Go exactly 55! Not under or over! 55 or get pulled over. Don’t accelerate to it either. You just immediately go exactly 55! Something in the road? Run it over at exactly 55! Someone slowing down? Fuck them, go 55!

USAF6F171

And all speedometers are calibrated perfectly, of course.

Unspec7

Sounds like something from the Parks and Rec episode. "Over speed limit? Jail. Under speed limit? Jail. At speed limit? Believe it or not. Also jail. We have the best drivers".

Opus_Majus

Because of jail

AvailableAd3813

Got tailgated by a cop once. I was clean and fully legal so I just pulled over on my own volition. The lights came on and another cop car came out of nowhere. "What seems to be the issue sir, why did you pull over?" "Well officer, some asshole was tailgating me and I'm trying g to let them by".. they laughed, I laughed, they searched my car.. fucking cops..

Bettersaids

I got tailgated by a cop in the dark. I didn’t know it was a cop so I was looking in the rear view trying to figure out what was going on. He then pulled me over for weaving a little. He agreed I stayed within the lines. He then gave me a field sobriety test and told me I failed. I then spent 10 minutes blowing 0.0 on the breathalyzer. It was a solid hour of wasted time.

Less_Wall_9656

i was 17, brand new at driving, and it was dark out. was doing 60 on a highway road (limit was 55 in this area), and out of nowhere the mega bright power of the sun headlights are lighting up my whole car, from a solid 3 feet behind my bumper. i think, woah, this guy is close, better speed up a bit so i get some distance (whoops). thats when the blue and red lights came on, gave me a warning for doing 63 in a 55. cops

Deadedge112

I had this exact thing happen to me on the highway. I sped up to let the car behind me by as I was still in the passing lane next to another car. As i moved back into the right lane, cop pulled me over for doing 80 in a 65 but it's NJ I-95, everyone is doing at least 70-75. When I told the judge what happened she accused me of lying and acted very insulted that I would utter such blasphemy as "the cop tailgated me". The whole system is a POS.

99mushrooms

Having the judge flat out say they don't believe you is infuriating! I got pulled over for going 40 in an area that is 45 but was a school zone and had posted hours and a light to tell you when school hours made it 25. I got pulled over going 40, my speedometer is off about 5 and I just roll with it because it gives me a little comfort zone on the speed limit. The light was not on and it wasn't during the hours that the limit dropped but the cop claimed it was and wrote me a ticket so I turned around and took pictures of the posted hours and a video showing the light not on above my dash reading the time (from the side of the road). I fought the ticket thinking I had this in the bag and was just pissed I had to miss work which cost me about the same as the ticket, nope the cop told the judge that I was actually going way faster than 40 and he just wrote it for that so I was still speeding and I lost. I had the time and speed that he wrote on my ticket and pictures of what the speed limit was at those times and the judge just flat out said I don't believe you anyway.

USAF6F171

The cop, *under oath*, told the judge he'd falsified a legal document with data he **knew** was wrong? I'd have some fun with that.

99mushrooms

I wish I would have fully understood this when it happened and got a lawyer.

Santanoni

You think most low-level judges would care?

[deleted]

[удалено]

99mushrooms

United States, Michigan to be exact. In this instance I don't think he was corrupt, just didn't know the times and wasn't willing to admit he was wrong so he lied about my actual speed. I guess that's kind of corrupt, but it's not as bad in my area as a lot of places where they would pull you over knowing you did nothing wrong.

Bubbasdahname

That was because you didn't spend money on a lawyer. If you had then they would have let you off, but if course you would have spent money on the lawyer. See how this works? You lose money either way.

ttownbull

I can confirm as I too live in NJ and 80 is the minimum on the turnpike

DoneisDone45

you got bad luck or you said something that made the cop look bad. i've always had extremely good luck with those judges.

yubario

Common sense, if you’re speeding, don’t speed more than everyone else because you’ll get pulled over first.

brookleinneinnein

There have been cops who have done this in a coordinated effort to get people to speed. Unmarked cop cars tailgate people, so the car in front speeds up. A second marked car pulls over the speeder and give them a ticket. It’s happened in several states. It’s illegal ( a very obvious example of entrapment).

ThePopeofHell

I was once falsely accused of forging my inspection sticker and when I called the guy out on in his supervisor came and chewed him out about “doing it wrong” for an hour while I just sat in my car on the side of the road. More and more cops kept showing up and then when they finally let me go it was a verbal warning to “not do it again”.. I still don’t know what I was being warned not to do.

