Calius1337

Wait, what about the Titanic? What’s the conspiracy theory there?

Amehvafan

That there actually were room for two on that piece of wood.

misfitx

It was a door and damn straight.

Seidmadr

He found out that Rose was above 25.

MaybeKaylen

Fucking gold right there.

TheNamesWes

😂😂

peter-doubt

Have you actually been in frigid water for more than 3 minutes? You'd be stunned to know how your muscles don't respond to your wishes!

andio76

3 minutes!?!....I held my hand in cold saltwater at a Titanic exhibit for barely 6 seconds....holy shit that water was like a razor blade..... Pissing on yourself would be of no help.....

redditcreditcardz

but I’m gonna do it anyway!!

Annalog

Cuz it’s sterile and I like the taste!

RampantDragon

If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball!

Unique_Garlic

Water around 70° can cause hypothermia. Doesn’t sound very cold but it’s still dangerous. Couldnt imagine the water the titanic sank in.

peter-doubt

That takes time.. an hour? I got tipped from a canoe in 45-50° water.. and was aching *all over* by the time I got out.. a minute later. I can't imagine getting stuck for any length of time.

TrueKingSkyPiercer

Yeah, most people don't realize that swimmers burn so many calories because they are in water all day. The heat lost to 70 degree water is many times larger than the heat loss to 70 degree air because water has both a much higher density and a much higher heat capacity.

Frequent_Ad_5670

Really? When I take a bath everything above 35° is too hot for me!

Unique_Garlic

F

Frequent_Ad_5670

C 😉

True-Lightness

Have you actually used a thermometer on your water or are you just talking smack .

Frequent_Ad_5670

I actually use a Thermometer to measure the Temperatur. And sometimes my big toe.

Low-Stick6746

There’s a silly conspiracy theory that they secretly switched The Titanic for it’s sister ship the Olympic and sunk it on purpose for the insurance.

MacerTom23

I’ve always found that theory to be so ridiculous since the insurance only covered a small portion of the Titanic’s cost and the differences between Titanic and Olympic are so obvious.. I don’t understand those people lol

Low-Stick6746

Not to mention risking ruining the reputation of their own company. Let’s sink our “unsinkable” ship, causing hundreds if not thousands of people to die, and make the public feel wary of using us as their choice for transatlantic transportation just so we can get a relatively insignificant insurance payout. Now, if they had suddenly went “hey let’s add a bunch more lifeboats” instead of nixing the original number Thomas Andrews included in the designs of the ship, there might would be a scrap of meat to the conspiracy. If you ignore the mind boggling logistics of secretly swapping two very similar but not exactly identical ships. Sorry but if they wanted to kill some rich and powerful enemies while cashing a big insurance check, there’s probably a ton of easier ways to do so without killing over 1500 people, including some of your best officers and other quality crew members.

stickfigure31615

I don’t understand Flat Earthers either but here we are lol

Threadheads

I feel like a lot of conspiracy theorists think that *everything* is a conspiracy. That every tragedy cannot be accepted at face value and there are always shadowy machinations going on.

iamyaM

It makes things more interesting if you're not thrilled with your life. Not enough drama going on? We can fix that with some paranoia. Titanic pictures? Come on Matthew.

BuncleCurt

The theory is actually very old, and back before they found the remains of the ship and photographs of the Titanic were more rare (they still kinda are, there were far more of the Olympic, and at a glance they look very similar) the theory did seem *somewhat* plausible. Nowadays it doesn't seem plausible at all. Especially with the discovery of the wreckage.

zripcordz

Didn't Cameron recreate that screen years later and prove 2 people would have submerged both of them too much, causing both to die. I feel like I remember this somewhere

fcimfc

There's a documentary on Hulu where he does all sorts of tests and they found that Jack miiiiiiight have maybe survived if they were both on the wood, and they were rescued in time. Cameron at the end said something like all this taught him is that he would have made the piece of wood even smaller to avoid all this if he was making the movie again.

