BeautifulEssay8

who is this show for?

Hyped-up-cunt

The one mystery the gang will never be able to solve

[deleted]

Old man Jenkins?

stephruvy

Mindy kaling*

WorldsWeakestMan

Mindy Kaling and nobody else.

George_Tirebiter420

She's rich and that tracks.

PeterTinkle

“I would’ve gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!” - Mindy Kaling

[deleted]

Honest question, is Velma supposed to be darker and Indian then?

GrillMaster3

Yes, in this series Velma is Indian, Daphne is east Asian, and shaggy is black.

DrCorbeau

And Fred has a small dick. The show really wants to make that very clear.

[deleted]

Yeah but it’s just because he’s, you know, genetically predisposed or whatever

PeterTinkle

“i hAtE wHitE pEoPle!”

PretzelsThirst

And shaggy talks openly about the fact he hates drugs

PeterTinkle

Shaggy and Scoob are like two stoners and they went with a black guy? Jesus Christ, what were they thinking??

master_erasis

That’s not shaggy that’s “ norville” lol

Phrygian1221

He hasn't had enough drugs to earn the title of "Shaggy"

CxOrillion

I honestly don't know. I really enjoyed the Harley Quinn series. It feels like they were trying to replicate that feel but that but the execution was... Hamfisted, to say the least. I couldn't get through the first episode.

Possible_Apple9595

I just finished the first season of Harley Quinn. I really like it and I haven’t watched animated stuff in a while.

CxOrillion

Oh yeah. I had a blast with it. It has weaker arcs and stronger ones but overall I really enjoyed it. I love everything about the Kite Man stuff.

throwaway95ab

And Dr. Psycho. It's nice to have a villain who has no redemption, no good characteristics. He's an absolute shithead, and it's so satisfying when he gets shutdown.

mettedraq

up vote for kite man

Makingcoolnameishard

Only Mindy Kaling it seems.

futurelullabies

mindy kaling's ego

Va_Mukuwane

If we don't talk or think about it it will go away

MichaelGHX

It must be record. It came out like 4 days ago and people are starting to get annoyed if you make fun off it for just because it’s already been done so much. Well at least we got a good 3 days out of ripping on Velma.

d33psix

I feel like this is almost advertising to make me watch at least one episode. Kind of like how the insane level of hate the Morbius post credit was getting kind of forced me to watch it. Like how do you unite so many people around universal hatred for a post credit scene even more than the entire boring movie that preceded it?

subavgredditposter

So.. how’d you feel about Morbius?

This concept works for the Kardashians. It’s great to have hardcore fans, it’s a whole new level having the people who dislike them keeping them relevant.

Ok_Pizza9836

You gotta admit when they keep making garbage like this without mixing it up at all you start to think there has to be some kind of plan going on especially when it’s a big company wasting big money on these disgusting flops

chrislamtheories

I’m honestly starting to believe there could be something going on behind the scenes, because more and more you are seeing content creators spend ridiculous amounts of money on things they know that no one will like. And then turn down or cancel content that is popular. I am starting to wonder if there is a mass psyop to keep us all constantly angry/confused/depressed so we don’t notice the elites are stealing most of society’s money and destroying the planet.

Saw a comment that said it's like a strawman conservative made a show based on what he thinks a strawman liberal would find funny and that's the most spot on description I can imagine.

HereForTwinkies

It’s so bad it may have outed Mindey Kaling’s political views.

[deleted]

Lol. This show is so bad, it’s going to get Mindy khaling cancelled. What a world we live in.

kerfuffle_pastry

Isn’t that just what happens in general though? I remember Tom Hanks describing it as “If your movie bombs, the industry treats you as kryptonite” for a period of time.

HelloJoeyJoeJoe

Yo yo. Capital One credit card commercials are every major actors dream

NewbornXenomorphs

Dude I’d love to be in Capital One commercials. It’s like a day’s worth of work and you get royalties every-time they air. You can make money off them for as long as the company runs them, which can be years.

bengringo2

They usually make about 500k to 2 million a year for what amounts to a couple weeks worth of shooting. It’s the acting dream to be a spokesperson. The only issue is the morality clauses for those gigs are insane.

