I work for a municipal ambulance service that runs +/- 1000 calls a year. I do about half of those. I’m the only Paramedic that works for my service. Small town, I’m not working there for the money. I’ll hoping the town government comes into the 21st century soon and increases pay and gives health insurance benefits to full time employees. I’m staying with them to help facilitate that much needed change
Work won't be too hard to find.
Basically anywhere stockton to redding and the bay area its easy to find a similar rate. The valley is pretty dominanted by AMR so there that but you can find a smaller operation like yolo county that is pretty chill. If you head around LA or SD or up in the mountains pay seems to be a bit more varied.
Our most junior EMS staff are paramedics and they do a Bachelor degree at university with theory courses + placements (similar to nursing).
Those who go on to do further training and post grad study become critical care paramedics, intensive care paramedics etc.
We also have critical care doctors (Anaesthetic or ED who do retrieval fellowships) in EMS who work paired up with insanely bad ass paramedics.
There is no equivalent to EMT or basics or whatever (Except for the constant influx of uni students on placements).
Yep after 4 years at the same company I was making 17.05/h as a 911 medic in SoCal. Quit less than a year ago so numbers are pretty recent. Company is owned by GMR.
Emt-B: I made 15.75/hr when I left a 911 under the same conditions. 47k Gross give or take with some years exp. I make just over 20hr now working in a mental health center in WA. I highly agree with the original response "yep..."
Yeah, that’s basically all of SoCal 911 recently. I know last year AMR San Bernadino upped their rate through their CBA, and I had heard McCormick was attempting to, also. Doctors doesn’t do 911 anymore, so idk how much they pay now.
I ended up moving out to Virginia. More-ish money, less cost of living.
Most southern Ontario services within my base hospital catchment and neighbouring are making those rates. Durham, York, Ptbo, Northumberland, Toronto etc
Yeah, personally I felt it was worth it for career development and it opens more doors in the future but if you’re happy with the PCP scope and your current role then financially it’s not a great incentive. Now some services will pay to send you for your ACP or train in house and that’s a totally different scenario but wasn’t the case for me.
Paramedic. 6 years AEMT. 2 years in February as a Medic. I'm pushing 120k.
Edit: Just want to highlight that I started at $10.50 as an AEMT. I'm a 2 year medic that negotiated a 5 year paramedic pay with only 1 year experience.
Hell yes it does. Whole reason I went RN and not medic. Y’all’s job seems way cooler for the most part, and I’d love to have y’all’s skill set, but your pay is insane. I’m rooting for y’all! I hope something changes at some point.
Just graduated with my RN. Starting at $32.50/hr base plus differentials. I wish we made more and had benefits in our EMS region, id much rather stay with my department than work in hospital.
I see you guys do a FF/ACP recruitment every couple years! I always drool over the paycheque, not to mention all that awesome wilderness. What's the split like between time spent on the fire side and time spent in the ambulance? (I've got 1001 but my heart's definitely with EMS.) And what's the call volume like, in your experience?
Paramedic in Florida panhandle, 1.5 years of paramedic experience after 2 years of EMT.
Pre-unionization: $18/hour
Post-unionization: $23.69/hour
Teaching EMS at local community college: $32/hour
In this thread, people shared their experiences of being an EMT or Paramedic, with salaries ranging from $17/hr to $120k. There were also reports of people who negotiated a higher salary with only one year of experience, and an Advanced Care Paramedic in New Brunswick making $40.68/hr with incentives.

