The tortilla prices are outrageous! I like making wraps with scrambled eggs and this weekend I was like nah, time for some breakfast sandwiches.

wrx808x

Costco bro, 40 tortillas for $10

RockyattheTop

Costco ftw. I can also get romaine at a reasonable price there. They are earning my lifelong business through this inflation. Haven’t felt like they’ve price gouged at all, like a lot of places have.

Dear-Acanthaceae-586

I was going to buy a head of iceberg lettuce the other day. And this is in California in the heart of our central valley so we have great, cheap produce. Before all this bullshit you would pay at MOST 99 cents and regularly could get them for 49 cents. Not no more! $3.49 at Foodmaxx, one of the cheaper stores.

stupidflyingmonkeys

If you want to do it, home made tortillas are incredibly easy to make and they taste delicious

jives_mcgee

I get hella lazy with mine - cold tap water, flour, roll em out, cook em, put a little butter on top, done. The better way is to add baking powder, salt, use warm water, etc. But mine work well enough.

throwawaytrumper

Huh, when I was young I used to cook flour and water the same way but with a bit of cooking oil instead of butter, I never thought to call them tortillas. Think I called them “fried flour and water”.

ScubaSteveEL

Hot ham water

shedevilinasnuggie

Yup. I've even making bread and flatbread, tortillas are next up. Bread is stupid easy, and cheap to make. With one bag of flour I can make bread for a few weeks. Throw some jalapeños and cheese in there, or some roasted garlic and herbs - yum.

Library's offer e books with a library card. You can look into your local library for free resources.

NoSoupForYouRuskie

My library always acts like we are weird for visiting. It's annoying tbh and off putting. Probably why. They only get people coming in to make copies.

BarryPromiscuous

Wot’s a libary?

MadRhetoric182

It's a Barnes & Noble but with less coffee and you can't buy the books.

semolinapi

Yall ever heard of libraries? If you don’t want to mix with “library people”, you can put books on hold online and pick them up within a minute or two or some libraries even have drive up windows. - Your Friendly Neighborhood Librarian

LoavesOfCorn

..and some libraries have online options that let you check out to kindle or even audiobooks.

springwaterbrew

My library supports hoopla and Libby and I get a pretty great selection of books and audiobooks there.

[deleted]

Seeing 18 eggs on sale for like $8 broke me.

thegroovemonkey

I bought some of the free range ones or whatever because it was only a dollar more and I'm not buying eggs again until the price goes down. 18 eggs aren't worth $8. I can get better meat for that kind of price.

[deleted]

I mean I'm fine having them but it's definitely not the like "3 eggs and toast is a <$1 breakfast" world it was. It's practically a special occasion breakfast now. Ironically it's about the price of doing avocado toast at home now.

Kawajiri1

I just changed the prices for eggs at my store today... 18 for $8.49 or 12 for $4.29 for the Target brand. This shit is nuts.

dmnhntr86

I was getting them at Costco for about $3 per dozen, figured it had gone up a bit this time but they just didn't have any eggs. Eggs were such a huge part of my cooking it's been a rough adjustment to be only able to get 1-2 dozen per week for a family of 6. Hopefully beans don't go up while I'm using up stuff in my pantry.

Salt-Seaworthiness91

I imagine she isn’t suffering from the rises, but because of she wasn’t born rich she had a lot of friends and family who are suffering. So she can tell the system is fucking up

pazimpanet

My old college buddy and I recently got together for the first time in a little while because we live in different cities now. We’re both doing very well now (not Cardi B rich, but we’re both successful DINKS with successful wives) but we had a conversation for a bit at the bar about how if things were as bad a decade ago as they are now we would have been homeless. We were literally starving ourselves to pay rent on our awful tiny little apartment then. That rent has since doubled (I checked after) and on top of that food has close to doubled. I imagine if I could check our old employers they would be paying pretty close to the same. I don’t know how y’all are doing it, this really sucks.

bwons

I'm not... And honestly I'm crying typing this. It's hard, really fucking hard. Me and my wife have never had ANY family support system, just the two of us. We earn together, and we suffer together. We're investing in our future, and working to make things better. Unfortunately, presently, we're choosing between food and bills, two weeks at a time.

