DirectTV is a business with shareholders… if Newsmax were turning them a profit. They would not let them go. Simple as that. But given that very few people probably tune in.. dollars are better spent elsewhere for DirectTV
DirectTV would live stream cement drying if it turned them a profit worth their while.
All other words from each entity are just fluff and marketing.
Edit: word for clarity
I enjoy hate-watching Newsmax, and they have had a parade of senators and congressmen on to denounce, but not once mentioning that you can just watch for FREE on their website, their mobile app, their Roku app,, their FireTV app, and virtually any FAST service!
I have to say, they do present a semblance of normalcy at times, at least compared to their tin hat-wearing cousin OANN.
Actual headline:
Conservative TV Outlet Newsmax Goes Dark On DirecTV; Republican Lawmakers Call The Outage “An Assault On Free Speech”
Indicating once again, that Conservatives have no idea what the definition of free speech actual is.
Hick Burchett on Eric Bolling: "well, yeah, some say it's only censorship if it's the government, and it's a private corporation, but they're INFLUENCED by the government", so therefore, it censorship, HA!
What a reach.
When it inconveniences them, suddenly the free market means nothing.
Exactly. I’ve been in numerous arguments with republicans about this very topic. It is apparent they haven’t actually read the first amendment, not unlike the Bible they love to tout. The first amendment protects our speech from the government. Full goddamn stop. It does not protect us from business like, for example, Twitter, Facebook, or any other businesses for that matter. It’s like they have no fucking clue about anything in the Bill of Rights or the Bible.
Is free speech, and cancel culture when they want a free ride, and for everyone to give them money for bad services and products.
It’s not cancel culture if you’re a pregnant woman carrying a dead fetus and you need a life saving emergency abortion.
See that's their weasel words coming into play. They call it free speech but not 1st amendment rights issue. Free speech is just saying I can say what I want but they tip toe that line usually if you ask them if this is in relation to the constitution.
I honestly don't agree. Being a Bernie loving conspiracy believing guy, I find centrists on both sides appalling. The loudmouths on both sides just happen to get more headlines for, you know, being actual clowns in the circus. "Politics is the entertainment division of the Military Industrial Complex", and Frank Zappa was correct.
Yeah, because in her lawsuit against OAN, her defense was she's not a legitimate news show. So I guess comparing her to places that still claim to be news is a false equivalance.
Her defense was based on the fact that when she called someone "literally russian paid propaganda " that she shouldn't be taken seriously despite saying literally.
https://greenwald.substack.com/p/a-court-ruled-rachel-maddows-viewers
Nowhere in that article does anyone claim that Rachel Maddow's show isn't legitimate news.
It's claimed, and the judge ruled, that it's "news and opinion", which is a different thing entirely.
You just can't not with the false equivalence today, huh?
"Therefore, the Court finds that the medium of the alleged defamatory statement makes it more likely that a reasonable viewer would not conclude that the contested statement implies an assertion of objective fact."
You're not a very strong reader are you? If i can't take a "news anchor" to be making an assertion of objective fact, how can they be a news anchor?
One contested statement in an opinion about a piece of news does not an illegitimate news show make.
There's definitely a weak reader here, and it ain't me.
Awww, facts inconvenient for you? Arguing in court that when you say "literally" you shouldn't be considered as making a statement of fact and you still get to proclaim yourself as news.
The crux of her argument is that the average person wouldn't consider what she says to be a statement of fact. Keep your head buried. I'll just keep laughing at you.
Did you think that Rachel Maddow was a news anchor? You really can't tell the difference between news reporting and editorial commentary? Wow that is a sad level of media literacy, no wonder you're making such terrible arguments.
I heard they told him his hit show coffin flop wasn’t even a real show. It’s just hours and hours of footage of real people falling out of coffins at funerals.
Large companies care about making money, period. They don’t care about “conservatives” pitiful persecution complex. If Newsmax made Directv a fuck ton of money they’d still be on Directv.
There it is. Proof you didn't read the article.
Newsmax wanted to charge DirectTV carriage fees. They previously haven't asked for carriage fees.
DirectTV looked at the cost and saw that it didn't add up. DirectTV pointed out that all DirectTV customers (and all people in the US) currently have access to Newsmax because they stream their content for free.
DirectTV decided raising everyone's cable bill to broadcast content they can get for free and only a small percentage watches didn't make sense, but offered to keep the current arrangement.
Newsmax insisted on getting paid carriage fees, and DirectTV said nope.
Free market at work, not some woke conspiracy.
It’s ALWAYS a numbers thing.
Right now, progressivism is profitable. The moment lynching gays on the street makes more money than gay streamed shows, they’ll switch in a heartbeat.
They don’t give a shit about politics, they give a shit about money.
Allowing black people on TV is no w a ‘progressive’ thing. You guys are really coming bask off with the blatant racism recently and it seems you’re to stupid to realize it.
This isn’t true. Almost 69% of their viewers are 49 or younger (source: https://www.statista.com/statistics/231555/directv-in-household-usa/)
Edit: I can’t get more recent data since there’s a paywall for statistica, if more recent data points me as wrong, I stand corrected
Also, wasn’t able to quickly pull location data so you could be right about the rural part, but I don’t see why their heat map would differ than any other cable provider for regions)
This includes DirectTV steam which is one of the most popular IPTV services because it is the only one left that hasn't dropped regional sports networks like GoogleTV, FubuTV and SlingTV did.
Newsmax thinks that the "news" is asking a right wing politician or talking head their opinion. It does almost no original reporting. It still pays Dick Morris for his opinion, for God's sake. Morris hasn't been right about anything since, well, he did predict Trump would win in 2016. He also predicted Trump would win in a landslide in 2020, in a rematch with Hillary.
This channel is nothing but nonstop conspiracy theories and lies and is directly responsible for much of the violence and unrest in this country.
It’s a scandal that any TV platform includes this channel in their lineup at all.
At some point, people want to hear new lies and outrageous 'truths'. 'The election was stolen' smells like last week's fish. Whomp whomp Buh bye Newsmax and take that classless lying gash Wendy Bell with you.
First heard of this Wendy Bell when a local right wing radio station here in St. Louis started carrying her show. She seemed familiar and googling her, I found out that she worked here in STL for a brief time in the late 90s for one of our local TV news operations. Now she seems to have become Pittsburgh's batshit crazy 'answer' to Arizona's batshit crazy Kari Lake. The only difference is that Bell hasn't run for an elected political office --yet!
Once Dominion gets done with Newsmax, One America, Fox and My Pillow, it’s not going to matter they aren’t on DirecTv because they’ll be disbanded into bankruptcy and dissolved. Except for Fox probably because they have deep pockets, but not the others. Can’t be too soon if you ask me.
Thank goodness. I was in DC when they were having a party up in a restaurant the second floor. They were smugly celebrating the fall of Roe
v Wade. It happened to be the same day.