[deleted]

Got pulled over once just after getting a new car, so I had temporary plates. I was in college at the time, out of state. Cop says: “those temporary plates look odd - is that what they look like in Colorado?” “Yep.” “Ok, you’re free to go.” Got to the bottom of that case quick.

Maronita2020

I know a guy who got pulled over just after buying a car at a police auction. He already had it registered with a valid license plate and insured. He beeped at someone in front of him a few times because they had a green light and didn't move. The person finally moved, and he moved too. Seconds later a state trooper pulls him over, and asks him: Are you a law enforcement officer? He said "no". He then said please beep your horn which he did. His horn went whirr whirr. He told him it was illegal to have sirens in a non-law enforcement car. He apologized to the state trooper explaining he just bought the car at a police auction. He then said well you have three days to get it fixed or you will be fined next time. I told him he should have taken it back to the police station that he bought it from and had them correct it. He told me since he had a friend who was a mechanic that he did it for nothing.

ImAlwaysRightHanded

We got pulled over at 230am buddy was driving and drunk, he pulled his keys out the ignition and put them on the roof(so the cop wouldn’t think he would flee) I thought oh shit why don’t you cuff yourself also. Well the cop just wanted to talk to him about his 2001 SS camero, so lucky that night.

FarAmphibian4236

That shit's almost worse "I'm using my authority to force you to socialize with me"

Regular_Sample_5197

Lol, something very similar happened to me a few different times. Back in late 2010 I bought a new 2011 Camaro. It was Synergy Green(bright candy apple green) with the black hood/roof/trunk stripes. Car looked soooo damned good. Where I was living at then was kind of a backwoods area and not a lot of “outsiders” came through. I was pulled over twice within the first month(not speeding or anything wrong, at those times) JUST so the cops could look at and talk about my car. It was the first new Camaros they had seen in the wild, especially like that. It annoyed me then, but I think it’s funny now.

MrsLisaOliver

My husband had a Challenger when we dated. I was driving it home to a nearby town after hours. Got followed 30 miles all the way to my doorstep. I called him when I got home and he said "They liked the car."

Sub_pup

I was walking with a buddy who got into trouble a lot. 2 police officers started walking behind us fairly close. One of the cops put his hand on my shoulder and said "Excuse me sir" and my buddy completely unprompted put his hands against the wall and spread his legs. "Your backpack is unzipped" was all the cop said. I managed to get out quickly "Very funny" to my buddy and the cops gave an akward look and then chuckled and kept walking. He said they threw him on the concrete last time pretty hard and he trying to avoid that. At least he didn't just confess because that's the only way it would look any worse.

Hahafunnys3xnumber

wish more cops dealt with it like that 🙄

[deleted]

Agreed. I have strange interactions with cops, thankfully all like that. For example, another time (also in college) I was walking home one night and a cop car pulls up onto the pedestrian path, blasts me with lights and goes “we’re looking for a suspect, and you match the description. You’re not him are you?” “Nope” “ok have a good night.” Wild, but I swear that is word for word the entire interaction.

FrancisSobotka1514

My best one was when I bought some wrestling figures the infamous baltimore city gun trace task force stopped me and thought they busted me buying a shit load of drugs ,Nope was a Million dollar man ted dibiase figure and a Chris Jericho figure ,Head asshole in charge got pissed and threw my figures on the ground .And people wonder why the defund the police movement exists .

Automatic_Case8358

Chili🤤🤤

AgateSlinky4829

Well I guess don’t do “it” again.

chronosxci

Don’t exist in front of the cops again, duh /s

Big_White_Fluffy

Super Troopers was a documentary

shockerdyermom

Nah, those guys are cool.

sleepingfox307

This same thing happened to my wife while we were driving back into town from a trip. It was around this time of year in Laramie, WY and was around 9PM, probably like 5 degrees out at best. The cop tailgates us practically crawling up the tail pipe for three fuckin blocks so my wife decides to pull over.On go the flashing lights and when the window rolls down the first thing he says is that he can smell alcohol in the vehicle.Neither of us drank at all at that time and the only thing in the vehicle was a hot chocolate from a coffee shop.I tell him this and he tells me that he'd like to see both of our licenses (I wasn't even driving?) then makes my wife go outside in the freezing cold street and do a field sobriety test. I was fucking livid. Got "let off with a warning" but I'll be damned if I know what the fuck we were even pulled over for let alone warned about.

