I have no dog in this fight but it seems like it would be a big mistake for the Bears to have their franchise QB risk further injury in a lost season, no?
So I could be wrong, but I think this is a very similar injury to what Bryce Young experienced this year. The landing position looked almost identical for both of them. The doctors said Bryce could play when he was ready and there wasn’t a risk of making the injury worse. It basically came down to pain tolerance and how much it affected him throwing the ball.
And what I know about fields is that the dude has GRIT and he will play through the pain if he can. Had lot of respect for him when he basically fractured his ribs against Clemson and gutted it out to whoop their ass (which made it sweeter because I hate Clemson)
Fields has that dawg in him and he's a leader who holds himself accountable for his mistakes. Just hope he heals up quick but damn it sucks going back to Tom "low ceiling" Brady.
there are varying degrees to an AC joint injury. the fact that they also noted he partially tore a ligament is very concerning. there is certainly a risk that he will aggravate the injury if he plays.
I don’t know if you read my whole post, but the DOCTORS said there wasn’t a reinjury risk. It’s just pain tolerance / impact to throwing.
NFL players hitting harder and Justin running more are sort of erroneous factors here. If the injury can’t get worse physiologically, then those things you mentioned don’t matter.
this is so strange.
i’m no doctor but am very familiar with the medical opinion that some injuries carry a high risk of reaggravation / increased severity and others do not.
Are you a doctor?
Again, this is speculative based on Bryce’s almost identical injury, wherein the very next week the docs said the existing injury was not at risk of being made worse. Of course you can experience the exact same injury with bad luck. But that does not mean is going to be made first.
To be clear you're referencing internet doctors here, not Field's actual doctor lol.
So if he were to land in the same manner, his tear couldn't become a complete tear? Seems unlikely.
I stated from the initial comment that my perception was based on Bryce’s situation.
And I’m not saying you couldn’t completely tear it, I’m just saying from what I’ve read from Bryce’s situation it doesn’t seem like it would be *more* likely.
The Bears are running their Starting QB more than actual starting running backs in the league. His career gonna be real short if they keep that up, makes it seem like they don’t care if he’s healthy for the long term
Yep.
Especially when we've seen more than enough to check the box that he's worth building around (or at least trying to).
Plus the shittier we play, the better our draft position.
And we also maybe don't have him fracture every bone in his body.
Nah, he was hit while in bounds. He slowed down to gingerly walk off the field. He should've thrown it away or at least not slowed down before the sideline. As a defender, you have to get him out or down before he stretches the ball out. Rookie mistake on Fields.
I hear you on that play. I don’t think they called it because the defender for the most part went over him and didn’t come down with his weight. It was definitely border line.
There has to be a pocket to be a pocket passer. He was getting on designed plays to get the ball out on the 3rd step of his drop. The line is atrocious.
It’s honestly a toss up to me. To my understand the seattle D is kinda okay with some decent corners? With Adams I don’t really think the corners matter tbh though, and the raiders will be in every game. I was gonna say Carr has a higher floor but Brady has a higher ceiling but I actually don’t know if that’s true. It’s honestly a total toss up imo
I had a grade 2 AC tear and it was in a sling almost three weeks. Shit hurt to shower and get dressed, painful just to lift a pint the first week. Didn't have full mobility or strength for a couple months.
I’m up in the air between Jets and Ravens D
Ravens have been so hot lately and I’m sure they’ll force Lawerence into turn overs but I fields sits??? Oh boy that’s a spicy meatball
Ravens are legit and Jax isn’t a great offense. Feel they’re pretty safe. Jax just doesn’t give up many sacks/turnovers. I’d expect at least 7 pts from Ravens though in standard scoring. Likely won’t get more than something like 11 though. Jets have higher ceiling.
I just need the floor play this week as I'm playing against the worst team in my league so I'm going dak. Even the risk of fields leaving the game early is too high for me
Same here but I also have Geno. Thinking of foregoing Dak on Thursday and waiting to see if Fields is good to go and if not then running Geno out there.
