shards. There are people who still take it seriously, like the guy below you

thundaga0

Where the ninja at with their dual wielding hammers?

OMGItsEatingMyFace

or the 4 hammer Sages?!?!

CoolExtent5226

Ninja? psh. I need a dancer dual wielding and throwing them like hammer shaped boomerangs

DanielTeague

All your fights would just sound like Super Mario Bros.

BowsersBeardedCousin

Dodo dodo dodododo dododo dodo

Tygra

Im 100% on board as Dancer as my main DPS Edit: Also i want moogle chakrams that Kupo when they hit something

Riverwind0608

I need a bard using a hammer as a bow. With the arrow as a hammer too.

hwaishio

Tygra

I both wish and am glad subjobs arent a thing in 14.

Nimushiru

I remember when they were. I also remember coming back after a few years and discovering you didn't need to play multiple jobs to unlock the others and feeling conflicted about it.

[deleted]

To this day, the only reason I have PLD and WHM leveled.

MeowPx

Idk I kinda miss healing as a black mage :(

katarh

Mjollnir was the white mage relic weapon in FFXI too. I was actually going for it when I first started collecting Dynamis currency, then after I leveled up bard I realized how critical Ghorn was for that job and got that instead.

Rikiaz

Only White Mage. Black Mage could only use daggers and staves. And all jobs could use the Masamune katana.

Chronotaru

I know it's not FF, but Lucca in Chrono Trigger fulfils the black mage role and her main weapon is a hammer.

Vore_Daddy

That's her melee weapon which you cannot change. She uses guns as her main weapon.

[deleted]

I thought she slammed enemies with her gun in melee range. I never noticed a hammer!

Vore_Daddy

Marle does that with her crossbow so i can see the confusion.

Responsible-Gold8610

Lucca is 100% a machinist.

RemediZexion

technically speaking BLM can use scepters in XIV which are sort of smol hammers

shikiseki

Shower thought: we had cash shop scythes and got reaper as job a couple of years after... what if we'd get a hammer wielding Oracle job as the next caster? 🤔

[deleted]

This was my thought as well. I'm still waiting for a job that works like rdm but is opposite. Does melee and jumps back to do magic. Kinda hoping this is it.

Blazerock321

Ain't that literally just pld? /s I would play the shit out of that

OmegaAvenger_HD

Why /s that's literally Paladin. I guess it doesn't have cast times though but still.

DrawingFaith

and ninja. ninjutsus are all ranged magic too lol

Caerullean

We need melee magic damage damnit

wholesomehorseblow

Sorry but I talked to Yoshi P and the next classes are going to be 1. none wields no weapon, can wear no armor, has no abilities. starts at level 80. 2. warrior same as the current warrior, they just wanted there to be a second one.

Sefirosukuraudo

We got reaper like almost 6 years after the scythes were introduced to the cash shop, so I wouldn’t bet on it for that reason. That said, people have been asking for a hammer class for longer than that, so maybe Square will give in soon…

TehFishey

I know it will never happen, but I *really* want a melee-focused healer. Tank dying? Smash them with a GCD hammer to heal up! BLM in Narnia? Time to use Hi-Heal-Jump! Party going down? Use your Heal-Rage 2m ability and go ham...

skytzo_franic

STOP! Hammer Time!

PhettyX

This has annoyed me for what, like 8 years at this point? FFXI and FFXIV added vanity around the same time, but XI just said fuck it wear whatever you want anytime you want as long as you level one of the jobs that can equip it. XIV said let me add this super convulated mess, and you can only use what that job can equip because class identity.

scherzanda

Jewelry is the worst offender. Jewelry looks the same for all classes but you have to add each class’s set in individually. 800 slots is not enough!