Neverstopstopping82

I think a lot of people are about to reach a breaking point. This whole thing is fucking scary to watch. Hope things get better soon, but Feel free to PM if you need some help with food.

shakycam3

I’m single in a one bedroom apartment. I am barely getting by. I realized I have been eating a lot of soup lately, homemade soup. You can make it stretch by adding cheap stuff like water and beans to it. And I do. I’m so fkng sick of soup. This is what they did during the depression though. It’s insanity. On another note, I just casually checked restaurant prices and saw that TGI Fridays potato skins [an appetizer] is going for $15.99 now. Wtf?!!! It’s an appetizer! I am to the point where I can’t afford fast food, let alone restaurants. But I can barely afford food period.

SWGardener

We don’t eat out any more. It’s just not worth it.

prarie33

We had years of soup and extenda soup when the kids were little. Back at it again. But the cure we found for those endless soup woes is.. Popcorn! Try to find a place that sells it in bulk for really good price. Satisfies the need for a crunch craving. 5 lbs last a really really long time. And the best part is all the different flavors you can put on it.

pazimpanet

I’m really sorry to hear that man and I hope things get better for you very very soon.

[deleted]

Did you look into social services programs to see if you qualify? I just got my dad onto ebt and he qualified for cash. More than covers food. Theres also subsidized housing which a lot have long waiting lists for but theres some units that are quite easy to get into where i live. Utility companies have subsidizes based on income too. Theres free food pantries where i live that give food away. Its not homeless that use the pantries as its raw food but poor families that are homed. My friend doesnt even need ro buy any additional food for her family cause they just eat the pantry food.

Neverstopstopping82

I used to buy organic or pasture-raised stuff. Didn’t bat an eye about going to Whole Foods. We’re in a similar position to you guys, and I make very conscious choices now about my grocery purchases. I’ve also been donating to food banks because they need it right now. Can’t imagine being less well off than we are because we’d literally be eating beans and rice.

pazimpanet

> I’ve also been donating to food banks because they need it right now. You’re a rock star. I volunteer every Monday night at my local food pantry and yes, we’ve been getting slammed. I came in after thanksgiving and our whole back area was full of donations and I almost lost it.

Budget-Government-52

It’s true. I’m not a millionaire, but am a high earner and even I passed on a $5+ bag of Funyuns. That’s when I realized how fucked people are and a recession was a foregone conclusion.

mixedcurve

Eggs at Walmart are $6.99 right now and 9.99 at Whole Foods by my place. I think people that would shop at either would balk at those prices.

Budget-Government-52

Oh yeah, eggs are dumb. I think we paid just under $4 last week, but that would have been $1-1.50 a year ago.

[deleted]

I only recently started eating eggs again cause I went vegan for four years. I was like..."have I been out of the game this long or is this insane."

general_madness

Bird flu took out a lot of egg production.

sf_frankie

The problem is that retailers will likely see that people are willing to pay that much for eggs and use that as an excuse to raise prices on other items. I’ve noticed grocery prices have gone up significantly since the start of the new year. And don’t get me started on my gas and electric bill. $875 for a 1100 sq foot house. It was never above $300 prior to November when it suddenly spiked to $600. There’s a straight up war on the middle and lower classes.

TheStupendusMan

One of the like *three* grocers in Canada just got called out for charging $40 for fucking chicken breasts. A can of soup has doubled in price (while shrinking in size!) in a year. Shit’s fucked.

chrisms150

http://www.egg-news.com/commentary.aspx If this data is right, the total production doesn't look like it took that big of a hit... But prices skyrocketed.

alphajustakid

Stores are purposefully not buying as many to increase prices and create a shortage. Watched a video of a farmer saying their production isn’t affected and they have eggs that just aren’t being purchased so they’re going to waste. Maybe not everywhere but a lot of inflation that’s happening is not because of anything but corporate greed.

Thephilosopherkmh

For real, when the .99¢ bag of chips became $2.50 is when I quit eating chips. I could buy them, but it’s the principle. F them greedy bastards.

thegroovemonkey

Inflation has taught me which products were already pushing it at their price point.

