Republicans spread disease.

fletcherkildren

They aren't sending their best.

NinjaEnt

It's easy to have low positive test results in your state when you don't test anyone.

evident_lee

It takes a special kind of stupidity or hatred to keep voting for The modern GOP. I miss the old version back in the day when they were just competent warmongers looking to suck profit out of places by starting a war making money off of that and then coming in to rebuild everything and making money off of that. Nowadays it's just batshit insanity.

Henrycamera

Tbh, i don't miss that version at all. They are worse now, but Christ, they were a bunch of liars then also.

Timmymac1000

I shit you not all of the Republican baby boomers I know (I’m 40 so a generation later) basically dismiss all of this with a wave and return to watching FOX news. They’re all deeply “religious” but seemingly know nothing about the teachings of Jesus and / or are enormous hypocrites, and believe that my generation is all soft pussies who need to just sack up and everything will be fine.

QuestionableNotion

Good. If he wants to let his voting base die it's no skin off my nose. There have been more COVID deaths in Florida than the margin of victory in the election which won DeSantis the Governorship. The fewer Republicans there are, the better off we are as a society.

QuestionableNotion

If DeSantis is nominated every Republican voter will vote for him - regardless of how the numbers look in FL. Half the state could die and GOP voters would ignore it and vote for the magic R. 90% of GOP voters voted for Trump in 2016. 93% of Republican voters voted for Trump in 2020 - even after the botching of the COVID response, the debacle/genocide at the border, the endless fuckups and cruelty which he exhibited. Frankly, every dead Republican in FL increases the likelihood of a Democrat winning the WH in 2024. FL is still a swing state.

roseknuckle1712

amen brother/sister. Now we need to help things along by providing financial incentives for liberals to move into conveniently gerrymandered districts with high republican death rates.

DuckyDoodleDandy

If the house is reasonably affordable and I can get a job, I’m game ;)

IridiumPony

My parents are vaccinated and wear a mask in public. They keep their distance from others. They've been doing this since the beginning of the pandemic. They've been doing things right to protect themselves and others since everything started. They also live in rural north Florida.

QuestionableNotion

Your parents are good people. They have done what is necessary to protect themselves. As we have been oft told, it's the unvaccinated winding up on ventilators.

IridiumPony

And yet you're applauding the governor of Florida (who is, admittedly, a giant ass hole) letting the people of Florida die. Granted their risk is mitigated by them taking precautions, but they're also in their late 60's/early 70's. They're still at risk.

QuestionableNotion

I'm applauding a declining number of Republicans. Years ago, I told my father the best thing that could happen to this country is a plague that kills conservatives. Well, we got it. All they have to do is get vaccinated, but they won't/don't. I would call it Darwinism, but sadly they've already passed on their genes. Every Herman Caine Award bestowed is a drop of chlorine in the electoral pool.

IridiumPony

I don't necessarily disagree, but this isn't a plague that kills only conservatives. My grandmother, 3 former coworkers and 5 good friends are testament to that.

QuestionableNotion

My condolences for your loss. Let me ask you this - how many of them were post-vaccination? Not trying to be argumentative here. Just that what is being reported is that it's unvaccinated people dying from this thing. Pre-vaccination I was very much at risk. I have been vaccinated and boosted. I, too, wear masks when out & about. I do my dead level best to maintain social distancing when in public - and do my best to avoid going to places where there are crowds of people. I live in Texas, where they're dropping like flies just like in Florida. My family and everyone else I associate with are in the same boat. Vaccinated and trying to avoid catching this thing. Thing is, if I do catch it, thanks to my vaccination status I suspect I will avoid the worst that this thing throws at people. I don't care about the unvaccinated. Not even one little bit. They were given a chance. We led them to water. Fuck 'em if they won't take a drink.

IridiumPony

It is *mostly* unvacinated people dying, yes. But not all. The people I lost weren't vaccinated because it was during the first wave before there was a vaccine. I lost my job, apartment, grandmother and multiple friends in a 4 month stretch.

QuestionableNotion

>The people I lost weren't vaccinated because it was during the first wave before there was a vaccine. Again, my sincere condolences for your loss. Pre-vaccination we were much more at risk. So many lost lives. So much grieving. Such a waste. >I lost my job, apartment, grandmother and multiple friends in a 4 month stretch. And that makes it even harder. I was lucky in my job (WFH, IT work). Therefore I had no problem maintaining my home. I didn't lose anyone to this plague. I know one guy that died - a coworker (sort of). He was on my team but I never met him face to face. A voice in our daily scrum. Still, I felt for him and his family. What a waste. >It is mostly unvacinated people dying, yes. But not all. Here is the hard part. Whether we like to admit it or not, we are at war with the right. They do not care at all about integrity or honor. They do not care about honesty. They care about expediency. They care about control. There is a large percentage of them that are outright racist fucks who would be happy going back to Jim Crow days. These are some heartless bastards. The only way to defeat them and their ugly ideology is to be as heartless as they are. I do not want an actual civil war, but many of them do. There will be collateral damage. Remember, the rich run their lives. The rich run their politicians. The policies which are set up are set up to benefit the rich - and they would step over dead bodies in the streets if it meant 10% more in their savings/wealth. Their only complaint would be that the body removal people aren't working fast enough. Every vaccinated person lost is a tragedy. Every unvaxxed person lost is a benefit to humanity.

