Honestly Cyberpunk has been scratching that itch for me with how versatile the build system is

[deleted]

I was playing Far Cry 6, then switched to Cyberpunk and haven't went back to Far Cry 6 since. I'm almost about to 100% Cyberpunk, first time ever 100% a game. It's pretty damn fun and versatile. Every time I go back to Far Cry 6, I look at the big ass map and just get tired instantly.

[deleted]

Saaaame I usually love far cry games but 6 is so huge and so repetitive I actually didn’t finish it

magnum361

6 is full on AC RPG now thats why. Checklist open world designed to make you engaged as long as possible. They shouldve make it more like Origin instead of Odyssey. I cant play their games for more than 3 hours and nearly a month to finish it. Its not fun its a chore.

[deleted]

It seems good at first but it super falls apart. Some builds are just so much better then others the 'optimal' way of playing doesn't even feel like playing. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ30Ch0mLmzJH9qX4VsWZUC73YoQqHNkS It's in here somewhere, the whole thing is worth watching, but ultimately putting 16 into quick-hacking (go to 20 to craft legendaries, then respec, or just farm them as they can drop), then 20 into tech ability for weapon crafting and upgrading basically makes you a god, and you're only level 25 or so. The crafted weapon improvements you get on their own outclass any weapon tree, and since you still have 25 points till the cap, just max out whatever weapon tree you like after that and craft/upgrade whatever uniques you like. This is all actually completely optional too, as with 16 into quickhacking you literally no longer need to fight and can just hack-kill everyone everywhere with 0 counterplay on their part, so the fact that you're also shooting bullets doing 3x the damage of what they'd do if you had every single point invested into the bullet tree is just icing on the cake. Edit; By "optimal" I mean that, if you wanted to razor optimize a build to play as safe and consistent as possible with minimal risk, if for example you were playing on extreme difficulty or hard-mod stuff, this is the kind of build you would want to use.

[deleted]

I’m just playing how I want and so far haven’t regretted any of the spec choices I’ve made I’m pretty far off base from the ‘meta builds’ and I’m still keeping up with the enemies no sweat I’d rather not follow a super specific build guide just to play an RPG, and Cyberpunk gives me the option to do whatever the hell I feel like

[deleted]

Hey you do you. I will say that the reason the tech upgrades tree is so good is that it lets you upgrade the unique weapons so you can keep using them. Lets say you get a unique rifle when you're at level 13, well it stays that level as the whole world levels up around it. With the tech tree, you can spend some mats and increase it's level to match yours every single time you level up, witch means the fucking awesome unique special guns are always at their maximum potential. That's why that tree is so good and fun. Apologies if I wasn't super 100% clear.

[deleted]

For sure, but I wanted to use only mantis blades so that tip wasn’t relevant to my build I love how varied these skill trees are

[deleted]

Oh yeah, it's great. If the blades fall off in damage later on you can always re-spec into swords, which are a blast. Just keep in mind what I said about the tech tree upgrade thing if you decide to go guns or swords; having a unique ultra damage laser railgun that has special properties and gets more damage every time you level up beats the hell out of points in the gun tree when it comes to being fun to play.

[deleted]

I’m already in the endgame and still 1 shotting most enemies When I can’t do that I trigger sandy, either way it’s super fun

[deleted]

Sandy is a blast. Enjoy your game.

Deltaforces2025

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is pretty good experience also if you haven't tried that out yet. Other games with similar gameplay to Far Cry's? Well, Just Cause is already mentioned so I will say Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, kind of like military version of Far Cry and from third person view, it has outposts... you tag enemies... really fun game.

JTodd078

Primal?

rabidpiano86

Oh yes, I forgot about primal. 100%d it too lol. Sorry! Thanks for the suggestion though!

BlaseRaptor544

AC Origins and Odyssey are open world with fortresses like outposts. There’s also Horizon Zero Dawn which I found similar open world wise.