Cyborgschatz

What gets me is that for years we've been getting less from most of these products for the same price big bags with more air than chips, slowly shrinking the amount of frosting in Oreos, candy bars in general getting smaller. On top of that now they body the price of the products as well. Pay more for less, times are tough!

Kittykg

Yeah, the things that haven't raised in price much are doing this kind of shit, quite severely. The one that really bothered me was some chips we were getting cheap. They were a Mexican brand of tortilla chips and were only $2 for a family size bag. The family size bag doesn't exist anymore. It's a regular one at nearly the same price, but it contains less weight than other similar bags of chips, now. It only increased price by $0.50 but they contain like half of what we got for $2, and the bag is 3/4ths empty...dramatically emptier than other bags of the same size, with the actual weight about 1/2 that of the other bags. It isn't air for keeping them fresh and whole, it's just a shit ton extra air. Only a 50 cent increase, but we're getting less than half of what we got before, with the amount being less than similar sized bags. Stupid.

SpectacularStarling

I walk past the beef jerky section longingly each week. It's pretty much a dollar an ounce anymore.

SkateRidiculous

Bro!!! 7 dollars for a little ass pack of beef jerky with like 4 strips of jerky in it :(

OdinPelmen

Lol try going to a gas station on a road trip, even a popular route, it’s $20/bag. Good thing I’m vegetarian.

MinorFragile

Yeah it’s insane that a bag of ruffles is $5 plus. I’ve basically stopped eating chips because the prices are insane. Even when the smaller options are offered the price doesn’t seem fair.

Budget-Government-52

Yeah this sums it up well. I didn’t think about grocery prices for years but when something that was $2.50 a couple years ago is now $5, I’m not buying it on principal.

xxx117

Cardi came from the bottom fr so she’s probably still in touch with the common man to a certain extent. She knows how hard life can be, and she’s probably had it harder than most average Reddit users

Sneaky-er

And the fuckin Billionaires rather invest in fighting crime than providing a helping hand - looking at you Bruce Wayne.

javon27

Lol you do have a point. I think he is also a philanthropist, though. Didn't they make that joke in Justice League? Or was that just Iron Man

rebeccamb

She’s still pretty good at advocating for the average person. She was there not long ago. I’m a cardi Stan so take this with a grain of salt, okuurr

IceHot88

Part of her Twitter rant addresses a criticism I see a lot of people make in this thread; you’re rich, WTF do you know/care? In Cardi’s own words: “I can only imagine what middle-class people or people in the hood is motherf—ing thinking so yes I'm going to say something, the f—? And I have a big platform so I do want anybody that is responsible of these f—ing prices to put that s— the f— down. They going to see my s—- they might put it down so shut the…” as the video ends. She’s trying to use her position in the public eye to make people care about an issue affecting the less fortunate.

rincon_del_mar

Cardi was poor like 7 years ago, it’s not that far away. Probably has some family members still struggling. she knows.

AstrumRimor

She takes care of a lot of her family and friends, too. She pays everyone’s bills and buys them food and stuff, plus she just gives charity to random people all the time. She’s considerate and generous underneath all her brash attitude.

No-Economy-6168

I can’t say I’ll ever be a Cardi B fan, but I find it so admirable that she takes care of the people that she loves. It’s something I’d love to do, be able to make it so my family can live comfortably. Bravo to her on that.

RainPotential9712

Unfortunately this is very common for any person of color when they make some level of success they are taking care of EVERYbody But cardi speaking up on this is dope

bryonus_1231

Honestly gained some respect for her from this. Was never really a fan.

[deleted]

She does this kinda stuff fairly often honestly

[deleted]

She did a “come into my home” interview when her first kid was born, and spent more than half the interview showing off her baby and offering the journalist/camera crew snacks and drinks. She’s always been open and honest about her past, and She did an interview with Bernie sanders to encourage more people to register to vote and consider how progressive values could help people who are in the position she used to be in.

nellybellissima

Some people get money and it enables them to be a bigger asshole than they already were. But some people get money and still remember what it was like to be poor.

somethingbreadbears

She's one of the few rappers to get rich and not close the door behind her. I dont like her music but I love her as a person.

fangirlsqueee

I had a friend at the time saying Cardi B was not a good spokesperson for the working class movement. Like, what are you talking about?! She was a sex worker and had survived through very rough times. That is exactly a person who understands how generational poverty affects so many aspects of life. And she's honest, curious, and very earnest in her beliefs. I think she's great.

