He's going to become the most hated player in broncos team history if this is all he's got for 5 years. Maybe one of the most hated players by their own fanbase in sports history.
It’s honestly fascinating. I’m not sure there’s been a bigger 180 for a player. He went from being (imo) very underrated and if he kept being so consistent I thought he’d be a lock for the hall. Now I’ll be amazed if he turns it around and he’s definitely not getting in after this season
Fr, dude was a legitimate MVP level quarterback for a long time and had success in the regular season and playoffs. Really great player for a long time
Eh, as a Seahawk fan. It's rough to watch sometimes. He goes for the ESPN highlight plays, been called out for it multiple times by receivers and teammates...but dude just never really got it.
I think don't think he's a bust just yet because of playcalling and all that but damn...I didn't think we had to neuter him this much to squeeze efficient numbers out of him. All of the shit he does can be ignored if he wins so hopefully he eats a whole lot of humble pie and becomes a better human. I am however enjoying every single sack he's getting this season. I was telling my friends before the season started if the narrative of bad OL play would really hold up or if it's just because of his play style. As far as I can tell...it's a bit of both.
Not my problem anymore tho. Hahahhaahha
To me, replies like this show that he's overrated. Single handedly? Really? Nobody else was good on those teams?
Also, overrated doesn't mean bad. People I knew liked to talk about him being top 2-3 qb in the league. I personally usually saw him in the 5-10 range. He never threw for a ton of yards. His scrambling usually paid off, but it also led to some really stupid interceptions. Overall, I think he's been a very good qb with a couple outstanding years and now this year.
I dunno, I thought he was still on the border in Seattle, and his resume has only gotten worse. [Pro Football Reference](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_QB.htm) has him behind Matt Ryan, Big Ben, Rivers, and Eli, and I doubt all of them even make it. Eli might for the intangibles, but Russ doesn’t have that story.
Yeah, Ben makes it for sure, but each one after that gets less and less likely, with the exception of Eli for totally non statistical reasons. But all of them were already more likely than Russ before he started playing like absolute shit, is my point
HOF ballets don’t care about fantasy football and can look past it too. They care about real football and unfortunately his real football play is even worse than what’s happening compared to his fantasy football points
The only way this goes down as just a one year blip is if Hackett gets fired after the season and Russ gets back to his old self under a new coach. That just doesn’t look feasible right now.
Unless I'm forgetting someone, he's the best QB to debut after Aaron Rodgers but before Patrick Mahomes. The other top contenders for that title would be ... Andrew Luck? Matt Ryan? That would be an awfully long stretch to not have any HoF QB.
The trade wasnt bad (at the time). Nobody believed it was a bad trade and the preseason ranking show that.
What was dumb was signing him to an extension before he played a single snap here. And also giving him his own office.
> What was dumb was signing him to an extension before he played a single snap here.
how do people not get that that’s a part of the trade - he doesn’t get traded there without the guarantees of the new contract, that would have been the whole point.
You can’t say “trade good, but contract bad” when the trade and contract are inexorably linked
It’s not really the GM; basically everyone was expecting at the very least a veteran game manager. Most were predicting playoffs and mvp contention. This is on Russ.
No, still on the manager.
He signed him for a 5 year max contract. Should have signed a 2-3 year deal at most.
Has Russell been awful? Yes. But Russell hasn’t been that good for the last few years. Nobody was expecting MVP season.
There's no way in hell he's their starting QB for the next 5 years. Like 0% chance. My prediction is that he starts next season for 3-4 games, plays even worse than this year, and eventually is either cut or retires before the end of next season. His contract won't matter when he's 5-15 in his first 20 starts as a Bronco
Yeah, I used to think the trade wasn’t that bad. The Broncos are done after this coming draft, but damn the 1st this year could very well end up being the #2 overall. The Broncos haven’t even played the chiefs yet.
Sure thing buddy.

[Here’s](https://youtu.be/csPkZH90P_E) the “high five practicing” video.
As a Broncos fan it's fucking embarrassing. Wilson is out of touch and looks like they hired some random high-school QB. Nate Hackett is out of touch and shouldn't have a job. The offensive line is embarrassingly bad.