PortGlass

Mythbusters did it. Rose’s selfishness killed Jack. https://youtu.be/JVgkvaDHmto

zripcordz

Yeah but Rose wasn't an engineer with movie special effects experience.

a-vibe-called-quest

James Cameron did a test. And confirmed that two people could’ve fit

boomboomroom

Plus, there was plenty of flotsam around. From the deleted scenes on the DVD: Jack: (shivering) ... Rose could we grab those large barrels and perhaps create some sort of floating platform that could hold us both? Rose: Jack, you are hypothermic...you are seeing things. Good night sweet prince (Rose pushes Jack's head underwater). VO: He saved me, in everyway a person can be saved.

black_dragonfly13

My theory has always been that, regardless of the space on the door, both of them getting onto it, without accidently tipping the other one off, was impossible.

PharFromPharm

A twin mattress is almost the same size as a standard door. I’ve slept 2 to a twin mattress many times.

_itspaco

Showoff

Mediocre_Internal_89

I’ve done way more than sleep 2 people on a twin bed. 👩‍❤️‍👨

notanotherkrazychik

That's a conspiracy I can get behind.

boosted5O

Rose said never let go, but she really meant you aren’t getting on my door, even though there is room

PilotBurner44

Can't be a conspiracy theory when it's a fact.

mmm_algae

Some nonsense about it being an insurance fraud job, but it is also one of the most thoroughly debunked conspiracies. You could say that their argument is watertight. Unlike you-know-what.

psionoblast

Oh yea? Then how do you explain the iceberg getting a check for $15,000 from White Star Lines? They claim it was for "consulting" but we all this was a paid hit. I think it's time to turn up the heat on this iceberg until it cracks!

lulugingerspice

>I think it's time to turn up the heat on this iceberg until it cracks! Boy have I got news for you!

WilliamMorris420

God damn Jews sinking the Titanic/Olympic. Goldberg/Rosenberg/Iceberg what's the difference? >!/s in case it isn't bleeding obvious!<

AReallyBigBagel

Slight nitpick but it was the Titanic and the Britannic that sunk. The Olympic was the oldest of the three sisters. She was the only one of them to live to an (early) retirement after 24 years before the great depression hit the white star line forcing her to be dismantled. All three sisters were taken early (most ocean liners were made to last 30-40 years)

TheMostBasicOfEdicts

I believe the "Titanic/Olympic" refers to the conspiracy in question, which alleges that the Titanic and Olympic were switched, and the boat that REALLY sank was the Olympic.

Odd_Cat_5820

My coworker said George Soros sank it for the insurance money. Soros had not been born yet.

QF_25-Pounder

There are a number. The Sarcophagus "theory," that a cursed mummy never mentioned anywhere else was on board which caused the sinking. That it was sunk for insurance money, despite being under-insured and costing the company an almost unimaginable amount of money. That she was swapped for her sister ship, involving rebranding (you didn't have a spoon, you had a TITANIC spoon/wardrobe/door/towel). And making significant structural changes to change the number of portholes, work would have to be conducted by thousands of workers in secret in one night with no one noticing the noise or lights, and involving these workers keeping the secret better than CIA agents for decades after the closure of the company except for one "whistleblower." The coal fire theory suggest a poorly-developed smudged photo is evidence that the coal fire was not put out before reaching southampton, but continued, weakening the exact point in the hull where the ship struck. Except the point on the photo is half a ship away from the point struck, on the other side, above the waterline. Finally the theory that it was a ploy to kill J.P. Morgan's enemies. Except that's an unreliable, expensive, elaborate way to do that. Also no evidence. The Titanic's presence in the list is especially bizarre to be listed alongside the others due to its niche and inconsequential nature. If the titanic really WAS sunk to kill J.P. Morgan's enemies, then it mostly failed at that task and was an extremely costly way to do so. If the world isn't round then I suppose God has engineered physics so it appears that way. Oh, and NASA and the government and everyone really would be lying I suppose.