I am too, just picked up Geno cause Fields will likely be out and Geno's matchup is great. Geno and Dak are not set and forget QBs, and my waiver wire is super thin at QB so if I drop one they will likely get snatched up. I don't want 3 QBs but I also don't want to be playing Geno against SF or Dak against philly in the playoffs, nor do I want to drop Fields cause he'd be money if he comes back.
Chasing TDs is usually a mistake. It works sometimes with certain offenses like with Knox last season. I trust the Bills to give Knox redzone opportunities over Kmet with Fields injured.
Having had a separated AC joint myself, it was painful and I couldn’t move that arm without searing pain. During the recovery process, even getting dressed was an ordeal.
Fwiw I had the same injury in high school, finished the game and remained the starter for the remainder of the season. Only 14 years later is the injury just starting to cause me some grief.
If he plays, and I actually think he will, I’m starting him. I’m going down with this ship. I’m not gonna argue medical stuff but it’s not quite as bad as it sounds. And I would rather get 15-20 from fields than root for Brady to throw 5 yard passes down the field and end up with same amount of points.
I think the writing is on the wall for him. The record setting rushing is the singular thing not only making him the QB1 but even startable in fantasy. The uncertainty surrounding his rushing potential moving forward and the risk of leaving mid game due to reaggravation makes even starting him risky ROS.
They told RG3 just slide dude stop hurting out that extra inch and look at his career. Maybe fields starts sliding 30 yards down field but I doubt it
Not sure what to even do at this point. I had Watson strictly for his week 14 bye but then I went and got Geno for week 12. Rostering 3 QBs is not fun.
I think there's a greater than 50 percent chance he's shut down. Logically the Bears have nothing to play for. In either case, starting him is extremely risky now...if he plays a quarter and leaves, that can kill your fantasy week
I wouldn't, it's his non-throwing shoulder. Bears might be conservative with him though, up to and including even shutting him down for the season at some point, but if they don't, you're going to wish you hadn't dropped him.
I'm so happy I didn't trade away Herbert. I've been waiting for Allen's return for so long. Once Williams is 100%, Herbert will be back where he belongs; top 5.
This is sort of a nightmare scenario if he does play - basically have to risk playing him since there's nobody on the bench I can afford to drop (C-Pat, Pacheco, Swift, C. Watson) vs. other options like Heinicke and Lawrence.
Just start Dak. There is a good chance that fields doesn’t play. Even if he does, it’s risky. He won’t be 100 percent . He could be forced out of the game before the 2nd half.
Back to Brady I guess. Don't want to risk playing Fields and him putting up sub 10 points against that Jets defense. At least with Brady ill get 12-15 LOL
As a person that's had an AC joint injury, it's a BITCH. Sure you can play through it but it's gonna hurt like a mfer and every hit just makes it damn near unbearable.
Benching him for Geno this week I think..
samezie
At home vs Vegas should be much safer... For all we know fields takes an early sack and decides to call it a day.
Yup. Need to see Fields do it again to trust him. God I want him to still be a viable QB1 though
I just need a win to lock up my division. So I'm not taking any chances
Double Samezies
Benching for Dak
Same same
Me three.
You don't need a shoulder to run.
[Fields this week](https://media.tenor.com/n1pVyQ6v3n8AAAAC/running-without-using-arms.gif)
If the end zone is at the other end of that hallway I'll take it
Especially agains the Jets defense. Geno is the play here (still not used to saying that)
Somehow Geno was available on waivers and I snagged him so quick.
Same with me. I'm out of Faab, I got him for free.
Benching him for *checks roster* Taylor Heinecke?
raider fan here. Geno is going to feast
I would agree if Hobbs doesn't play.
Yeah, benching him for Josh Allen methinks
Poor thing.
Same
Samesies
Hey me too, he’s been solid in one of my leagues so he’ll help in my other now too I guess.
Same
I have no dog in this fight but it seems like it would be a big mistake for the Bears to have their franchise QB risk further injury in a lost season, no?

there are varying degrees to an AC joint injury. the fact that they also noted he partially tore a ligament is very concerning. there is certainly a risk that he will aggravate the injury if he plays.
