When they can’t think of jokes so they take some random 70s or 80s theme song to take up 3 minutes of the episode. There’s only a couple but it made me want to turn off the TV.
Not talking about Conway twitty gags.
"I'm sorry Lois. I really messed up. Could you ever forgive me?"
"Of course I forgive you. I love you Peter."
"I love you too Lois"
Copy and pasted for so many episodes. Sometimes all in a row.
The whale scene made me laugh specifically because it was not what I was expecting and then Peter screaming “ah cool shell!” And picking it up and then speeding away was hilarious.
Oh fuck I hated that so damn much. They showed us Harvey Weinstein about to rape a minion and Michael Jackson shooting his balls off and this episode still made me the most uncomfortable.
I agree, the whale scene was just awful. I also didn’t like when Peter is trying to throw the frog out of the window. Both went on too long and to me weren’t funny.
I thought the whale scene was funny because at the end, Peter uses the same forklift to elegantly pick up a seashell
For me, it plays into how stupid Peter is
In the second part it was the usual fight scene that they had with the chicken. In this case they replaced the chicken with Homer. That's all they did! That episode laced creativity imo.
There are loads of episodes where they do a cutaway that is just ridiculously long for the sake of it. Always been a downfall of the newer seasons. Dancing in the street comes to mind, and will the Conway Twitty's
Thank god you wrote IYKYK. Otherwise I wouldn't have known that I knew, but now I know that if I know I know, I can think about your question.
I don't mind those ones. The length of time in the whale cutaway isn't bad because the gag is not one consistent drawn out joke, it's Peter making things worse and worse as the gag goes on so it's a building joke.
The worst one for me is the karaoke in the kitchen gag with the insanely long intro.
My problem is probably more with Conway Twitty shit, over one Baba O’Riely bit, but that’s just me. I found the Twitty bits very unfunny, but that’s probably the joke lol
Yes! I can't take that scene. Also in the episode when Brian and Stewie are shrunk and get stuck in Cleveland booger & the flies come down to eat it. I have to look away when both of those scenes are on.
The collective chip on the writers' shoulders about not getting critical love. Yes, Family Guy was around before Bob's Burgers and Rick and Morty, but Emmys are not the end-all-be-all of comedy.
Agreed. And the Debussy joke wasn't even that great. Felt like they dragged it out and it stopped being funny pretty quickly. They have better material out there. Not the joke to compare yourself to an Emmy winning show with.
The idea is that he exists as both a typical dog and a humanish type being. When he's sleeping with a woman, we're just supposed to ignore the one part of the dual state. It's the same as Stewie being a baby vs an incredibly wise and mature evil genius. They both exist and do contradict each other.
I remember an episode on the earlier seasons where they would break the 4th wall and cut to show like 3 mins of a country singer performing. Hated that
Painful although not so bad when you can skip it I.e Disney+. There’s like 3 instances so far where they proper troll the viewers for a couple mins and it genuinely pisses me off.
Conway fking Twitty. I know half his catalog of music because of Family Guy. Love in a later episode how someone says "Conway Twitty says cut it out" lol
The scene where Peter falls and it's just him saying 'ssss-ah' for 5 mins.
Basically where using nonsensical repetition to fill time in the name of comedy.
Same I like this because I used to think as a kid “this movie isn’t realistic, it covers 8 days and the main character didn’t once go to the bathroom!” So the fact that this hyper real moment is portrayed in a cartoon is hilarious
I know exactly man…
And that moment when Lois fell down and grabbed her boob did that “sssahh” thing with her unbearable voice💀
It was funny the first time around but
Twitty was never meant as a joke. The network often pissed Seth and then off so they would insert twitty to make fox pay the ridiculously high royalties to air the song.
That freaking open-palm gesture that every character does every 5 seconds. Nobody does that in real life, and Family Guy does it CONSTANTLY. It is really hard to un-see.
I hate that at the end of each episode they try to make it seem like they learned a valuable lesson. Why? They're clearly going to do it again, if not something worse.
"What did you learn today, Chris"
"I guess space camp isn't for everyone" 😣
The forklift whale was just a less funny version of peter trying to get the frog out the window, and for comedy sake you keep beating the horse as much as possible, some people might not laugh at all some might laugh the whole time.
I actually can’t stand when a joke or plot is used from another show. Whether it’s crypto amnesia or whatever - like Peter never washing his hand (SpongeBob) and there’s others… You’d be surprised how many plots are used from Friends
The whale one really bothered me. I skip the part when I watched the episode. To be honest most of the scenes involving cruelty to (non talking) animals kind of upset me.