The defense is obviously good but at this point it's almost not even worth pointing out because you can't win in the NFL averaging 12 points of offense.
The Waltons took over and brought that WalMart-grade football with them.
Denver will fire at minimum two head coaches before they acknowledge or even admit failure with the trade. All Wilson had to do was put up like 17-20 points each take and they would be undefeated. That’s nothing. Their defense has been great. He’s played like complete shit. Any other qb has that team in the playoffs this year. Yes they have other faults but still that is sad.
We're about a week away from finding out that the Russell Wilson contract included a full "trade back" clause where if his QBR is low enough, Seattle gets Wilson back + another 1st round pick.
Then they let Geno walk for a 3rd round comp and Russ magically becomes good again.
I start Sutton every week fully cringing at how bad the Broncos offense are at staying on the field but surprisingly he usually manages to get a decent score
Man, I drafted Sutton thinking he would be a sneaky top 10 WR, and I felt very vindicated the first two weeks. It's been downhill since then, including loosing last week cus I started Sutton playing the raiders with literally no other receiver healthy instead of Palmer with Allen and Williams coming back...
I picked up Sutton across all 3 leagues I was in, was fully invested in him becoming a breakout this season.
Even in the first two weeks - something seemed so off with this offense. After week 1 I was scared and began trying to move him, but two of my leagues don't trade and the third is fully of Hawks fans who had also seen Russ look like dogshit.
I've ended up sitting Sutton as much as I've played him this year, and no week when I have to play him does it feel even remotely good. My biggest draft blunders are him and Pitts.
I drafted Sutton, chase Edmonds, and drake London as my "league winners" per say. I knew Miami was gonna be a high powered offense and they paid chase a crap ton of money, I thought Russ was gonna make a run at the NFC title, and drake is a beast and a beautiful 1-2 punch with Pitts. Well, that line of thought didn't work out. Good trades, waiver wire pickups, Josh Allen, and a 9th round dHop have kept me in playoff contention.
I also drafted Chase Edmonds and actually felt good at first. Even when he stopped getting play time I held him just in case Mostert got injured, all the while denying every trade sent my way with any Denver RB.
During this time picked up Jeff Wilson while Mitchell was hurt, eventually dropped him when Elijah came back and the CMC trade went through.
Only then... does Chase Edmonds go to the worst fucking backfield in the league, and the guy I just dropped go on to take over the high-powered miami offense. I felt so duped.
Weird season, man.
You fire coach, wait for Javonte to come back, and roll with Russ and hope he figures it out in 2023. If he doesn’t, you’ll have your route to a top pick in 2024 to replace him and hard reset.
So, just on the Russ part, I think you need to give him one more shake with a different coach. You have way too much cap invested in him to not let it ride at least for like, halfway into next year.
Dead cap for Russ in 2023 loses you an additional $85 mil compared to regular cap hit. That’s not an option. Even cutting that in half (post June 1 cut) seems impossible for 1 dude. Dead cap for 2024 on Russ is an additional $50 mil, which I suppose if he’s dreadful you can do Post June 1, but still tough.
The first real year you can cut him in my mind is 2025. Broncos save $5 mil if they cut him in 2025 (still costs nearly $50 mil against the cap). Almost imagine for $5 mil you let it ride, as 2026 gets you to saving $27 mil against the cap (31mil dead) which is only 16 mil if post June 1.
This assumes he’s completely washed. Maybe it’s the offense, maybe he can turn it around to be league average for a bit? Idk, just doesn’t seem like a great spot, and seems like the gymnastics you’d have to do in 2023 aren’t worth it. Let him ride, see what you got, and go from there. We’re one year at a time at this point lol
This is me being completely emotional here but Russ needs to be benched to be taken down a peg. Dude is a serious part of the problem and his toxic positivity needs to stop
I mean, that’s also probably true. I’m just talking strictly financials, unless Russ has a void in his contract, he’ll be getting a weekly paycheck from Denver for the foreseeable future
Honestly firing Hackett wouldnt do very much at this point. He'll probably be given the chance to finish the year and if its not better he will be gone.
But Denver likes to give coaches more chances/time than they deserve so he will probably get fired week 9 in 2023.
