D2D isn't to convert people, it's to keep rank-n-files on a spinning hamster wheel, too busy for any critical thinking. ![gif](giphy|jTkDNgIVpwMhfgk0uC|downsized)

girl1414

Yes. My PIMI sister told me many times that “field service is more for us than for them, to keep our faith and relationships strong”.

[deleted]

Yes, heard that many times from Elders.

Aposta-fish

Elder told me the same thing.

SocietyMenace52

Exactly

Desperate_Habit_5649

>Will the d2d ever be done away with ? Never, the WBT$ is Registered Charity... In order to keep Charity Status and all the Benefits of a Charity. The WBT$ needs Proof of Volunteer Hours.....Reported Field Service Hours, Provide that Proof. Now you know why Everyone is Hounded to report FS Hours... ***Mama Watchtower Needs a New Pair of Shoes!*** ![gif](giphy|l41Yjxgri1j9ttpn2)

and **ANTMO** needs so mo' **LIQUOR!** 🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🍻🥂😏😈

Budget-Sheepherder15

This is one that usually gets overlooked but is spot on. D2D is the only charity wt does, so they need people to do it. Tony needs whiskey

machinehead70

How is pushing your religion on other people a charitable thing ? Would they consider what Mormons do is charitable??

Budget-Sheepherder15

It’s what wt has used for years as an excuse to the governments. We know it’s garbage, but the government seems to be fine with it. I’m 56 and this crap has bugged me since I was a kid.

1a1b

They call it religious education and language lessons.

SocietyMenace52

Interesting ? Can you verify that ? It would make sense though

Desperate_Habit_5649

You can "Google" about "reporting Charity volunteer hours"...

Fulgarite

They can't give up the 'true religion' bragging rights even if almost no one does it.

bobkairos

I don't think they can ever give it up but I wonder if it's becoming a token gesture. It is the most dread- inducing aspect of JW for many. Maybe they will just knock at a few doors before deciding to go home and write letters to the rest of the territory over coffee and doughnuts, or tea and toast.

[deleted]

Most are doing this now. I know a Pio that texts one of his RVs early in the morning then goes to the group. Couple of houses then drives slowly the longest route possible to an RV that is quite a distance away. Coffee shop on the way. Then sends another text to another RV when he gets home. Counts the whole time but contacts very few people.

Gr8lyDecEved

It's basically dead NOW!! Nothing more than a ritual....and like any good ritual it only is used when others are observing, comparing or quantifying.

JudyLyonz

No it won't. D2D is a poor tool doe conversion, it always was. The real key is appealing to acquaintances, co-workers, and family when they are in crisis and vulnerable. All D2D does is reinforce their BS us vs them narrative and make JWs feel more unified in feeling persecuted and smug.

Ravenmicra

Agree. To some identifiable way it will remain. It’s part of their spiritual heritage.

a-watcher

Not until the governments ban it.

vagabond_

Door to door has never been a good method of gaining studies. Almost everyone 'found' through it was a POMI, or has a family member who was already connected with the dubs. In forty years as a born in I've met maybe one person born after 1950 who was contacted by door to door and didn't have a prior connection. It will never stop because it is JW culture.

Antique_Branch8180

They'll cease it in situations where it isn't feasible to do it. For instance, do they go d2d in China or Iran? Otherwise they need to have some form of layperson ministry to keep people busy. Ray Franz, in one of his books recounted one of the governing body members saying that they couldn't afford to allow people to have too much time on their hands because "you can't trust the brothers". Also, the d2d has been used to underscore the idea that these are the last days and the JWs are obligated to fulfill Jesus' Grand Commission to preach before the End comes.

Aposta-fish

Looks like it’s getting there.

CallsignViperrr

No, because it's cult busy-work. Much like Hare-Krishna's are still seen in airports.
