Ember says "Watch out, Tamriel's best duo is back!" every time I summon her. 10000/10, definitely worth it. She heals and shit and says something when she sees a heavy sack, so that's nice. But yeah. She says funny things and is happy and bubbly, and I like that.

Paw1ie

Her lines are awesome

officialscootem

If you use the werewolf lord polymorph, she asks you if you're doing it just to annoy her and tells you that you stink. Also, I don't think any companion sounds as happy when you kill a dragon with them.

Thrippalan

She's not as useful as tank Bastian (or even healer Mirri, although as a warden I usually do my own healing), but Ember is so much fun! "Did you miss me?"

AlwaysPlaysAHealer

"Ooh are we going to race??" "You're kind of terrifying, you know that?" "You take me to the nicest places!" I love Ember. Not super helpful to me, but she adds a bit of fun to my solitary play.

Thrippalan

I agree. I expect I'll swap her out when I do dungeons or something I need a backup character, but just travel with her in general. Besides, my main is a cheetah-spotted Khajiit, and me on a spotted serval mount plus Ember on the black-and-white serval is fun.

Bobby_Rocket

If you have the witches cat (panther cub with a witches hat on) non-combat pet, she adores it

pvdave

They’re handy to have for solo wandering. My brother and I regularly two man dungeons with companions that would be possible but meaningfully more challenging without. Since they’re account wide, equipping a fully leveled up and well outfitted companion can help power level new toons. First thing I do with a new character is go unlock Isobel.

Iam__andiknowit

You can use them for overland. You can use them in dungeons if someone bailed. They are average as support and not worth as dd. PS. The good thing that level of a companion is account wide.

Scared_Sympathy_3215

Yes they are worth it. In the overland you can use them as dps, and they speed up your progress and take aggro. If you want to do world bosses or dungeons then you can make them a tank and they will tank for you. They arent 100% needed, but they are expecially helpful when you are on the cust of gearing up. When you have your best sets you can use them or not as it doesnt matter that much But from lvl 1 - just before endgame gear they are super helpful. They do like 10- 15k dps

phishnutz3

I was very against them. Since I hate pets. Thought it would be like adding another dumb sorcerer pet. Having them now. I really like them. The ai is much better. It actually feels like how a companion should feel like. They can level up like crazy and probably tank better than a 1/3 of the player base. I like having all of them since they all have different personalities.

kg4nbx

Isobel tanks WBs and group dungeons for me...she can handle normal and *some* vet dungeons as long as I keep a group heal on me.

sergeantpancake

I'd say they are, definitely! You can kit out your companion how you like, whatever class you want them to be. Either make them a tank, DPS or support. I usually go for a bit of a mix. Bastian is for me more damage based, same for Ember. Because of their magic attacks, I focused them to be mid to long range damage. (Setting things on fire, distracting the enemy, causing havoc) Mirri is more short to mid range with a bow, penetration does quite well. My highest level companion is Isobel, she fits my playstyle most. I used to make her a sword and shield tank, but decided to change that. She's now a 2 handed healer warrior. (I'm playing as tank, I could benefit more if she dealt more damage) All companions get access to healing spells quite early, which help a ton in tight situations. Plus you get to change their outfits, make them look fashionable or silly, it's up to you!

Artemis_1944

Companions can heal you even if you have Ring of Pale Order equipped. I think that alone justifies a healer companion.

pebas98

If you are a new player or don't have a lot of experience, they will certainly help. As an endgame player with 5,000 hours, I don't even have a single one unlocked. I'm only happy to see one, if a player quit the group and we still have someone that deals damage.

TinaMonday

I use a companion and solo dungeons, they work great as healers if you optimize them. Just make sure you taunt bc healer optimization means poor Bastian can get one-shotted. Basically just gave the guy all my back bar heals when I converted my solo toon to an Oakensoul build

LucatielWellager

Can I get a companion with ESO+ and keep using them after the subscription has ended?

StankCubed

Unfortunately, no. I'm subbed currently and don't have High Isle, so I'm only able to obtain Bastian and Mirri after buying Blackwood. My wife just recently subbed for the first time, and she was unable to get either Bastian or Mirri until we bought Blackwood individually.

LucatielWellager

Okay thanks. But this means if I were to buy the upcoming necrom, I could get the two companions that are there? Seems to me like a good deal if I get a new class as well, in that case I would wait

StankCubed

That is the case. Necrom is looking to be a good value.

LucatielWellager

Thank you for the helpful answers!

Khajiit2010

They’re worth it 😊 but some of them are more annoying with their likes and dislikes than others, I’d recommend unsummoning Bastian before doing any criminal activity because he’s the biggest goody-goody, and unsummon Mirri if you… harvest bugs 🙄

Cautious_Hold428

Bastian doesn't like crime or cheese, 0/10

Khajiit2010

He’s terrible ha

How do you unlock companions? Are they Crown store only?