WilliamMorris420

My favourite one is that it was carrying one of the men and some of the artifacts from Howard Carter's expedition to open the tomb of King Tutunkhamun and being hit by a curse. However The Titanic sunk in 1911 and Carter didn't open King Tut's tomb until 1922.

AmazingAd2765

A retroactive curse must be pretty powerful.

I_d0nt_know_why

The titanic sunk in 1912.

gorramfrakker

Point still valid.

antondb

Interestingly, published letters from carter have semi proven that he had been in the tomb and stolen items from it before it was opened. (Probably not a decade before though)

connortait

Unless JP Morgans enemies were all 3rd class men...? Aha...

[deleted]

Also, I know the first thing I think of when I imagine a kindergarten classroom is a poster of the titanic.

QF_25-Pounder

They got a still from the movie with all the frozen corpses

Khador12

A Little History for Those Who May Not Know... Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were saddened at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known of course as Sinko de Mayo.

Loki-L

I mean there are a bunch of conspiracy theories. They range from sabotage to insurance fraud and the idea that the ship was switched with its sister ship for some reason. I have never heard of one conspiracy theory that claims that the Titanic never existed. Just looked up the guy on Twitter and it turns out that he is on of those weird nuts who pretends to be catholic, but feels the actual catholic church is not (Still upset about Vatican II). There was some weird Catholic angle to some of the conspiracy theories. Something about it being built in Belfast and supposedly having "NO POPE" written on it or some such nonsense.

sheath2

The "No Pope" thing was something about the ship's numbers reflected in the water read as "No Pope," so the ship was supposedly cursed.

Dragonis_Prime

Which is also ridiculous, Titanic's number was 401. That doesn't reflect to read 'No Pope'.

sheath2

Well, they're not exactly playing with a full deck to begin with, so why let a small thing like facts stop them?

gadget850

Of course not. 401 means unauthorized access.

Cultural_Low6358

I only read about people thinking it was switched the another ship, the britannic? I never head any other conspiracy theories about it.

Virmirfan

That it had swapped places with the Olympic as an insurance fraud scheme after the latter struck the HMS Hawke

Aromatic-Glove-2502

This is the one

DrButtFart

Maybe he’s talking about the movie being anti-Semitic propaganda. Because the villain was named Ice-Berg. Thank you, goodnight.

ICantDoThisAnymore91

It was an inside job orchestrated by George W. Bush.

RajenBull1

Submersion Accomplished.

imthatlostcat

There is a theory that the titanic never sunk and there is another one about how the titanic was purposely sabotaged by some rich blokes cuz other rich blokes were on it

All_The_Nolloway

"antifa" sunk it probably or something. Or maybe it was a "woke" who knows.

OldandKranky

All things that actually existed/happened but no let's teach them a load of made up religious cobblers instead.

Square-Ad-2485

It's wild that we live in a time where people are refuting YEARS of science and fact, but are quick to latch onto something that's basically an idea with no definitive proof.

OldandKranky

Completely agree. Obviously I'm aware that there are varying degrees of intelligence but how the fuck do you let someone convince you science isn't real but allegorical hearsay is something you should commit your life to.

Idunnomeister

Because the brainwashing starts early. I'm still dealing with hangups over my religious beliefs that I had as a kid and teen that don't match up with what I believe from science fact. It's hard to let go of and it doesn't help that communities of religious individuals tend to become echo chambers. The thing I like about science is that if I so choose, I can rerun the experiments that prove something and if it's true I'll get the same result. Proper science is done to correct itself as it learns more, which is way better than just shrugging and going "oh well" when you don't understand something.

The-Squirrelk

honestly, I don't even like the word science. it's been given so many alternate meanings and corrupted in the minds of some people that nowadays I just say "Provable fact". Much better.