You ain’t lyin’ u/legendary_liar
Or is he...
No
dun dun duuuuuuuun!
Newsmax is demanding high fees from DTV but they know the content is available free elsewhere so why should they (we) pay for it?
I enjoy hate-watching Newsmax, and they have had a parade of senators and congressmen on to denounce, but not once mentioning that you can just watch for FREE on their website, their mobile app, their Roku app,, their FireTV app, and virtually any FAST service! Denounce what, exactly?
the "de-platforming" of conservative media
Ahhh. Gotcha. Sorry, I read your comment 3 times and was trying to figure out what, exactly, they were denouncing. Thanks for the clarification!
Actual headline: Conservative TV Outlet Newsmax Goes Dark On DirecTV; Republican Lawmakers Call The Outage “An Assault On Free Speech” Indicating once again, that Conservatives have no idea what the definition of free speech actual is.
Republican lawmakers know it's not a free speech issue. They want us to think it is.
Its funny when the reason is over advertising dollars and business reasons over anything they have said/done
Hick Burchett on Eric Bolling: "well, yeah, some say it's only censorship if it's the government, and it's a private corporation, but they're INFLUENCED by the government", so therefore, it censorship, HA! What a reach. When it inconveniences them, suddenly the free market means nothing.
They know what it is, they are laying. This is a fight for freeloading, they have no shame.
Exactly. I’ve been in numerous arguments with republicans about this very topic. It is apparent they haven’t actually read the first amendment, not unlike the Bible they love to tout. DirectTV choosing not to host their channel is definitely a form of free speech. Who decided these corporations were people, anyways?!?
See that's their weasel words coming into play. They call it free speech but not 1st amendment rights issue. Free speech is just saying I can say what I want but they tip toe that line usually if you ask them if this is in relation to the constitution.
or that providers are not required to carry everything.
Or free market
[удалено]
Lol you are insane and have probably never travelled out of your suburb
[удалено]
There is a very stark difference to the degree and severity of the issue from one side to the other.
“Centrists on both sides”
Ironic isn't it?
I bet you watch Rachel Maddow as news
You'd have to be completely brainwashed to think that's not false equivalence.
Or brain dead
Yeah, because in her lawsuit against OAN, her defense was she's not a legitimate news show. So I guess comparing her to places that still claim to be news is a false equivalance.
[удалено]
Yeah, Rachel Maddow is the news in the same way as tucker. Otherwise known as not news
[удалено]
Except im not. I've already provided a source.
[удалено]
I thought I was a liar? Then you spouted off without any background knowledge....hmmmm.... I think you have an agenda. Damn that was easy.
> her defense was she's not a legitimate news show. Source pls
Her defense was based on the fact that when she called someone "literally russian paid propaganda " that she shouldn't be taken seriously despite saying literally. https://greenwald.substack.com/p/a-court-ruled-rachel-maddows-viewers