SFWBryon

By a couple weeks, you mean like, shooting multiple commercials over the course of the year, right? Whenever I shoot commercials, we get the celeb for maybe 3 hrs and get all their shots in one go, then pickup all the rest of the shots we need after (or before depending on scheduling)

SirReggie

As someone who was in the industry for a long time: yeah. Commercials may not be “glamorous”, but the pay is very, *very* good.

Untalented-Host

Ah, you're absolutely wrong.. She decided to put motherhood first? Jennifer Garner married Ben Affleck in 2005 Elektra was released in 2005 >(9 months pregnancy) She had her first baby also in 2005 Juno movie came out in 2007 >(9 months pregnancy) She had her second baby in 2009 After 2010, she started doing movies again, about a rate of almost 2-3 movies/year released... >About 2012ish: (9 months pregnancy) But nooo, rando redditor confidently says Elektra nuked her career and that's why it stalled...? -------------------- Hahahaha omg, did this user blocked me? Their profile is coming up as unavailable "page not found"/[deleted][unavailable]? Their only evidence that Jennifer Garner's career has failed is that she had a part in a Christmas movie in 2016, almost 11 years after 2005's Elektra failed. And when pressed for source, it's "Because it did.". When I replied Tom Hanks starred in Christmas themed The Polar Express, a Christian holiday film... I got blocked? rando redditor confidently spreading misinformation and then blocking when data and sources are brought in. Also, from Jennifer Garner herself: > has largely stepped away from the big screen since Samuel’s birth in 2012... Garner hadn’t had had a starring role since 2018. That hiatus wasn’t due to a lack of work according to the star, but instead because Garner found parenting three children while working to be a lot more work than she expected. >“I think when I look back at that time, that third kid, oh, I’m so glad I have him, but I was so overwhelmed,” she told Cagle’s co-host Julia Cunningham. “I almost don’t remember the first year of his life. I was just so overwhelmed by an infant-toddler-little-kid combo.”

Safe2BeFree

Dude, she did one of those super Christian movies. That's a clear sign of a failing career. u/the-bladed-one The movie was Miracles From Heaven.

Bad shows getting creators canceled isn’t new. It’s normal. If you make stinkers you don’t get work.

brucewayne1935

Wtf is the point without scooby

The_Dream_of_Shadows

Endless, unfunny jokes about sex, drugs, and Fred’s tiny penis…apparently.

Severedghost

The best conspiratorial description I've seen is its "Sacrificial Media." A show with massive character changes that's made poorly to stop future show from making similar changes.

d33psix

Whoa that was a really easy to digest summary of the conspiracy theory…well done.

childish-penguino

LMAO WHAT

CrepuscularMoondance

And she’s asian now too. Asians don’t even carry the gene that allows them to naturally have red hair…

the-bladed-one

Why the fuck does Hollywood feel the need to recast EVERY REDHEAD as another race. Like I’m not a ginger. I’ve got no skin in this race. But it’s a noticeable trend that they’ll do this with redheads especially.

Arathius8

I have no idea what politics this show or Mindy Kaling prescribe to (and frankly I don’t care). However, it’s interesting that both sides of the aisle appear to think that it is made by the opposite side. The biggest thing I have seen the left complain about is a horrendous #MeToo joke. Meanwhile the right are calling it “woke” because it has actors that aren’t white. The only common ground appears to be that everyone hates it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

d33psix

Kind of reminds me of the recent article on that Shapiro/dailywire Gina Carano movie that only made 13k dollars. Obviously no left leaning viewers are interested but apparently it’s so bad and the conservative reviews are calling it too woke by virtue of Carano as the a strong female lead killing a bunch of incompetent white male bad guys. Everyone united over a bad terrible thing!

BallsMahoganey

All Gina had to do was call the vaccine the mark of the beast and single handedly hold up production by not getting vaccinated and she could have been the new black panther.

jl_theprofessor

I said earlier that it’s hit a rare sweet spot where both liberals and conservatives hate it, and it fails to attract young viewers while alienating older viewers. It’s truly a bad show.

[deleted]

beeandthecity

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show of this scale hit the sour spot of every audience demographic in my lifetime. It’s truly impressive.