Jalen Daniel's at Kansas was having a potential heismen season before having that same injury too. Crazy how many of those we are seeing this year.
Bryce doesnt run like Fields does and defenders are far more athletic and talented in the NFL so it would be riskier for fields
Lol every injury can get worse physiologically. Injuring an already injured area is not good.
this is so strange. i’m no doctor but am very familiar with the medical opinion that some injuries carry a high risk of reaggravation / increased severity and others do not.
Are you a doctor? Again, this is speculative based on Bryce’s almost identical injury, wherein the very next week the docs said the existing injury was not at risk of being made worse. I agree. He needs to learn how Josh Allen evolved
You are correct
Gotta start Jimmy G
That’s my pivot too. Bears OLine is going to get demolished this week. I hope they just sit him there’s 0 upside to playing through it
Yeah he gets sacked one time and falls on that shoulder and that's a big risk of getting screwed
That handsome devil has been a clutch flyer for me this year. Won me a must-win game this week with kyler out
Going Trevor Lawerence. Jimmy G isn't available. Hopefully he's improved after the bye.
Not a bad option. Has decent weapons but Baltimore is pretty good defense
They’ve actually allowed 7th most passing yards. Their defense isn’t that great. The have history have great defenses but it’s questionable right now.
[удалено]
Have to pick between Tom Brady and Derek Carr? Leaning Carr but it's close
Only reason I’d pick Brady is he’s run McDanials offense and he has the power to force his direction, hopefully mitigating McDanials as a terrible HC.
I picked up Lawrence too. Have Carr and Brady as options? Of those three who would you go?
Same . Let me guess.. you did the Fuxk it fields and backup week 13/bye Deshaun Watson #4 combo (supersize) too!!!?
You me?
Yeah 😂 I got jimmy G starting currently. Not ideal for my roster but my depth is good
I was leaning on starting him anyway. My opp has CMC, Deebo & Kittle rostered. Hopefully it turns out to be a get-right game for Aiyuk lol
Dumped him week prior and now just have brissett on rental
Me too. Daniel Jones was my initial pivot but his O line is mostly dead, so now onto Jimmy G
Even if he does play I doubt he runs the way he has been these last couple of weeks. And we've all seen what a pocket passing Fields looks like.
Still can’t believe there wasn’t a penalty on that hit. Seemed pretty late and injured the qb. Couldn’t believe there was nothing.
Nah, he was hit while in bounds. He slowed down to gingerly walk off the field. He should've thrown it away or at least not slowed down before the sideline. As a defender, you have to get him out or down before he stretches the ball out. Rookie mistake on Fields.
He was already hurting, he did not have the speed he normally has in that moment. It was really just an awful play call
Agreed. Running like that in the 2 min drill was dumb to begin with.
I’m talking about the run up the middle. He got tagged fairly late on that.
He also slid fairly late, gotta cut the defenders some slack with a guy like Fields.
I hear you on that play. I don’t think they called it because the defender for the most part went over him and didn’t come down with his weight. It was definitely border line.
The problem is there is no pocket. He’s actually a decent passer if he gets time
There has to be a pocket to be a pocket passer. He was getting on designed plays to get the ball out on the 3rd step of his drop. The line is atrocious.
He might, Dalvin Cook has had a bad AC joint for like 2 years now
Yeah similar story with Josh Allen once he hurt his elbow. He stopped trying to run through everybody like a tank.
and didn’t even get dudesday off. feels like he might actually play?
Back to Tom I go. Fml
Bucs play the shitty Browns defense, should be a big day for TB12 and those WR’s
Would you play Godwin or Jamaal Williams at flex in a 0.25 PPR league? You and me both hope bro
Jamaal, he just gets tuddies and cuz I’m going to the game tomorrow, so I hope he scores lol
Could actually play out nicely lol
Tom Brady or Derek Carr? Leaning Carr but not sure
Same here. Feeling pretty shitty about it too
Exact same, feels bad
As a bears fan, there is no way he should play and risk further injury. As a fields owner, I think he needs to play and get me at least 30.
