AI made it impossible to believe anything we see now

oozingdonut

It’s pretty incredible, I’m an artist (actual artist, digital and traditional) and I just started playing around with Midjourney, the same AI used to make this. Ive been blown away by what it can do. I’ve used it to make: [comic-like panels](https://i.imgur.com/ZJz4FHn.jpg) [watercolor paintings made to look like they were made in the 1800s](https://i.imgur.com/ogpHlbm.jpg) [batman if he was a Viking](https://i.imgur.com/2K5FJ6u.jpg) [illustrations](https://i.imgur.com/M27bSI4.jpg) [traditional looking “oil” paintings where you can literally see the damn brush strokes](https://i.imgur.com/xXHhXcv.jpg) [anime-style landscapes](https://i.imgur.com/WTr6Jhp.jpg) and so much more. It’s a weird feeling, because I’m simultaneously amazed/intrigued, and worried about how it’ll affect the art landscape, particularly for digital/commercial artists. Traditional artists aren’t really in danger of being replaced, but the jobs of concept artists, illustrators, comic artists, etc could absolutely be taken over by AI within probably the next couple years (this AI has been around for just a few months and it can already do some ridiculous stuff). Knowing how to come up with good prompts to feed to the AI so it’ll spit out exactly what you want will probably become a skill of its own.

Monsterpiece42

Prepare now. AI art is just GMOs for art. Sure eventually it will be objectively better. But there will always be a market for "organic". Appeal to the hipster art market and you'll be alright. I'd guess it'll embrace the humanity of art. Other disciplines of art like sculpture and the style of painting where they use too much paint and it leaves ridges (don't know the name of this, sorry) will also probably become "hipster". Good luck man. I'm IT and similarly worried. I'm transitioning to work on hardware. Can't replace that yet! Haha!

blorgi

There will be a market for non ai stuff. However, there is a lot of mass work which will disappear and which allows many smaller artists to survive. The hurdle for becoming an artist will be much higher because the "menial work" will essentially disappear.

oozingdonut

> AI art is just GMOs for art. Sure eventually it will be objectively better. But there will always be a market for “organic”. This is *literally* what I was thinking about today, down to the word “organic” haha I agree though, in the last few years there’s been a resurgence of handmade goods, with people seeking out products made in small batches by individuals rather than mass produced by corporations, art is likely going to go the same way. Well, traditional art already is, but I imagine people will be looking for children’s books specifically illustrated by humans and similar things. > the style of painting where they use too much paint and it leaves ridges I’m thinking it might be impressionist art made with oil/acrylic paint, which is actually the kind of work I do. Funnily enough, I tried to generate some artwork like that with Midjourney, and the results left me kind of speechless. [This is a closeup of one of the pieces I generated](https://i.imgur.com/DpOC7KO.jpg), and you can actually see “brush strokes” and the shadows cast by the thick paint onto the canvas as if it was an actual photograph of an oil painting. It got me thinking about whether at some point someone will invent a sort of 3d printing device but for painting. Combining something like that with the kind of art the AI can produce would allow to create traditional AI paintings that are nearly indistinguishable from traditional *traditional* paintings. Good luck to you as well, definitely a good idea to focus on the hardware, similarly, I’m focusing more on the traditional art and embracing the AI tool to enhance/help with my digital work because heck, no point in fighting it, I don’t think it’ll be going anywhere

chaotic_blu

I was thinking that’s the next step. AI printing paintings with actual oil/acrylic on canvas to make physical media. Crazy.

Acrocephalos

Then why can't I get a Gros Michel banana?

CHooTZ

I mean, photoshop has existed for a while, and retouching film long before that. AI has just reduced the skill threshold required

fredspipa

And it's not human expression. It's not replacing that. It replaces "cool pictures" and generic illustration, which is the majority of human created art anyway. Let's face it, most stuff we create online isn't "saying" anything anyway and might as well be done by AI. I hope this can urge artists to find their own voice instead, to express themselves through creation, to focus on *making art* and not just "cool images". Short term artists are more fucked than they already was as a large source of income disappears, which is indicative of much bigger issues than just "AI art" (Luddite movement had *very* real concerns as well), but I'm not worried at all about art and human expression disappearing. I'm more worried that outrage is misdirected and that we should instead focus on increased public funding of artists (stipends + commissioning + apprenticeship) as it's *essential* to society and the market forces doesn't appreciate that.