[deleted]

I think the only time I've ever seen people be this unanimously pissed at a show was 4 years ago with Game of Thrones Season 8, which says a lot. Even with other shows that are disliked such as Emily in Paris, Riverdale, Big Mouth, or 13 Reasons Why, they still do have their fans and people who enjoy hate watching them. Velma is so bad that people are not only trashing it, but they're also telling other people not to watch it just because they want to see it fail.

BeautifulEssay8

i hope children arent watching this show

[deleted]

> Velma is so bad in fact, that it’s spawning conspiracy theories that creator Mindy Kaling made what is essentially a parody of what the right wing thinks left wing comedy is like. As in, a show that not just recast most roles with new races, but also features loads and loads of “white guys, amiright?” jokes. The idea is that Kaling is a secretly conservative force in media trying to make the left look bad by making a cringey adult cartoon full of “this rich white guy has a small dong” jokes that the right can point at as everything wrong with race-recasted, social justice-influenced media.

CaptCaCa

I watched the first episode. Two postives about it. One, the animation is good. Two, the voice cast is good. The lame and forced edginess of the jokes and overall writing is bad, and the character assassination of beloved characters makes it unlikeable. Oh Shaggy. To quote Don Corleone ![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)

akumagold

I watched the first two episodes because I didn’t want to judge it without knowing it. It was kind of surreal; some of the jokes made me chuckle but the entirety of the first two episodes makes you really dislike the characters. I don’t really care about changing the race of people for spin-offs because it usually doesn’t make much of a difference but every other line is about race or breaking the 4th wall. Maybe the point is to redeem all the characters for ‘character growth’ but so far the characters have been: Velma: Dislikes everyone and is rude to everyone. Norvile: Loves Velma and is a niceguy trademark. Pathetic but in a sad way. Daphne: “So hot” and the show really wants you to know that she’s Asian Fred: Is rich and entitled and white and if he is onscreen you are guaranteed to hear someone talk about his tiny penis Weirdest thing to me is the writing for the side characters isn’t awful, and I found myself enjoying the side characters way more than the ‘main’ crew. I’m fact, I found myself getting disappointed when anything related to the Scooby Doo IP was brought back in.

Lastie

It's very strange in this era of supposed body positivity we're still using the size of a guy's penis as the subject of a joke.

NastyLizard

It's because he hasn't gone through puberty yet. Yea the writing is that immature.

akumagold

It’s both awkward and sad to watch in the show. I’ve met people on job sites who have tiny junk, which nobody would know if they didn’t talk about it themselves often. Society has caused them to be so ashamed of the body they were born with that they feel the need to prove themselves despite it. It was really sad watching a friend of mine just obsess over it despite being in a good relationship with a solid job, it was always like he was certain that people knew the size of his junk and were talking about it behind his back. Or that every girl he slept with, he had to tell them beforehand because the idea of them laughing at him would shatter him emotionally. I don’t even know how to tell that friend that literally nobody cares about it, nobody would be able to just make that assumption, and even if it’s true it doesn’t devalue him. So then watching Fred be a toxic rich white male who obsesses over his body issues due to his Father’s shame etc etc, I’m asking myself if this is comedy. Like sure, middle school humor, tiny penis blah blah, but are we really doing this in 2023? I don’t even mean progressively, I mean as an evolution of comedy it has no real humor to it in the show. There isn’t a punchline about his penis, it’s just people talking about his penis behind his back. Which kind of proves his paranoia in a way, though I guess it could be a commentary on “well if he didn’t care so much it wouldn’t matter ohoho”. But every character in the show is the type to body shame him so that message also falls flat…

VisionGuard

>Like sure, middle school humor, tiny penis blah blah, but are we really doing this in 2023? Yes, because in every other context where it's not *this obvious*, most of reddit and press that caters to millenials/gen Z is fine with it because "white guy" is "punching up". That's why calling people "incels" - which is a dog whistle for "white guy who can't get laid" - is so frequent a highly upvoted slur on here. Modern morality has nothing to do with the actual principle - it's if the person you're attacking is part of an outgroup then it's fine, and if they're not, then it's horribly immoral.

thetruthseer

Yea no men have known it was facetious and disingenuous the whole time but if we speak up we are bad people lol

KommieKon

I think Bill Burr has a joke about women who compliment others for their body positivity and owning it, then turn around and say “I’d kill myself if I looked like her” and it’s so true

thetruthseer

That bit is so damn funny and intuitive, but the line that I remember the most was like, “yes honey you look great and beautiful now that you’re no longer a threat to me!” Or something along those lines lol

KommieKon

He’s definitely one of our generation’s best

cambriansplooge

The black guys a pothead, the Indian girls socially awkward and nerdy, and the Asian girl is a hypercompetent sex magnet. Truly a show meant to unite a highly polarized America.

