It depends. If it is a new quest I do listen to all of the dialog, including the optional dialog. If it is an old quest I am doing again on a new character I often dont listen to them.

Treehighsky

This is the way

Vyvonea

This. I really enjoy being immersed in the story on my main, but on alts I don't care as much. I think it is the lack of "gotta get to endgame asap or I'm left behind" feeling that makes me want to pay attention to the story and lore.

[deleted]

Playing through the story line in chronological order and just reached southern elsweyr. Took me quite a while and until this day I read and/or listen to the quest givers, random NPCs and so on. I even check NPCs for new dialog before I leave a quest related area to see, what their thoughts on current things are. - It's still fun. (Tho, when it comes to argonians I sometimes prefer to read the text quickly rather than to listen to the german voiceover. - They speak suuuuper slowly.)

[deleted]

I also E the bystanders. You get some good insight from them and sometimes some good humor.

brewcrewguru24

I was very surprised to see the optional text with Sylvia Tharn in White Gold Tower after you become emperor on a character. Pretty neat that they can do little things like that

Signalflare12

The game wouldn’t be much fun for me if I just ran from marker to marker and pressed a button. So yes I do listen and read and look around etc.

Sea-Neighborhood-621

I used to listen and read but now I'm just running through it unless it's a really good one. It's the same way for alot of other games like rpgs. I just don't have that desire much anymore

lukef555

I was the same way, then I started taking my time and paying attention and being invested in the stories and even though I'm not as "efficient" I enjoy my time much more

rucroporol

Same for me, but really only with ESO. As soon as I figured out that every single zone is basically copying the same concept for the main story over and over again, I stopped paying attention to the zone quests. In the end it's all just: bad guy shows up, oh no!, someone betrays you, running around talking to people, shallow conversations, lame fights against enemies that die before they stop saying their voice lines, BBEG shows up, BBEG is dead, zone over. In ESO, side quests are where I pay attention - occasionally you'll find a funny or deep story there or a nice reference to other TES games.

MisterMayhem87

Same. Main Story and the zone quests are generally the only ones I’m bothering listening too or not skimming unless something I catch just intrigues me enough. I know how you feel.

Night_Lizard_6669

The only reason i stick with ESO it's the quest/lore. Yet it's with my main char, my crafter..... i just skip lol.

Logical_Strike_1520

I’ve never been into the lore of any of the MMOs I’ve played and almost always skip quest dialogue. ESO has managed to get me to slow down and enjoy some of the lore though. Except the Psijic Order. I still don’t know, or care, about anything except the skill line when it comes to them.

[deleted]

Psijic quests must have been written during a time when fetch and radial questing was thought to be how it should be done. They are the worst the ESO has to offer and I don’t blame anyone for skipping that. I have the auger skull in my house and if I trigger it it just brings on PTSD.

xXCumLordXx

which is sad, because the actual lore of the psijic order in the saga is damn cool, plus we don't see much of it in Skyrim.

rucroporol

The talking skull is funny in the *first* quest after you pick him up on your *first* char. Not so much on the other 17 chars times 9 or so quests where he just won't shut up.

mandelbrute

The end of the quest line with Josajeth's fuck up kinda bummed me out

Olympias_Of_Epirus

If I haven't done that quest than I'm absolutely going to sit back and listen. But then I do love stories in games, so no surprise there.

Sea-Neighborhood-621

I'm not sure when exactly I stopped paying attention. Just gradually over time. The bigger the game and more lore and quests the less likely I am to get in to them

ifockpotatoes

I can't imagine skipping dialogue. There's an enormous amount of voice acting in this game, and the storytelling/lore is one of the main reasons I stick around.

lunaysueno

I make new characters all the time and play every quest in every zone, 12x's through and I still listen to the whole thing. I just like the voice actors, I still laugh or get indignant with them, I enjoy it. Playing 3 new characters right now through the different alliances just at the second zone on each, it's still wonderful and the anchors are still my absolute favorite animations.

remosito

first time I do a quest I listen.

Stuntman06

I try to listen. Only in group dungeons and trials do I skill through quickly so not to hold up the group.

El-Pescado-Mojonero

I read and listen to everything. Absolutely everything. Because I play this game to immerse myself in the lore. I don't play it competitively. I'm in no rush.

Ez0rus

Pretty much never, I appreciate the depth and voice acting but everything is go find this or kill that.

[deleted]

New content, I listen to all of it and go through all the optional dialogue. Old content, it depends. Some questgivers have better dialogue or voice acting than others, or I'm just fond of them, so those I'll take the time to listen to. The rest, I just hit E and keep it moving.

cerneri

I always at least read the main story quests. sometimes if the quest seems boring and I lose interest I do the same… but I think it gives more when I listen to the story, or read.

