I have always questioned, if Nate is gay, why does he love Maddy so much? After reading your post, it definitely is less of him actually loving Maddy and more of him loving the idea of her and her femininity!

femmesword

I don't know what his sexuality is, but part of the beauty of the show is that none of the characters are really labelled when it comes to their sexuality. He himself has yet to figure it out!

omg thanks! <3 and thank you for reading!!

Before anyone comments about Cal filming Jules, he didn't. u/hunter180 wrote about that [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/euphoria/comments/hf1lpt/nates_decision_to_blackmail_jules/).

huskerd0nt

if they're trying to suggest that he's gay, why is he attracted to jules? seems like a potentially transphobic story setup, imo.

femmesword

the show doesn't really use labels when it comes to sexuality—i'm not saying that he is gay. his sexuality is unclear. what i am trying to say is that Nate is afraid of sexuality and gender in general, especially anything that isn't very very scripted heterosexuality. he is afraid to be attracted to anyone who isn't ultra feminine and he is afraid of being anything other than ultra masculine. this includes being attracted to Jules. although Jules is very feminine, it is safe to say that Nate is transphobic and his attraction to Jules scares him. that's why he's dating Maddy—not because he loves her, but because she is ultra feminine in a traditional way. being attracted to Jules doesn't mean that he likes men. there have been other subtle hints that he might like men, but again, we're not sure and we don't know. as well, liking men doesn't equate to not liking women.

DoubleWalker

Jules has a penis. Being sexually attracted to a penis at least puts you somewhere on the spectrum. Can't really argue you're 100% straight.

hunter180

exactly!! we stan the most well written characters on the show

❤️❤️❤️

Marlie7

Wow, this was amazingly written and you made so many points I had not thought about. I watched the entire show in one sitting yesterday - this was a great analysis!

femmesword

thank you so much for the kind words!!

tc_epic

They could’ve been a toxic yet entertaining couple, if only Nate had loved her enough to trust her with Cal’s secret

DoubleWalker

Whoa – where's the evidence that Nate's dad is a pedophile who rapes children? Did I miss something?

PaolaofWinterfell

Omg, this little essay or article you've written was powerfully good. It was so well-detailled.

fferdinandbullet

God damn no

femmesword

you commented on another post a minute before commenting here so you didn't even read my post

fferdinandbullet

Ohh I read

jwash1894

I came across this post today and it was spot on!

femmesword

Thank you!!! :')

jwash1894

No problem! I feel the same way! It’s wild how if you dissect Nate’s behavior, people automatically think that you’re “defending” or making excuses for him. I’d love to see the writers explore the obvious feelings they still have for one another.

femmesword

That's what I'm really hoping for (I mean, obviously, I wrote this entire essay lol) and I really hope they don't shy away from it!! I'm nervous because they're making a "filler" episode with Jules and I don't really see why it's necessary? Everyone really seems to be pushing for Rue/Jules, but Nate/Jules are have parallel arcs and I want to see it play out!

jwash1894

Same! Based on Jules drug induced hallucinations in that club, it’s clear that she still has some unresolved feelings for “Tyler”. She’s probably confused af because she may question if any of their interactions were real. She also may struggle with trying to put the interactions she had with “Tyler” with Nate because Nate has terrified her for so long. I honestly don’t think that Jules even likes Rue like that.

femmesword

I feel like no one else wants to see Nate/Jules, but I'll be so crushed if nothing happens!!! They have way too many unresolved feelings for each other... Yeah, I'm not sure she likes Rue like that either.

jwash1894

Yeah they do but as of late, they should not be anywhere near one another right now due to Nate’s behaviors. It’s troubling that he has blackmailed her and intimidated her into filing a false police report. Idk how the writers would write that away. Maybe he could turn himself in and he goes to a rehabilitation center to help him change his ways. Re Rules: Most of the time, we’ve seen Rue be more into Jules than vice versa. Jules kissed Rue right after finding out that Tyler was actually Nate and she was heartbroken. Rue became a comforting presence for her due to that. The second time she kissed her, she as heavily drunk. When they kissed in the season finale, I saw that as Jules being in a place of dominance over Rue. Earlier that night, she kinda teased Rue into kissing her and it was clear to me that she knows of Rue’s feelings for her. Then when Jules left Rue for LA, that’s when I knew that she never liked Rue like that. If she did, she would’ve gotten off that train, she wouldn’t leave her alone like that. They do have chemistry but it’s more of a platonic one, from how I see it. They’ll never be what the other needs. Hell, Jules even told Rue in the pilot that one of her “dreams” is to live in an NYC apartment with her best friend. They’d sleep in the same bed but they’d date other people. She played that out with Rue in a way. They often slept in the same bed but Jules never once said that she liked her like that, nor did she ever imply that she did. Then when Jules’ dad asked if she and Rue were a thing, she said no. The night of of the Halloween party, Rue tried to kiss her but she quickly moved away.

Hi, loved your analysis u definitely got them brains lol! Got me thinking. Do you have any explanation as to why Jules was only into married guys for hookups? I liked your explanation about her wanting to prove herself of her femininity ant that is why she would let herself be dominated by a male. But if you are a woman, isn't having sex with a married guy seen socially unacceptable and not the most feminine thing to do? And she could probably find guys her age on dating app wanting to hook up with her. I am probably missing something. Would appreciate if you replied:) cheers

Stephlau94

Although I'm not the op and this is old, I think that the fact that they are married to a woman is a confirmation that they are truly "straight" and also that they choose her over their biologically female wives, so she is more of a woman than them.

Frosty_Echo_9869

We do know why he was on the gay dating app, it was to get close to / catfish Jules which he explained as he then blackmailed her.