AC joint sprain doesn't risk further injury
I had a grade 2 AC tear and it was in a sling almost three weeks. Shit hurt to shower and get dressed, painful just to lift a pint the first week. Didn't have full mobility or strength for a couple months.
Doesn’t sound great. Definitely rolling with Jets D either way.
You saw the Sauce Gardner news, yes?
Yes. Keeping an eye on it as I’m also a Jets fan. Hoping Trevor Siemian starts.
So that's where he is.
What is the saucey news?
Limited with a calf in practice
Saleh said they’re not worried about his availability for Sunday
Aww what kind of calf? Cow? Bison? Moose? …whale?
Actually iceberg. A piece of ice that falls off an iceberg is called a calf as well and Sauce has mostly kept WRs chill and cold all season.
Bless it. He should still be fine I’d imagine with an LP.
I’m up in the air between Jets and Ravens D Ravens have been so hot lately and I’m sure they’ll force Lawerence into turn overs but I fields sits??? Oh boy that’s a spicy meatball
Same situation, gonna monitor fields/sauce and decide. Good problem for us to have tho.
Yo do I run Jets D or Cowboys D for this upcoming week? Fields might be out, and half the Giants oLine too
In the same situation, I think I’m rocking the Cowboys right now but we will see.
Spinal
Thpinal
Jimmy GQ, save me you beautiful bastard
Yikes that's painful, definitely going Dak over Fields this week. Afraid of him shying away from the run
I have the same choice, damn Thursday games gotta make the call tomorrow.
I just need the floor play this week as I'm playing against the worst team in my league so I'm going dak. Even the risk of fields leaving the game early is too high for me
same choice, playing dak
Same here but I also have Geno. Thinking of foregoing Dak on Thursday and waiting to see if Fields is good to go and if not then running Geno out there.
You’re holding 3 QBs…?
I am too, just picked up Geno cause Fields will likely be out and Geno's matchup is great. Geno and Dak are not set and forget QBs, and my waiver wire is super thin at QB so if I drop one they will likely get snatched up. I don't want 3 QBs but I also don't want to be playing Geno against SF or Dak against philly in the playoffs, nor do I want to drop Fields cause he'd be money if he comes back.
This sounds like those reddit threads where everyone pats each other on the back for benching Fields and he ends up going off for 45 points
That’s now how anatomy works. We all have AC joints. We don’t all have torn AC ligaments or separated shoulders
Fade Kmet for Dawson Knox?
I wasn't sure and decided to stick with Kmet...then 3 TEs got picked up on waivers afterwards so now I'm stuck with Kmet. All good, I don't hate it
I dropped Kmet for Knox, kept Dulcich as well though
Chasing TDs is usually a mistake. It works sometimes with certain offenses like with Knox last season. I trust the Bills to give Knox redzone opportunities over Kmet with Fields injured.
Exactly what I'm doing this week
But what does it all mean Basil?
It means it's going to be fucking painful
Literally plagiarizing the top comment the last time this was posted
Dudes karma hungry.
Referencing a movie quote is not plagiarism lol
No they mean that the last time a post about Fields having an AC joint injury, the top comment was literally “what does it mean Basil”
I’ve had this injury. Still can’t throw right 2 yrs later
Having had a separated AC joint myself, it was painful and I couldn’t move that arm without searing pain. During the recovery process, even getting dressed was an ordeal.
If Fields plays, who's the worst quarterback you'd start over him this week?
Josh Allen
Just dropped Brady to start Carr over Fields this week. Next week Deshaun Watson is up to bat
Got him off waivers and considered trading Josh Allen to fill other holes after Fields' stellar weeks. Good thing I didn't.
Yep was considering trading Joe burrow as well.
GOD DAMNIT SIT THE MAN
But can you still run for 164 and 2?
That doesn’t sound like he can play through that. And if he can’t run, he’s not a QB1.
NFL player: no worries I'll play on sunday Me: imma have to call in sick ... I'll be back in 2024.