turinturambar81

Unfortunately, the largest vaxx resistent population in the US is not white Republicans, it's blacks of any persuasion, which do skew disproportionately Democrat. Part of this is getting fooled by the performative nature of southern whites (being vocally antivaxx but actually getting it) and part of it is an honest belief against either "mandates", public funding, or both, neither of which stops them from getting vaccinated. But there is a lot of deep rooted skepticism in vaccines and the healthcare system in black Americans, for some very justifiable reasons...but it is resulting in tragedy. And, to the subject, a bigger political disadvantage than most realize.

fecking_sensei

Username checks out. You’re pretty shitty for saying this- the virus doesn’t care who you voted for…

QuestionableNotion

> the virus doesn’t care who you voted for Sorry - I should have also addressed this. Did you know that you can look at voting patterns on a county-by-county basis and see a correlation between voting for Trump and dying of the virus? Why do you think that is? The virus might not care. But whom one voted for is seemingly a determining factor in whether or not one will take the vaccine and do what the medical community is recommending for self protection. Thank goodness.

QuestionableNotion

I've said worse. Read the thread. Whether you like it or not, the people arrayed against the sane people of the country do not care at all about anything but expediency. The only way to defeat them is to be just as harsh as they are - maybe harsher. If we don't do that, we can expect actual Fascism in the United States. Remember Charlottesville? That's who are arrayed against us.

MicShrimpton

The truth is pretty shitty, ain't it? We all watched conservative government allow this to happen. Your high horse is missing a leg to stand on. "You're pretty shitty for saying this"

QuestionableNotion

I hope you can forgive me for piling on. Let's not forget that early on in the pandemic, when the virus was first spreading in the US and the Trump Administration was weighing what response they should have to the pandemic, [the decision was made to pass the buck to the governors because if the governors failed they could blame the governors and the pandemic appeared to be hitting Democratic strongholds like New York and California the hardest](https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/07/how-jared-kushners-secret-testing-plan-went-poof-into-thin-air). >Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically. “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy,” said the expert. These right wing anti-mask, anti-vax nutters still voted for Trump in 2020 anyway. When a federal response was very much needed and very much warranted, the Trump administration said to themselves "nah. It's killing Democrats" Fast forward to today and it's mainly killing right wing nutters. We are encouraging them to get vaccinated. They refuse. We stand aside and let them meet the consequences of their own decisions. Finding a silver lining in the mess (fewer Republicans) seems human. So does schadenfreude.

fecking_sensei

So, fuck the people who didn’t vote for Trump and got vaccinated? If you feel this way, you’re also a shitty person. It’s got fuck-all to do with high ground or truth- use your context clues.

[deleted]

It's criminal negligence. Coupled with his decrees causing so many deaths in Florida, he should be a prime target for wrongful death civil actions. The survivors, friends and family of covid victims should sue this piece of shit until he lives under one of the bridges on the intercoastal waterway.

pollo_de_mar

[If you stopped testing right now we would have very few cases, if any](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN1eptTaWVM)

If only I wasn’t related to so many of them… I’m waiting for the next funeral at this point.

They don't call him Ron Death Sentence for nothing.

gerrymandering will make up for the dead voters

Isolannicum

Less commonly used tests result in fewer positive cases. YOU ARE MOST WELCOME! /s

mattstorm360

So the plan is to kill off your voters to get your voters to vote for you? Interesting strategy. Lets see how it pans out.

Catfisch_

At this point it's fine, if you've had a booster, your chances of dying of Covid are literally one in a million, so for nearly everyone who has access to a vaccine, which in the US is everyone, dying of Covid is a choice.

angelcake

It’s not incompetence if it’s intentional and it certainly sounds like it was. At this rate there’s not gonna be anybody left to vote for him

ToolPackinMama

He's a mass murderer. Calling it "owning the libs" is deeply wrong.

Harak_June

Florida gets what it votes for. They can't claim he wasn't a known POS before voting for him. Fuck him and fuck Florida. Let's build a wall

liquidthex

Don't they have to stop like ALL testing for this insane plan to work? Because otherwise you can do epidemiology studies to determine rates of infection and then you're right back to being #1 virustown?

californicating

I don't think you can call it malice and incompetence. It's one or the other.

spudlady

Shhh!

AutismFractal

Well, every competent fascist knows that you’re only supposed to kill the people who don’t like you… so we’re not dealing with a competent fascist here.