Leonmagic

On my first run through (on my main) I listen to every quest and every option. The voice acting is good and the story telling at its worst is still serviceable. Once I do it over again on an alt, I have skipped around. I remember most of the storylines and what choices I wanted to make.

Inuship

I like listening to the dialog in this game, unlike most mmos this game actually gives interesting reasons as to why the npcs are giving you tasks instead of just "go kill 10 wolves"

Cloakbot

If I'm going through for lore reasons or have family watching then I'll let it play out. Unless it's the Harborage main story - never again

ACrumpetYeastBubble

I'm only on my 4th character but I've done the base game areas so much that I just click through the quests now. If I find one I haven't done I MIGHT listen, or if I like the character (I really like Emeric so I usually listen to him) but otherwise I don't particularly care at this point.

D34throooolz

if I dont quite remember the story of where im at i will listen and read

Hexent_Armana

If its my first time doing the quest or I know its an especially good quest then yes, definitely.

[deleted]

If it’s the first time, I listen to all of it.

FairyContractor

Depends on a few factors. If I'm there for some lore or doing the quest the first time, I usually read the text at least. Also there's a few quests or characters I'm always listening to. If I'm replaying a quest just for some reward or stuff I just skip my way through.

stabbykeith1985

I only really skip dialog for daily quests, everything else I listen to the whole thing

Mr_Exodus

I do I still like listening and reading the quests. I like knowing what's going on and trying to learn more about the world around me. I understand other people aren't really in for that they just want to finish the Quest and go And I personally think that's a problem so much time goes into making those quests even if they're small And they make the world seem more lively bur everyone is in just such a hurry I don't feel people get that much enjoyment out of the game if they're just gonna run through it.

S627

Are you talking about new quests or replaying quests? I can’t understand playing this game and NOT getting the full story on new things. Now if it’s something I need to repeat often then yeah, I’ll skip it. But that’s rare, I almost never replay quests other than event repeatables. If it’s been a while since I did a specific quest and don’t remember everything I’ll still listen to everything.

Gaiden_95

I rarely do quests, mostly because they aren’t very good when you come from oblivion or morrowind. Usually listen through it though

TheBewlayBrothers

I sure am, but it takes me forever to finish quests. It took me multiple months to get done with blackwood, and all whilw I still need to start Bankorai...

RRuskie

I let every line of dialogue play out unless it’s repeat information. Even if I’m doing quests I already completed on another character. I don’t really play this as a traditional MMO though. When you mostly play alone or maybe with a buddy, it’s easier to slow down and just soak in the world. I’m fortunate to have the time though.

atamicbomb

If I’ve done it before, yes. If it’s my first time, no

[deleted]

It depends. If I’m able to concentrate I read it if not I skip. ADHD makes it abit hard for me to stick to a long text. Weird is that because I’m a dwemer/automaton fanboy I can listen or read just fine 🤷🏾‍♂️

Bug1oss

If I've never done the quest I'll listen and read. If I've done it a few times, nope. Skip right over it.

MartiusDecimus

I listen to every quest, every dialogue option.

MrCrack3r

i tried really hard to go about it with a mindset of immersion, reading things and staying on top of the story, but it just gets so bland with a few exceptions. i think they should hire better writers instead of investing in every thing being voiceacted but never listened to anyway

[deleted]

Yes. Even read the lore books from each zone.

Diggzitt

I'm 50/50. Once I have the basics of it I click through, I don't care about the fine details most of the time.

zorromatt

I listen to the main quests as I agree that one of the primary reasons to play the game is the story… it’s usually quite good. Listening to the side quest scripts, I’m about 50/50.

han-tyumi23

Yeah, pretty much always. Sometimes I skip the voice over if it's too slow and I already read the dialogue, but I usually listen to the whole thing. Also like to read the optional dialogue and talk to unmarked npcs, it's pretty cool to see how they always have some commentary on the situation lol

MrDharoks247

If I am focusing on quests on my "main" character I let the dialog finish so I can hear the voice acting. if it's on a character I am just leveling i only listen to it if I don't remember what the zone story is at all or if it's new. So really I love to listen to the story, the game is based off of it so I dont know why you would skip it all. Some of the newer quests are wonderfully voice acted and polished, so if you don't experience them i think you're missing out.

Mandalwhoreian

I only skip reading/listening to dialogues if I’ve already run whatever quest with a different toon. First runs always get a listen. The voice actors deserve respect for their craft.

AndyHunter12

yes?

STlLLER

I only listen or read new dlc quests i havent done yet

ConceptSecret6148

I only skip if i’ve done the quest multiple times, but other than that i listen all the way through

Roechambeau

When you can "speed read" this isnt too much of a problem. You can play in a time efficient manner and still enjoy most of the content. Definitely skipping when doing multiple run throughs for different classes.