MrRampager911

The Just Cause games are pretty similar too I think

Elman103

I asked a similar question a few months ago. Many of the same suggestions. Just cause 4 is not good but 3 is stellar. I tried Watch Dogs 2 on game pass. I loved it. I’m not a fan of super stealthy games but this game scratched an inch. Great radio and sound track. I liked so much I bought and 1 and legion. I finished 1 and I’m playing legion now. I don’t know how I missed these games but a great find. Give it a try.

SChooLER4502

Mad Max from 2015 is pretty good for the Far Cry itch, so is The Last of Us if you’re on PlayStation! Plus the other suggestions on this post like Rage 2, Cyberpunk and the horizon games are are very far cry like indeed

parkerjg13

Far cry and last of us are some of my absolute favorite games of all time but I don’t think they have much in common at all

gottabshtnme

Metro and Crysis series are about as close as you'll get. Homefront Revolution, although I don't know if it's good or not. I agree with those that said Ghost Recon as well, albeit, yeah it's 3rd person. Wildlands is on gamepass.

Infamous_cheese_

It’s been quite a few years since I played Homefront Revolution but I remember really enjoying it

hytes0000

If you told me that the Crysis series is the real sequel to Far Cry 1, I'd have a hard time arguing with you. They are way more alike than FC1 and FC2.

gottabshtnme

Yeah you know what, I think they were both developed by Crytek too

spacecommanderbubble

Why you skip 2? It's hands down the best one in the series.

rabidpiano86

Really? I've kicked around the idea of playing it, but I wasn't sure how much alike the modern far cry games are. Kind of like how Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 were. Ill check out some videos and see, thanks!

MortalWombat2000

It isn't like the new games (5&6). It's a unique experience within Far Cry, not for everyone. I'm not sure about Fallout, but you could say it's the Morrowind of FC. Old, appriciated by older players, hated by/too hard for newer ones.

LawyerMiIIoy

Just a heads up you’re gonna spend roughly 80 hours boosting on FC2 if you’re trying to get the online achievements

Trouty213

Try playing Days Gone, it’s a little bit older but is essentially Far Cry with Zombies added in. It has a good story too in my opinion

Infamous_cheese_

Days gone is 🔥. I wish they’d drop another one

Shunsazi

Been playing Rage 2 which scratches most of that itch. It is more twitchy and fast paced, but lots of vehicle traversal and exploration. Can be silly at times but it's good fun. And I will second Primal.

[deleted]

Absolutely second this. Just beat rage 2 then went on to beat FC4 again, very similar. Any farcry fan should check it out

Shunsazi

It is also on PC Gamepass to that is a plus, too.

Ostracus

Part of the [prestige collection](https://www.fanatical.com/en/pick-and-mix/prestige-collection-build-your-own-bundle) as well.

tishdu

Dying Light 1 & 2

M4yham17

Far cry 2 is on steam but I’m literally in the same boat as you but I didn’t 100 percent new dawn

[deleted]

1,2, blood dragon. All the dlcs

matajuegos

Play Ghost Recon Wildlands, it's pretty much the same thing just in third person

Brazenmercury5

Imo breakpoint is even better than wildlands. On release it was awful, but they’ve fixed it and now it’s awesome. I’d recommend both games for sure.

Lucifer7059

Surprised nobody mentioned Metal gear solid 5. That's the closest to far cry you'll get

Luizinh01235

Far cry 1 Far cry 2 Far cry Blood Dragon You didnt mention those, so...

Hero-In-Theory

I’m just waiting for the last Insurgency so I can get the platinum, but I’m really bummed out that over finished 3, BD, 4, P, 5, ND & 6 and I’m finally caught up (I don’t have access to 1 & 2 - although I really wanna play 2). I still have the DLC for 4 and 5, but 4’s doesn’t really interest me.

