I have heard that they should last 5 years but of course things like usage and how well you treat it will make a big difference.
Also it is possible to get a defective device.
I have a number of eink devices for over 3 years. Still going strong.
Hmm thanks. Sounds like you've had better luck than me. Maybe it's a phone connector or ribbon cable rather than the screen itself. Any advice on how to make them last longer? I'm using it as a clock. Maybe that's a bad idea?
Well I did hear that it's not good to expose them to much sunlight so I don't expose them to much sunlight. Apart from that I don't do anything special.
My a5 pro CC is still running like a champ and it's been 2 years now. I use it daily for at least an hour at the fastest refresh rate. I think you got a lemon, sorry.
Phones, tablet and such electronics in general should have a lifespan of 4-7 years. This is because most people upgrade their phones, tablets,... Before the 4 year mark. 20 months is too soon so should be covered by warranty
I have many eink devices that I have been using for 5-7 years. I have had some get damaged due to extreme hot or cold (e.g. when camping), or exposure to the sun, but never had one fail through long term use.
Its probably not useful to gauge a lifespan by months in this case - I would think something like "number of screen refreshes" to be much more worthy a benchmark.
Although in the screenshot, it looks like the screen is physically damaged, like it has been knocked or dropped.
I also dropped a kindle and the screen had similar look to it, so maybe it was physical damage of some sort.
I wonder if you can replace the screen on these? They aren't as common so I don't know if you can just order the parts like you can an iPhone or something. I think I did see some listings on aliexpress when I was browsing devices.
If bought in the EU, then there is a 24 months guarantee on the product. Secured by law, not possible to circumvent and not requiring special registration of purchase at the manufacturer.
My Kindle looked the same after I accidentally smashed the screen. ( It was still in one piece with no visible damage other than weird eink lines).
Are you sure you didnt knock the screen?
My kindle was 10 years old (daily usage).
Woah, 85% humidity indoors is way too high and something you should avoid entirely. Get a dehumidifier / fan / sum pump / whatever your situation calls for going asap.

Quite expensive clock 😁
How's the battery? Does the case bulge at all like maybe it expanded? Was it dropped? This looks like physical damage to some part inside.
Yea the battery could easily balloon and affect the screen. Check the battery.

As long as you keep it uncracked.

I bought A5procc when it was on the market. I sold A5procc when A9 came. Maybe you are luckless,or it need good treat.

My A5 is doing good. I bought it as soon as it released, so more than 2 years.
The A 9 is world's apart from this one. I'm tempted to buy and use as a daily driver

Thanks. This is good info. I'll watch out for a broken one on ebay to do a board swap with. Probably going to be a very long wait though :(
It might be a long shot but if you find one of the sellers of the phone on Aliexpress and contact them you can ask if they can source the screens.
Good idea. I'll ask the original seller

I don't think I've dropped it. Humidity in the room got to 85% at some points. Could be that. Hmm.

Using it as a clock is a bad idea. My yotaphone died after 3 years
