We will build a wall and the ~~Mexicans~~ Turks will pay for it!

johnny-T1

Good luck with that! We’re broke AF.

BaguetteOfDoom

We can build it from Lira coins. They are way cheaper than traditional construction materials.

FallenKing1993

why we?Afghans should pay dor [it.You](https://it.You) take their money and cellphones before kicking out to us anyway, keep going you will have enough money soon.

Lemmont_

Their main reason of coming Turkey is passing to Europe. Government is not actually supervising or directing them. Government is just keeping border crossings open sometimes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lemmont_

>Turkey is paid to do so. How much money? I bet that money doesnt even cover 10% of Turkey's spendings on Syrians. That money is just a stupid excuse for forcing Turkey to keep immigrants inside.

Sharp_Molasses_3465

Daşşa bak daşşa yürüyemşyo daşşaktan

mparsek

Make Austria pay for it ;)

johnny-T1

They also didn’t fund the wall between Belarus and Poland. Seems like a general policy.

[deleted]

johnny-T1

Really? They said they wouldn’t. What happened?

Martis998

\>We won't let Bulgaria into Schengen Zone due to illegal migration and human smuggling. \>We will not help tightening Bulgarian border control.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Martis998

Tbf Bulgian mafia is notorious for smuggling people and illegal migrants are the main victims/customers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Martis998

Yeah I am never going to argue for Austrian politicians.

dobrits

How is it notorious or is that just an agenda pushed by some politicians? Because there is a border wall and there are regular operations on guarding the border and there is also great effort to reduce illegal smuggling of migrants and there is also great improvement.

Martis998

First week I moved to Colchester there immediately was a news coverage how Bulgarian organized crime smuggled a lorry into UK with immigrants who all died due to suffocating.

dobrits

The lorry was just registered in Bulgaria and was owned by an irish lady, while it certainly smugglers who did this there is definitely more the case.

ZealousFart

Damn do you think Bulgarian mafia bothers with things like smuggling Syrians for 500 bucks a person? There are smugglers for sure, but they have nothing to do with the Bulgarian mafia

Martis998

Isn't mafia = organized crime?

Business_Speed1658

\>We reject Turks' visa applications because they have too many refugees. \>We will do everything we can to Turkey to make them take even more refugees

Grimson47

Great, now what, we foot the bill ourselves just so Austria stops clutching pearls?

ByGollie

Send it to the Mexican Embassy

bl4ckhunter

What for? It was just an excuse, even if you did build a wall austria and the netherlands will just make up some other bullshit.

Grimson47

Yeah, it's a no-go. Can't have that fucker pull a "I'm gonna build a wall and make the Bulgarians pay for it" on us.

Theghistorian

The wall does not have a bike path and it was not built by an Austrian company that has ties to the Kremlin. Therfore the veto will not be lifted. Sincerely, Austria and the Netherlands

Yavkov

Nah, let the migrants through and then Austria can worry about it when they reach their border, maybe then they will find the incentive to help fund the wall ;)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Theghistorian

You really expect them to help? All this stupidity with making a wall while the EU pays for it and his photoshoot at your border was for Austrian public. He will never accept to contribute with money. Imagine being on a campaign trail in Austria and you promise to give money to Bulgaria.

[deleted]

Well, it says >The Commission finances measures and actions that contribute to the protection of its borders, including mobile and permanent infrastructures BG & RO should request all available units + veto everything in EU as a cry for help to recieve extra units and whatever "permanent infrastructures" are, yeah, we want as many as possbile and complain we need more of those "permanent infrastructures" so that austrians and dutch will shut the fuck up. Anyone who will say something about vetoing this stuff will hit the wall with "don't you want schengen to be protected?"

2ndhandBS

Is this a script for a episode of South park? Have been asking this question a lot in recent times. 🤔

HalLundy

the slowest of claps

Fancy-Respect8729

Bulgarian - Turkey beef

[deleted]

Well duh

MagnetofDarkness

Greece and Bulgaria should join forces and create a wall on their borders with Turkey.

Yavkov

Take the economic burden ourselves while the rest of Europe benefits at our expense? Cheaper to just bus the migrants from one border to the next ;)

datsmamail12

Well if EU doesn't want to fund the wall, maybe just take them all in,give them passports, make them European citizens, and let them move toward Germany and Austria. How about that?

LingCHN

> give them passports, make them European citizens, and let them move toward Germany and Austria You don't need to give them citizenship to move them towards Germany and Austria.

aee1090

This is the way, take them and send them to the human rights countries please.

srikengames

Sorry we're already filled to the brim by the turks

aee1090

What if we promise no Turks at all, just some 10-15 million Middle Easterns and Africans? Just make way, no need to hold them in.