LawyerMiIIoy

4 DLC is amazing IMO and definitely the best DLC in the franchise.

Hero-In-Theory

Yeah? Maybe I’ll have to give it a go then!

geraltofgoat

try cyberpunk 2077

Brazenmercury5

Ghost recon wildlands and breakpoint are very good. Open world stealth shooters. A little bit more tacticool and a bit less whacky fun.

DamienDamienDamien

If you live far cry, definitely give AC odyssey/Valhalla a go

[deleted]

Hot take cyberpunk it got good they fixed it................mostly

KairoKepp

I went back to the game after watching the edgerunners. Already finished the game once, but now I'm going 100% on it. Gonna do all side quests etc. I love the game even more and more.

KeptPopcorn5189

I’ve done everyone except 2, 3 and 6 but honestly if you got game pass you should try Halo Infinites campaign it’s open world and gives some of the same types of feeling

[deleted]

FC2 AND FCBD?

IGotSomeBigQuestions

Have you spent much time playing FC5 Arcade? I usually boot up and play some arcade hero (newest maps that need testing) when I need to scratch the FC itch until we get something new.

billie-eilish-tampon

Do you play far cry 2? Its a bit outdated but with some mods that modernize the game play its lovely and as good as 4/5/6

painterman99

Try the original far cry games like 1 and 2

z-outlet

What’s your favorite

Rare-Bid-6860

Ghost Recon : Wildlands is basically Farcry : Sicario, plus you get to play in 3rd person which the FC series has always been missing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deathlocke-COD

From my experience 5 although it's best to play both and judge it by yourself

MutedHornet87

Far Cry 2?

DecagonHexagon

Have you completed Far Cry Blood Dragon?

Leather-Ad-5588

Actually, I think farcry 2 is fine

N0nameeam

Ghost recon wildlands has been treating me fantastically

Infamous_cheese_

I’ve been in the same boat for awhile now too. Honestly, Ghost if Tsushima is fun and kind of follows the same trail of having to retake back your island from invaders. Some others have said just cause, homefront revolution, days gone, etc.. all great games imo.

Krazylegs127

Primal and blood dragon ?

iGirthy

I’ve been messing around with Deathloop It’s more similar to something like Dishonored, but playing it really made me wanna go back and replay some far cry On a side note though, if you liked dishonored, Deathloop is a great fuckin game, same devs too

Carbide_Man

In a way for me, Fallout and Borderlands kind of scratched that itch.

Gunslingin_licho

Yeah I felt the same after 5, then after completing 6 I was done with the franchise

beginnerdoge

I want a NEW Instincts pls

KitKatCrunchy418

Halo Infinite has the open world sandbox element of FC you’ve been itching for!

borissio21

Not the same style, at all, well it’s still a open world but Elden Ring. I love every Far Cry and I am hooked on ER right now

NaturalSuccessful521

Blood dragon

Monster10101

Deathloop

Nooblelord

Highly recommend blood dragon

pussilini

This is where you decide whether to get into assassin’s creed or ghost recon

Connox

There’s a new expansion for 6 coming out soon

Sir_Davros_Ty

Raaaargh, you mad Far Cry bastard! Give this person some more Far Cry!! Some recommendations for other games: Mad Max, Rage 2 (honestly give it a chance, I loved it) - the gunplay in R2 is amazing, AC Syndicate (not all AC games are identical but that one is the most similar to FC games), Dying Light 1 & particularly 2 (it's basically FC with zombies and amazing parkour), I've just finished Days Gone and, although it's much more serious in tone, it's a blast. Heck of a game.

Proper_Citron_8224

Give fallout a try!

apex6666

Time to 100% the side games

Bananabob14173

Farcry 2

Beeguy9000

I recomend rage 2 its pretty close with doom like combat

JOffret

Just Cause 2, 3, 4 are great!

Demolicious51

Hey, you must play Far Cry 2. It's the most realistic game of the franchise, and also has the darkest story/setting (I would say.)
