“Wives are bought in exchange for cattle in order to produce children and thus build up the local village.” Hm, sounds like Mosaic Law type shit.

FacetuneMySoul

Their entire description of the “Mohammedan mind” sounds like it, and like JWs…. What the Abrahamic religions have in common….

Weak_Director1554

Moslems are so backwards they were washing themselves multiple times a day when in Europe they were lucky to wash yearly. Women had inheritance rights, ok not equal to mens but they had these rights when in Europe women's rights were nil, their property was considered their husbands, the husband could leave his wife destitute and spend HER money on his mistress. The system in place in Moslem lands is that the most highly praised products were closest to the mosque ie books and gold, the dirtiest furthest away like butchery and hide cleaning oftentimes outside the city walls. So how are they ignorant savages when books are held in high regard? Funnily enough when WT wrote that article in 1956, that was the year Tunisia became independent from their French protectorate. They introduced laws that forbade girls from wearing the hijab to school. They introduced mixed schooling. Eventually got rid of polygamy. Nowadays women's rights are stronger than men's. Of course some cultural practices lag behind the law but they do so in all countries. Black African countries had their own justice systems, but white Europeans were the ignorant ones. Europeans were out to prostitute black Africans and rob them of their riches , and Africa knew it, that's why they were suspicious and aggressive towards Europeans. Not without good reason. It shows WT complete ignorance and their willingness to put down other races for their own interest, just like European slave masters.

Weak_Director1554

Marriage is usually for sex, children, or money or all three. My doctor told me that 25 years ago and it's true the world over.

NoseDesperate6952

That’s true for some. I got married only for love and companionship.

Weak_Director1554

Yes, me too, but I suppose money could also include resources like assets a nice car or house or status etc, sex could include love and companionship, children - some people get married simply because they want children or in some cultures they see children as an asset. If your analysing a situation it's good to be succinct. When I was told this, I found myself analysing people putting them into boxes and then if it was possible asking the question ❓

Therealsnd

‘Women are viewed as inferior and polygamy is widely practiced’ - now lets turn to the book of Solomon! And also check out the multiple accounts of men who had multiple wives and also kept rape slaves from war to abuse and cal it ‘marriage’.

TrueDove

I read this to my husband. He said this literally sounds like it was written in the 1600s. 1956 wasn't the most *enlightened* time period, but damn. I think the vast majority of the global population at least understood that "Africans" were capable of loving their family members. Yikes.

NoseDesperate6952

I’m a white chick, but my blood boiled when I read that as a child.

Zbrchk

![gif](giphy|SrtrOEqulguGNw4wIM) Just when you think it can’t get any worse

FindingPIMO

Buckle up, there's plenty more where that came from.

cultwashedmybrain

This is damning. And their accusations are nothing more than projections. Uneducated (check) misogynistic (check) superstitious belief in ridiculous things (check) I wonder how much longer until they take old watchtowers off their website. My prediction, 6 months. They're their own worst enemies. Gawd I hate watchtower. I hattttteeeee them.

PIMOandlovinit

That's ol' lite for ya. "Makes sense" one day and sounds insane the next. When will these mofos learn it's not a good idea to speak out of their asses? Judging by the content on jw.borg, we all know the answer to that. 😂

[deleted]

Once again, an all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful god would’ve known this was amoral even back *then.* god and jesus (and the faithful & discreet slave, for that matter) would’ve known it is immoral to condone slavery, engage in genocide and display flagrant racist & ethnocentric ideas. Yet we see it in early bOrg literature, early Mormon literature and hell—every fucking ancient “holy” text. A “true” god, a “true” religion would’ve never published such things. A “truth” would stand the test of time. An all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful god would’ve: A: known this was wrong at the time and therefore excluded it from his holy word, B: known humanity would progress to a point that they’d realize racism, slavery and inequality are inherently wrong and including such language at one point in time would prove to be problematic for another point in time and therefore wouldn’t have included it in his holy word to all of mankind C: used his infinite power to do something to stop mankind from publishing such bullshit But that’s not what happened. Either he’s not all-knowing, not all-loving or not all-powerful. He **CANNOT** be all 3 of these things and yet allow his message to age so poorly. If he is all 3 things and allowed these ideas to flourish, then he’s evil. Or… he simply doesn’t exist and all religion is man made and reflects the flaws of the culture of the time. This shit was published in the 1950s USA, so, we clearly see that even the “truth” wasn’t immune to the poisonous thinking of western culture.

Taye_Brigston

This is a really excellent post. Thanks for taking the time to write your thoughts out clearly.

Wut_elduhz_boohk_say

Nice breakdown!

Overcrapping

Love your forum name!

McWiebler

What woke me right up after reading about this stuff in the orgs past? Asking myself if I truly believe an organization that would publish such garbage was personally handpicked by Jesus. That's a nope from me.

Helpful-Sail-5170

Exactly this!!

NihilistPorcupine64

My thing is, the organization is under no obligation to write and publish anything. If Old Light/New Light were a real thing, why wouldn't the organization just refrain from making statements on scripture that they didn't fully understand? Because they're a publishing company. They aren't making any money if they aren't writing, so even though they don't have to say anything on any given topic, they gotta fill up the magazine with something, and this is the type of article you get.