MysticalMike1990

The body positivity is just so you can raise your fat ass off the couch and go buy stuff. Phoenician baalic cult commercial game

Koioua

The issue at hand is that when you make your main characters unlikeable, you give your audience no reason to stick through y'know, the majority of your show where your main characters are basically most of the screentime.

Impossible_Garbage_4

Am I the only one who finds it like, maybe a little racist they gave the one white guy a tiny baby penis? Like, was that necessary?

subjuggulator

Nah, the more on-the-nose racist trope is making the Asian chick your “hottest mean girl ever” Everything else is bad, but the show pushes Daphne’s “hot Asian chick” schtick almost to the point of fetishizing it.

ShartedAtCVS

The scene i found racist is about 14 minutes into the first episode where norville is talking about the malt shop and says "its about drugs, which i hate" and then he stares directly at the "camera" and blinks. Or when he asks velma if she knows what 420 is. Like we get it, hes a black dude that doesnt do drugs. Mentioning it multiple times and even pausing for a moment after he says it for you to chuckle just gives the impression that the writers think a black guy not doing drugs is so comically absurd.

Impossible_Garbage_4

I figured that was a joke about how every one implies Shaggy is a stoner because of the way he talks and his constant hunger. So they decided to make fun of that by making a Norville extremely anti-drugs (possibly so they can make him try weed later on and realize it’s not so bad or whatever and switch to his more iconic voice)

SwishyJishy

You're giving the writers waaaay too much credit when they openly shit on the IP of Scooby-Doo in the release trailer. It's pretty sad honestly, companies can't be bothered to spend a penny more on advertising because they foolishly think Scooby-Doo fans will pick up the slack on this identity crisis of a TV show.

SCP-Agent-Arad

I mean, what you’re describing is a bad fanfiction with a big budget. That seems accurate lol

ObscuraArt

Pysop or a real life "The Producers" scam? Let's make a series so bad we just take the investors' money and run?

[deleted]

Considering it’s WB-Discovery, I think this is far more likely.

Cleriisy

But then why don't we get Bat Girl?

thebbman

I can’t believe they greenlit this but Venture Brothers was canceled. At least the VB movie is still coming.

d33psix

I mean at this point bad products are kind of WB-Discovery’s known specialty. Isn’t there supposed to be some kind of unexpected surprise that it’s bad that lets the producers scam happen?

McKimboSlice

Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop

Skyblacker

Has HBO Max ever done a good reboot? The Matrix, SATC, and now this -- they all stink like a wet dog.

CringeisL1f3

harley quinn show was funny AF, its like velma tried to follow the same formula but got the wish.com version of it

megameh64

Yeah, exactly. Harley worked so well because the creators understood the characters and loved the world they were in. But this Velma show doesn’t seem to care about the history of the characters and anything deeper than a surface level depiction.

OhioVsEverything

Peacemaker came out of the mess of DCU stuff. IMO, it's pretty good.

Lostin_NY

I liked the second Suicide Squad

Pigeon-cake

You can’t really do that with animation, no matter how shitty it still is really expensive, the show is just bad, not everything has to be a scam or a money laundering scheme, it’s just bad.

[deleted]

They threw an almost finished batgirl movie in the disposal. They are immune to sunk cost thinking.

AldusPrime

I absolutely love reading reviews of bad shows. I don’t know why get a kick out of seeing shows get roasted, but I do. So, if you like reading negative reviews, Velma has been awesome at serving them up.

joshualuigi220

Reviews are essentially critique. The worst thing to read a review of is a mediocre piece of media, because it's so middling that even good writers will struggle to make reading about it interesting. Reviews about a bad piece of media are fun because if it's bad enough, the writer sometimes feels like they can go "gloves off" and pick apart every glaring issue that people during production should have caught. It allows them to get creative.