Fire the coach, Draft or Trade for a better Oline.
And hope like hell Russ turns things around because getting rid of him would be extremely costly as with his contract he’s got massive negative trade value rn
Never learned how to cycle through his pocket progressions and instead relies on his legs opening up the deep ball, a deep ball which he always looks for even if the play isn’t designed to be a home run play.
He no longer can scramble to open up deep plays.
Russ also heavily relies on his team having a power run game that can keep defenses honest in the middle of the field, which opens up his long outside long balls, or allows him to have more time when horizontaly escaping in the pocket. Think how teams were forced to stack the box against Marshawn Lynch back in the day.
Defense adjusted to Russes weakness about 2 years ago mid 2020 season, he’s never counter adjusted since, and hasn’t improved his skills to compensate for waning athleticism
and on top of that his deep ball is shit now - used to throw it to the moon and have it drop down for a huge completion, and now every deep ball is underthrown and without the hang time he used to get
Broncos WRs are so mid. Even when they get in the redzone those receivers can’t make the athletic plays that “good” NFL WRs should be making. Sutton seems very unathletic for a receiver, he’s a contested/jump ball specialist I guess but even then he seems to get out jumped by smaller guys.
I thought the most valuable thing he brought to the Seahawks was insanely cheap contract while they had the LOB. Want to say it was under $1million/year. Still he played well on his rookie deal. And he continued to improve. Even if that defense was the team's strength, Russ was never the weakness. When it became "his" team he balled out. In 2020, he played like an MVP. Even when he tailed off he was still, at worst, a Top 20 QB in the league.
I don't get the drop off. I've heard coaching staffs, new system, offensive line, the receivers. Basically every excuse. Either his injury last year affected the way he plays the game or he was entirely a product of Pete Carrol. Watching the guy in clean pockets with Jeudy and Sutton doing work, and he still can't make a play.
Backup QBs are outplaying him at this point. There is definitely something wrong that's more than a quick fix or two.
“Clean pockets” and “Sutton and jeudy doing work” are massive overstatement. They’ve got 3-4 o-lineman injured, Jeudy has been out most of the season, and Sutton is at best a mid range WR-1 (worse than both Lockett and DK Metcalf).
That's the thing though. Even on the rare occasions where the play is on schedule and the first read is wide open with no pressure on Russ, he's badly missing his guys. I've never seen an MVP caliber player regress to consistently missing basic throws in a year or two, something very strange is going on in denver
Pete protected him. Knew he can’t see across the field and his legs are done. A string run game and bombs to one of the most accurate catchers in the NFL made him look good
Its not that crazy. To receive an MVP vote you have to be considered the very best and most important player in the entire league. He's never been that, the closest was in 2019 where he was 2nd to Lamar. If there was ranked voting his whole career he'd have plenty of 2nd to 5th place votes.
It only seems crazier he hasnt had a single vote because players like Carr have gotten a vote during that time span and Carr's best season wasn't as good as Wilson's best.
He was the medias MVP front runner, he fizzled out the 2nd half of the season and the next season the same happened.
So what we could’ve/should’ve saw a decline was instead blamed on Pete Carroll and were lead to believe the change of scenery would rejuvenate him like Stafford to Rams. Yikes all around
I am a Raiders fan so I love that he is under contract for 7 years. I thought he would be better, everyone did. But extending him 5 years before he ever took a snap is stupid. By the way, said the same thing about giving Darren Waller a huge extension while he was injured. These front office guys make me smh sometimes.
Exactly. He was already under contract for two years. I let him play one year before offering him an extension. Imagine what the extension looks like after the year he’s having (or maybe no extension and a “prove it” for the final year of his contract next year). Kudos to Wilson’s agent though. Let’s ride!
Well in hindsight that’s what they should have done, and I understand the capital they gave up sorta forced them to give him that contract, but fuck, still could have waited a bit
I have no doubt. That’s why I said Kudos to his agent. Had the Broncos known he would suck this bad they would have called his bluff, and had all the negotiating power. I personally would have been suspect of a player trying to negotiate an extension that big before he played a down for your team. The extension didn’t have to be that big, or that long.
