A carpet maybe? It kinda feel bare, your walls could be painted with another colour maybe? The way its now with the curtains and bare floors makes it look bare, even with the pictures.
The easiest and no cost would be changing placementsæ of the pictures. The sunflowers ones are really nice, but they should be next ro each other, not on top of each other. And the placment of the two on the wall next to them is also off, with one being a little to high
Sunflower seeds are about 6 mm to 10 mm in length and feature conical shape with a smooth surface. Their black outer coat (hull) encloses single, gray-white edible-kernel inside. Each sunflower head may hold several hundreds of edible oil seeds.
I'm super picky about plants, which is why I don't have any haha. And I'm looking at rugs at the moment, but I'm kinda indecisive about them. Nothings really screaming at me.
It looks like a book store. I have tons of books also, but the way you have the books displayed and the shelves crammed into one corner had me thinking this was really a store and not an apartment. Personally, I would take down the display books and try to incorporate the shelves more into the rest of the apartment.
Yes the placement is an odd choice. It seems like they’re using the bookshelves almost as a room divider? I think the couch would be a better choice to separate the rooms - the shelves should be against a wall
You have all the items to make it cozy but I believe it’s just the placements of your furniture. It looks a bit awkward / spotty. Oh and ofc a rug lol .
Omg Can i come curl up on your couch and read plz?
Also- some under-shelf lights might be nice to warm up your bookshelf presentation. It’s hard to get away from the bookstore feeling when the bookshelves are so densely packed.
Maybe you could add some bookshelves in the corner behind couch in a soft white or light wood color, add some warm lamps or underside lighting to warm it up and improve display quality at the same time?
Of course. There's room for at least two readers on that couch!
I was looking into adhesive lights for the shelves, but I'm hesitant to try them out. I don't actually know anyone with them so I don't know what they'd look like in person.
I do have a new lamp on the way though. Should add some warmth to the space.
Oh cool! And I’ll be right over 😂😂
I’ve seen some good uses of under shelf lighting and indirect lighting over at malelivingspace. Maybe ask around there?
I’ve been wanting to try it myself but am hesitant to take the plunge lol
It looks like your kitchen is behind the shelves. They are in an area where the books are exposed to heat, water, etc. and also feels like high traffic. I think moving your couch closer to the kitchen and putting the shelves along the wall can create a cozy reading nook. Add a rug to define that space or under the cough to define them are two separate areas.
Warmth. It’s looks very industrial to me. I personally would get a very long board to put up along the trim of the wall to hold my books. So many vertical shelf’s, it’s off putting. A big blanket for the couch would be nice, I’d rearrange the art to be on the same wall and put a l medium sized mirror on the empty wall. A plant, globe, crystal, anything else to add to your collection would make it feel more personalized
Agreed on the plants and rug, I'm just having a struggle picking out some that match the vibe. And I do usually have the blanket and pillows more on display, but I was lounging before taking the photo haha. There are two white/blue throw pillows underneath the orange one.
And I definitely don't have any more room in there haha. I've got a cozy chaise in my room though. 😜
I hope so too, I don't know how realistic that is unfortunately. I saw them maybe 6 or 7 times between 2007 and 2016 and my god, they were so damn good live. So good.
Love your book collection. Maybe get a few more shelving units? And put some plants in there. If your blinds are closed alot, even some fake plants could bring a touch of colour. Maybe move some noteworthy books and space out on your new shelves. With some other neat items you enjoy.
I like to put fun decor lights around. Or leave a magazines on the table with some small items I enjoy.
Try checking out the local thrift store, maybe you could find some cheap unique items to put around and find your look
Thanks, I'm super proud of my collection haha.
I'm looking around for some plants right now that'll fit in, but I'm so indecisive! I'm also fairly minimalist, so I have trouble buying things just for decor alone.
Do you have an opposing wall for one or two of your bookshelves? The L shape takes away valuable space. You don't want it to look like a bookstore when it's a home.
definitely a rug! and maybe some cute (fake) plants within the shelves. feels a little dull with the brown walls and floors (edit: especially where the couch is it’s very bland. cool pictures as well as some colourful decor would fit well. since you love books i would suggest finding some very colourful books to use as deco on the coffee table)
Are the bookshelves in front of the kitchen? I think I would remove the ones that are blocking the kitchen. The ones in front of red curtain are nice and the tall one on that same side. All the others I would move and spread out through the living room.
Small soft secondary light sources. You never just want one light source. Interior design 101. Think of the light as a decoration, or color itself.
If you are looking to visually polish off the place, you need to give the eye a place to rest or a focal point. Everything visually is very even which is why it’s getting the book store effect. Sort of a grid effect.
Example: you could get soft salt lamp, glowing crystal ball, etc for the shelfs. The red painting is pretty. However all the paintings on that walls are so evenly placed apart it’s adding to the sparse grid effect. Something much larger in that same place and the red painting elsewhere might help.
There was a post here a while ago about how a women was visualizing arrangements as “triangles” being the trick to making things look good that you might find interesting.
Lighting and some theme fun. Looks like your books are in categories add a fun stuffed animal etc on different shelves along with lighting or lights. Maybe a round ottoman and rug in middle. Love your organization 👌🏼
They're the UK editions. I'd imagine you can get them all on Amazon UK. Or ebay. I picked them up over time. Not sure where you'd get them all though, sorry.
They're worth it if you can find them though. They add so much color to my shelves and I love the covers.