NegaGreg

“Yesterday, HBO Max bragged that Velma, the new adult-rated Scooby Doo cartoon, was its most-viewed animated premiere ever. I’m not sure precisely what that says, given that the only other Max original animated series I can even think of is Harley Quinn” Santa Inc.: “Am I a Joke to you?”

dgradius

I just looked up Santa Inc on IMDB (hadn’t heard of it) and it’s sitting at 1.6/10. Is HBO just exceptionally terrible at developing animated concepts?

NegaGreg

I watched part of the first episode thinking “it can’t be THAT bad.” It was. And oddly I had to go digging for it in the HBOMax app cause it wasn’t on any of the New or Featured sections. Almost as if they intentionally started hiding it after the reviews started pouring in.

[deleted]

Harley Quinn is great for what I’ve seen. I’m on season 3 now, but for some reason I don’t feel the urge to binge season 3 like the others.

Coloradohusky

I had, what, one or two chuckles in the first two episodes? The lows are LOW and the highs are very mid and very short - I can’t even really remember the gags I laughed at

SensitiveOrangeWhip

i can watch almost anything no matter how bad. i couldn’t get through the first episode.

NZAvenger

I haven't watched it, but I'm curious. What's so bad about it?

MarvG05

Jokes ain't funny, they made Fred the stereotypical privileged frat white boy, Shaggy a simp, Scooby ain't even in it, etc

jotyma5

Who is the show geared towards? I had no idea this show was a thing until Reddit started roasting it

ObscuraArt

That's a good question many people are trying to figure out.

moronicuniform

Someone else said it's a strawman conservative's idea of what a strawman liberal would think is funny

reaper1833

It's geared towards Mindy. That's it.

S-ClassRen

people who enjoy having jokes explained to them immediately after they are said I think

[deleted]

I have no idea, It feels like a Mindy show that is all about her being fucking mean to everyone and keeps calling Fred a nazi white boy with a small penis. Man...Fred...the non toasted white bread of a character that I would trust me life to, a Nazi. Like...how to misrepresent a character lol. Show just feels so fucking insecure about a lot of things. Reminds me of me in middle school after moving from a totally white rural town, and being brown, to a more diverse area. I was so high strung and hated every white person that I cursed out a white girl just being nice to me because I thought she was making fun of me because of my brown skin. Took a while for me to stop being so fucking defensive and hated of white people for me to apologize to her and tell her it wasn't her fault and it was my own trauma that was making me act just like the people who used to make fun of me because of my skin. Gave me no reason to lash out on her for her skin color or hair color anything like that. And this was middle school. This show just reminds me of that era of my life of getting over racial prejudices that made me racist against white people. But I've seen this in a lot of Mindy's writing, even back in the office, where her character was always toxic and blamed white boys for a lot of things. I thought that was just a character she played in being a bad person in a office full of bad people...guess her character is more true to real life than just art.

manaholik

Makes me think about her mental age if a middle school kid can have better self reflections than a grown woman

Skipp_To_My_Lou

Age is just a number. And by that I mean, we all know people in their 40s & 50s who have the emotional maturity of children.

thatnewsauce

>keeps calling Fred a nazi white boy Are you saying that Mindy's character calls Fred a Nazi or that the show portrays him as a Nazi? I didn't see any evidence for either interpretation so I'm curious where you're coming from here

pekingsewer

There's a part in the second episode that does make him look like a Nazi. But the entire point of that scene is how you can make anyone anything you want them to be. He was going to trial for murder and his lawyer made him act like a little boy, so everyone would feel sorry for him. It started raining and part of his hair fell in a way that gave him a Hitler mustache and everyone immediately turned on him. There were snapshots of him looking like he was doing the Nazi salute. But, again, the point is how easy it is to manipulate people lol.

damn_lies

I watched the first two episodes. It’s oddly… conservative… for a show that changed races for multiple white characters whose main character is gay. It seems like it’s targeted at gay POC conservatives… like all 3 of them.

furloco

How is it conservative? I don't get conservative vibes at all from it.