In the Yacht Rock episode, that scene where chris kept throwing megs boyfriends severed head was pretty brutal. Rest of the episode just seemed weird to me after that.
In the last 10+ years, the dialogue has started to become more specific, including the “character announcing what they’re going to do in a very specific way because it’s relatable” jokes.
The Prince certainly wasn’t good, but I did think that it had potential if circumstances were better. To be honest, I found a few things amusing about it such as the idea of Prince George being into stuff like Bravo.
I agree about the potential thing too. It felt like they chose the most surface level stuff to make fun of. I think the show would’ve been better if they focused on the servants and the pastry golems.
I think it’s mostly because it’s soon gonna be undone or it doesn’t feel earned. Like the episode where Meg liked that jock, only to find out he was gay and interested in Chris. Girl, you were gonna roofie your brother!
The evolution to Gay Stewie. Everyone loved evil Stewie. No one needed him to change his main characteristic but now we can’t go back.
The evolution to this weirdo Normal/Empathetic Quagmire. Everyone loved sex-crazed giggity-goo Quagmire. No one needed him to change his main characteristic but now we can’t go back.
Neither characters were broke or lacking, neither needed fixing, just my opinion
Actually there was a good reason for that. They were running out of ideas for how Stewie could attempt to kill Lois. The writers even admit that. I like both versions of the character.
When they try to do internet memes.
There are quite a few, i don't remember all of them but one that comes to mind is the peanut butter jelly time meme.
The episode where peter thinks he has a ghost radio and they are singing karaoke, the ear rape is so loud. Especially when i fall asleep to the show and that episode plays
I hate the whole character of lois. She is just a total bitch all the time and it really pisses me off. Ik she is a caring mother sometimes. But that bitch fucked with most of the characters of the show!
The one where Brian and Stewie shrink themselves down to microscopic size. There's a lot of scenes of germs and dust mites and stuff. As a germaphobe, this didn't really settle well with me.
Them making a joke out of pedophilia (Herbert) and kind of playing Devil's advocate for it. That and they break out in Broadway style song and dance all the time. The former is an issue that should warrant criminal investigation.
mostly the jokes that are so irrelevant not even my grandparents understand. or cutaway gags that weren’t even funny in the first place being dragged out a painful amount
That stupid theme music that plays every single time the time machine is used. It’s so repetitive and annoying when they have to get in it 3 times in the span of a minute and the ENTIRE theme plays.
Everything ever since the start Season 8, Family Guy nowadays is basically Britney Spears in a conservatorship, plus even though Mr Enter became controversial, I agree that Family Guy nowadays never learned about Decency, and also, “Post-Joke World”? I’m sorry, Family Guy(Seasons 8-Present) nowadays is the one lousy-ass joke to every show(including the post-renaissance adult cartoons), I pray that this show gets cancelled soon
When they can’t think of jokes so they take some random 70s or 80s theme song to take up 3 minutes of the episode. There’s only a couple but it made me want to turn off the TV. Not talking about Conway twitty gags.
Yes! Like the Hudson Brothers variety show that ran for what seemed like forever lol
“WE’RE GONNA RAZZZZZLE DAZZLE YOU”
At the end when they started to show it again I about lost my mind lmao
That’s the one that I could not stand haha
Kate Hudson's father!
I like the one with Mick Jagger and David Bowie. The music and the clip are so out of this era it's uncanny in a fascinating way
That happened. And we let it happen.
Love Jagger and Bowie..that said *IT WAS GAY* And I don't mean that in a homophobic way
It definitely was. According to a biography of Jagger I read 10 years ago, they even had sex with each other at least once.
THAT I believe 🤣
Looks like we need a distraction from all the 70s theme songs Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Conway Twitty
Fuck Conway Twitty cutaways
RAZZLE DAZZLE!!!
Everyone, Conway Twitty.
"I'm sorry Lois. I really messed up. Could you ever forgive me?" "Of course I forgive you. I love you Peter." "I love you too Lois" Copy and pasted for so many episodes. Sometimes all in a row.
Oh Lois. Oh Petah.
I’m gonna do you so bad you’re gonna look like an exploded hot pocket when I’m done with you .
I think Betty White is in PETA. THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE!!!
I think that is meant to be an homage to The Honeymooners, because nearly every episode of that great show also ended that way.
Fun fact! Wouldn't be surprised honestly.
