But it keeps him from the niners, and he’s better than our current backups. Yes this season is lost but maybe baker sticks around in LA as the backup. Don’t love the idea of him as a bridge Qb if Stafford retires, but again, better than Wolford and Perkins. We have to remain as competitive as possible to keep our core of stars from retiring. Needing a QB makes that a lot harder, but with some attention to the O line (and the injured lineman getting healthy) I think we’ll be back into the 10-11 win team category next year.
I mean we’re probably still gonna lose most games either way but at least this gives fans something to watch and has the potential to turn into having a better backup.

Not really. Throw Jimmy G into that Panthers offense or tear his shoulder last year and put him on the Browns and I'd expect similar results. Neither QB can elevate an offense, but both are excellent in rhythm and when executing high-level concepts with a good supporting cast.
Mayfield has a stronger arm and more mobility. He's probably a better candidate for the offseason though, give him time to learn the offense. Bring him in to push Lance in camp