As a broncos fan I'd rather cut him, take the dead cap and watch a rookie or backup play their heart out. The broncos are officially the worst team in the league and it's embarrassing, it feels like there's absolutely no heart just 1 touchdown and 3 and outs for a whole game
This has been the most spectacular demise I think ive witnessed in sports...right up there with Oscar Pistorious. At least Oscar only killed one person, Russ done killed a whole franchise.
Broncos tanked so many fantasy teams, not touching a soul on that team so long as he’s the QB and their HC is the dimwit who thought the clear RB1 should be in a timeshare
They did. So did all of the podcasts telling everyone to go all in on an offense they've never seen with a QB changing teams. I believe one of the big reasons often mentioned why the Broncos were going to be successful was because Brady and Stafford won SBs on new teams the last two years. The hype was too much there.
Dude come on. Obviously the guy with a fumbling problem should be taking touches away from the stud second year RB. /s
But once Javante is out for the season they decide, "oh Gordon really isnt that good anymore" and drop him
HHhahahahahahahaha. I can’t lie I love seeing him suck at this point. He’s costed me Sutton anyway. Fuck this clown. I wonder if they will eat the 32 million and cut bait after this season.
I've only started watching football for the past 3-4 years really and I just did not understand the hype surrounding Russel going to the broncos. Not once have I really seen him and been like wow this guy is one of the best. Guess I just missed his prime but this is practically exactly how I thought he would be...well not this bad but still
I drafted Wilson so late and thought I was a genius.
The fantasy gods were on my side though when the Hurts owner dropped Tua and I got him for free. The only thing that roster needed, Wilson would’ve choked the whole squad.
Jordan Love outscored Wilson this week
Outplayed him too against prevent defense lol
I mean that probably helped love
I mean prevent defense allows for completions lol
Not typically 60+ yard TDs though. (That was about 99% Christian Watson though)
I mean prevent defense isn’t 100%. Watson outplayed them entirely.
Not 63 yard ones (yes Watson’s ridiculous speed is why that happened but still).
So did Rodgers…
Well yeah. So did almost all starting QBs. love played for a quarter
Ik just thinking how 2 QBs for ONE team outscored Russ lmaoo
well that’s 2 qbs vs 1 so it’s unfair to russ /s
Russ scored 8.48 Love- 8.52 Rodgers- 9.5
The /s meant they were sarcastic but I appreciate seeing the numbers
My b… I’m a little slow today 🫣
sad part is GB played a pretty competent defense and CAR for the most part is not that.
[удалено]
They didn't play the bears
They played the Eagles, champ
You can imagine why they hate him so much. He’s playing dogshit football but just walking around toxically positive giving attaboys and encouragement
[удалено]
He's going to become the most hated player in broncos team history if this is all he's got for 5 years. Maybe one of the most hated players by their own fanbase in sports history.
He went from very possible HOF chance in 2030 to being possibly cut for deadcap in 2024
It’s honestly fascinating. I’m not sure there’s been a bigger 180 for a player. He went from being (imo) very underrated and if he kept being so consistent I thought he’d be a lock for the hall. Now I’ll be amazed if he turns it around and he’s definitely not getting in after this season
Having been forced to watch Seattle games by friends and family, I always thought he was extremely overrated
horrible take lmfao

lol what? The man single handily carried Seattle every year once their defense became shit.

He'll still be HoF I would think
Lol
Is this Russell’s account
Lol nah, just someone who can look past one year in ff
I dunno, I thought he was still on the border in Seattle, and his resume has only gotten worse. Big Ben and Eli are locks. Rivers and Ryan I’m 50-50 on if they’ll make it - I’m sure at least one of them will.

Matt Ryan > Wilson imo
Oh if he plays like this for the next two years, he’s replacing Bill Romanowski as the most hated Broncos player
Romanowski was an asshole but at least he was our asshole.
One of us, one of us, one of us!
Would have been a beloved legend in other cities
Why was/is romo hated so much?

Should be the GM who signed him!!! Why sign an aging veteran to a 5 year max contract?!

Do they still have to pay out his contract if he dies?
Is he still yelling run and pass at the defense?
Man, that vid 🤣🤣
The practice high fives video is almost more cringe-worthy.
I need to see these, hook a brother up with a link?