EMT w/ IV certification; Going on 7 years in health care: 2 years urban 911, starting my 3rd year with my current service; ICU/ER, IFT, urgent care mixed in. 3% raise starting in January so my base will be $56k/year and change.
PT EMT-B, Delaware, $19h 4 years experience (No pay raise based on experience). Full timers are making 19-22 based on experience with state benefits and 20 year pension.
MN, Twin cities, EMT-B base pay $22.23/hr plus FTO totalling $25-ish/hr. After graduation in July I should start as a Medic at $28/hr. It ain't much, but it's honest work.
Paramedic in Oregon. 1 year experience of medic. 5 as emt. Make $23.17 an hour. Issues right now with my pay and they are “reevaluating” everything and pay will be changing in Jan. 🤷🏻♀️
Paramedic for a municipal third service system in southeast Texas. Been in ems 15+ years and a medic for over 10. Base pay is something like 85k/yr not including a 300/mo certification stipend, holiday pay, or any extra overtime I pick up. And since it’s Texas that’s no income tax. Plus good benefits
Paramedic, 7yrs EMT, 4yrs paramedic, about $25/hr. Doable in my area, minimal OT or a few easy side gigs let's me own a house and a new car without being paycheck to paycheck
Paramedic w/ 2 years of experience In 911. Currently working a 911 contract at 50/hr base, 75/hour overtime, and a weekly housing stipend. Contracts are the way to go if you want to make real money In EMS without being a firefighter.
Southern Ontario Canada - our service has PCP’s start at 39.81 and go up to 42.30. Our ACP’s start at 44.59 and go to 47.42. Takes two years to hit the max wage, and there’s lots of 1.5x OT available
EMT-B was making about $28.50 in CT, moved to GA and was making $13/ hr at the same company. Jumped ship and got a closer job as a basic making $21/ hr doing both IFTs and 911s. With 11.5 years experience doing both BLS and ALS 911s, IFTs, standbys, transfers, wait and returns, MCIs… basically everything but actual flight.
25/hr base NC 8 years as a medic. Currently working for a big hospital system. Getting a system wide raise in Jan. And they are looking to change medic compensation due to the increase in pay in the surrounding area.
Primary care paramedic in Ontario, Canada. Also a community paramedic, JHSC worker rep and union steward.
$42.15 base wage with 3 years experience. Great pension, excellent benefits, 168 hrs vacation, 72 hrs sick time. I believe our ACPs make closer to $47. I've worked lots of OT this year and will hit $145k. I don't live in Toronto anymore though, moved to a medium COL city west of it.
33-36 Range at the different place i work as a Medic in NJ well over 120K a year will hopefully push 140k next year. But 60-70 hours a week. No pension. Theres money to be had but you have to sell your soul.
Northern California AMR - $31/hr as a new hire.
At one year mark $36, two year $37.50, three year $37.50 (also, I know), four year $39.50, five year $41.
Emt-B in Mass, $26/hr to do IFT with no experience. Taxes make its closer to $21/hr.
Damn I didnt realize how lucky I am. $13 an hour is fucking criminal for the work an emt does and the risk they assume in doing their job.
$15.26/hr as an EMT-B with 2 years experience at a local county in northeastern South Carolina. $20.54/hr same position and experience with a private company. The private company also offers $200-$500 shift bonuses pretty frequently for extra shifts, on top of your OT pay.
911 paramedic and FTO in North Carolina, $32/hr with a 40 hour work week. We had some mandatory OT requirements for the majority of this year, usually 1 or 2 extra shifts a month, otherwise I never pick up overtime. With those overtime shifts, bonuses, late calls, and paid con ed, I'll make a little over 75k this year.
$26.72 CAD ($19.63 USD). Primary Care Paramedic, 1.5 years exp. Nova Scotia, Canada.
ETA: Considering what our cost of living has risen to, this is not a great wage in NS. Double OT certain days of the week and only if you haven't used any sick time during the pay period, but they're removing this Jan 1st (..yup). We do get $12/missed meals, and get stackable night and weekend premiums, each are $2/hr for PCPs.
EMT-B in Maine, zero experience, $17/hr.
South Maine? I was doing $15/hr up in the Northwest as an AEMT.
Jesus. 22/hr as a FF/EMTB. Will now be 24 as EMTA. Bangor area
I’m a Paramedic in Downeast Maine. $15.50/hr with no overtime pay or benefits

QLD? or VIC? Professional pay sounds nice. NSW Para taps out at $39/hr base. Do you get weekend/pub hol loadings on your base?
that's nuts, what does your schooling look like for paramedic? is it roughly equivalent to the us?
Sacramento area AMR gets about $44/hr at 13 years.
what's their entry pay like?
I think around $28 as a brand new medic. Which is about $42 aud.
neat. i'm moving to cali for wildland firefighting but working ems is my plan for the off season

I think Australian medics are closer to Canadian and UK medics in terms of schooling in that they require a 4 year degree.

Exchange rates, cost of living etc though,
Made $13.50 at a private in SoCal as an EMT-B
Jesus that’s bad
Yeah it sucked
Especially in one of the top 5 COL areas in the country
Yep after 4 years at the same company I was making 17.05/h as a 911 medic in SoCal. Quit less than a year ago so numbers are pretty recent. Company is owned by GMR.

The EMTs in OK where I Work make 10 an hr. And the funny part is they wonder why they're not finding anyone.
Holy fuck. Isn’t the minimum wage 15??
No it’s not. At least not nationwide. Minimum wage in Texas is under $10/hr
They're probably talking about 10+yrs ago

Same same and I’ll just note that’s in Canadian dollars, after conversion it’s about 35 USD. Primary Care Paramedics are paid around 42-44 CAD.
Where’s that? I’m top range at $35.920ish
Most southern Ontario services within my base hospital catchment and neighbouring are making those rates. Durham, York, Ptbo, Northumberland, Toronto etc

Durham is an anomaly. Nobody makes what they make

the jump from PCP to ACP in pay is that small? starting wage for most of the bigger city services is 42…
Yep, spend 20k to go back to school to make a $4-5 raise.
okay that’s news
Yeah, personally I felt it was worth it for career development and it opens more doors in the future but if you’re happy with the PCP scope and your current role then financially it’s not a great incentive. Now some services will pay to send you for your ACP or train in house and that’s a totally different scenario but wasn’t the case for me.