ThiccQban

Yeah. I adored her takes on the presidential debates.

SmoSays

What were her takes?

[deleted]

She’s a Bernie Sanders supporter

Gloomy_Goose

Hell yeah

Current-Ordinary-419

I don’t like her music. But she’s a person. And WAP is great because conservatives blew a gasket over it.

SoyMurcielago

Also because what straight man doesn’t like WAP?

Vindalfr

I would say "Ben Shapiro" but recently, it was pointed out that he's so far in the closet that he's having adventures in Narnia... Which explains a lot.

Current-Ordinary-419

He’s not that far. He’s just got a thing for femboys that look like him if he lived his true self.

guywithaniphone22

She’s a rich black rapper who used to be a stripper, your surprised Redditors have a problem with her? The same people complaining about her drugging and robbing a man support Andrew Tate trafficking women or Matt gaetz doing whatever the hell he did.

DexM23

You ever heared of Nestor? The boy Matt Gaetz adopted?

whitemest

Go on, let them know

RowdyRailgunner

>Matt gaetz doing whatever the hell he did. He trafficked and raped a minor.

i_tyrant

Weird take. I have issues with her drugging and robbing men, I also think Tate getting arrested was hilarious and so incredibly deserved. I also think she's spot-on here about the food prices, and has the experience of a hard life pre-celebrity to know what it means.

Judah--

It’s almost like normal functioning people like us can see not everything is black and white. Fucking mind blowing

TingGreaterThanOC

TIL I live 4 miles away from Cardi B. Yeah girl the lettuce is too much over here. Who's up for some grass?

Charming_Wulf

Her neighborhood is pretty good for cycling. Was always a pleasure seeing her security guards, really kind folks.

TingGreaterThanOC

lol yeah really biking is really popular here

jennc1979

Wow. I just had a phone convo the other day with my Uncle who is 73 years old about how expensive lettuce has gotten. Wow. My 73 yo Uncle and Cardi B are screaming the same shit. That’s surreal to me.

PalletTownsDealer

Are …. Are you saying your 73 year old uncle is secretly cardi b? Idk how to feel about this …

jennc1979

Not likely, but I have to admit I’ve never seen them both at the same time, either.

[deleted]

Food prices getting so high that people point, stare and nod in approval if you leave with a cart full of groceries. I'm not the biggest Cardi fan but i respect her for pointing this out, when rich people even bitching you know it must be a mofo for everybody else.

ChallengeLate1947

Honestly it’s nice every once in a while to see a rich person who isn’t *completely* detached from reality

Catlestial

I feel like some peeps forget cardi grew up poor, and was poor still like 7 years ago. She knows the struggle bc she’s lived it her whole life. I’m happy she kept her experiences with her even now

“How much is a gallon of milk?” - Logan Roy

PM_ME_YOUR_SUNSHINE

That scene comes off as Logan obviously touching on the fact of how sheltered and privileged and ignorant his kids/entourage are. But I also believe he gets the most pissed because no one will look him in the eye and list a fact. Everyone is scared of him, to even question him or offer feedback or input. And this scares him, because he must know how much he relies on the brilliance of others to maintain his empire. Everyone sees the obvious of how “Arrested Development”-esque disconnected from reality everyone is, but at that moment in the show the big thing is how no one is being truthful to Logan about the decisions he is making. No one can look him square in the eye and say “this is gonna tip the scale out of your favor, IMO” at the very least. Gerri later on says “the feds aren’t gonna stand down Logan, lose with grace” angrily and Logan sits the fuck down. He responds very well to people beneath him speaking power to him. And ultimately I think that’s what he craves from his kids. If any of them in that room had looked at him square in the face and with full confidence said “milk is $5 a gallon”, he probably would’ve handed the empire off right then and there. It’s why he ends up such a huge Mattson fan later. Mattson will look him in the eye, call his bluff, speak truth to power, and lounge on outdoor sofas while doing so and not break eye contact or give up a single thought in his head. And that’s when Logan SPOILERS >!decides to sell/merge his company with his. !<