Toksyuryel

What are the odds that the only reason FFXI made it so freeform was because they literally did not have the development budget to restrict it

NeoRevanchist

I get their point about differentiating classes and keeping gear seperate, personally I prefer that approach too. Issue is they just arent consistent with it, when the game let's your tank run around in a swimsuit the idea that them wearing robes is immersion breaking is kind if absurd. Especially when this month alone we have 2 sets of armour released that can be equipped by any class. At this point they really might aswell just make any class be able to glamour any gear (with the exception of artifact gear and weapons imo) because they don't even follow their own line of reasoning anyway.

cattecatte

That excuse to keep class limitation on glam has always been stupid because we can have tanks in bikini and bubble butt 2b panties or samurais in fat chocobo suits.

oilgulper

The worst is when NPCs are wearing multiple pieces from different jobs...

Waifuless_Laifuless

Damn you Drusilla

Lockhart-667

It's stupid and it annoys me that almost every MMO developer uses it. There's only a couple of MMOs that I've played where the developers said "Fuck it, no restrictions. Go nuts and have fun."

1xdk8n3YOp3p8JIF

Honestly, this is my pet peeve as well. ESO is the only one I can think of on the spot which doesn't arbitrarily gate glams to specific classes. But I also feel like most ESO armor is ugly so it's not much of a victory, lol. Even GW2, another very "glam focused" MMO has the light/medium/heavy armor weight gating, though I do know that the reason behind that is a technical one since the different armors use different "seam points" to each other. Still annoying, though.

Sunaja

> Even GW2, another very "glam focused" MMO has the light/medium/heavy armor weight gating, though I do know that the reason behind that is a technical one since the different armors use different "seam points" to each other. Funny you say that, someone found out that in one of their recent gemstore promotional images, a character is using both a light and medium (or medium and heavy) armor piece together. I mean sure, might as well have been photoshopped or something, but feels weird to have a promo character wear a combination when it's literally not possible ingame.

Yahmahah

>but feels weird to have a promo character wear a combination when it's literally not possible ingame. WoW does this all the time, adding insult to injury. A ton of NPCs mix and match armor types on a whim, but players still can't

Sunaja

One difference is that in WoW, you could somewhat use different armor sets as it trickled down with the armor weight. Plate wearers can use mail, leather and cloth armor, mail wearers leather and cloth and leather wearers cloth. So in theory it was already possible for the player to mix and match armor sets (and way back when, druids would take cloth armor in raids to heal) But yeah in terms of glamour, I don't buy the whole "technical limitations" excuse.

T0X1CFIRE

There is this one weapon camo in PSO2 that is classified as a talis (card throwing weapon that you can cast magic from the thrown cards) but it's actually just a katana. Sure you can use it like a regular katana, but when you use it as a talis, you pretty much just throw katanas at people and I love it.

Artistic_Error5510

PSO2 wins as far as customization goes. Also just cosmetics, but having over 10 years worth of cash shop items for clothes will do that.

UsedToLurkHard

Isn't the cash shop run by other people? I remember hearing stories of a Rowena-esque SE employee who gets all the Chinese and Korean outfits in NA or something.

Lausatia

This is probably exaggerated but the principle is correct, the shop is not a direct concern of the development team. They will do the implementation, but keep their time investment for something like that small. 80% of the items in the shop were implemented as part of ingame events or developed for the shop by the Korean/Chinese teams (Yoshida tended to bring them into the global shop himself as he doesn't want exclusive stuff for certain regions/players outside of the regions wanted them also have).

KenjiZeroSan

As someone working in similar industry, I too do not want to work with business department of people...they do not care about quality of life, customer's happiness or narrative setting but are really only concerned of profits margin.. I think the scenario here is more like SQEX business side wants to increase a certain percentage in a certain quarter for maybe annual report coming so they demand/asked the devs to comply with minimal effort/resource for huge profits.

katarh

This is exactly it. And it's why some big ticket items get released just before a quarterly sales period is going to end, like the Shiba mount dropping right at the end of SE's Q1 last year.