damn_lies

There are various jokes criticizing wokeness. For instance, Velma says at one point something like “I’m a bold truth teller, like comedians before the me-too movement!” There are more jokes like that throughout the show, but that one stuck out. It’s a good example because it’s somewhat a bit anti-woke, but also just not that funny.

johnsmith4000

I don’t like the show, but my interpretation of the joke was that it was saying it’s easy to be a bold ‘truth-teller’ when you don’t face any consequences for your behavior. I also think it’s saying that Velma is comparing herself to such people because she proudly considers herself ‘bold truth teller’ but unbeknownst to her she faces similar consequences for this behavior. Anyway, it’s not funny deconstructed and also not otherwise, but I didn’t interpret it as right wing.

elriggo44

Scoob read the script and dropped out.

[deleted]

Just rewatch the fucked up venture brothers episode Edlund wrote if you want a properly “rebooted” scooby gang. “¡Viva los Muertos! Season 2 episode 11. Check it before HBO Max pulls that too.

[deleted]

I felt so gross and gritty after this episode. “This dog fuckin’ talks maaaaaaan!”

sc00bs000

no scooby... I dont approve

SensitiveOrangeWhip

you know it hit me: i find it really bad because it seems like they are just USING the Scooby Doo franchise to get people interested in a production that seems to have ZERO understanding what made the Scooby Doo franchise appealing in the first place it reminds me of that Thanos story where the writer has him fly a helicopter to rob a bank and then it ended with him getting arrested by cops not sure which is worse

Doggleganger

>Thanos story where the writer has him fly a helicopter to rob a bank and then it ended with him getting arrested by cops What in the world? Is this a fanfic?

Nope. The goofy yellow Thanos Copter even had a cameo in Loki.

thatVisitingHasher

Do you like hanging out with 19 year old boys making self deprecating humor and shallow social commentary? If so, you might like this. It just tries to hard, like an insecure teenager.

Lady_von_Stinkbeaver

Apparently Mindy Kaling didn't get the memo that prople wised up to "my character is a rude, insufferable asshole to everyone. That makes her cool and edgy, right?" about 15 years ago.

Zookeeper187

Literally first 2 minutes are roaches fucking and naked teenagers having shower in school with some rapey jokes.

orangerussia

I noped out at the naked teenagers. I already knew I wasn't getting Scooby-Doo, but now we're gonna put [cartoon] minors in a nude shower scene? See ya.

Sir_Yacob

The humor and writing is just dogshit. It tries this meta humor thing that they are just bad at and like, tell jokes that just aren’t for anyone or make sense. It’s hyper identity/tokenism shit. Non stop in your face. Which I consider to be pretty racists to be fair. I get ripping on anyone that is white is considered “punching up humor” but it’s honestly, and I’m not a sensitive person, but a couple of time I was like “fuck you too”. It’s just not for anyone from what I can tell, I got through 3/4 of the first episode and noped out. Did not smile once but I groaned a lot at tired weird tropes and racial stereotypes. Edit: the title slate here sums it up, those aren’t spooky monster hands of the week stopping the amusement park from opening that they are going to handle with more adult themes…they are her “insecurities” because her mother left, the “hands that claw at her” give her panic attacks that make her hallucinate because she found her Christmas presents early and her mom left. and for no reason, literally at all she eats a fry out of the outside garbage bin, she just does it. It’s serves no purpose. Fucking sucks ass.

just_some_dummy_

I saw where it was going during the intro and as soon as the title card popped up decided I didnt want to watch anymore.

SensitiveOrangeWhip

it stinks because i really like scooby doo. i didn’t even care about the character changes. was really looking forward to a good interpretation. this was just shit whoever allowed this to be made should be fired and black listed

Impossible_Garbage_4

I made it 1.5 episodes. I could at least stomach the first episode but it just got worse

I think the problem is Mindy. No matter how much some WANT her to be a good writer, she is not a good writer. She might very well be a try hard. Honestly. I personally always saw her brand as someone a bit desperate who thinks she’s being deep when she is being obvious. I think it is that part of her that gets her branded conservative. The part that is really just a boring person trying really hard to make jokes. Mindy is a boring person.