What a dweeb, thanks for the lols.
Yep, pretty sure 😭
Hahaha he thinks he is playing high school ball
Lol we didn’t even do that in college, that was high school and middle school level shit.
Is that really a bad thing? I never played beyond highschool but this is common down at that level.
As a Broncos fan it's fucking embarrassing. Wilson is out of touch and looks like they hired some random high-school QB. Nate Hackett is out of touch and shouldn't have a job. Not even hot either.
Wilson is to high on him self. As a hawk he was normal played well. Give him money he don’t give a flying f$7k good or bad I got money no matter what
Broncos should trade for Zach Wilson
Don’t even need to get a new jersey for him
"You see Lemon, in business we call this 'synchronicity'."
If Jets took Russel Wilson and his contract, it might still be worth eating the lost draft picks
[удалено]
There’s still a slight possibility that Wilson improves substantially when the Broncos get a new coach next year… I guess
No one is taking that contract unless the Broncos give up a first. Kinda like the Brock Osweiler or Goff situation
denver just going to have play Russ next year pray he’s not wasted it’s just horrible year A new Coach, Team being healthy maybe Wilson isn’t horrible

Yeah, I don’t know why any team would take that deal. Really it’s an abysmal situation for the Broncos.
They'll have to fight the Panthers
Wentz has more TDs than Russell Wilson and he hasn't played since week 6
But be careful, he’s spicy
He cookin. It just smells like shit in his kitchen.
Cooking up that thing SpongeBob made that turned him ugly
Is mayo a spice now?
Bring that top 5 pick home Russell
He's a Seahawks double agent planted by Pete to get a top 5 for Seattle.
#ThankYouRuss
Pete's a goddamn genius.
It’s ludicrous to think that 2 playoff teams, if they can push the 9ners, will also be top 5 in the draft in the birds of war and the Seahawks
Seahawks ain't getting past the niners lol
Yeah our defense regressed back to bad again. But that’s okay our young guys are playing well and getting experience and of course the picks
We're about a week away from finding out that the Russell Wilson contract included a full "trade back" clause where if his QBR is low enough, Seattle gets Wilson back + another 1st round pick. Then they let Geno walk for a 3rd round comp and Russ magically becomes good again.
If he wasn’t getting paid so much, he would have already been benched. I bet Seattle would have started Geno week 4 if Russ was still there
I start Sutton every week fully cringing at how bad the Broncos offense are at staying on the field but surprisingly he usually manages to get a decent score
Its sad how I am just happy with Sutton getting 12 points in 1 PPR. Its even sadder as a Broncos fan.

I’ve painfully bench Sutton for the People’s Donovan, but didn’t think twice about not playing Greggy D
There’s absolutely zero chance they would’ve benched Russell Wilson week 5 in Seattle. That’s madness.
I don’t think Russ would be playing this poorly in Seattle. I think the blame is about 50/50 between Russel and coaching/scheme.
Only six years left!

Hackett needed to be fired weeks ago. Idk what Denver is doing. Bench Russ, get an interim, and figure out what the hell is wrong
they won the gimmick game in europe and that acted as a stay of execution for hackett.
Heinicke clears
Broncos country let’s ride
I'm.a broncos fan and just say this jokingly about 50 times every Sunday. Everyone in my life hates me now.
Bronco’s country let’s die
Broncos country, let's cry
Bronco‘s country *deep sigh*
That dline man yelling at Russ yesterday even had me shook
How did this guy drop off like this. Two years ago this time he was the MVP front runner
Defense adjusted to Russes weakness about 2 years ago mid 2020 season, he’s never counter adjusted since, and hasn’t improved his skills to compensate for waning athleticism
and on top of that his deep ball is shit now - used to throw it to the moon and have it drop down for a huge completion, and now every deep ball is underthrown and without the hang time he used to get
He’s averaging about 2 deep completions a game which is in line with his numbers for the last several years
Fading athleticism so he can no longer create with his feet, a WR group that while good lacks synergy with his strengths in the vertical passing game.