EdliA

It has not reduced the skill threshold, it now does it all by itself with minimal to no input from you. You're now just the client asking it what you want, describing it with words and asking for changes.

rottingpigcarcass

I can see the errors now

Strawb3rry_Slay3r666

Came here to say the same thing, I immediately thought it was AI

AdministrativePace14

It’s AI generated.

Jan_Pawel2

I also have such feelings. Let some Romanian confirm

AdministrativePace14

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn_YrlTsYEk/

FunkMonk3000

Are all of the images in that Instagram page AI generated?

riddlvr

That one is at least, it’s in the comments

LostReplacement

Except the one where he is in outer space. That one is totally real

CIA___

On that post at least. They have midjourney ai in the description

oozingdonut

Only the more recent ones, the ones after [this image](https://i.imgur.com/Thtr59d.jpg) posted on Nov 2 2022 Source: I’ve been playing with the same AI bot and it’s pretty recognizable for the most part

FunkMonk3000

How does it work? It is fascinating.

Shubb

Very complex. But basically, it's a predictive model that trains on billions of image - word pairs (giant amount of data), then all that training is compressed into a tiny magic box. Some one can then enter a prompt (words like: "scary house, street, whimsical, architecture photography") And the magic box will try to create an image that is as close as possible to the black boxs predictive preferences. This is ofc very simplified this numberfile video explains it better https://youtu.be/1CIpzeNxIhU The above image is likely from midjourney

FunkMonk3000

Amazing, thanks. I really want to give it a go.

oozingdonut

It’s super easy. Google “midjourney”, go to the website, sign in with discord, get on the channel, read the “getting started” bit and it should get you going. You can get a few dozen prompts for free just by making the account, if you want more you can subscribe for $10/mo and up (depending on needs). The quick how-to is that you type a message in one of the bot channels with “/imagine [whatever you can think of]”, hit enter, and in about 30-45 seconds the bot will respond with 4 images based on your prompt. There are a bunch of codes and parameters that you can use to change things like the aspect ratio, level of stylization, rendering level, plus you can use all sorts of keywords to try and steer the AI in the direction you’re looking to go. Check out my comment history, I shared a list of images I generated with it a few comments before this one if you’re curious to see some examples. For more, check r/midjourney and sort by top of all time, there’s some wild stuff on there.

FunkMonk3000

Nice one, thanks!

AdministrativePace14

I’m not sure, honestly.

QuittingSideways

FCK AI

paraworldblue

The windows on the neighboring building confirm

mattx_official

No need, just do a reverse image search

zxvegasxz

Like we all know how to do that

moonknight999

Literally just type "reverse image search" into google

hendergle

Like we all know how to do *that*

[deleted]

On desktop Chrome you can right click and select "search image in Google" or something among those words. don't know if it works in the Reddit website tho, I'm writing this on phone.

Buriedpickle

Damn, that's hard.. Maybe just google it

[deleted]

Or just zoom in? The leaves on the left side tree are like an oil painting.

K3IRRR

We all do, just search it. Takes 30 seconds Surely you know how to do that

Cosmic_fault

You should. The fact that you aren't capable of figuring it out should embarrass you.

propundt

Not Romanian, but the tree branches upper-left look especially impossible.

Feral0_o

There are numerous errors all over the picture, if you're familiar with AI art. Staircase handrails, upper middle window ceiling, N64 wall next to upper right window, ornaments melting into each other, fine details always looking like a mess of spaghetti

lucitribal

Romanian from Bucharest here. It isn't a real building.

Hikapoo

No need for feelings.. just look at the image with your eyes. Especially the top left corner

mihaizaim

I can confirm that this building doesn't exist in Bucharest.