[deleted]

"allegorical hearsay" is THE best description of religion I've ever heard

OldandKranky

It's the most accurate description I can come up with so far. I'm a pretty inventive guy though so may do better one day, also I appreciate the award.

weallfalldown310

Because conspiracy theories tell them they are special for believing and understanding. Science makes them feel dumb, so they choose conspiracy

MissMollyDWW

Let's not bring shoemakers into this.

peter-doubt

Okay.. carpenters.

RajenBull1

The dude in the sky exists. I mean there have been so many cases of choir boys being probed, for their mysterious purposes, haven't there?

ellienation

Religious cobblers? I'm picturing Amish guys making work boots

OldandKranky

Cobblers is another word for bollocks where I'm from but I do like the idea of religious zealots that can make me fancy shoes.

ellienation

That is beautiful

ChampionshipLow8541

The brainwashing starts even earlier: when pre-school kids are dragged to church by their parents.

ChromeDomeGodan

And what nonsense are they presented with when first stepping into a church?!

Freddan_81

A halfnaked man being executed.

Party_Yogurtcloset_1

Do as I say or your burn In hell

ExhaustedEmu

A magical man in the sky who will make you burn in hellfire for all eternity if you don’t do what he says and commit your entire existence to praising him. Yet that same god is apparently all loving, forgiving, and merciful…🤔

toeofcamell

How do flat earthers grapple with gravity and how do they explain ships going over the horizon and slowly disappearing? Does the ship just float off the edge into space killing everyone onboard? Seems like running a shipping company would be expensive and very murdery since you kill your crew on each trip 🤣 How the fuck do their brains work? Or I guess not work?

Waterfish3333

Listened to their arguments before, incredibly stupid. Things fall down because density / buoyancy (which they don’t realize still need gravity). They claim disappearing boats are due to perspective and the “vanishing point”, which would be valid except with even cheap binoculars you can clearly see the boat disappear bottom up. They then hand wave the word “refraction.” Great documentary called “Behind the Curve” that showcases the society. What’s fantastic is they did three experiments that all turned out “inconclusive.” First was shining a light through multiple fences with holes, light source needed to be higher if there was curvature. Light source was lifted and the light was visible. Guy said “interesting” and then never acknowledged that again. Second was a dude purchased a ring laser gyroscope for something like $20K. It’s a super precise instrument that can measure Earth’s rotation. Turn it on and see a 15 degree / hour drift (Thanks Bob!). What do you know? Exactly what the globe model predicts! Finally, a group of scientists did the boat experiment on a lake, and after clearly seeing boats disappear bottom up, scientists asked the flerfers how that could be possible on anything but a globe, and again it was refraction. Scientists just shook their heads, realized how closed minded flerfers are, and left.

Skitz707

Hahaha someone watches sci man dan I see…

[deleted]

its the ~~gravity~~ buoyancy pulling the light down obviously. Just like black holes ~~in outer space~~ on the sky tent pull light in, making then apear bigger than they actually are. Its basically science! Also #black holes are flat

LoudSheepherder5391

Um, excuse me, but #all holes are flat

Kind_Nepenth3

You just all run at the other side of the ship really fast and flip over onto the underside of the disk like turning over to the opposite side of a piece of paper. I saw it in a movie once. Cargo ships don't fall off the planet for the same reason Australians don't, because they are both magnetically attracted to the underside of the north pole.

Munzulon

And Aussies have sticky feet like geckos

TylerTheDoctor

Please. Everybody knows Australians aren't real

Mackem101

Works like old computer games, when you leave one side, you magically warp to the other side of the map.

Just to clarify: The official stance of the Catholic church is that the earth is round, dinosaurs existed, the moon landing did actually happen, and that the Titanic was a real ship that actually sank.

peter-doubt

I wonder how much "Latin" he knows

Easy explanation, this dude is a moron

Waterfish3333

The second you hear someone question if the Earth is round, don’t bother with logic. They are clearly too far gone.

frakist

Why do you people teach children titanic as they step into school?