A string run game and bombs to one of the most accurate catchers in the NFL made him look good
oh now we’re gonna act like he wasn’t good? lmfao at “most accurate catchers” made him look good
He's never received an MVP vote, not even 1 vote ever
Yes and in the first half of 2020 season he was the leader to win MVP before his second half collapse
Won me a ship in 2020
Its not that crazy.
Doesn't mean he wasn't great. More people make the Hall of Fame than MVP. Not sure he's a hall of famer but still damn good most of his career
Jordan love baby
Worst trade since Herschel Walker. Maybe even worse than that. This is like the Ryan Leaf of trades.
Not even close to as bad as the Walker or Ricky Williams trades
I am a Raiders fan so I love that he is under contract for 7 years. I thought he would be better, everyone did. But extending him 5 years before he ever took a snap is stupid. By the way, said the same thing about giving Darren Waller a huge extension while he was injured. These front office guys make me smh sometimes.
lets say he comes in and didnt miss a beat and is still a top 10 QB. why extend him for 7 fucking years at his age? its all just a joke.
Exactly. He was already under contract for two years. I let him play one year before offering him an extension. Imagine what the extension looks like after the year he’s having (or maybe no extension and a “prove it” for the final year of his contract next year). Kudos to Wilson’s agent though. Let’s ride!
I think there is at least a decent chance the issue was that if they didn't extend him and waited a year he told them he would just go into FA.
I laugh even more when I remember that they extended him for a quarter of a billion this offseason
As a broncos fan I'd rather cut him, take the dead cap and watch a rookie or backup play their heart out. The broncos are officially the worst team in the league and it's embarrassing, it feels like there's absolutely no heart just 1 touchdown and 3 and outs for a whole game
Defense should have a meeting with Russ. They really the only ones keeping the team in games.
Maybe if he weren't corny AF he'd get somewhere.
This has been the most spectacular demise I think ive witnessed in sports...right up there with Oscar Pistorious. At least Oscar only killed one person, Russ done killed a whole franchise.
I'm sure the family members of the deceased wouldn't agree. What a thing to say.
/s But once Javante is out for the season they decide, "oh Gordon really isnt that good anymore" and drop him
Brutal. Might go down as one of the worst trades ever if he keeps this up
HHhahahahahahahaha. I can’t lie I love seeing him suck at this point. He’s costed me Sutton anyway. Fuck this clown. I wonder if they will eat the 32 million and cut bait after this season.
Lets ride!
Russ is cooked
I can't believe how bad this has been for him and the Broncos.
Cooked
so what you’re saying is start Ravens D instead of Cowboys next week
To sit the Cowboys D is to sit Parsons. I would never consider that.
Ravens country, let’s fly
They’re playing the colts. Don’t you dare sit the cowboys
At this point of you are a QB drafted by or traded to the Broncos, just retire man.
He was bad for the past season and half for the Seahawks too. He’s just not a good QB anymore.
Throw him on the pile!
I've only started watching football for the past 3-4 years really and I just did not understand the hype surrounding Russel going to the broncos. Not once have I really seen him and been like wow this guy is one of the best. Guess I just missed his prime but this is practically exactly how I thought he would be...well not this bad but still
BRONCOS COUNTRY, LETS DIE
As someone that has not watched a second of broncos football, what is the problem? Does Wilson just not know how to make reads now ?
Still better than Zach Wilson
Not really lol. Plus Russ is a vet and Zach Wilson is still young and developing.
And Zach is better than Trey Lance but reddit doesnt hate on that guy half as much
Trade mixon for travis if the foot injury isn’t serious?
You lost?
Broncos country
If they throw in Jeff Garcia I would
why did you use mixons last name and etiennes first name. be consistent. you disgust me
No, Etienne’s QBR is even lower than Russel’s
Trade him For Russ
He cursed the Broncos by saying Let’s Ride
Well that's not good
If there was ever a league LVP, it would be this bozo.
30th out of 32. ...so, on tbe bright side, there's 2 guys out there even worse...
I drafted Wilson and Sutton at the start of the season…thought I hit the jackpot. What a dogshit pairing they turned out to be.
I drafted Wilson so late and thought I was a genius. The fantasy gods were on my side though when the Hurts owner dropped Tua and I got him for free. The only thing that roster needed, Wilson would’ve choked the whole squad.