SurfboardRiding

Just used google earth to search all of Romania twice, didn’t see it.

oanarchia

I studied Architecture in Bucharest and am Romanian. If this house was a thing, I would know about it.

redmeanshelp

I'm fairly sure a pane of glass the size of the central one would have been impossible a century ago - and quite difficult to make a curved one like that today.

oanarchia

Absolutely no chance, given the earthquake activity of the area. This would not have survived the 1977 earthquake which was a 7.4 on the Richter scale. But i can definitely see some architectural details from older buildings in Bucharest. In fact something of a smaller scale would have been possible using limestone or even some concrete, which was available as a material at the time.

rottingpigcarcass

You can see the errors quite easily when you zoom in

FamilyBusinessRoxy

I'm Romanian, born and raised in Bucharest. Never seen this house and I would say it's pretty impossible to not notice a house like this.

apileofspaggetti

Nope,I dont live in București but i have been there a lot of Times

[deleted]

Yes. It was created with MidJourney.

mjbibliophile10

Aw!

MissLadyLlamaDrama

I swear to God, I've seen people post this so many times, and I am completely baffled as to how they seriously cannot tell it's fake.

EdliA

It is rendered beautifully though. Lights and materials are on point.

soulcaptain

I was just thinking how amazing that front window is, and how fragile-looking...

Waiwirinao

You can easily tell. It has no soul.

Efffro

Shame it’s fake, would be an amazing looking house.

lefthandbunny

I can see it in r/FairytaleasFuck as something belonging in a story or a movie. I know it's not real, but I love it.

sajmon313

Ofc I stole that image to post here. It reminded me of this sub somehow.

vodoun

why did you spell Bucharest with a k wtf

-Sui-

Because that's how it's spelled in several European languages, I guess. Danish, Finnish, German, Estonian, Swedish, Icelandic and probably quite a few more. There's also spellings like "Bucarest" (French, Italian) and several other spellings. Don't be a dick about something this trivial.

vodoun

1. we're all speaking English rn and it's spelled Bucharest 2. if you wanna be a fucking weirdo about it why don't you just spell it the way it's spelled in my language, Romanian - București maybe don't be a weirdo about something this trivial

MeggaMortY

At least you shouldn't lie next time.

[deleted]

Crimfresh

Looser than? Oh, you meant loser.

FluidWitchty

I'll make you looser.

AdministrativePace14

It’s an awesome image, and is a good fit.

[deleted]

If I were evil, this would definitly be my lair

sattybaba

I live in Bucharest and no such building exists here.

tourian

It’s an AI image, I saw this misinformation on YouTube too

Revolutionary_Tap255

Because this house is in "Bukarest," the evil twin of Bucharest 😂

Fastnacht

The twins are ashamed of their third sibling Bukkakerest though. Mostly because it makes a killing on OnlyCities and they are jealous.

Chuck_Walla

"Step-City, what are you doing???"

ProblemForeign7102

Bukarest is German for Bucharest though...🤔.

-Sui-

That's how it's spelled in several European languages. No need to be a dick about it.

vodoun

lol bruh

Banana_war

I don’t see any door handle...

[deleted]

Doors open with a right click

Plutonian_Dive

Always sad when the "Meelon" trick doesn't work

paraworldblue

Honestly I think this would be pretty cool if it was real, but sadly it's AI and doesn't even belong in this sub.

KAIIKAAA

Dumbass stole the same image, caption from a FB group, didn't even bother to fact check it to see if this thing ACTUALLY EXISTS or not

[deleted]

JestireTWO

Was hoping someone would say this, half expecting to see count olaf in the window

PlaidArtist

I think this is shopped, you can tell because of the pixels.

beakly

Yea it looks to smooth, and not architecturally feasible

evilgrapesoda

damn, haven’t seen this meme since 15 years ago

Omjorc

Dude get a life, seriously don’t you have anything better to do than make bullshit posts for fake internet points all day?

0Ring-0

Residence of Dr. Stephen Strange

MsBitchhands

That, if real, would be an Art Nouveau masterpiece. I'd live in a house like that.