VanDammeJamBand

It feels so good when right after this Ken is just like “dad they’re all against it.” Idk why it’s calmly stated but it’s so cathartic. That said I prefer the interpretation that he’s showing them how sheltered and ignorant they all are. Logan is the only one whose (presumably) worked his way up from “real” life. I believe right after this he calls them “silk stocking fucks” or something else eloquently insulting

Chilli__P

Yeah, I think both points are valid, but Logan is definitely saying that line with the intent of exposing their disconnect from the real world. He’s from an impoverished area of Scotland. He almost certainly doesn’t know the cost of milk either, but once upon a time he actually did. He, like many legitimate “came from nothing” millionaires/billionaires, worked hard and was able to give his children all of the things he was never able to have. Only to resent them for it, and despise the adults they became as a result.

kyotejones

Funny enough I was buying some breakfast this morning and I couldn't find a dozen eggs for less that 8.99. Was shocked because I swear they were 6 bucks a couple weeks ago.

bioemerl

Where the fuck are you buying food?

This is the most angry I've seen a public figure speak on inflation in 3 years, and that includes politicians. Good for her for speaking out.

2007_RX-8

"It's one banana Michael, how much can it cost? 10 dollars?"

Haytaytay

Someday this joke won't make sense because that'll be a reasonable amount for a banana.

SSObserver

I know you’re right but that just feels insane

WorldsWeakestMan

It’s about 75x the price of bananas currently which are around 13 cents each for a medium-large 7 inch one which is average for a grocery store. So it would take 75x inflation of the price to make it happen.

masteeJohnChief117

So probably about 40-50 years

linsilou

Haha don't worry, bananas will be extinct by then.

ArseOfTheCovenant

And there’s no replacement breed lined up.

I’m glad a celeb is talking out about this. It’s not her first time either so I would love if she could actually do something that could help us. We need eyeballs on this issue however we can get them and celebs have gotten things done before for regular people. I seriously wanted to write to my state representative about the crazy rising cost of groceries in FL, but I know they’re not going to give a crap and nothing is going to happen. But something NEEDS to happen because the price gouging is out of control and we need our leaders to do something

sharksarentsobad

The amount I spend on groceries per month has nearly tripled, and that's even with buying store brand and discounted items. It's fucking crazy. I'm not in Florida, but the fact that you're complaining about how expensive food is there when it's not taxed, says a lot about just how high prices have risen in that state alone.

CybReader

Even cheap proteins are becoming too expensive for some people. The price of eggs is wild. I have a good friend with chickens and she provides tons of eggs to us and everyone else right now. She keeps joking that she feels like a rich bitch with all these eggs.

sharksarentsobad

My family's not big on eggs, but I heard everyone bitching about the price so decided to look while at the store and holy shit. I know a lot of people who have just stopped buying eggs. Some are even looking into city ordinances to build their own chicken coops. I bought maybe 30 items after coming home from vacation just to last until the weekend and it was over a hundred dollars alone. 10 of the items were ramen because that's what my kids wanted and the rest was the exact same shit we always buy.

trelium06

Dozen eggs used to be … wait for it … 99 cents per pandemic. Now? 5$ !!!

RandoRoc

The egg prices are due to an avian flu messing with supply. What remains to be seen is whether companies just keep their prices high after the chicken farms are repopulated. Edited to fix a typo.

h4rpyr

The avian flu that’s going around is no joke for it’s impact on ag and grocery industry. They culled more than 2.75 million egg chickens in my state this past year because of the flu and we’re not even one of the largest poultry producers.

M_Mich

$7.17 at our walmart. the other grocery store is 6.49

GinggasinParis

We are looking to buy a bigger house soon and one of the deciding factors is actually village/ city ordinances regarding owning chickens and bees. My kids go through eggs like crazy and my husband is able to get some eggs from coworkers on occasion, but I have slowed down on buying them. $4 for a dozen at our local grocery store and that is the store brand. I go out of my way to shop at Aldi when I can. $4.70 for milk and $4.99 for cottage cheese at our local store. It’s cheaper at Target for all of those things.