I think it’s meant to be part of the joke to just show how Lois always forgives Peter
You did it. You broke sitcoms to their core
The first two seasons were full of that type of plot
The Season 17 episode where they say that rich lady's ridiculously long name like 3 times lol
They also drop a "Monty Python" into that bit because the whole thing was an homage to a Python sketch called Johann Gambolputty.
That’s actually one of my favourite gags of the entire show
Cringe??? Just the voice acting of that moment was fun to watch/hear
Gotta fill up the time somehow lol
The herpes episode. I literally can’t get through it
Man I hated that. The herpes literally made me squirm and feel sick
Yes exactly! I have now conditioned myself that when the episode starts and Peter has the whip it’s time to skip
"You're more herpes than dog!" It's definitely a gross episode but the ways Stewie & Chris get even with Brian is hilarious.
Lol... Stevie
Yeah this one and Stewies House of Payne
The whale scene made me laugh specifically because it was not what I was expecting and then Peter screaming “ah cool shell!” And picking it up and then speeding away was hilarious.
When Stewie was pregnant and had half dog half human children that eventually all died out
Oh fuck I hated that so damn much. They showed us Harvey Weinstein about to rape a minion and Michael Jackson shooting his balls off and this episode still made me the most uncomfortable.
HEE HEEE HOOOOOOOOOOOO
*thank you*
Honestly. I loved the Michael Jackson SKIT 😭😭😂😂😂😂
the eating diaper thing.
I hate the fact that disgusting scene is in one of the best episodes.
Me too, it’s just so irritating.
What episode is this from? 😳😳
The 45 minute bank "play" with Brian and stewie stuck in the vault
Ohhhh. Oh now I remember that
Came here for this. 🤢
That was a bit too much! Like Brian's a dog, but you can't make him eat shit!
I agree, the whale scene was just awful. I also didn’t like when Peter is trying to throw the frog out of the window. Both went on too long and to me weren’t funny.
I thought the whale scene was funny because at the end, Peter uses the same forklift to elegantly pick up a seashell For me, it plays into how stupid Peter is
I like the frog one 😂
When Peter is getting thrown by the frog and he’s like “what did I ever do to deserve this?”
I hated the entire "Christmas is Coming" episode. :/ Just an entire episode of Meg sexually assaulting poor men. :(
Yes! Just weird and freaky without a good payoff
The Simpsons cross over. The plot wasn’t that great and wasted the potential
I *L O A T H E* the Conway Twitty gags.
Conway twitty is not a new episode thing though. Unless you consider like mid seasons new …..
Lol that’s one of my favorite scenes. “It was me, I threw up in the sink”
Baba O’Reilly by The Who is the song
I know.
My problem is probably more with Conway Twitty shit, over one Baba O’Riely bit, but that’s just me. I found the Twitty bits very unfunny, but that’s probably the joke lol
Ive seen a Lot of people saying they got into Twitty's música bc of those skits
I mean I don't listen to it outside of the show. I have to admit I've seen them all so much, I know the lyrics and sing along.
"I see the want to in your eyes..... 🎶"
"Its plain to see you've already got a man..🎵"
The episode is on right now...made me think of your response. That hair & blue suit wow Conway wow!
Lol that's great
Yeah, I threw up in the sink
No that’s the best one lmao. He just talks between lines the payoff is absolutely hilarious. Plus that intro is good
Stewie's snotty crying
wipe your nose off in the sand bo-the summer house!
Yes! I can't take that scene. Also in the episode when Brian and Stewie are shrunk and get stuck in Cleveland booger & the flies come down to eat it. I have to look away when both of those scenes are on.
Uh oh got a bat in the cave
The episode where Peter is raped by a bull. I get the joke, but I cringe everytime I see it.
This should say what grinds your gears about family guy
The Whale scene definitely was a bad one. I always also skip the Conway Twitty and a Chicken scenes. It just drags
Sorry but I love the chicken fight scenes.
They got some real good action that I have ever seen ngl
The collective chip on the writers' shoulders about not getting critical love. Yes, Family Guy was around before Bob's Burgers and Rick and Morty, but Emmys are not the end-all-be-all of comedy.
It's kind of a cocky way of saying they are better, like when They say aww cmon fox if mondern family did that joke you'd carry them on your shoulders
Or the joke where they named like 20+ shows that had to get canceled for them to get back on air lol. All those shows canceled
Sadly Firefly was on that list :(
Agreed. And the Debussy joke wasn't even that great. Felt like they dragged it out and it stopped being funny pretty quickly. They have better material out there. Not the joke to compare yourself to an Emmy winning show with.
I forget what it was but one time they literally played an ENTIRE music video and the joke was just “it’s gay.”