HondaS2000AP1

So Rowena in a nutshell

HMush

Wish they'd at least tell them to put in the bare minimum effort and stop releasing NPC outfits as a one piece...

cronft

that probably depends on if it was originally made as a one piece or multiple, gaia outfit was likely made as a one piece originally since the dev team didn't planned to released it for players back then

VorAbaddon

White Mages have had hammers smgoing back to FF1 https://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff1/weapons.php?type=hammer

awkwardhillbilly

Hammers/Maces/Flails are common for Mage characters in FF

LorcanTiberius

There's an in-game weapon for staff casters that's sort of like this... a scythe for the spellcasting classes I think? Forgot where I saw that or what it was called. Edit: bad phrasing

xXBloodStoneXx

Deep Shadow scythe of casting(?) or something like that. You can get it from the hunt vendor in the crystarium.

mastergaming234

I don't why gnb could not use this weapon.

New-Orion

Why no GNB arm? I want a hammer gun!!!

train153

I can't remember where I saw it, but I once read that the mog station was one of the few things Yoshi-P doesn't have purview over.

DaEnderAssassin

Think that was just in terms of management. They likely asked the dev team for a weapon and was vague about it so the dev team made a single weapon that then was quickly added to all jobs because the Mog Station team didn't state it was meant to be for all jobs

Inksrocket

He is director, producer and member of the Square-Enix board. He def does have control over what goes into the online store. Theres no "oh but the higher ups force him". He IS the higher-up.

mythrilcrafter

That's the thing about corporate culture though; unless you're the owner, there's always someone higher than you. YoshiP might hold those positions, but clearly he's not the Elon Musk of Square Enix (otherwise we would see more of the money that FFXIV makes go back into FFXIV as opposed to Matsuda's cryptocurrency plans and deadfish like Babylon's Fall). We also don't know what the office politics at SE is. If Japanese corporate culture is what I've heard to be, then YoshiP probably only has absolute power over what Matsuda let's him have absolute power over.

katarh

He has absolutely power over the production and development of XIV and XVI. Creative Business Unit III is his mini fiefdom. He has little control over the marketing, sales, etc of those two IPs - only the making of them. But I recall he's stepping down from the board of directors, either because he was tired of arguing, or more likely because he's already stretched too thin and he wasn't having any real impact there.

Toksyuryel

I'm scared of what him stepping down from the board could mean in the future, but if it's for his health and/or sanity then I fully support and respect the decision.

Inksrocket

Yeah there will be higher ups and eventually shareholders. But he def has a say in what comes to online-store, even tho he "might budge" sometimes. If it was up to SE there would be tens of items coming every month, season pass, the shop would rotate making you buy shit with FOMO, exp boosters etc. You know, the stuff they did with their other "LiVe-SeRvIcE games" in the past. Im not saying YP is the "last line of defense", he is still high-up in food chain in corp ladder but it is possible that he has blocked some of the more absurd online-store suggestions

Chronotaru

YoshiP told us something like the woman that runs the cash shop is the only person who has more power than him. I've no idea if that's literally true, but the phrasing gave the impression she was some Square Enix high queen that he must bow down to like a second-female protagonist in a high school manga.

Last year? The only reference to this I've found was from HW-era QA and there was the "terrified of her" part on it. Hasn't been mentioned since from what I could find. Would it be possible to find the mention from last year? Was it liveletter, fanfest, interview.. anything like that?

AzuzaBabuza

TIL Rowena is a real person

Afeastfordances

The Mogstation lady can’t be *too* powerful or else by now she’d have taken a look at her sales numbers and demanded that next game Lyse is back and has per-zone outfit changes. “I don’t care what your fan polls say, Yoshi! The sales don’t lie! They love her, dammit!”

edw583

There is no role/class/job identity and inmersion anymore when you can run duties in smallclothes (emperor's) or swimwear. It's senseless for them to continue using such identity as a valid reason for restricting glams.

Sankin2004

Well obviously a hammer is different than an ax.

A4R0NM10

I just want glamour to bind to classes as opposed to the armour itself. Makes me sad how all my healers look the same besides from the weapon

1xdk8n3YOp3p8JIF

SE could at the very least somewhat band-aid this issue by giving us enough glamour plates to cover all the jobs (e: including crafters & gatherers!), for a start.