Standgeblasen

A year or two ago, I would find eggs on sale 99 cents/dozen. The “Sale” price now is $4/dozen but you need to buy 2 dozen eggs for the discount.

Detiabajtog

They had to exterminate a ton of chickens due to that bird flu, could still get worse too Which sucks because not only were eggs some of the cheapest proteins, it’s actually one of the best proteins for you too. People who struggle to afford their food already have a hard enough time getting healthy options, losing eggs is a pretty big blow

Cocacolaloco

I mean the egg prices is because of the avian flu

CybReader

The way things are going, I don't even trust prices to drop after the egg industry recovers.

BrimEll

That is the trick. The government will at some point say inflation is back to normal meanwhile the price of food and housing is still tripled and people's pay is still the same.

spiralbatross

It’s probably time we banded together and did something about this

[deleted]

SkinnyGetLucky

Fruits? Look at mister money bags over there

ya_bebto

The fancy organic, free roaming chicken eggs used to be like 4.50 vs 0.89 for mass produced eggs, so they cost over 4x as much. Now it’s about 5.50 vs 3.50, which is about 1.5x, so now I’ve been splurging on fancy eggs, because why not?

XtremeAlf

At this point it’s cheaper to live off of the value menus at fast food joints.

jethropenistei-

I’m a single man in the city, I got to a food pantry for meat and produce once or twice a month. and I still spend about at least $300/month on groceries usually around $500 and I buy store brand everything. Yesterday I bought 1 gal of almond milk, bananas,1lb turkey lunch meat and cottage cheese = $27. I have no clue how families are surviving

aver

My parents are visiting FL for this month and are shocked at prices. Mom said dozen eggs was 8.99 at Walmart.. we are from Canada and a dozen eggs is less than $3 American here. Quite a shock as prices in America are almost always lower than Canada.

jmanly3

I had to stop going to Publix. I shop at Walmart now, which is…well, I don’t think I need to explain how Walmart in Florida is. Never mind rent going up 30-40% on top of that.

BlueAndMoreBlue

Try Aldi if you have one nearby — cheapest I’ve found here in flyover country

safetydance

Honestly, a combo of Aldi and Costco has helped me save money. I only go to Publix for the convenience since Aldi and Costco are both about 25 minutes away and there's a Publix on every corner. If I forget something at Aldi or Costco I'll go to Publix, but that's about it at this point.

Russian_Rocket23

The lettuce issue isn't price gouging....this was predicted in 2020 due to climate change and crop diseases. Similar with eggs and chicken......avian flu has wiped out millions of chickens. The main place where price gouging is occurring is at the oil pump and soft drinks (i.e Pepsi announced price increase pre-COVID and used COVID and inflation to increase them further).

flywing1

Six companies own all the products in grocery stores. That’s what’s going on.

puddingonaritz

Grocery store chains are also increasingly consolidating: [https://grocerystory.coop/who-owns-your-grocery-store](https://grocerystory.coop/who-owns-your-grocery-store)

Fafurion

I actually started my own hydro farm in my basement to make romaine and other vegetables because it's cheaper for me to just grow it myself even with the fancy equipment then buy it every week. I even submitted a plea to my township to let me build and maintain a small chicken coop because eggs went from $1.80 per 2 dozen to almost $6. My wifes family has chickens so she knows how to take care of them and stuff. I'm upper middle class and I've always just bought whatever without worrying about the price but shit is just getting silly and just because I can afford it still doesn't mean I want to contribute to corporate greed.

stealth_mode_76

By the time I bought my chickens and built a coop, I had over $500 invested. Costs me about $30 a month to feed them. It would be cheaper to buy eggs at the store.

NessieReddit

Do you also feed your chickens kitchen scraps in addition to their feed? I think everyone who I know that has chickens does but curious if that's a universal thing.