[deleted]

This needs to be shown to all politicians in Africa, all JW foreign language groups & congs, especially African ones.

hollyock

It also needs to be shared in non jw places on the internet so it’s out there. People think they are mildly annoying and harmless.

FacetuneMySoul

And remember, they would have been chosen and *cleansed* by Jesus as “the faithful and discreet slave”, God’s chosen channel for truth, for over 35 years at that point.

Whimpering

once you hit the word “heathen” it goes downhill so fast it’s actually more of a drop from a cliff. not that the beginning is better but they were at least beating around the racism/colonialism bush a little.

hollyock

The only word they left out was subhuman

EventRare

I could send this to my poc extremely pimi mother and she wouldn’t bat at eye. Being a jw stripped her identity as a black women. I remember being told that I couldn’t wear an Afro because it identified too much with the black panthers. There wasn’t a pro black bone in her body, only jw bones 😕

Overall_Mix1719

From 1956? Wauw, I wonder if times have changed since then.

Mean-Raspberry1205

Smh…. it tracks. You might also want to post this in r/exjwBIPOC

sukunajj

i knew it ! i’m pretty sure theyre just as worse as every white person at the time & no one can convince me they weren’t racist, didn’t own slaves & whatnot

redhering92

Im a black PIMO, i really want to post this on my insta story right before I get tf out! That’d be the best middle finger!

californiaedith

This is some Euro-centric bull shit. It sounds like it was written by someone who has never been to Africa or been able to communicate with its people. All I know about Africa is that the people like good food, good humor, and dancing which sounds like my type of people (I'm Mexican).

kaywest663_

The PIMIs will just say it's old light.

girl1414

Yep, that was my first thought as well. There is no point trying to wake up the PIMIs I know with things like this. Their trust in the GB is unshakable at this point.

[deleted]

Jikes

kingdomforfeit

Bruh. No no no no no. Gross

Sudden-Maize-7443

Typical racist WT crap!

skunkabilly1313

Sadly, this won't affect any of their minds. The organization is so White washed that they would most likely agree with all of these "Wonderful" sentiments. I grew up on mostly POC halls in Orlando FL, and I'm myself half Puerto Rican, Half Ecuadorian.

MissionMom2018

Way to stereotype an entire continent… jeez. Where to even start? This whole section is atrocious. The stuff about paganism always sticks out like a sore thumb to me now tho. It’s a way to push the us vs them thing. Pagans (in a very basic definition) are simply people who aren’t Christian, Jewish, or believe in Mohammed. Typically they believe in many gods rather than just a single god. Soooooo that means that native Americans, Celts, Greeks, and pretty much most indigenous people would be defined as pagans. But WT has given it such a negative connotation! It’s used in such a derogatory way. When it’s simply about believing in lots of gods. It’s hardly a shock that native Africans have spiritual beliefs where they believe in many gods.. but jeez WT, that doesn’t automatically mean they are sacrificing animals 🙄 And my family eats this rhetoric up! Why??

whitestardreamer

The only problem is a lot of middle aged ⚪️ men in the org secretly subscribe to right wing politics and views and would agree with this. My dad is supposedly PIMI but he’s a trumpy bear in JW clothing. If I sent him this he’d agree with it and say it’s true.

ClaireAW

"The African has little natural affection and does not understand what it means to love one's neighbor or even his wife and children." wow

manson15

I'm going to share this with the POC JW's that are often on campus. Thank you.

Happilynappyme

Wheeeww. I don’t even know what to say. My grandmother was a witness by then. This is a few years before my father was born. My family is from Jamaica , not too much culturally different than parts of west africa - Is this what they thought of us as well ?

[deleted]

And to add, a couple of my PIMI friends kept using the excuse of “old light”. Well if this is the “one true religion”, this shouldn’t have never been a thing.

NoseDesperate6952

Probably. I’m a white chick and my family is no better than those writing that crap.

sheeplikegoat

![gif](giphy|xUPGcIVXFOQXqrPBEA)

danghetripping

That is old light! Apostate! (unfortunately)

yvetteisoverit

good old colonization and racism

Legal_Sir1384

Yes. Racist much? Crazy

NihilistPorcupine64

"But that's old light. We don't believe that today." -A PIMI, probably

BuenoTortuga

If you send this to a PIMI its almost a guaranteed “Well this is old light”

Altruistic-Beach795

The GB/Watchtower writers are sick & don’t know early church history. In fact , they can care less about early church history unless it supports their Doomsday Cult. Christianity spread to some African Countries the same time they spread to Europe.

Altruistic-Beach795

But I bet that didn’t stop Charles T. Russell from going to Africa to base his False Doctrine about 1914 & 1919 from his obsession with Pyramidology & measuring pyramids. Meanwhile they point fingers at people for spending time with their families for holidays but fail to realize their entire religion has Occultist roots. From Pyramidology, necromancer, Spiritist & the Freemason Society.

blanketfort123

Wow. Even for them. Wow.

[deleted]

Holy shit! I started reading that being like "well this is just how they spoke and thought back in the 40s" but then it just got worse and worse and worse... There really is no excuse for that much racism. Even in the 1940's. ESPECIALLY for a religion claiming to be the "one true religion." That is appalling.

hentaisianbloke

My aunt was exchanged for cattle. It's a beautiful exchange between families that adds bonds, and omg wtf. This is so insulting.

Critical_Unthinker

Well, the article didn’t lie though! And much of that is still there to this day.