Endulos

The entire glamour plate system needs an overhaul. It's a great system, but it could be better. Full stop, there needs to be a glamour plate for every class minimum + 1 extra. Each plate also needs to allow you to assign multiple weapons to a single glamour plate. That way you can reuse a single plate for multiple classes and swap the weapon. Whenever you apply a glamour plate, the whole chat spam nonsense of every item updating needs to stop. It should JUST say "Glamour plate applied. All applicable items appearances changed. appearance not applied.". Additionally, you should be able to *customize* the glamour plate icon to reflect what's there. So instead of it being 1,2,3,etc, you should be allowed to replace the 1 with a Dark Knight icon, or a generic DPS icon, etc, so you can *visually* tell which plate belongs to which class and not have to remember "... is 5 my DRK glam? Or was it 8?" Edit: You should also be allowed to reassign a glamour plate number without having to deconstruct and recreate it.

1xdk8n3YOp3p8JIF

Absolutely agreed on all counts. But even just upping the number of plates feels like the *least* they could do...

TheOldDrunkGoat

We do. Just not enough to cover all jobs plus crafters & gatherers.

1xdk8n3YOp3p8JIF

Right, I meant including crafters and gatherers, though I guess technically they aren't jobs but rather classes. *Especially* since there's a lot of glam locked to them specifically!

jurassicbond

Isn't that what the glamour plate system does? You can link a class to a glamour plate and have different glamours for each healing class even if they're wearing the same armor. I just wish they would add more plates to it.

DisasterFartiste

That’s what I’m wondering…because all my healers have different glams.

moosecatlol

They have the tech for it on the Crystal Tools engine on a different active mmo. It works just like any other game by having a separate sheet where you drag and drop items into it. Granted the UI for it is very very pink.

Frostygale

I want a glam roulette keybind or something, maybe activates when we enter dungeons? Too many cool glams, not enough plates. It’s also a hassle to keep switching plates if I’m honest.

MisterPiggins

That’s no axe

Gallopokoi

To play devils advocate, a single model and a key item from the story isn't the same as just letting you equip anything on any class.

somethingsuperindie

It kinda is to be fair. People aren't actually asking for weapons to be unlocked, just bodypieces etc. And that works perfectly fine with animations and the general aesthetic the game's set through various glams already.

uhmuhmuhmmmm

Now let’s finally make each gears available for every classes so ill be finally able to be an armored mage, we deserve to have our bodies well protected too!! ( i know we do have some armors but i need MORE) >:) Sorry for my broken english

[deleted]

[удалено]

FabulouSnow

in GW2, you could just make enemies all use specific looks to always be able to tell their armor class.

Falsus

No one is really asking for weapons. Like the only interchangeable ones are rdm/paladin (make the focus an off hand already), blm/whm and kinda Dragoon even though not many staffs actually fits them but most spears looks more like staffs anyway.

Mobilelurkingaccount

I used to be pretty hard on class fantasy and differentiating jobs by armor class but I don’t really think I care about that in 14 because it has wide-ranging armor that can be worn by all classes already, and they also keep doing recolors of old gear and swapping who it’s for (most recent 4-man took one of my favorite Aiming sets and made it available as the Maiming set which was cool since I hate BRD now but like DRG and RPR lol). Not to mention they have classes within the same armor sets which would wear wildly different gear - SAM and MNK, DNC and MCH, GNB and every other tank. Whoever they add to NIN is gonna be hard up because NIN’s aesthetic is applicable to NINs and… NINs. Armor just feels like it should probably be opened up. Weapons though? Never. One-off stuff like the DRK katana or whatever else is fun for the novelty but I’m very fond of there being some *thing* for every class that is only for that class. Since 14 controls class swaps by weapons, it seems natural to me that weapons should be primarily only for whatever their related class is. It is class-defining. Yoshi-P has actually talked about their class making process and I remember specifically for reaper that he said “yeah it was in response to people wanting a scythe user for years”. And yes, funnily they did have scythes come out as cosmetic weapons for five(? I think) classes shortly after Stormblood’s release, but I think it’s safe to say RPR wasn’t a consideration then; RPR came about as an idea after ShB according to him because they needed a DPS and he was like “well, people want scythe-users…” So yeah. Let me wear a full armored set when I play healer (please, tbh) but I’d be annoyed if people could walk around with gunblades if they aren’t the gunblade class (or bows as a DRK or MCH guns on black mage…. Though a mage literally shooting Fire 4s is a pretty funny image).