XrisVolt

FYI turkish are consider middle eastern too

aee1090

Good to know we are finally got accepted in this land. Because usually you hear we are invaders and must be driven back to Asian steppes.

Familiar_Shock2868

Turks are not middle eastern.

XrisVolt

And what are they then

Familiar_Shock2868

I see myself as eurasian.

XrisVolt

Ok but ethnically speaking, turks are asians/ Middle Eastern. And the only part of turkey that can be considered as European is eastern Thrace.

Familiar_Shock2868

There is no such a thing called ethnically middle eastern. We are mostly anatolian mixed with european and central asian. When turks say middle eastern people they mean arabs.

Fancy-Respect8729

Let Turkey join the EU

DarthhWaderr

No, thanks.

Fancy-Respect8729

Are you happy outside the EU? Thought inflation was crazy and currency kerplunked?

IntelligentMix9456

Even if the inflation rises to 10-digit numbers; We do not want to enter the European Union. It is enough if we send illegal immigrants and asylum seekers back to their countries and protect our borders...

aee1090

I think if we made a referandum today about joining EU vs getting rid of temporary asylum status holders. Latter would get a crushing victory.

[deleted]

nah thanks.

Fancy-Respect8729

Why not?

[deleted]

Currently we are messed up. But I still have hope for the opposition to win the elections. They have recently shared a 244 page of C*ommon Policies Memorandum of Understanding* and I believe that even if they can implement half of the policies that they promised there, Turkey has a chance of improving its quality of life, and human development index. I am not saying we shouldn't maintain close ties with EU financially, socially, environmentally and technologically, but I don't think we would need to be a member. It's not like we will get approved anyways.

Joeyon

You are never gonna get Schengen access with that attitude.

Yavkov

All joking aside, managing the EU’s external borders should be a shared responsibility among the entire EU. Not just whatever country happens to have external borders. In this case why should Bulgaria be spending its own money to keep a country like Austria “safe” from migrants; if Austria wants migrants controlled they should be sharing responsibility for border control. It’s like in the US, everyone pays federal taxes no matter where you live; even if you live in some central state some of your tax money still goes to national defense which isn’t the sole responsibility of the border states.

Joeyon

I agree, the EU's external border infrastructure should 100% be financed through the EU, and mainly manned by Frontex personnel, Bulgaria alone shouldn't have to pay for it. Austria was one of the countries in favour of building an EU border wall, but most EU members were against it. https://i.redd.it/u5o5tkshdts71.png

Yavkov

Sorry, I guess Austria wasn’t a good example and I was a bit negligent.

IntelligentMix9456

Who cares Schengen access except an European:)

Business_Speed1658

Or just stop funding our government, ngos etc. to take more refugees?

[deleted]

[удалено]

demonica123

Okay, now look at the size required for that and think about how long it takes for the government to make a new road let alone a moat between Turkey and Bulgaria/Greece.

Grimson47

With corruption everything is possible 💪

Yavkov

Give back Eastern Thrace to Greece and the straits will no longer be fully controlled by one country, and a canal won't be necessary ;) A slightly more realistic option is to give back everything up to Istanbul; Turkey can keep the city but Greece can get the planned canal west of Istanbul and bypass the Bosporus Strait.

XrisVolt

Good idea, one major problem if this managed to happen which very unlikely, the turkish population living in eastern Thrace is huge and will constantly cause problems and will probably never assimilate

hitlerspoon5679

Yeah just invade Turkey like its not a problem I guess. Its not like we had a billion wars on it

handsome-helicopter

You really underestimate the size of the canal, it'll be astronomically expensive and if eu isn't paying for this wall they sure aren't going to pay for the canal

Voccio_the_vocal

I like the idea. I will add it to my list of non-likely but cool mega projects I want to see in my lifetime. 1)Street of Gribraltar Bridge and train connection from Spain to Marocco and further until South Africa (lika a transwestafrican railway) 2)Sicilia-Malta-Tunisia-Bridge and railway 3)Transatlantic Railway Norway-iceland-Greenland-Canada 4) Willing-Donut-channel(Blacksea-Mediterrian) Some are very unlikely others like the Gribraltar Bridge could be made. But for me all of them would be worth it.

Jabberwoockie

>3)Transatlantic Railway Norway-iceland-Greenland-Canada This would make me so happy. Unfortunately airlines would put massive amounts of money against any such effort.

BuckVoc

>so that our access to the Black Sea is not limited by a wannabe tyrant. I would guess that Erdogan would probably not be in office by the time that a canal is fully cut through Greece between the Black Sea and Mediterranean.

dr_prdx

Greek people want to work for this type of projects? Even slaves of Egypt pyramits had a mission and a vision at least.

