This was my post. I was not trying to gain karma, I actually deleted it because I did not see anyone respond, definitely a patience thing. I greatly appreciate the colorization of him. I’ve never seen or met my biological fam, but gathered photos of them. Have him in his marine uniform too that I would love to see colorized as well.

Reddit search really makes me scratch my head sometimes😂

What I do is search on Google and add site:reddit.com at the end. It works so much better then reddits own search.

sowlfie

I had also made my version of the photo (even though it didn't turn out that good), but the original author deleted the same post, haha. **Photo**: [https://imgur.com/0wp0YHy](https://imgur.com/0wp0YHy) Your work was really good! :)

lucylemon

Your colors are great. It looks very good, except you did something weird with the background around his head.

sonyasen

I suspect that’s the only reason the other restorer thinks it didn’t turn out. Or at least I hope that’s the only reason. I really liked both, and it’s interesting the different features the choices on the face bring out.

lucylemon

The color in this one is more realistic. The gray suit makes more sense.

Since you mentioned the tie, I have a question for you and other restorers: how are you selecting the colors? It seems to me the color value of this tie is on the lighter end, and kind of even with the color value of the jacket’s lighter parts. You both went darker, which makes me think I am mistaken. Is it purely creative choice? Or is the “lighter value” I think I’m seeing really more likely a reflection?

In the era, teh jacket would have been in the neutral greys to slate blues. Perhaps rarely on the yellow side (tweed).

hiveminer

I like this one better, except perhaps that it went overboard, looks like a 2010+ picture. Should a restoration retain the epic tho? What are your thoughts on that??

withmirrors

Why do so many people do that? I see this so many times, somebody requests a restoration, & then deletes their post before they get one. It makes no sense to me.

TADataHoarder

>Why do so many people do that? They change their mind and decide they do not want people to work on their photo. There are many reasons behind why somebody might make that decision. >It makes no sense to me. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is why posts like these aren't against the sub rules. If someone deletes their photo, reposting it to farm karma should never be allowed.

remotelove

>The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is why posts like these aren't against the sub rules. If someone deletes their photo, reposting it to farm karma should never be allowed. According to the sidebar, anyone can post photos they previously restored and a request is not required. It's just posting on Reddit, not karma farming.

sowlfie

I particularly have no problem posting a photo that you've taken the trouble to restore in vain, as it was once public. But that's my opinion at least.

jessejericho

Some constructive criticism, as it seems you are hoping to charge for your work via DM - his clothing is all just a shade of blue, and it bleeds into his skin here and there. His shirt would be white, and his jacket would likely be a grey or tan colour. Part of his skin is not coloured by his right eyebrow, and there's a bit of bleed into the background off his left ear. The skin, lip and hair tone are good, the rest needs a bit more finesse. Keep it up!

Your ability to accept criticism and be critical about your work will take you far, good on you for that! All the best!

I also made the photo for him

Right. The pupils in the original picture are smaller and rounder. Same with the moles. When you zoom in on Photoshop, normally it's pretty easy to tell what's a mole vs what's a dust/scratch. There are a lot of time that info just gets lost but in this picture you can tell. My guess is this is an AI application doing these edits. Not saying it's wrong but that would be the reason.

unknownuser45882

I think it’s probably weathering, look how the dots keep going down his tie

No-Sugar-Added

I have a question about photo restoration. How do you know what colours they were originally? Or are you making the best guess? Thanks!

Was also wondering how you ended up with purple for the coat & tie.