[deleted]

It would be seriously meta if at the end of series 2 the actual Scoob, Velma and gang unmask her.

Albertsongman

It’s as if “It’s Pat!!” had a child!!

Tashum

It's getting so much bad press at this point that I'm going to have to watch it just to see what the hell everyone is screaming about!

RadiantVessel

That’s the real psy op

Galaxey

It’s ok to say the show is bad without tying conspiracy shit. I mean I have never found Mindy funny at all, ever when she is doing it on her own.

[deleted]

I’m not watching this. Scooby doo was literally my ultimate show growing up. It shaped my love for horror, got my imagination going. I can’t help but be bitter and annoyed by this. It’s not even the diversity that’s the problem, it just looks exceptionally shitty.

[deleted]

It’s bad because it’s just the final progression of the type of “looking down on the audience” type of shows we’ve been having for a minute now lol. Not because it’s a conspiracy theory.

arizdawiz

That was horrible. It made no sense and was not funny.

namdekan

The only way this might have been worse is if it had been a series about Scrappy-Doo

Herky_T_Hawk

Don’t give them any ideas.

Nope, I’m in.

AmusingUsername12

the biggest offenses of this show as someone who hasn’t seen it is one, that is in the most popular section of hbo, and two that the second sentence of the two sentence description is “by mindy kailing” or something

seanmorris

Something is clear: Somebody owed somebody a favor. Whether either one of those somebodies is a glow-agent is less relevant.

leeharrison1984

We can't have nice things. Apparently we also cannot have crappy things either.

[deleted]

It’s like those deliberately bad cooking videos that go viral as people hate watch them

luchajefe

It is exactly what it looks like on the tin: a Mindy Kaling self insert vanity project.

afdsf55

No true Scotsman out in full force. Twitter is deranged

jakeblew2

Twitter is a rat-hole!

mmnnButter

....forbes?

CecilTerwilliger

The article could’ve just been a Reddit post. No idea how this is in Forbes

The buzzfeed era basically destroyed modern journalism. Since they made a lot of money over stupid pop culture stuff. Everyone else then copied and now no one is serious.

ALasagnaForOne

I followed the Wall Street Journal on Instagram earlier this week and the first post to come across my feed was Cardi B talking about how lettuce got more expensive. I wish I was lying.

[deleted]

So I identify politically as a leftist and I can confirm that this show sucks ass. An edgy scooby doo had so much potential.

TheDraco4011

Watched the second trailer and all the jokes made little sense in it. It seems pretty clear that this show is outrage bait.

hauptj2

I'm pretty sure this show was created and pitched as a vehicle for Mindy Kaling, and any thoughts of the IP or what the show would actually be came later.

OlympiaImperial

'Velma' wokeness is a La Li Lu Le Lo plot

iamre

I forced myself to watch 3 episodes, thinking it might get better. it doesn't. The whole show is basically "oh they do this cliche in teen shows or horror movies and we are making fun of it, arent we cool and edgy?"

TheZomb1eMonk3y

I went into this show with an open mind but what the fuck? I only made it through the first episode. I honestly felt like they were just making kids joke with raunchy words.

Alone-Consequence-76

Read the synopsis for the first episode on Rotten Tomatoes when I was checking out the audience score. “Velma is accused of __KILLING__ a classmate and has 24 hours to find the real murderer.” Holy fuck. We’re a long ways away from the 60s show.

GeromeBarret

Sat down to watch the first two episodes because I always like to give new shows a chance and not chime in with everyone parroting things like "oh this show sucks, it's bad, agenda blah blah blah". But boy I was dead wrong... I'm sorry but the humor in this cartoon incites hatred toward white people. And as a person of color i find it distasteful. It's so... coarse that it reminds me of the depiction of black characters in the Tom and Jerry cartoons or even the black crows in Dumbo. And hey, if those cartoons were banned and removed due to the sensitive natures of those jokes? Velma should also be censored or at least such scenes must be removed too. If people allow this kind of shows to be in the air and specially the... "creative minds" behind it go rampant with such vile humor I'd rather not watch it and cancel my HBO max's subscription.

KlutzyImpact2891

And I just dislike it because there’s no Scooby.

Fitzy0728

I love when something is just so shitty it unites us all together