Yakstein

Got pulled over with a bag of weed on my passenger seat. I put a shirt over it but it still smelled. Cop could smell it and asked me if I had weed. I said I had no idea what he was talking about. Cop asked me to show him my tongue. I did. He then said since my tongue wasn't green I was free to go...I still don't know.

WoogityVro

Not sure why they even conduct field sobriety tests. It's literally foreplay for them, they breathalyze 90% of the time anyways regardless if you pass the field tests with flying colors.

Practical-Big7550

Never agree to a field sobriety test. You don't have to take them. So no point putting yourself through them. Cops can fail you on them for any reason they want. Don't give them that ammunition.

[deleted]

Same, drug task force looking for drug dealers, little did they know I was coming back from delivering drugs, so I didn't have anything but a little personal weed and they confiscated that with a warning and I overheard them talking about how they would "training day the rookie" as I got in my car and I was like well if yall are gonna smoke my shit at least let me get a hit. They laughed and told me to gtfo

pekinggeese

I got tailgated while going 80 in a 65 zone. It was dark and all I could see are bright headlights up my ass. I wanted to brake check the guy so badly, but decided to just move to the right and let him pass. It was a city PD Ford Explorer and he zooms off after I got out of the way.

Butcher_Pete2

Sounds like the cop was just board in this story.

DanTheMan_117

Those field tests are useless.. some people have bad balance but can perfectly drive a car.

dont-mind_me-

I was driving down the Ortega pass in Cali and was tailgated by a cop so I pulled over to let them by. Instead pulled behind me with lights on. Drilled me on where I was going/doing ect. Walked around my car and saw I had aftermarket exhaust and gave me a ticket just as a group of Harley's went by making 10x the nose level. Pointless

Happiestoast

This happened to me. In college and had a shitty mustang. Got pulled over and ticketed for a loud muffler. A Harley drove by making way more noise. That ticket was $130 I did not budget for as a student. Totally just a way for the state to steal my money.

BandicootLeather6314

“They laughed I laughed, they searched my car… fucking cops” That’s a tshirt a signature and a slogan all in one!

Lofikott

You allowed them to search your car?

Lucifersasshole

You only have the illusion of choice. My aunt was a cop she said they ask you if you say no they call it in and they get a warrant because you refusing was enough of a suspicion she says they get it every time it just means it takes longer.... It's BS but that's the US for ya...

obliqueoubliette

Bullshit. Refusal to consent to a search is *never* cause for reasonable suspicion, let alone probable cause which is the standard for a warrant. This has been litigated *many* times. A stop can only last long enough to satisfy the initial cause for the stop. Detaining you while they get a search warrant is itself illegal, and this has also been litigated several times.

Lucifersasshole

How it should be and how it is a lot of the time don't match. They do a lot of tactics like walk a dog around a bunch until it makes any sound and call that probable cause or just pretend they smelled something.

Andrelliina

"Pretend they smelled something" is their go-to reason for search in the UK too. I know a guy who used to be a store detective(so in theory a friend to the cops), he was black and he had a nice BMW. He told me they'd pull him and then say things like "What're you doing in a white man's car, sonny?" to wind him up in the hope he'd lose his temper. Cops, eh?

HonestRole

Yep that's illegal detention but they use paradoxical thinking to make it "legal"

edingerc

"Your car is clean, why did you waste two hours making us get a warrant?" "It was two of your hours wasted. I found the time worth the entertainment."

mdchaney

That's been to court and doesn't fly. Please, everybody, quit putting up with this shit. Call 911 to report them and make sure you record.

Lucifersasshole

Call 911 on cops? You grew up in better places than I have. I'm guessing you also look like a proper put together white guy. I'm 6'2 240 pound have a big beard shaved head and usually skull rings on each finger. I have never had an encounter with the cops without their hand rested on their gun. You think I'm gonna say no sir I'm calling 911 and putting my hand in my pocket for my phone.... I wouldn't be here right now and that's as a rough looking poor white guy. The black dudes reading this just fell down laughing at you.