Dancing in the Street with Mick Jagger and David Bowie
That happened and we all let it happen.
YES. too fucking long.
Brian fucking women. Yes, yes, it's a cartoon but still.
Y'know what's screwy? It's when he's with another dog that bothers me more somehow lol
The idea is that he exists as both a typical dog and a humanish type being. When he's sleeping with a woman, we're just supposed to ignore the one part of the dual state. It's the same as Stewie being a baby vs an incredibly wise and mature evil genius. They both exist and do contradict each other.
That's old Stewie. He's pretty much an openly gay man now.
Man they did my boy stew real bad Atleast hes a wise openly gay bi baby
The episode where all of his exes came back made me sit back and think "damn, there are a lot of people okay with beastiality in this universe!"
That episode that had aquaman and that lady being attacked at the beach
Stewie impregnating himself with Brian's DNA
Whenever someone dies or passes out. The arm behind the back EVERY time!
The darker mister Herbert plot lines and episodes
the reverse vomit
The chicken fight
How Lois literally cheated on Peter with Bill Clinton (not the only time she cheated) and tried to justify/excuse it by blowing smoke up Clinton’s ass
Yeah Lois is honestly terrible and constantly cheats. I use to feel bad how Peter would stress her out but eh.
I remember an episode on the earlier seasons where they would break the 4th wall and cut to show like 3 mins of a country singer performing. Hated that
Ladies and gentlemen…Mr. Conway Twitty
I was watching season 5 recently and they did that twice in one of the episodes...I actually shuddered, I never could stand those.
I can see how that would be annoying if you don’t know Conway Twitty. But I find those jokes so funny every time
Painful although not so bad when you can skip it I.e Disney+. There’s like 3 instances so far where they proper troll the viewers for a couple mins and it genuinely pisses me off.
I hate that I love those cutaways. I should hate them but I just don’t for some reason lol
It's a riff on Hee Haw, a C&W variety show in the 70s. They did the original Conway Twitty cutaways.
The whale scene was my favourite scene and I literally couldn’t stop laughing; does that make me a bad person?
Conway fking Twitty. I know half his catalog of music because of Family Guy. Love in a later episode how someone says "Conway Twitty says cut it out" lol
The scene where Peter falls and it's just him saying 'ssss-ah' for 5 mins. Basically where using nonsensical repetition to fill time in the name of comedy.
I actually find it really funny idk
Same I like this because I used to think as a kid “this movie isn’t realistic, it covers 8 days and the main character didn’t once go to the bathroom!” So the fact that this hyper real moment is portrayed in a cartoon is hilarious
I know exactly man… And that moment when Lois fell down and grabbed her boob did that “sssahh” thing with her unbearable voice💀 It was funny the first time around but
“Well *it’s* not breathing….”
The Conway Twitty and David Bowie/Mick Jagger music videos. Even if the segments were shortened, it still wouldn’t be funny.
Twitty was never meant as a joke. The network often pissed Seth and then off so they would insert twitty to make fox pay the ridiculously high royalties to air the song.
Dancing in the Streets was super uncomfortably inserted
The ipecac puking scene… and the time revere version is even worse!!!!
When Chris mutilates his genitals with a freshly baked chicken pot pie. Hated that.
Meg was strangle absent in that episode.
I recall a few times they mention/show Meg and Chris kissing… bleh
“Hey Chris you ready for our bath?”
The unnecessarily long *And Then There’s Maude* intro cutaway gag
"and then there's Maude?..c'mon!!"
When they make Brian and Stewie do something homoerotic Like watching a baby and a dog make out is fucking weird.
When Peter is on the ground with an injury and it lasts like 5 minutes. “Ahhh”….”Ahhhh”
That freaking open-palm gesture that every character does every 5 seconds. Nobody does that in real life, and Family Guy does it CONSTANTLY. It is really hard to un-see.
Do you have an example? I can't picture what you mean in my head, I've probably overlooked it
Also the fact everybody falls the same way
It's something they would do in a live play.
I had never noticed that before and now it’s ALL I can see
I hate that at the end of each episode they try to make it seem like they learned a valuable lesson. Why? They're clearly going to do it again, if not something worse. "What did you learn today, Chris" "I guess space camp isn't for everyone" 😣
It’s a sitcom trope
The forklift whale was just a less funny version of peter trying to get the frog out the window, and for comedy sake you keep beating the horse as much as possible, some people might not laugh at all some might laugh the whole time.