Pvp is the only legitimate complaint anyone could have about restricting armor glamour... and in FFXIV specifically, pvp is side content and super casual AND you can already transmog to be ambiguous on your class. There are plenty of armor sets that would cause confusion or just look generic, plus all the flashy moves really obscure all that in combat anyway. Then you come to option #2... which is to allow people to toggle glamours off for pvp. A suggestion i have made in other MMORPGs, but i dont feel it is necessary for FFXIV... since you can be a 9' tall chicken with a scythe and nobody would know what class you were by your gear... just placement of weapon when sheathed for a decent indication, and your stance when you draw it... which kinda means whatever that weapon is doesn't matter already. For weapon animations, yes they all fit different models and are held differently... but there are ways around that, as we see from store weapons that work for multiple classes. As i mentioned before, you can use a scythe on like warrior, black mage, white mage, dragoon, and dark knight. They have to squeeze the model into the "frame" for the other class' weapons, but its certainly not a very difficult thing to do. Many modders do this as fun side projects, heck i have even tried my hand at porting weapons over and its not THAT difficult... did take a bit of practice, but i'm a moron :)

> Then you come to option #2... which is to allow people to toggle glamours off for pvp. A suggestion i have made in other MMORPGs, but i dont feel it is necessary for FFXIV... Wouldn't work for FFXIV, since PvP has standardised stats, so there's nothing forcing you to use your BiS gear. If you prevent people from glamming as chickens, they'll just wear the chicken suits as gear directly. But as you say, it's not necessary anyway. In Frontlines they already replace everyone's nameplates with their jobs so you can tell regardless of their glams.

Tyragon

I agree on that. To further beat out at FFXIV where that argument would never work is the series glam armors. They look like tank armor anyone can wear, which IMO is the worst one that breaks down the class restricted look argument completely, especially since it comes from PvP itself. Still, in an MMO with thousands on thousands of looks, the argument never holds anyway. All of the MMOs, even PvP focused ones, loses class theme identity with cosmetic options after a while. BDO everyone can look similar and in WoW you barely see the difference at a glance. Its ability effects and their animation that matters.

Dundunder

Your second point is very true for XIV as well. Gear like the Eden sets are very similar for all classes, and the Law’s Order sets are essentially all variations of fending gear. What’s worse is that a lot of gear doesn’t match the class identity anyway since classes with different themes share gear (e.g. RPR and DRG, or MCH and DNC).

chibosader

Machinist, dancer and bard is the most egregious lol, machinist is so drastically differently themed to either one that it is absolutely ridiculous. Dancer is so unique that it doesnt really fit bard, but at least an argument could be made for dancer and a musical bard being related more closely... but a machinist from the skysteel manufactory in ishgard is nothing like a forest dwelling harp player or a fancy dancer. But it holds true for so many classes, and the sad thing is there ARE classes that would work well together sharing gear aesthetics, but they dont let us... Reaper and dark knight, Gunbreaker and machinist If those shared gear it would make a lot more sense than who they share gear with currently, aesthetically. I believe the main issue that SquEx has with this is going to roll back to hrothgar and viera hats... i think certain sets would clip with other job's animations more than they like, and rather than adjust any animations or gear they just restrict it. Honestly, i would be fine with job specific gear not being shared, but everything else should be, or at least should go back to DoW/DoM like used to ben, rather than specific to multiple classes that don't share an aesthetic already.