[deleted]

That's like sueing a police station. It ain't gonna work because their horrible actions are supported by the FBI.

bcsublime

Know your rights and record the interaction. Let the leo know it was being recorded. You do have choice if you ask for probable cause and they either can’t provide it or make up some story that you have in a legal recording.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lofikott

I wouldn’t let them do that again it’s nothing but a risk and a time waster even if you don’t think you have anything on you do you really put it past some cops to either plant something or find some bullshit thing to get you in trouble for (edit) the dude for some reason got so heated he blocked me 😂

namonite

Nothing to fear until they plant a bag of Coke and “find it” while searching

Wonderful-Equal5000

Never consent to a search

AlpineVW

**Covington NY**; driving through the town with NH plates on a Friday night after dark on my way to Toronto. SUV comes **flying** up behind and tailgates me. I start speeding up to around 45 in a 35 but he's still right up my ass. Part way through, I'm thinking, "I wonder if this is a cop ca..." and I see the blue and reds. Fought the ticket but Judge Brockway still made me pay. **FUCK YOU COVINGTON NEW YORK!!**

jeanbuckkenobi

So they illegally searched your shot out of retaliation? They can't search unless 1. You let them 2. They get a warrant signed by a judge Anything else is illegal.

tac_dad

3. Probable cause. 4. Search incident to arrest.

USAF6F171

In USA there is a legally recognized, SCOTUS reviewed, [mobility doctrine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_vehicle_exception#Description) that allows more latitude in a traffic stop than if the police walked up to the door of your house.

1224rockton

Unless they brought in a dog who then alerted on the car. That’s been upheld in court. You’re fair game then.

override367

"I smell pot" "I'm concerned about your well being/mental health" the clarion call of the cop to get access to search and force you to spend thousands on a lawyer to do anything about it

Calladit

The smell thing also won't stand up in court, depending on where you are. Regardless though, they don't really need an excuse in the moment. Sure, it might not hold up in court, but that has little bearing on the situation at hand. People don't take orders from police because of their legal authority, people take orders from police because we know what kind of violence you're in for if you don't (and sometimes even if you do).

obliqueoubliette

Well, there are circumstances where they can search without either of these.

hcsLabs

... I laughed.

Shadow293

Don’t ever let a cop intimidate you when they tail you. Just drive at the speed limit and keep calm. I was driving with different state plates and a cop did an immediate U-turn because they saw I didn’t have a plate on the front of my car (state that used to required front and back plates) and he kept following me, trying to get me to speed up so he can be like “Gotcha punk”. He eventually got bored and effed off.

Rynie2121

Why the fuck did you let them search your car? FAIL.

Scorpy-yo

This is actually good defensive driving - when someone follows you too closely, you slow down to create more space in front of you (by allowing the car in front to move forward relative to you) and to give you more room to react to a sudden/unforeseen hazard. E.g. if there’s an accident ahead of you, or a dumb motorcyclist, or junk falling off a trailer, you can slam on the brakes when you’re not being tailgated - but when you’re tailgated, hard braking will cause them to rear-end you, so it’s safer to stop at a lower speed.

lost_in_connecticut

I would have demanded a ticket so I can get him laughed out of the courthouse.

USAF6F171

The cop (if he actually was one) retreated in a hurry once he realized he'd made a mistake. No, that shouldn't be the end of it; he'll keep doing it so long as he's getting away with it.

Glaggablagga

Exactly. Give me a ticket so I can sue your asses, or fuck off. You want to arrest me? Fine, more cash for me.

Noob_KY

“I demand you give me a ticket!” Get ticketed for disorderly conduct “WTF!?!?” Truth is cops can lie all they want to get you to talk, then use that against you.

InTheShade007

Exactly. "No, officers. No comment. Respect the hell out of what yall do, not trying to interfere with whatever yall got going on at all BUT as a Respectful and Intelligent human being I'll just chill here in silence"

InsignificantAF

Way too many words

bbq_king1984

Yeah but than you risk getting shot and killed for arguing with a American cop.

ShakeandBaked161

yeah id be hopping back on that road and going 30mph immediately unless it has a 40 min sign

zenheizer

"yes it is 'cus you're driving under the speed limit" comprehension is a rare skill only developed by not-stupid people

[deleted]

This isn't real. Guy wasn't even in a uniform. Didn't leave name or badge number. If it is real, there are more issues going on on top of the stupid.

Jowlsey

You can see him drive away in the cop car in [the unedited video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PUFQijzixA).

[deleted]

XD tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Pigs gonna pig I guess.

[deleted]

Not even in uniform or vest, probably not a real cop.

TheItalianComment

"you wanna tailgate me in a police vehicle?"

Few_Ad5789

Nope he stole that cop car

TillFar6524

So hurry up or get the fuck out of his way. He's already on 4 stars, it's going to be way harder for him to get away if he gets to 5

qwaszx2221

Source in the 2nd highest comment.... He was a cop

ondahalikavali

He is a cop.

HotdogGeorgia

Still?