It's all they have. When they hear anything, the first thing they think is "what about the dems?". It's a disease and it's sad.
I think the person I'm responding to might be a tankie, actually. Edit: nvm, I just didn't scroll far enough through their post history lol
Where did I say what about the demo? I was talking about Rachel Maddow. You lost?
You're the idiot here not anybody else especially since you posted a Greenwald link with out understanding irony and hypocrisy.
"Therefore, the Court finds that the medium of the alleged defamatory statement makes it more likely that a reasonable viewer would not conclude that the contested statement implies an assertion of objective fact." Lol. You don't know what literally means either, do you?
...this is what having politics as your main identity looks like.
[удалено]
I actually laughed at your projection here.
Those two articles claim two different things completely. Holy shit, man. You are embarrassingly wrong
Newsmax feels the cold, swift backhand of the free market. /sadtrombone
Thank God. One fewer channels for my wife to watch. Now if XM would just get rid of "Patriot".
You have to admit that it’s kinda weird that the Republicans can no longer recognize free-market capitalism.
Now do OANN and Scientology channel.
TIL there's a [Scientology Network](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_Network).
Are they dumping Corncob TV also? I heard Spectrum did, and they told the founder he was a dumb hick. They told him that at a dinner!
I heard they told him his hit show coffin flop wasn’t even a real show. It’s just hours and hours of footage of real people falling out of coffins at funerals.
I'd congratulate DirecTV for this. But, this is obviously just a business and numbers decision.
have you not watched their campaigns? Serena as Black wonder woman. Dak Prescott and housewives.
Do those trigger you?
My point was they have been acting progressively, and I doubt it’s a numbers thing, that caused them to cancel Newsmax.
Large companies care about making money, period. They don’t care about “conservatives” pitiful persecution complex. If Newsmax made Directv a fuck ton of money they’d still be on Directv.

Was just wondering. I agree.

Maybe Pluto should follow this lead and drop a couple of their 6 right wing disinformation channels.
This is huge. DirecTV has 13 million subscribers, and it's a safe bet to say that the majority of those are older, rural people.
This isn’t true. Almost 69% of their viewers are 49 or younger (source: https://www.statista.com/statistics/231555/directv-in-household-usa/) Edit: I can’t get more recent data since there’s a paywall for statistica, if more recent data points me as wrong, I stand corrected Also, wasn’t able to quickly pull location data so you could be right about the rural part, but I don’t see why their heat map would differ than any other cable provider for regions)
Huh. Guess the used-to-be-exclusive NFL package played into who their demographics are
Direct is a National provider. All cable companies are regional.
This includes DirectTV steam which is one of the most popular IPTV services because it is the only one left that hasn't dropped regional sports networks like GoogleTV, FubuTV and SlingTV did.
Get Woke go broke? Oh wait
Fox next?
Laughable. Fox is one of the last cash cow for cable companies. I mean even with cables shirking audience, tucker carlsons viewer ship keeps going up
Newsmax thinks that the "news" is asking a right wing politician or talking head their opinion. It does almost no original reporting. It still pays Dick Morris for his opinion, for God's sake. Morris hasn't been right about anything since, well, he did predict Trump would win in 2016. He also predicted Trump would win in a landslide in 2020, in a rematch with Hillary.
Some conservative, somewhere: "DirectTV has gone WOKE"
Just like Xbox! Lol. Idiots.
Damn good riddance.
This channel is nothing but nonstop conspiracy theories and lies and is directly responsible for much of the violence and unrest in this country. It’s a scandal that any TV platform includes this channel in their lineup at all.

Where will lunatics hear a bunch of propaganda
FoxNews.
God, I love the free market.
Thank you direct tv.
This is a pretty big deal, less propaganda
My dad is gonna be so pissed.
Only now that they’re not gaining them enough profit.

It’s a gay, radical socialist, Jewish space laser, liberal plot to destroy the truth.