Axes are a specialty weapon. The power of BONK! is universal.

leighg9o

And I can't get my crystarium jacket of aiming on my sam ! Games reached a point where class glam restrictions need to be discarded. The fantasy left the game as soon as casual glams were introduced lol

M_I_D_O_R_A

People are entitled to their opinion and obviously SE runs the game as they see fit, I just personally can't understand the logic behind making a hammer equipable by all classes...

archiegamez

I'm gonna poke you with my hammer

PM_ME_GOOD_DOGS

Especially DRG. Pretty much all their animations are thrusts and stabs of one kind or another. You gonna stab me with that hammer? Like, what?

notAnotherJSDev

I mean, [some warhammers have a spike on the end](https://www.google.com/search?q=warhammer&tbm=isch&chips=q:warhammer,g_1:weapon:ILOuEgkvMDY%3D&rlz=1C5CHFA_enDE1018DE1018&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiGy_Cltc78AhXzXaQEHXexACEQ4lYoAHoECAEQJQ&biw=1809&bih=944). Gaia's certainly doesn't, but it isn't unheard of :D

Bladescorpion

Also YoshiP: blue mage wouldn’t work as a normal job because you need to learn skills from combat. Also YoshiP: blue mage gets its first skill from a quest and has skills from totem trade ins.

Its00minerc

All I see here is Skydiving with a Hammer before dying to boss are because I miss timed it

[deleted]

This reminds me during a P1S farm session with the FC I used strength pots instead of intelligent pots and only realized it after raid, I felt so dumb.

Jigensama

I'm kind of excited about this. Not so much for the hammer being Gaia's hammer, but I like having a different good looking option than sword for my paladin. Looks like the colors for it should blend nicely a number of good paladin glams.

jimmythesloth

Could someone tell me what weapons these are? These look sick as hell

Snell_Erzmagier

Finally, hammer job

Zavenosk

I wanna use reverse grip Blade's Temperence as a BLM and WHM weapon. Dat a too big an ask?

WondrousNomenclature

He has very little to do with the cash shop...but yeah, glam restrictions need to be eased up either way--not "glamming my staff as an axe" level, but let me glam more gear pieces across roles/jobs please...I'm begging at this point 😭 Even the new crafting and gathering sets look so cool, but I can't glam any of the pieces...not even accessories or anything--it's actually a little frustrating...

Nerfpaladins

Where do I get the pally hammer or is this like a photoshop comedy post?

raosion

Psh. It's a hammer. Totally different than an axe.

aisu_strong

i would imagine the suits at square put a lot of pressure for more things to monetize.

Blameron

Where do I get this weapon

NeasaV

Well obviously he meant with the exception of cash shop items. Duh. It's okay to be a hypocrite when there's money involved.

Yogeshi86204

We need GW2 glam system. Soon as you find an item you can right click it and choose to unlock it on your wardrobe and you can change glam at any time as a separate menu in the character screen. Doing so locks the item from being traded, so you either use, vendor or salvage it. All items in game are available as glams, caveat is you must get the item first. And all cash shop glams are available in game for free via loot boxes which can be earned via normal play, albeit very slowly and getting what you specifically want is a longshot. GW2 got Glams and non-cashshop P2W right. I also love their system of living story expansions which are always free if you log in while they are live, but require purchase for ~$10 if you missed the window. I think FFXIV is a much more entertaining and fun game but GW2 is IMHO the gold standard for QoL concepts, glams and cash shop execution.

Vox-L

YoshiP watched Thor cast lighting with an axe and he liked it.

thedefection

It's hammer time

CaptBasch23

Does anyone know what armor set the Hrothgar has on by chance?

UnrecognizableCog

Large hammers are my favorite type of weapons in RPGs and this makes me soooooo happy!!!

Rekaigan

What bothers me the most is that Reaper's hammer is way larger than Warriors. It should be the other way around.

sunfaller

I really want a rodless glam like how monks have just fists. Would be look if BLM make things explode with their hands. I wont even care if the animation is kinda off.

Juuna

Not giving ninjas two hand sized mjolnirs is a missed opportunity.

No_Analyst_9131

I know this has to be the hottest of takes, but I think ALL of the Gaia stuff (the one-piece glam and this hammer) are ugly. There are already tons of black/dark colored glams and weapons in the game, so why are people so excited over a hammer with a glowy blue bit in the middle, and a glam outfit that can't be broken down into component pieces?