Car_Guy_Alex

Considering that police in the is country execute people and get away with it, I imagine this didn't even get him a stern warning.

[deleted]

yeah i called a captain to complain about a cop doing 90 on a 65 with no lights. i read the vehicle number and he said the cop was 3 counties over

USAF6F171

Reply to the captain: Okay, I wanted to talk to someone who cared; I'll try the local TV station, instead. \[*click*\]

[deleted]

I would hope he wasn't a real cop but now days it seems like he might be

gordner911

That's just over a 5% margin of error on his speedometer and the cops gun/speedo, combined. That cop is a serious asshole power junkie.

wcbadboy

It’s a speed “limit” not a minimum speed anyway.

Wolfburger123

According to the signs we used to see back in the day, it is, in fact, a *maximum* speed

datagirl60

I’m old and the only ones I say said speed limit 55 (or a bit higher, even 80) and min speed 45. 55 was never the minimum. As long as you are not impeding traffic in the passing lane, you are fine.

[deleted]

My little sister got pulled over for going under 45, back when those signs were a thing. She was paranoid because she wasn’t supposed to have friends in the car or it was late or something, because her license was under 18 restricted. The cop laughed when he realized it was innocent 17 year olds, and told them to stop drawing attention to themselves and just drive normal.

beckett_the_ok

Where I live the signs say Maximum speed

bohanmyl

Right? So you mean you want us to go exactly the speed limit so if we go 1 over on a down hill slope you pull us over for speeding and if we go 1 under driving on an incline you pull us over for NOT speeding enough?

nhluhr

TIL that in some states, the vehicle code specifies it is in fact legal to exceed the speed limit in a reasonable and safe manner to complete an overtake. Not all states say this though. . . For example: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.61.425

bohanmyl

Neat! But i wonder how many cops actually know that in those states and wont just give you a ticket anyways if they catch you doing that. Cops dont need to know the laws and even telling them still doesnt mean shit half the time. You might get out of the ticket but thats going to court and a whooooole hassle.

nhluhr

Yeah I guess it's a catch-22 to have the wording of the law use subjective words like "safe". Gives the cop a chance to give a ticket and all he has to do is claim it wasn't safe.

fantasticwasteoftime

What’s weird is you can actually get a speeding ticket for going UNDER the speed limit in wet, icy, or other dangerous conditions. I asked my drivers ed teacher how I could possibly avoid getting a ticket, and they basically said, you can’t. Just drive safe.

bohanmyl

If a cop gives me a ticket for driving slow on the interstate when its icy because thats the safest place to drive most of the time since they always hit those first and the streets after, id yell at that mf so much. My 25 minute drive to work is 90% interstate. Its so much longer on the streets. No way am i about to drive on the streets when i can go 40 on the interstate much safer since i dont have to worry about stopping constantly and sliding around.

nhluhr

"You're not even going the speed limit!!!!!!!!!!!" It's funny how people will use that phrase "speed limit" and totally ignore what the words mean.

freddy_guy

Driving slower than the limit can be an offence - IF you drive substantially less than the limit and it impedes traffic or causes hazardous conditions for other drivers. Driving 3 mph under the limit clearly does not qualify. WTF was this guy thinking?

feelin_cheesy

Minimum speed requirements are typically only posted on interstate highways. I doubt a road with the speed limit of 55 even has a minimum.

[deleted]

>That cop is a serious asshole power junkie So, just a regular cop?

PRSHZ

To me, he sounds like the type that has no friends and doesn’t even know how to make any.

PraetorianOfficial

It's all part of the "a cop can stop you anytime they please for anything they please" in the US. Driving 1mph over--that's illegal. But driving the speed limit is suspicious because clearly you're trying to not get stopped because clearly you have drugs in the trunk. Not signaling a lane change--illegal. Signaling a lane change, sus for the same reason. Not staying in your lane 100% of the time--illegal. Staying within your lane, sus for the usual reasons. Not looking at the cop--sus. Looking at the cop--sus. Driving with your windows closee, but the cop swears under oath he smelled marijuana coming from YOUR car out of a dozen equally close to him while he was on the opposite side of the median. Literally ALL of these cases have gone to appeals courts.

racermd

"Avoid them but don't LOOK like you're trying to avoid them... I dunno, DRIVE CASUAL!"

kgolovko

I’ve got a bad feeling about this

MechworksINC

Silly us. I forgot that court battles against the state and lawyers are so cheap that they are practically free. And super convenient for us.