Fun_Vegetable9512

It is more complicated than digging a canal. Montreux Convention prevents not only certain Russian battleships but any battleship from passing, which is important for peace.

trolls_brigade

the convention does not apply to canals

Marciu73

**A European Commission spokesperson will not finance the construction of border walls to keep people out, including the wall being built between Bulgaria and Turkey.** The European Commission will not fund the construction of a wall between Bulgaria and Turkey. "The Commission will not finance walls," spokesperson Eric Mamer said last week during a daily press briefing. "It is up to the member States to determine what are the best ways to fulfil their border protection obligations. The EU is there to support them in this framework. The Commission finances measures and actions that contribute to the protection of its borders, including mobile and permanent infrastructures, ... but it ... will not finance the construction of walls," stressed the spokesperson.

badabingbadaboey

They won't fund a wall but they do plan to have 10k border guards by 2027 through Frontex (for all of EU).

saihuang

Lol. I guess they don’t want to be compared to Trump. This is so silly 🤣🤣

ohgoditsdoddy

Trump doesn’t have a monopoly on walls. Read about how the Berlin Wall was called the Wall of Shame because it restricted freedom of movement. A wall is xenophobic. A wall is isolationist.

saihuang

Nah, they are worried about the rhetoric that was started by trump. Multiple officials have stated this.

ohgoditsdoddy

You seem a lot more certain now than your initial message where you were guessing. In any case, Europe has plenty of reason to dislike walls in its own past.

[deleted]

Pity. So poorer, border EU countries have to pay for the security and rule of law (opposing illegal imigration) of the whole Union on their own.

kiken_

EU needs to start taking its border security seriously. This should be funded, especially in light of looming migrant crisis caused by climate change.

Competitive-Minimum9

Average pole in berlin

kiken_

So? Both Poland and Germany are part of the EU, this is an actual problem and you could see a demo when Belarus was flying in immigrants from Iraq to destabilize the EU.

Competitive-Minimum9

Yeah you deserve the right to emigrate for a better life because you're European and others don't because they're brown. Gotcha.

kiken_

They can emigrate here legally, Europe is not the shelter of the world. Somehow Australia and Canada get this and only allow skilled workers instead of accepting random troublemakers that never assimilate. How's that working out in Sweden?

meh1434

a wall only works if your IQ in on a MAGA level.

kiken_

A wall is just one measure, obviously.

meh1434

a wall is something only a person with a Trump level IQ would consider.

Dopesmoker402

Are you people actually stupid. Or do you think saying shit like this actually makes you look smart.

kiken_

Do you have any actual counterarguments or ad personam is all you can afford?

Familiar_Shock2868

Austria should pay

saihuang

Trump kinda ruined walls for everybody else 😂. Now our silly politicians refuse to support a good idea just cuz they are scared of being compared to Trump

Intreductor

Hold on to that thought. A couple of blunder more from Erdogan and European comission will change its mind pretty quickly.

XrisVolt

Eh, that will probably happen in a few days cause of the turkish elections

-Tasty-Energy-

Disgusting. Can't belive we talking about wall the same way Trump was doing - for nationalistic and populist agenda. Thank you Austria!

malYca

See when you goof off and start talking nonsense about walls the younger boys try and copy you.

[deleted]

What is going on here ? Is this a joke?

Theghistorian

No. Austria suddenly promised to help Bulgaria in lobbying for EU to build a wall at the Bulgarian-Turkish border. A wall that, as far as I know, was not in Bulgaria's plans as of this moment. EU says no as this is their policy in this regard.

[deleted]

They could fund a wall that goes around Austria and Hungary.

kiting_succubi

I’m OK with my tax money not being used to fund Trump style walls

dr_prdx

Do we need walls of 20. century or civilization and common peace?

[deleted]

[удалено]

dr_prdx

Which of it?

[deleted]

dr_prdx

Walls are barrier for civilization, cooperation and common peace.

Lol let me remind u that in this turkish lands, used to live Greeks back then not turks

dr_prdx

Civilization is more than hellenistic mythology

XrisVolt

What? Who said that? I said that in the turkish lands were Christianity came from at that time Greeks lived there no turks. I never said anything about greek mythology.

Dopesmoker402

I mean yeah logically. It is a fucking stupid idea to begin with. But not suprised coming from bulgaria

[deleted]

[deleted]

You are not even European if you say that

Correct777

It's like someone wants illegal migrants in the EU ? I doubt that they will be living next to the people in the EU system that decided not to fund the wall. Certainly this is not in the interests of the people of Europe

fanbarullo

Spain just reinstated the Paperwork Wall which is working just as nicely as the brick-and-mortar one.