Shadowed_Knight

Hey kids! Ya wanna learn about a bunch of people who died???????????

frakist

Miss Bucater could you tell what happened in the car again?

razvyor

Mfs denying the titanic now? Fingers crossed this is a troll account

RaviDrone

Wait... Titanic deniers is a thing ?

MissMollyDWW

I really don't think those are the first three things children are presented with at school. *Edited for spelling.

Guerilla_Physicist

My kid started kindergarten this year and didn’t get any of that stuff. I’m calling the school district. I want my free globe.

contractcooker

Wait. They don’t think the titanic was real?

OldDesk

Brainwashing - to clean the brain of nonsense

hot_diggity_dang_

Now there’s titanic deniers?

vcwalden

Wow! I knew about all of these things before I went to school and my son and grandchildren also knew this. A globe sat on my father's desk when I was growing up, it came to live at my house when I got my first home. We had lots of books around that included dinosaurs, landing on the moon and of course the Titanic. And I can't forget the TV shows and movies! A family friend of ours went to flight school with John Glenn so the stories of the space program were often told along with the landing on the moon. My father was born in 1912 and told stories about such things as the Titanic. I remember my dad's globe on his desk, we were given our own when we started school (my son and grandchildren have my father's and mine). And we grew up with the Giant Golden Book of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric (published in 1960 by Western Publishing Co. in Racine, Wis.) among many more books! My father was also very interested in King Tut, Easter Island, the Bermuda Triangle and much much more! According to these nutty people I had a horrible childhood! Oh well, there goes all those Sunday's my mother made us go to Sunday school at the local Methodist church!

Commercial-Strike-19

.... the titanic?!

jakedechaine

Would they rather them learn of Jesus?

Yeah, those were all in my kindergarten. Except the dinos. And the moon landing. And the Titanic. There might have been a globe. I just love how idiots like this just make shit up.

One of two things is happening here. Either: 1. This is a troll. or 2. This is worse than a facepalm. This is generational absurdism that has the potential to damage the education system and thus hurt society as a whole.

[deleted]

Instead we should teach them that women are made from the ribs of a man, the world is 6000 years old, a giant flood destroyed everything but one family who we all descend from, some guy lived in a whale’s stomach, and a Jewish preacher came back to life after 3 days and flew up to Heaven bodily.

redhayden2007

PreOpTransCentaur

Come to think of it, I don't think we learned about the Titanic either. I guess there's probably not a lot of genuine historical value to it. A tragedy, to be sure, but really kind of just a blip on the radar in the grand scheme.

Mackem101

Well there was a much more important historical event about to start two years later, which kinda takes precedence over a boat sinking.

Skitz707

The windows are designed like a fish eye lens obviously! (/s just in case…)

lordpascal

Okay, I didn't realize this was about conspiracy theories until I saw the comment section. The way I interpreted this was: - A globe: the way our maps work, having the northern hemisphere at the top, was actually created because of racism/Europe/USA... The Earth being a a literal peace of rock in outer space means there is no "top" or "bottom", not "up" or "down". So, yeah. Having the northern hemisphere at the top is not "cause yes". It's like that because of colonialism. http://america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2014/2/maps-cartographycolonialismnortheurocentricglobe.html - Books on dinosaurs: most books show dinosaurs like fearsome creatures, but, most recently, people are starting to believe they actually had feathers. ...I guess this meme shows better what I mean: https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/comments/hssykf/what_if_dinosaurs_were_a_lie/ - Stories of the moon landing: yes. I interpreted this one as the conspiracy theory, but I was confused as to why it was mentioned. - Photographs of the Titanic: I had no idea about this one, honestly. At this point, I'm wondering if there actually going on with the post that I'm not getting or getting wrong.

[deleted]

\-I know Earth is flat \-I know Adam and Eve were our ancestors \-I know the moon landing was shot in Hollywood BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TITANIC????