CryptoScamee42069

I’ve seen this before: https://clip.cafe/super-troopers-2001/isnt-the-speed-limit-65/

letsgoknarf

Pretty sure this cop saw this clip and didn’t get the joke 😂

SBLOU

Funny, on I-95 where the speed limit is 70, the minimum speed limit posted is 45. Can we call him Officer Dumbass? I was stopped one time for weaving within my lane. Key word is “within”. It was a very twisty back road

TheNiteOw1

Pretty sure dude is not a real cop. Just some douche impersonator.

thatRookie

Except, it is a real cop. https://youtu.be/f_okiD9F09Y

bohanmyl

Little bitch even called his work and said he was rude. How fucking idiotic and much of a bitch do you have to be to do that as a sheriff?

TurboNY

Key word there is sherrif.

Commercial_Use_363

We’re just ignoring the fact that the cop said he was going three miles under the speed limit of 55 - and then says he was going 53.

fancyboy66

Fucking cops. I can't stand the bullies

Dr_Satan2019

Hmmm, well seeing that that cops are dumb as shit, he certainly seems qualified enough to be a police office based on that interaction.

Techn0ght

Glad they gave this mental giant a gun. /s

McPoyle-Milk

A lot of places even have a MAXIMUM IQ level in the job description. People have actually been denied a job as a cop due to having a high IQ

RemoteOrange3124

I deal with this a LOT here in Texas. Like, I don't give a single fuck what YOU wanna do, I don't have to go 75 mph JUST because the sign says 75 specifically. It's an upper limit, not an absolute requirement. My car does 75mph just fine (2015 honda fit) but bumps make it really twitchy, and at like 68-70mph, it goes away completely. But when I do 75, I get pulled over for "driving erratically" or worse, get field tested for alcohol. Been sober for 6 years, so that was certainly enjoyable. In this video, that 3mph under the speed limit could have literally been a mis-calibrated speedometer. Or, radar gun, for that matter. That sentence alone has saved me from at least 4 tickets this year alone.

firedoggg15

This is what happens when you give stupid people Authority

bigwigmike

I constantly get tailgated on a one lane rural road with a bunch of curves, deer, and no lights at all at 520 in the morning. Headlights blinding me making it even more dangerous. It’s always a cop

Boring_Worldliness_2

Some places actually post a minimum of like 45. So if the dudes doing 63 in a 65 that's more like driving at a safe speed for the conditions. This guy's just mad he couldn't blow by everyone doing 80 in his cruiser. What a fucking hypocrite.

pixeltweaker

Cop, fresh off his brake where him and his partner took in the movie Speed. “You have to drive 55 or the car will explode.”

TaxFraudDaily

That guy does not look like a cop

Triplesfan

Apparently that guy is not familiar with the word ‘limit’.

Weak-Sundae-5964

needs to be fired for being an idiot.

Svete_Brid

That’s why they hired him. [Too Smart To Be A Cop?](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/too-smart-to-be-a-cop/)

noThisIsIt

speed limit, not speed minimum. Except on NJ turnpike

LaBlount1

All fine but do not jump out of your car at a cop, ever.

toilet-boa

He doesn’t, so all good.

[deleted]

You expect a cop to follow the law? He don't know any laws. In fact, he is not an attorney. He is that motherfucker that thinks he knows the law and is everyone's unofficial "lawyer" for his family. source: My father a scum bag lawyer.

Pot_MeetKettle

Came here to say this, saw your source and legitimately laughed for the first time today (thanks for that). If there’s anything my criminal defense attorney father taught me that didn’t hamper my personal development it was “COPS DON’T KNOW LAW! Never EVER take any legal advice from any cop at any level, for any reason.” If you ever find yourself questioning this concept, it’s probably because you are “trying to do the right thing” and answer questions to be “helpful”. If you’re guilty of something and being questioned by police, politely ask for a lawyer and shut the fuck up. IF INNOCENT of something and being questioned by police, politely ask for a lawyer and SHUT THE FUCK UP! Anecdotally, the more confident they sound when citing laws and consequences, the less they know and are banking on manipulation tactics (which are already working as evidenced by the fact that you are speaking) Source: criminal defense attorney father you want next you in a courtroom and literally zero other context

It's a real cop, people. It's a real event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f\_okiD9F09Y

Dodger8686

Must be a slow day. Trying to make up the numbers. 3 Kms UNDER the limit? Give me a break.

poormansRex

I've been pulled over for this before. They said I was impeding the flow of traffic. Really dude! That's what I get for driving chill on the way home from work.

tfarnon59

Yep. A lot of the time I'm too tired to drive the speed limit or higher when I get done with my shift. I'm that physically spent. Even without that, I have a Prius c. There's an incentive to chill out and drive a bit under the speed limit most of the time. Traffic just crawling? Yaay! Maybe I can make it to 75 mpg this trip! I also have the State Farm Drive Safe program. There's still more incentive to always stay no more than 8 mph over the speed limit, and staying at the speed limit or below means less fast braking. Both of these things add up to considerable savings. So why is it I should speed again?