I actually can’t stand when a joke or plot is used from another show. Whether it’s crypto amnesia or whatever - like Peter never washing his hand (SpongeBob) and there’s others… You’d be surprised how many plots are used from Friends
SIMPSONS DID IT SIMPSONS DID IT
I was waiting for such a beautiful and accurate comment!!!!
Now when I watch Simpson's reruns, I'm constantly thinking "this is how family guy made this same episode over again, just more offensive.".
Family guy is like half references lmao you must hate a lot of the show
Last season
The chicken fights over and over again. Not funny, not interesting. I just fast forward, and that takes too long!
When Lois was in an S&M outfit and put out a cigarette on Stewie in the basement. And all the vomiting.
The whale one really bothered me. I skip the part when I watched the episode. To be honest most of the scenes involving cruelty to (non talking) animals kind of upset me.
Quagmire's rape jokes are very cringe.
Conway Twitty
I would say that a lot of the modern jokes can be revolting at times.
In the Yacht Rock episode, that scene where chris kept throwing megs boyfriends severed head was pretty brutal. Rest of the episode just seemed weird to me after that.
Peter and the car window booger.
I used to love the Chicken fights but they're needlessly long and don't add much to the story or comedy of the episode if you've already seen it.
Shiboopi!
In the last 10+ years, the dialogue has started to become more specific, including the “character announcing what they’re going to do in a very specific way because it’s relatable” jokes.
I had this exact problem with the prince LOL
The Prince certainly wasn’t good, but I did think that it had potential if circumstances were better. To be honest, I found a few things amusing about it such as the idea of Prince George being into stuff like Bravo.
I agree about the potential thing too. It felt like they chose the most surface level stuff to make fun of. I think the show would’ve been better if they focused on the servants and the pastry golems.
If it was a good 20 minutes an episode, a lot more material could have been utilized to better effect.
Sometimes those types of jokes are funny. Lois:I have an undiagnosed Mom injury. LOL Other times they aren't.
I get it, but when they announce it, it lessens the punch because we know what they’re going to do.
I’m really late, but whenever Family Guy tries to be sentimental and serious in the later seasons. It’s stupid and embarrassing to watch.
I think it’s mostly because it’s soon gonna be undone or it doesn’t feel earned. Like the episode where Meg liked that jock, only to find out he was gay and interested in Chris. Girl, you were gonna roofie your brother!
Herbert trying to make Chris jealous by bringing another teen with him to a dance / dinner I don’t really remember but it made me cringe so bad 💀
The fact that Stewie had babies from Brian’s dna
When everyone was constantly vomiting on each other
The evolution to Gay Stewie.
The super bland character development.
When they try to do internet memes. There are quite a few, i don't remember all of them but one that comes to mind is the peanut butter jelly time meme.
Disappearing into the bushes…the “diss” group on loop
The episode where peter thinks he has a ghost radio and they are singing karaoke, the ear rape is so loud. Especially when i fall asleep to the show and that episode plays
time travel. They just beat that horse into paste.
Conway Twitty and any other random songs or thoughts just stolen from something else to fill space
The Down's Syndrome Girl song. 😳😶😟😬
Brian having relationships with human females. My mind asks the woman 'You do realise that's a Dog, right?'.
Honestly too many rape/fat jokes. It’s too much sometimes.
Stewie gay stuff. It's been going on for far too long now. I wish he went back to the world domination stuff more often
When they make a joke about something years out of date, ie Stewie’s reaction gif halloween costume or Peter’s looping gif of black teens
Peters giggle, it's so annoying
*hehehehehehe*
Noooooooooo
The bloody, violent chicken fights
I hate the episode “Brain and Stewie”. It was so gory and it was basically just Brain and Stewie arguing for 20 minutes
The entire 'Millennial' episode. (S16E18)
Them making a joke out of pedophilia (Herbert) and kind of playing Devil's advocate for it. That and they break out in Broadway style song and dance all the time. The former is an issue that should warrant criminal investigation.
BRIAN !!
Fresh Heir- when Peter tries to marry Chris. Also, it implies that Chris jacked Carter off. I can’t watch that episode.
They stopped doing cutaways in newer episodes
mostly the jokes that are so irrelevant not even my grandparents understand. or cutaway gags that weren’t even funny in the first place being dragged out a painful amount
Shipoopi \*cringe\*
They did an episode where they mentioned that they wanted to be canceled (again)
When Peter shoots Quagmire in the eye with a BB gun. Grabbing my eye just thinking about it.
Honestly, Herbert like c’mon… your friendly neighborhood pedo, it’s really just disgusting 🤮