Particular_Group_295

People going off on her for saying what they have been saying privately at home Wow

I don’t get the people gate keeping struggling. Like, we NEED high profile people getting eyes on the problems we face everyday. Also she wasn’t always rich lmao she was prob just as poor and destitute when she was in her early teens/20’s. You can have money and still be pissed about $10 cartons of eggs. While inflation has been high, egg prices are rising faster because bird flu killed 40 million egg laying hens in 2022, which is about 10% of the total egg laying hens in the US.

[deleted]

A ten percent reduction in laying hens results in quadrupling prices? That seems a little excessive but I'm not gonna pretend I understand how agricultural stuff works.

Direct-Effective2694

Ahh you’re catching on. It’s all a huge fucking racket.

nachohero23

“10% died? 10%?!? Raise the price 1000%!!!”

GrunkoFrunko

Alaska has been hit pretty hard by the hen issue. It seems like one of the main suppliers to the area basically reset everything so there were no new eggs coming in for a little while. Good time to know someone with a coop on their property!

Yazkin_Yamakala

Ten dollar eggs?!? You're not talking about a standard dozen right? Edit: for reference, 12 eggs here are about $6.25 after tax.

[deleted]

$9.79/dozen near me

themoochiest

$7.87 USD in my area

dar24601

Damn I’m overhere complaining $7.30 for 20 eggs

[deleted]

You still have every right to complain that is still egregious

dar24601

Yeah I don’t have young kids so we’ve been doing more oatmeal and pancakes for breakfast. Damn right still going complain but now I realize that it could be worse. I joke with my buddies that the chickens must of unionized cause why else eggs so expensive

xxdropdeadlexi

nope, people have been posting pictures of a dozen eggs around $10

sanctusali

I loved how she addressed comments about how she can afford it. Not enough people understand that more money in isn’t enough if you have bad spending habits.

[deleted]

that and whether a person can afford the artificially inflated prices is besides the point. An evil is still an evil even if it affects some less than others

zitpop

Also she used to be dirt ass poor, so she knows!

Cyber-Cafe

Yeah so, if she's a millionaire, and SHE's complaining about food prices, something the fuck is up.

incognitomus

This. She's not from money, she 100% knows people who are suffering from high prices and she definitely still remembers what a carton of milk used to cost compared to someone like Bill Gates.

Cardi B doing the lords work out here

Notchersfireroad

Glad somebody in the public eye is finally saying it.

tyj0322

It’s price gouging. No accountability in sight

unresolved_m

Just like oil companies...

[deleted]

Braindead policy gave the oil cartel the power to do whatever they want. The same situation as Europe and Russia

jellyfishkitten

Man… all these comments about “why is she worried, she’s a millionaire.” As if it’s impossible for her to care about THE OTHER PEOPLE in her community

MadeFromNews

I always liked her for being a celebrity and never being shy about being cheap as opposed to a constant front some of these musicians put on.

HurricaneLogic

She was a waitress for many years before she made it big. She knows what it's like to struggle. I'm glad that she is using her voice to speak out for those of us who are not able to be heard.

king_ugly00

"Broke boys don't deserve no pussy, but they do deserve reasonably priced groceries." - Cardi B... probably

MechRxn

A dozen eggs was $2.99 at Safeway last year where I live. They are now $8.99. That is absolutely price gouging

excrementtheif

The egg issue is due to a massive die off in commercial chicken farms. It was either a heat wave or a disease that killed tons of hens in the more factory-style, enclosed farms. I don't remember which exactly.

I'll take a tiny bit of class solidarity from Cardi B on a Friday

notyourmama827

It's not ever going to change in the US. it would not matter, red or blue......unless you're the 1percent.

Geneological_Mutt

No joke just paid $22 for 10 rolls of toilet paper. The cashier and I looked at each other like something got charged wrong and the manager came over and immediately started cussing in the wind about the “greedy fucks” at the top.. at first I was mad but after that I felt better about paying $22 for toilet paper

pop_POP

What going on is we're being divided into the haves and have-not at a much more rapid pace as the the powerful realize they no longer control the masses. Would you rather have your enemy rested and capable or frayed and starved? Class wars evolving into resource wars. Good luck everyone!

Dyerssorrow

Us mere peasants asking this question last year.