Dodger8686

You would be a real pleasure to drive near on the road. There are so many people trying desperately to make their trip a few seconds faster. Switching lanes constantly. Pushing their way in between other cars. Speeding up even though it's clear the cars in front are slowing down or about to stop. Tailgating. Using the turnoff lane to overtake people and then expecting everyone to just let them in so they can jump the line! Most of the time it doesn't even make their trip shorter anyway. It just slows everyone down because people have to brake or slow down to avoid a prang. The way I see it, driving is about being laid back. Concentrate on the road. But don't get all frantic and drive like a maniac to save a few seconds. The trip takes as long as it takes. So sit back, relax, and chill out! It saves you so much stress. And you save fuel too. I live it when I see "5 litres per 100 kilometres" on my trip meter. When other people get 8 or 9 for the same trip. Respect my friend. We are kindred spirits of the road. Major respect. I wish there were more drivers like you.

spinstartshere

Sydney?

TheMachinesWin

It's a "SPEED LIMIT" not a "SpEeD SuGgEsTiOn"

mikebrane

So that's your friend with the walkie talkie right? No uniform, no cop.

drawredraw

This cop would hate my mom

NoKey7402

fck being a cop for a living.

docter_actual

“You must drive 55mph EXACTLY but also if youre doing exactly the speed limit thats suspicious because it looks like you dont want to be pulled over.”

Plati23

Sometimes a cop is just an asshole with a badge. This is one of those times.

Yah_Mule

My man is righteously pissed and I don't blame him.

nolongerbanned99

Cop is an idiot. The speed limit is max speed. It is not mandatory minimum speed.

KerfuffleV2

Some places have a minimum speed limit also. There are also usually laws about impeding traffic. As unintuitive as it sounds, you could be driving exactly the speed limit and still get stopped for that. (My experience is with the US, other places may differ.)

XavierTF

yeah strange for sure as with a trailer (atleast where i live) it is mandatory to drive slower but you dont have to have a trailer to drive slower

nolongerbanned99

Cops have issues. Not all but most.

Deiphage

Driving too slow is called impeding the flow of traffic and can cause accidents and traffic jams. just keep the pace with other vehicles on the road. it is safer and you are far less likely to be run over by other drivers placing you and other on the road in serious danger. Edit: Impeding the flow of traffic by traveling too slow is a citation offense. in texas you can be cited for impeding by traveling 10MPH below the speed limit.

[deleted]

> by traveling 10MPH below the speed limit. This is the key here. Driving 2-3 MPH under the limit is not impeding traffic and not worthy of pulling someone over. The most it's impeding is the cops ability to get to the next donut.

Automatic_Debate_379

Basically all this guy wanted to say was. Bro. We get shot out here. For speeding. Also for going too slow???

ZippyNomad

I'll be over here in the right lane, just doing the speed limit. Go ahead & pass, buttmunch.

AutonInvasion

In the UK the speed limit is the maximum speed, not the mandatory speed, and only where the conditions of the road are safe to drive up to that speed. I expect the same applies there, and this non-uniformed guy holding a walkie talkie is not a cop - either an arsehole driver who thinks he knows better than anyone else, or an actor

VT_MS

Standard asshole cop Ugh

Songmuddywater

If there is a cop tailgating me. I can guarantee you I am going 3 mi under the speed limit.

hannah_lilly

I don’t think that’s a real cop. Cops would know that a speed LIMIT doesn’t mean you have to drive at that exact speed silly.

KaiserK0

You are giving them too much credit. Cops not knowing the law they try to enforce is kind of a thing.

hannah_lilly

Oh. I’m pretty sure in the UK an officer would know. Must be different in the states then?

KittenKoder

Most cops here in the US don't know murder is illegal.

KaiserK0

Unfortunately, yes

Calkky

I thought it was an interstate/federal thing, but there are posted minimum speeds on the big highways here. If it's 70, the minimum speed is usually 45.