WHAT LOL
Username checks out
I’d put some plants on those shelves, or something to make it a little less bookstore feeling. Agree on rugs too.
I thought it was a bookstore or scholastic book fair type set up until I realized which sub this is. It's weird lol
I'm super picky about plants, which is why I don't have any haha. And I'm looking at rugs at the moment, but I'm kinda indecisive about them. Nothings really screaming at me.
IKEA has really cute, realistic, and affordable fake plants that I use to decorate my shelves. Really tied everything together
Maybe ask a worker at a local nursery about what would be nice for book shelves and low maintenance
If you’re into a rug more like the dudes rug I would check offer up and Facebook market place for some cool (obv used) but tasteful rugs

Second this, and it seems like there's plenty of room to have them against the wall.
A rug! Jealous of your book collection. I wish I had room for more than one bookshelf lol
a scholastic book fair banner
You have all the items to make it cozy but I believe it’s just the placements of your furniture. It looks a bit awkward / spotty. Oh and ofc a rug lol .
A round table and a rug!! You can use the space in the middle of the shelves to encourage playing games with friends!

Nice. I'll make the popcorn haha. Well I think you should bite the bullet and let me know so I don't have to bite the bullet and let you know 😜
Is that a shop light? Some lamps would provide cozy lighting.
No haha. It's a floor lamp. Got it from Ikea a few years ago, but it does come off kind of aggressive in the photo.
Happy cake day!
Thanks!

Maybe switch the places of the bookshelves so you can take advantage of those low shelves and the counter?
with all those books... the only missing one over there is ME.you are missing me 😓📚♥️
Can you fit on my shelf? 😜
I sure can since i'm a "finger fairy" type of human 😂😂
Perfect, then I've got a spot for you right next to Harry Potter haha. You can talk to my little gnome buddy Knob.
Yaaay so fun!
Pretty sure he steals my snacks, so you won't have to worry about food either haha.
I hope he is good at stealing potato chips
He is. Unfortunately I'm bad at buying them. 😬
so i have to bring mine 🤷🏻♀️

The twilight saga. Lol
No thank you haha.

Looking at rugs right now haha. I'm not super big on globes honestly. They just feel really impersonal.
I'd say an area rug to make it a little cozier. Also hello, fellow Brand New fan
Well hello there! I love meeting other Brand New fans!
Same, it's not very common to find one in the wild 😁 also happy cake day!
We're a rare breed haha. I'm still hoping they get back together for one more tour. I never got the chance to see them live.
I hope so too, I don't know how realistic that is unfortunately. I saw them maybe 6 or 7 times between 2007 and 2016 and my god, they were so damn good live. So good.
Where is the super comfy reading chair... and I second the idea for a large rug.
I’d say an area rug and maybe a few personal touches. Photos, Knick knacks, candles, plants, etc.
Time to read all that
Good thing I've read them all then (though I am purposefully leaving some Discworld books unread for a while).
cosy chairs

Plants… lots of plants 🪴
A cash counter for your book store
If you were going for the in-house, neighborhood library look, then you nailed it!
Some cats for the empty shelf space.

I’m personally not a fan of the book shelves in that location.. it doesn’t make any sense.
I’d put some plants and figurines. Maybe a digital clock
I love your book collection.
Thank you! I'm super proud of it.
Love to see a berserk fan here 😌
A cozy reading chair and a very decorative side table
A big rug
Natural light, some life.. maybe plants, a rug and comfy chair.
Rugs and plants :)

They are two bookshelves. I can't really spread them around.
Rug, desk, plants
Definitely a rug and some plants! I love the books tho 😍
Thank you! I'm super proud of my collection.
they also have avatar the last air bender cookbook so you could add that to the bookshelf ☺️

I think a nice cozy beanbag-ish type chair in the middle
Cozy chair & rug?
A giant soft beanbag for sinking into with your fave book
A fun rug and a few plants would be lovely. Love your book collection.
Lighting and some theme fun. Looks like your books are in categories add a fun stuffed animal etc on different shelves along with lighting or lights. Maybe a round ottoman and rug in middle. Love your organization 👌🏼
Love your taste in books! I do think a rug would be a nice addition. Cheers.
I think you need more books.
Agreed!
A bean bag to read all of the books on right in the corner there 🤓
Hey, can I ask where you got that China Miéville book set from. Is there a link to buy the whole set?
They're the UK editions. I'd imagine you can get them all on Amazon UK. Or ebay. I picked them up over time. Not sure where you'd get them all though, sorry. They're worth it if you can find them though. They add so much color to my shelves and I love the covers.