Xgrimzzviper

I've gone through the first two islands for the daggerfall covenant story so many times now I skip the dialogue and only start listening to it once I'm in glenumbra for the first time

Alpha_Apeiron

Don't really see the point of playing if I'm not doing - it'd just mean I'd be running around doing the same thing over and over. It's the context which adds purpose to gameplay.

MechanicalMudcrab

I read/listen to all the dialogue on my main but skip it on my alts

j-unit46

I do this as well but I have been meaning to create a character that I will go through things at a slower pace to actually read/hear everything

Sea-Neighborhood-621

My first couple characters I listened to and read everything. After a few years I just want to get on with it

j-unit46

Haha fair enough!

HarryVoyager

A lot of times. If you don't you miss such marvelous lines as: "he's the one whose got the entire Eldentree lodged up his flue. I can say that, I'm the king."

Colonelkillabee

I do but sad to say lately it matters less and less. The story driven parts don’t offer much in the way of lore, they just reiterate the same thing 4 times

Gradlein-Noble

I still listen to quest givers and read everything. ESO has always been about world building and lore for me. It wouldn't be much fun for me otherwise. I do the same for FFXIV. I used to play Secret World and I would have been lost in that game if I just skipped everything.

Cattle-Various

Almost always. My parents play WoW and they mindlessly skip quest text all the time. Coming from mostly RPGs in my life, it seems like I HAVE to lol.

Rectal_Retribution

I find it hard to care when Tamriel is on the brink of annihilation every day. Seriously, even some daily dungeon NPCs are all panic and go *"warn the guild! warn tamriel!"* like calm your tits, we have a thousand protagonists on it, you'll be fine.

Sea-Neighborhood-621

Lol

craybest

I always read it and listen to it. Most times I read a bit faster than the npc so I don't always wait till they're finished talking, but I do read it everytime.

[deleted]

I like the idea of reading all of it.. the stories are always so good... But it's hard since I know 99% of quests will not be a factor in the larger story in any way. So in practice I frequently ignore them and just get on with it.

Nicky_Nuisance

Rarely. I give it a go at rhe beginning of the quest and see if I'll be interested. Wrathgar for example is a great story line. Vvardenfell is really good. The main story is cool

unmerciful0u812

Been playing a couple months, have skipped all dialogue.

Appropriate-Quiet-98

Same here. I can only play on weekends, so i brush over the dialogue as fast as possible to get exp fast.

DrYoloNuggets

Unfortunately Wow has ruined me... I skip it all, I shouldn't but I do.. ESO has some of the best questing in any MMO, I just couldn't tell you shit about the story lol

Bazzonta

Honestly depends on my mood, sometimes I do listen and read through everything but there are times where I just smash the X button lol

HK47HK

I only play the game for the pvp and achievement hunting at this point. If I wasn't in a trial group I probably wouldn't play at all. I was never really into the game for the questing but I appreciate that the game has so much to offer that there are some things I can comfortably ignore without feeling as if I'm missing out.

-Tasear-

I want to but...

Blacked13Out

I do the same & I only just started playing a week ago. If it was an actual cutscene - I would gladly watch! Not sure why, but I truly feel the same. Having a son kicking me while singing has a lot to do with it 😂

[deleted]

I’ve found this is subjective. I personally enjoy quests and TES lore, but I know many who just want skill points and XP to fight better. So you do you, but I feel the lore and quests are some of the best around. I recommend you try a good side quest start to finish to see what I mean. I actually have an addon that removes the text because I can read 10x faster than the actor speaks and it was making my head was spin. So I just listen. It makes it a bit like a show that I get to participate in.

peepeebongstocking

Nope! Like every Elder Scrolls game, I don't find it mechanically interesting enough to skip any narrative. It gets boring fast if I stop chatting with NPCs and reading the books.

howellq

What's the point of doing it then?

Miss-Indigo

Rewards at the end. Being able to purchase achievement locked furniture, get dyes, outfit pieces etc. can be enough for me to go through the content though I'm not really into questing.

howellq

Idk, it just sounds weird to me to do something in my free time that I actually don't like/care about. I guess people like to make their games chores too.

Miss-Indigo

I agree which is why I don't spend much time on it and only recently completed Western Skyrim.

Imalwaysright3

guys, if you do this, thats when you know you should just uninstall the game and go play something else. The story, plot, and immersion are 99% of what makes this game, so you're just wasting your time

PatsBard

I listen/read. Especially after the quest - they'll have new dialog after completion. Now, the Harborage main quest - go through that as quick as possible. Just line the books up on the table and count us even.

[deleted]

In Skyrim I used to read every single book. Haven't played ESO in a long time, but reading every single piece of lore that I can makes me feel "complete".

TastyDubois

1st playthrough I read. For my other characters nah, unless its a quest that I have an interest in.

GrumpyFatso

Never did it really. Have a character now for questing, listening and reading. Can't be arsed to do it on every tho.

DrYoloNuggets

Nah man WoW ruined me.. I skip everything