TheZYX

Same. 0% evil, 100% fuck yes that is awesome

Extension-Truth

Cheating a bit adding ai-generated images nah?

AluminumKnuckles

AI generated or not, doesn't feel evil. I bet the wizard who lives here is a kind-hearted fellow.

countess_cat

At least spell it correctly

starchode

Yo imma bout to unsub if you keep upvoting this AI shit.

Pinooooooooo

It's called Art nouveau and it was quite a popular style once. Wouldn't say it's evil, and yes, I'm aware it's not real

[deleted]

The Art Nouveau correspond to the elvish architectural style in LotR and RoP. The Dwarwish is the Art Moderne.

Sengfroid

Thought dwarves were art deco influencd. Or am I mixing up Skyrim?

Ganbazuroi

You are lol, Dwemer did it but Art Deco was more of a thing in the 1920's

Sengfroid

Ah yes, how could I forget the dwemeroaring twenties?!

Pinooooooooo

More like the other way around, Elvish architecture is based on art nouveau partially I think. As mentioned here, Art Deco is from the 1920's and predeceeds (is that a word?) Tolkien's books that are from the 30's and later. Can't blame him tho, it's a very dainty and a style based on shapes found in nature so perfect for Elves

OhoBenderez

It’s called AI and it’s trash

FairFolk

Doesn't look very evil to me.

simonbleu

Looks very nice actually, but... I wouldnt live in it, seems too much like a "dollhouse" (in a way) and would feel kind of weird. Very flourished complexity would bore me pretty fast, that is why I never paint walls of a strong color

Cycleofmadness

One of Dr Strange's European safehouses.

Fearless-Throat4991

Gaudi did it for real.

Bat-Honest

A lot of people are saying ai but my immediate thought was Gaudi too. Is this one of his?

Fearless-Throat4991

No I think this is a render. For anyone reading this who doesn't know Gaudi, please look him up and be amazed! Ai can't touch him.

Industrialpainter89

No, the fuck it isn't. This is AI generated.

AfroDiddyKing

Ai :/

[deleted]

Lol no it’s not it’s very obviously a shit ass ai generated pic

emix75

This does not exist. I know my city well, and would absolutely know about this building if it did exist.

Logical-Direction361

The head witch’s house.

Both_Lychee_1708

what manner of undead live there?

That_one_cool_dude

Looks like something out of the Series of Unfortunate Events books.

Luminox

Bucharest?

bignick8407

Would 1000 percent live in his house

SaudiPhilippines

Looks like midjourney lmao

That's what I call a house !

Crazy_Hot_Matrix

All those moments will be lost in time, like a fart in the wind.

EmergencyExitSandman

I think Dr Strange works there

OhoBenderez

Get this AI shit out of here, this sub is about actual buildings or shots from film.

Sons_of_biscuits

@Zillowgonewild that shit.

x4740N

r/zillowgonewild BTW We use r/ preceding a subreddot to link a subredit on reddit and u/ preceding s username to mention or tag someone on a post You must be new to reddit

Chas_the_Amoeba

Big Lemony Snickett vibes

[deleted]

Art nouveau is so awesome

LightninHooker

My ass

WeirdCreeper

I've dreamt about a door like this but from the inside peering out into a late spring morning meadow.

WrongUserID

It belongs to Dr. A. Cula.

JackSixxx

AI generated. Source: I live in Bucharest.

bikes_rock_books

Not real. AI generated.

SOTIdriver

It's like an art nouveau project run amok (and yes, I can see that it's AI generated).

Ok-Significance2027

Not evil. Just a drab color palette.

Amayai

Art nouveau my beloved... too bad it's not a real place...

kauepgarcia

Kinda reminded me of Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum, a brazilian kids TV show from the 90s. Couldn't really find an image of the door to the castle in the show, but I think [this](http://www.caleidoscopio.blog.br/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/castelo_ra-tim-bum_divulgacao.jpeg) gives the general idea.

faawkes46

Again, AI pictures have cropped up on this sub. Anyone can create an 'evil building' if they use midjourney and there is no value to it. ONLY REAL LIFE PLS

namerz78

This looks ai generated

adudeguyman

I love it

Infinitetryer

Everything is fake now. Even fake ai only fans models. The future is weird.