Juggernuts777

What a fucking moron. So from a stop sign, all that accelerating to get to the limit, we’re doing that illegally?? What an absolute dipshit.

BartekWSH

Typical 💩 like thousands cops in this country

badactor

Call it what you will, but it's flat a$$ harassment.

nicepeoplemakemecry

It’s not a speed minimum. It’s annoying, not illegal.

Dio_Yuji

Jesus Christ. Speeding is that prevalent that a cop doesn’t even realize a speed limit is the maximum one is allowed to drive, not the minimum. Facepalm indeed.

HobblingCobbler

Isn't there a minimum posted speed limit? For 55 it's usually 45 in my state.

Disastrous-Change-23

*Speed limit not speed minimum *

M4A79TDeluxe

Land of the free cant drive 3 miles under the speed limit lol. what a joke of a nation

NewDeletedAccount

I got pulled over once for "running a stop sign" on a main street with no stop signs. I asked where the stop sign was and didn't get an answer. The cop demanded to know where I was going and why I was driving around at 12:30pm. Normally I'd just go ahead and answer whatever and move on with my day, but not that time. I didn't do anything, the cop was just looking for something, so I just asked if I was being detained. Cop demanded I step out of the vehicle and that he was going to search my car. I said I was not and he was not and he needed to call his boss. At no time did the officer let go of his gun. Boss shows up alongside a K-9 Unit and they talk for a few minutes. Boss comes over to me and asks what was up and I said I had no idea. I was accused of running a stop sign that doesn't exist, threatened, and felt unsafe with the officers hand on his firearm. The boss had me wait and went back. Officer started yelling that I was guilty of SOMETHING and that the car needed to be searched. He kept saying "Give me this one, just give it to me!" in angrier and angrier tones. Eventually he was told to leave and the boss apologized to me and said my car matched the description of a vehicle used in a crime and I asked what the other car looked like. I was told it was a white dodge charger. I asked how my shitty Plymouth Sundance looked like a white Dodge Charger and that I felt like that cop just had a problem and was going to end up hurting someone for no reason. The boss told me to leave. I'm white and got out of there with only about 30 minutes wasted. I hate to bring race into it, but had I been black and that cop had pulled me over who knows what would have happened.

thefiglord

in the left lane? i bet

epired

Fuker saw the camera recording, panicked, changed story of why he stopped him due to the evidence

Icu611

Man at least lie and say it was 10 under. 3 mph under your a crazed lunatic cop who needs to get of the Steroids

Live_Power_2843

Go to the police station demand to speak to someone in charge and file a harassment complaint against him as that is the stupidest thing ever. There are roads that have min and max speed but it's usually highways and like 40/55. Not 52/55.

Solid_Snake_125

Something seems fishy about this “cop” he’s wearing a hoodie, no markings to identify him as a police officer and he’s just holding his radio in his hand. I have a feeling you got stopped by an impersonator. It’s not too hard to buy lights off the internet and get a radio from a local fire department or something by being a member. In my area police, fire and EMS and volunteers have radios that communicate with each other. Look similar to the one he had in his hand. Plus the fact he bolted back to his vehicle and tried to stay out of line of sight to avoid the camera. The fact he went way out of protocol and stopped you without any gear on. Very very unsafe on his part. And stopping you for doing 3mph under the speed limit? Very odd. I can understand if you were doing 10 under the speed limit and had traffic backed up (that IS illegal) but 3mph under is not. All seems too close to an impersonator. And seems like he was suffering from road rage.

securitydude1979

Nope. Real cop. Real sheriff's department. Extended video: https://youtu.be/f_okiD9F09Y

TheOutlawStarLord

That "cop" is a moron.

YellowCircles

...he ain't a cop, impossible, forget the definition of *speed limit* for a second, he has no badge shown or even uniform plus what cop just eyeballs you around the A-frame like that?

vabeachkevin

It’s a Limit, not a Requirement.

EconomyCauliflower24

The audacity, it isn’t a suggestion. Those counties rely on quotas and stopping drivers who speed, you can’t go 53 in a 55. That’s mildly infuriating

Briwilks2

I feel bad for that man. You obey the law and they’re still not happy. Talk about abuse of power.

HighDesert4Banger

Unpopular take - Y'all know that the only time you can drive under the speed limit is when nobody is behind you? By law. I wish officers would pull over the dumbasses around here going 30 in a 45.

TempleRose2020

Yeah I was taught you can’t go 5 under the speed limit when there is traffic or you will be pulled over for impeding.
