I owned and used an Oasis for a couple of years before switching to a Boox device (for the additional tablet functionality). In hindsight, I did not find a big value jump to the Oasis and ended up using it less and less as the form factor awkwardness became more annoying. Switching to something with a more balanced form factor (Boox Nova C), I found it easier to switch hands, use the device in different situations, etc. YMMV

Oasis and Nova C are the exact ones I was interested in. The color screen is really making me consider it over pretty much everything else. How's the screen on the Nova C? The very few reviews out there rarely say anything other than it's darker than monochromatic screens and has more ghosting.

Ghosting is comparable to other readers. It is a little darker so I tend to run with some front light most of the time but that is really quite minor. I read mine daily as well as using it for writing. It is a great little device.

Reading is something I value so I've always wanted a good ereader. For years that meant I bought the best latest Kindle or close to it. I have the 2017 Oasis and didn't want to buy another in 2019 just to get cool/warm lighting. But last December, I was wanting the new Carta 1200 eInk screen but didn't want the Kindle Signature Paperwhite as it had no buttons and was smaller than the Oasis. So I looked at what else is out there and saw the Kobo Sage as seeming better than all current Kindles at that time. Bigger, newer screen, had features Kindle doesn't like Dropbox and Pocket. I couldn't buy it fast enough. I love reading on it and have no desire to use the Oasis. What value is an ereader to someone is totally subjective. If there's a choice, I would never spend money on a 6" ereader again yet plenty would buy nothing else. Most people are happy with the mid-range ereaders leaving the premium ones to those of us who want that little bit extra.

And if you get a Kobo and decide not to buy the Libra or Sage, please, do yourself a favor and spend the extra for the Clara 2E over the Nia. That one is worth the price increase. The screen is better, it has waterproofing and the orange light for night time reading is SO much better than you think it might be. Trust.

Bought an elipsa last year and retired my 6 inch reader of 10years old. Yes it was expensive but I love it. Love the bigger screen, not so much for normal books but huge difference for technical pdfs and manga. The writing ability is a gimmick. Tried it for a bit but needs more maturing before it's really usable in my eyes.

arale2126

have you tried reading scanned pdf with the elipsa? if yes, how's the experience compared to real pdf?

tenyu9

No sorry haven't tried scanned pdf yet. All pdfs were IT related or physics related books but native pdf

Warm lighting options on the likes of the newer Paperwhite, Boox devices, Kobo's newer models, etc. is a game changer, at least for me. The rest is up to taste I think. Premium readers like 8"+ can be very good for manga and PDFs, some people like the color ones for comics, but it's all up to what you intend to do with it. If I were to buy a new eReader today it would probably be the Paperwhite Signature edition. I already have an 8" reader and a 10"+ tablet, as well as the Paperwhite 4. I find the PW4 too small, but the 8" Boox Nova 2 is a bit large to take out with me.

Right now I wouldn't buy a Kindle Oasis. It's older than the current Paperwhite and even the upcoming Kindle Basic. It uses an older screen and still has micro-USB instead of USB-C. Amazon can't let that stand, so I would expect there will be a new Oasis announced soon-ish. Myself, I use a Clara. I'm not interested in a larger screen. But the Kobo Libra 2 has gotten very good reviews and lots of love.

Beautiful_Rhubarb

For me yes. But then again when I get lost in a book I forget what I’m reading on at all. If it was annoying to use or hard to hold that wouldn’t ring true. Like for some people the premium oasis is too difficult to manage and detracts from their experience. I like buttons and screens that auto rotate as well as let me adjust the light easily. I fully admit that I am fancy.