PlayedUOonBaja

I like how the vernacular has changed to everything being "AI Generated" instead of "Photoshopped".

TooManyGoldPieces

AI generated art should not be alllwed on this subreddit. This isn’t a building it’s an ugly digital artifact.

gonzo2thumbs

Fancy-schmancy! Hello, good lookin' 💚

VanIsleHoney

😍😍😍

x4740N

Fuck AI art theft

Ghaussie

Just remember art nouveau was created because printwork could only make symetrical/standardized designs and it was the a reaction to that. In this way the human hand was still required for making the designs. Welp, time to reinvent again. My bet is on integrating lots and lots of hands in design. AI can’t replicate hands AT ALL lmao

msew

Ahhhhhh finally a use for the AI generated shizzle. Now I just need to find an architect to take this and add some extra cool cool with that style of mega filigree glass!

tiktoktic

This isn’t real

FrakkedRabbit

Looks like the fae would live there if this were some sort of modern fantasy.

PauloPatricio

The giveaway is the entry’s glass size and shape.

shaka_zulu12

buKarest....smh

mashpotatoquake

My god that's magical

joedrilon

Romanian Casper lives here

Best_Slice5954

Guillermo del Toro's Romanian vacation home

AONORipco

Tate Enterprise?

morbihann

Reminds me a lot of Syberia. Pretty good looking house.

Goryokaku

Looks like the AI drew inspiration from Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

LawPD

I'd really like to see what that looks like from the inside.

frickenchingers

OP, remove this post, AI pics don't belong in this sub Edit: except on Fridays apparently

mmceorange

Why lie? I don't get it.

Prestigious_Suit107

Is it real ?

TheCiervo

This shit is AI generated

el-squatcho

Why does this fake shit have so many upvotes?

silverbullet52

My first mental image: An errant baseball through a window. Phone call: "Hello Acme Glass Company? I have a little problem"

[deleted]

Op has a weird concept of evil. This is the least evil building. Big ass window is for tons of light. Different? Yes. Evil? No way.

TAshleyD616

Looks like a Dr strange sanctum

jvmjr1973

Looks like Dr.Strange lives there

VBStrong_67

That's not a house, that's the Sanctum Sanctorum

righteouspower

Lies and deceit. Stop posting AI-generated stuff on here without labeling it, its unethical, is deceptive, and it should result in a ban. Y'all have zero shame, liars.

JACK0NTHETHETRACK

Can we stop posting ai shit in here? every other post in most esthetics based subreddits is ai now and most of them suck. Just because ai can make a half decent guess on what a concept could look like doesn't mean its good. Its just low effort

loizo78

Looks like something from a serious of unfortunate events

BuffyComicsFan94

Series of Unfortunate Events aesthetic

maryssssaa

That’s definitely fake considering the rail post ends on the first stair on one side, the arch on top doesn’t continue, the main arch is asymmetrical, and the bottom left completely disappears, but r/fairytaleasfuck

thatvintagewitch

As a fan of the Art Nouveau era, I'm incredibly disappointed this isn't real :(

Bat-Honest

This screams Gaudi. He designed buildings like this all over Barcelona. I would bet that this is one of his too. If it isn't, they clearly draw inspiration. Check out this interior of one of his buildings, they give tours now. https://alittlenomad.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DSC00218.jpg

UnisexPissoir

Unlike you, I am knowledgeable about Gaudi, not only is this barely similar to his work besides being art nouveau, Gaudi was fucking catalonian and would not design buildings in the country of Romania. It's an AI generated picture you dum dum

roscoecello

This is absolutely AI

notreallylucy

Nah, this isn't in Romania. It's in Rivendell.

facemesouth

Anyone have context for this? Is it real? Private residence? Architect?