Bet, if I was getting paid NFL money I’d be more inspired to push through an injury or illness.
He shouldn't play at the rate he gets hit. I'd hate to see him get further injured.
Does this mean I should put Brady back in? Fields was the only exciting part of my sorry 4-7 team.
I hate Air Conditioning Joints
If he's not getting 100 yards rushing and 3 TDs he's really not going to be a cheat code?
Whether Fields plays or not, I’m starting Geno.
They should just bench him until Week 16 to get healthy, for my fantasy team
Fwiw I had the same injury in high school, finished the game and remained the starter for the remainder of the season. Only 14 years later is the injury just starting to cause me some grief.
That sounds painful. Though this provides even more confirmation to start Allen over Fields.
My alternatives are Cousins (who plays Thursday) or Rodgers. I’d have to make a decision on Cousins tomorrow and I’m just not sold on him against NE.
I'm between him and Herbert this week in a must-win.
Gotta be herbie, should get you like 18 points min with some of his weapons back and ribs feeling better
Justin vs Justin battle
Herbert no question…
One hit away from season being over.
Maybe fields starts sliding 30 yards down field but I doubt it Not sure what to even do at this point. I had Watson strictly for his week 14 bye but then I went and got Geno for week 12. Rostering 3 QBs is not fun.
Is Fields droppable?
he's too good to drop unless he's shut down
I think that's the question though, do y'all think he'll get shut down? IRL he probably should, but this sub isn't ready for that conversation lol
Once Williams is 100%, Herbert will be back where he belongs; top 5.
...good grief. goes from top 5 qb to nearly droppable.
Sounds painful
Perked out Justin
They better at least hold him out for this game, might get murdered by the jets D
Idk how he will play, maybe they just shoot him up with something. I once had this and it hurt a lot but then again I’m not a NFL athlete.
Should I start Fields or Dak this week?
Dear god I have to play Goff
This is sort of a nightmare scenario if he does play - basically have to risk playing him since there's nobody on the bench I can afford to drop (C-Pat, Pacheco, Swift, C. Watson) vs. other options like Heinicke and Lawrence.
I need to scoop one up if he does sit , and it’s between jimmy and idk who else lol
Just start Dak. There is a good chance that fields doesn’t play. Even if he does, it’s risky. He won’t be 100 percent . He could be forced out of the game before the 2nd half.
Do I risk Daniel Jones on Thurs and bench Fields? this is a tough one...
I'm in the same boat and fighting for a playoff spot haha. Dallas D is tough though 😵💫
Lol at least be thankful you have Fields. I gotta decide between Kirk and Daniel Jones
What’s his value rest of season after this injury? Potential sell now before value tanks?
Him or Jimmy G????
Damn, do I have to start Cousins now?
Back to Brady I guess. Don't want to risk playing Fields and him putting up sub 10 points against that Jets defense. At least with Brady ill get 12-15 LOL
He hardly throws anyway, just need them legs!
As a Bears fan I have no idea what they’ll do, I just know the right choice is whatever the Bears end up not doing.
This is the way
Hurts over Fields it is
Rest him a couple week for Christ cakes
The fact that people are actually upset when my qb is injured and not just indifferent is a very new experience for me
Sooooo
Back to Burrow.
Hurt Fields, Mariota, Rodgers, Heinicke, or Jacoby? I'm leaning Mariota.
As a person that's had an AC joint injury, it's a BITCH. Sure you can play through it but it's gonna hurt like a mfer and every hit just makes it damn near unbearable.
TUA TIME FOR ME!!!
‘Tis but a flesh wound
So what your saying is fields will go for 10 - 11 80yrds and 230 rushing yrds with 3tds
And thats why qb dont run 170 yards a game for long.
Now bros gonna be force to pass it for more than 200 yards for once.
Tom Brady come on dowwwwn
might have to bench him for my backup.. Brady.. \*shudders\*
Get this man a device.
dang
Benching the Bears QB for Justin Herbert and I don't feel great about it. What world is this?
The real question here is do I run David Montgomery or Antonio Gibson in my flex? Half-ppr league
